Abstract:
Una primera aproximació d’aquest estudi, molt preliminar, la vam fer quan varem presentar la tesina l’any 2008. El resultat final, però, el presentem en aquest treball en el que procurarem mostrar, estudiar i analitzar la vida artística i l’obra d’Agustí Ferrer Pino, fins aquest moment quasi bé inèdita. Podríem dir que intentarem rememorar un pintor pràcticament desconegut en l’àmbit català i poc reconegut en la seva població d’origen, Sitges. Potser pel tipus d’obra, per les seves circumstàncies, per com era ell, per haver estat de Sitges... mai no acabat de quallar un nom i una obra dispersa en les col•leccions particulars de moltes famílies sitgetanes. Ara que hem descobert el seu fosc amagatall volem il•luminar-lo amb un estudi en profunditat, de la mateixa manera que altres pintors més o menys emparentats cronològica i conceptualment també l’han tingut. El present treball s’estructurarà en tres volums: El primer volum, que abraçarà el cos total del treball sobre Agustí Ferrer Pino, estarà dividit en dues parts. En la primera part es desenvoluparà el marc històric i estètic en el que s’inscriu gran part de la trajectòria artística d’Agustí Ferrer. Essencialment, s’estudiarà el període noucentista de començaments del segle XX a Catalunya, però sense oblidar les altres corrents estètiques que cohabitaren i s’interpel•laren durant el Noucentisme. En aquesta primera part, també li voldrem dedicar una especial atenció al context artístic que configura a Sitges com una població important en el mapa cultural de la Catalunya de començaments de segle. En la segona part entrarem a fons en l’estudi i anàlisi d’Agustí Ferrer i la seva obra. També, com a pintor muralista, pretenem dedicar un espai diferencial a la localització i estudi de les seves pintures murals més importants. En el segon volum es presentarà la proposta d’una primera catalogació de l’obra d’Agustí Ferrer Pino (dibuix i pintura). En el tercer i últim volum es presentarà l’apèndix documental de la relació d’articles localitzats en diaris i revistes referents a Ferrer Pino, els seus escrits inèdits i la seva documentació, que haurem fet servir per la construcció d’aquesta tesi.

Abstract:
Les découvertes récentes de faunes à hominidés dans le Mio-Pliocène d'Afrique de l'Ouest ont remis en cause le rôle de barrière joué par le rift Est-Africain et relancé le débat sur la paléobiogéographie africaine. Dans ce contexte, l'identification des barrières biogéographiques effectives à cette période est importante. L'une des contraintes à la dispersion des faunes est le réseau hydrographique. Cette thèse a pour objectif la reconstruction de la topologie de ce réseau durant le Néogène. Nous avons utilisé le genre de poisson-chat Synodontis (Mochokidae, Siluriformes) : la large répartition actuelle de Synodontis en Afrique, sa diversité importante, l'hétérogénéité des distributions de ses espèces actuelles, ainsi que son importante représentation dans le registre fossile sous-tendent une histoire complexe au sein du réseau hydrographique africain. Jusqu'à présent, l'identification des espèces de Synodontis était basée sur des caractères d' anatomie molle. Nous avons établi un ensemble de caractères ostéologiques permettant la reconnaissance des d’espèces actuelles de Synodontis de la zone Nilo-Soudanaise. Cette étude anatomique a permis la reconnaissance des spécimens fossiles à un niveau spécifique dans le Mio-Pliocène d'Afrique (Tchad, Egypte, Tunisie, Uganda). Une phylogénie moléculaire est établie. Pour reconstruire l'histoire de Synodontis, nous avons combiné les approches anatomiques et moléculaires. L'évolution du groupe est structurée par la dorsale Centre Africaine et influencée par l'émergence du Rift. Nos résultats proposent une origine Congolaise de Synodontis dans l'Oligocène (~30 Ma). Subséquemment, des dispersions en zone Nilo-Soudanaise et Basse Guinée sont enregistrées. La phylogénie de Synodontis soutient l'existence d'un réseau hydrographique qui s'étend de l'Est à l'Ouest de l'Afrique, indépendant du Nil, et qui a fonctionné jusqu’à ~10 Ma. Au Miocène Supérieur, la distribution des espèces de Synodontis en zone Nilo-Soudanaise est plus hétérogène qu' actuellement. Au Plio-Pléistocène, les échanges entre les bassins de la zone Nilo-Soudanaise s'intensifient, entraînant l'homogénéisation de l'ichtyofaune
The Rift Valley has long been considered as an ecological barrier until recent discoveries of Mio-Pliocene fossiliferous outcrops in Central Africa: our paleobiogeographical conceptions have to be reappraised. In this context, identification of effective biogeographical barriers preventing dispersals during the Mio-Pliocene may provide a first order constraint in which evolution in Africa could be drawn. The hydrographical network constitutes one of the major constraints to dispersal. Our work aims at reconstructing the hydrographical network during the Neogene. The widespread african catfish genus Synodontis (Mochokidae, Siluriformes) is used as a proxy: its abundance in the fossil record together with an important modern diversity implies a complex history for the African freshwater. So far, the Synodontis species are recognized on soft characters. Here, I propose a study of the bony anatomy of extant Synodontis species from the Nilo-Soudan province and propose specific osteological characters. Those characters are used in the fossil to recognize specimens at a specific level throughout Mio-Pliocene sites of Africa (Chad, Egypt, Tunisia, and Uganda). A molecular phylogeography of Synodontis species is established. To reconstruct history of the group, we combined molecular and osteological analyses. The evolution of the group is structured around the Central African Shear Zone and influenced by the formation of the Rift. The Synodontis origin is Congolese and roots in the Oligocene (~30 Myr). Rapidly, they disperse in the Nilo-Sudan and Lower Guinean provinces. Our results support an ancient drainage system independent from the Nil, extending from West to East Africa and operating during the Middle Miocene. In the Late Miocene, distribution of the Synodontis species appears much more heterogeneous than the modern one. The intensive Plio-Pleistocene exchanges in the Nilo-Sudan province have greatly contributed to homogenize the ichtyofauna and to give the modern pattern of distribution

Abstract:
Tämä tutkielma käsittelee kolmiulotteisen reaaliavaruuden kappaleita, joita kutsutaan pinnoiksi. Pinnan käsitteellä tarkoitetaan kaksiulotteista sileää kappaletta, jonka jokainen osa-alue voidaan kuvata joltakin tasolta jatkuvalla injektiolla. Pinta siis voidaan kuvata aina siten että funktio säilyttää kaksi muuttujan arvoa samoina ja määrää kolmannen näiden kahden perusteella. Tällaista funktiota, joka määrää pinnan, kutsutaan peitefunktioksi. Käytännössä kaikki pintoihin liittyvä operointi tapahtuu peitefunktioiden kautta. Peitefunktion toinen muuttuja kiinnitetään vakioksi, jolloin sen kuvaus tuottaa puhtaan käyrän. Pintojen operointi perustuu ajatukseen, että kyseessä on vain yksi kolmiulotteisen euklidisen avaruuden aliavaruus, jossa differentiaalilaskenta ja muut laskutoimitukset toteutuvat samoin kuin yleisessäkin tapauksessa. Jos halutaan tutkia pelkästään pinnalla olevan tietyn funktion käyttäytymistä, luodaan yhdistetty funktio, jonka sisäfunktiona on pinnan peitefunktio ja ulkofunktiona varsinainen tutkittava funktio, jolloin määrittelyjoukkona on vain jokin yksinkertainen taso. Funktio voidaan myös asettaa kahden erillisen pinnan välille siten että ensimmäinen pinta toimii lähtöjoukkona ja toinen maalijoukkona. Tämä tapahtuu luomalla yhdistelmäfunktio ensimmäisen pinnan peitefunktion palauttavasta käänteisfunktiosta, peitefunktioiden määrittelyjoukkoina olevien tasojen välisestä funktiosta sekä maalijoukkona olevan tason peitefunktiosta. Kolmen eri derivoituvan funktion yhdistelmäfunktio toteuttaa kaikki yleisimmät laskutoimitukset. Samoin kuin derivoinnin yhteydessä, myös integroinnissa pinnalla määritelty funktio on palautettava peitefunktion avulla takaisin tasolle ja operoitava siellä. Integrointi suoritetaan käyrää pitkin yhden muuttujan tapauksessa niinkuin yleisessäkin tapauksessa ja usean muuttujan integrointi suoritetaan määrittelyalueena toimivan suorakaiteen reunoja pitkin suuntaan tai toiseen. Tutkielman loppupuolella luodaan vielä silmäys pintojen topologisiin ominaisuuksiin, joista esille nousee kolme ominaisuutta, joiden avulla voidaan tarkastella pinnan yhtenäisyyttä, sen pinta-alan äärellisyyttä ja sitä, onko kyseessä yksi vaiko kaksipuolinen kappale. Aivan lopuksi tutkaillaan vielä monistoja, jotka ovat kolmiulotteisen pinnan yleistyksiä useampiulotteiselle avaruudelle. Tässä tapauksessa kolmiulotteisten pintojen tietyt itsestäänselvät ominaisuudet ovat mahdottomia osoittaa, mikä mutkistaa tutkimista.

Abstract:
Two pre-fermentation treatments were investigated in Pinot noir (Vitis vinifera L.) wines. The effects of cold maceration and carbonic maceration on the wines' composition, colour parameters and sensory properties were examined. Cold maceration is a winemaking technique used to increase non-alcoholic extraction in Pinot noir winemaking prior to fermentation. It involves holding crushed grapes with approximately 100-150 mg l⁻¹ SO₂ at low temperatures and is thought to increase the colour, aroma and flavour of the resulting wines. Carbonic maceration uses whole bunches that have undergone anaerobic metabolism to produce characteristically fruity and spicy wines. Pre-fermentation cold maceration produces wines that are higher in titratable acidity and monomeric anthocyanin content, but lower in colour density, hue and polymeric pigments. Reducing the maceration temperature below 10°C has little effect. Carbonic maceration produces wines that are lower in titratable acidity, monomeric anthocyanin content, and colour density but are higher in colour hue and amount of polymeric pigments. Quantitative descriptive analysis was used to define the effects of these pre-fermentation maceration treatments on the sensory characteristics of the resulting wine. Trained panel members found that there were no discernable sensory differences in the compositional parameters despite measurable chemical differences. Investigation into the aroma and flavour characteristics of the wines found that carbonic maceration produces wines that were lower in berry aroma and higher in acetate or ester-type aromas than the control wines. These wines were considered to have specific raspberry, floral, sugar, cherry and chemical aromas. This chemical note was also observed in the flavour of the carbonic maceration wines. The temperature of the cold maceration process has no major effect on the aroma and flavour of the resulting wines. However, the 10°C maceration was higher in woody/tobacco aroma than the 4°C maceration, and the 10°C treatment was also higher in bitter flavour than all the other treatments. Cold maceration wines were found to have specific mixed berry, dried fruit and sweet-oxidised aroma characters, together with a blackberry flavour note.

O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito da cianamida hidrogenada e a fenologia de produ??o em cultivares Pinot Meunier e Pinot Noir no munic?pio de Diamantina/MG. Os experimentos foram conduzidos em propriedade comercial localizada em Diamantina/MG. O vinhedo foi instalado em 2005 com as cultivares Pinot Meunier e Pinot Noir, enxertadas sobre o porta-enxerto 1103 Pausen, implantado com espa?amento de 1 m entre plantas x 2,5 m entre fileiras. As plantas foram conduzidas com 2 hastes em esquema de espaldeira vertical e tr?s fios de arame. A poda foi realizada em 4 de setembro de 2008, deixando uma haste curta com duas gemas por espor?o. Para a caracteriza??o fenol?gica foram feitas observa??es visuais a cada dois dias da poda at? a colheita. As demandas t?rmicas foram calculadas a partir de temperaturas observadas na Esta??o Meteorol?gica de Diamantina/MG. Para as curvas de matura??o foi utilizado suco para avalia??o qu?mica dos teores de s?lidos sol?veis totais (SST), acidez total titul?vel (ATT) e rela??o SST/ATT. Para avaliar o efeito da aplica??o de cianamida hidrogenada na brota??o, in?cio de matura??o e nas caracter?sticas f?sico-qu?micas das cultivares Pinot Meunier e Pinot Noir cultivadas em Diamantina/MG, foram realizadas avalia??es das plantas a cada dois dias, quando foram aferidas as porcentagens de brota??o e porcentagens de bagas em in?cio de matura??o. Na colheita foi realizada a contagem do n?mero de cachos por planta e foram amostradas 15 bagas por parcela para as seguintes avalia??es f?sico-qu?micas das bagas: umidade, massa, di?metros longitudinal (DL) e transversal (DT), rela??o DL/DT, teor de s?lidos sol?veis totais (SST), acidez total titul?vel (ATT), rela??o STT/ATT, a??cares redutores, antocianinas, flavon?ides, compostos fen?licos e pH. Os resultados obtidos demonstram dura??o do per?odo fenol?gico para as cultivares Pinot Meunier e Pinot Noir de 145 e 155 dias, respectivamente, para a produ??o da safra de ver?o em Diamantina/MG, podendo considerar a variedade Pinot Meunier de ciclo precoce. A exig?ncia t?rmica necess?ria para a produ??o da Pinot Meunier da poda ? colheita foi de 1340,67 GD e da Pinot Noir de 1446,95 GD. A cultivar Pinot Noir apresentou maior teor de s?lidos sol?veis totais e acidez, sendo a maior rela??o SST/ATT da Pinot Meunier nas condi??es de Diamantina/MG. Foram evidenciados para o efeito da aplica??o da cianamida hidrogenada a antecipa??o do in?cio da matura??o em 17 dias para a Pinot Meunier, a maior porcentagem de cachos em in?cio de matura??o em 45,84% e 28,23% para ?Pinot Meunier? e ?Pinot Noir?, respectivamente, e o incremento de algumas caracter?sticas f?sico-qu?micas avaliadas, como acidez total titul?vel, rela??o SST/ATT, flavon?ides e taninos para a cultivar Pinot Meunier e s?lidos sol?veis totais, a??cares redutores e umidade das bagas para a cultivar Pinot Noir.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the effect of hydrogenated cyanamide and phenology of production in Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir cultivars in Diamantina/MG.?The experiments were conducted in commercial property located at Diamantina/MG.?The vineyard was established in 2005 with the Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir cultivars, grafted on rootstock Pausen 1103, deployed with a spacement of 1 m between plants and 2.5 m between rows.?The plants were conducted with 2 rods in an arrangement of vertical cordon and three wires.?The pruning was performed on September 4, 2008 leaving a short stem with two buds per spur.?To characterize the phenology were made visually observations every two days from pruning to harvest.?The thermal demands were calculated from the observed temperatures at the meteorological station of Diamantina/MG.?For the maturation curves was used a juice to make chemical evaluation of total soluble solids (TSS), total titratable acidity (TTA) and the TSS/TTA ratio.?To evaluate the effect of hydrogenated cyanamide on sprouting, early maturation and the physicochemical characteristics of the Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir cultivars grown in Diamantina/MG where the assessments of plants were made every two days, then there were measured the percentage of budding?and the percentage of berries in early maturation.?At harvest it was counted the number of clusters per plant and there were sampled 15 berries per plot for the following physicochemical evaluations of berries: humidity, mass, longitudinal diameter (DL) and transversal diameter (TD), LD/TD ratio content of?total soluble solids (TSS), total titratable acidity (TTA), TSS/ATT ratio, reducing sugars, anthocyanins, flavonoids, phenolic compounds and pH.?The results show that the duration of phenological period for the Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier cultivars are from 145 to 155 days, respectively, for the production of summer crops in Diamantina/MG, which may consider the Pinot Meunier variety in early maturity.?The thermal requirement needed for the production of Pinot Meunier from pruning to harvest was 1340.67 GD and Pinot Noir presented 1446.95 GD.?Pinot Noir cultivar showed the highest content of total soluble solids and acidic, and also the highest TSS/TTA ratio of Pinot Meunier in the Diamantina/MG environment.?For the purpose of applying hydrogenated cyanamide there were evidenced the anticipation of early maturation in 17 days for Pinot Meunier, the highest percentage of early-ripening in 45.84% and 28.23% for Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir, respectively and the increment of some physicochemical characteristics evaluated as total titratable acidity, TSS/TTA ratio, flavonoids and tannins for the Pinot Meunier cultivar and total soluble solid, reducing sugars and humidity from the berries to the Pinot Noir cultivar.

Abstract:
La exposición de las plantas de vid a bajas temperaturas es uno de los factores que provocan la “coulure”. Este fenómeno involucra la aparición de perturbaciones a nivel de la fotosíntesis y el metabolismo del carbono de la planta. Con el fin de analizar el efecto de una noche fría sobre el contenido de los azúcares de reserva de las inflorescencias de Pinot noir, se expusieron ramas fructíferas de esta cepa de vid a temperaturas de 4°, 0° y -3°C durante una noche, para posteriormente determinar el contenido de glúcidos (glucosa, fructosa, sacarosa y almidón) de las inflorescencias. En paralelo, se realizaron observaciones microscópicas de las reservas amiláceas de las inflorescencias sometidas a una noche a -3°C. Los resultados de este estudio muestran que los contenidos en glucosa y fructosa de las inflorescencias fluctúan durante las primeras horas luego de un estrés de 4° y 0°C. Sin embargo, es sobre todo luego de una noche a -3°C que se pudo constatar una fuerte movilización y consumo de los azúcares de reserva contenidos en las inflorescencias estresadas. -- Palabras clave: Estrés frío, glúcidos, inflorescencia, vid, coulure.
-- Exposure to low temperatures is one of the main factors causing the coulure in grapevine, due to its effect on the plant’s photosynthesis and carbon metabolism. To test the effect of a chilling night on carbon reserves of inflorescences of Pinot Noir, fruiting cuttings that have undergone a low-temperature night at 4°, 0° and -3 ° C were used to determine the levels of carbohydrates (glucose, fructose, sucrose and starch) in the inflorescences. Microscopic observations of inflorescences after a -3 ° C night were performed. The levels of glucose and fructose fluctuated during the first hours after a 4 and 0 ° C night, but it is especially after a chilling night at -3 ° C that a strong mobilization and consumption of carbohydrates in the inflorescence were observed. -- Key words: Cold stress, carbohydrates, inflorescence, grapevine, coulure.

AI afrontar un tema tan arduo y complejo como es la elaboración de una tesis doctoral, he tenido que resolver dos grandes cuestiones. En primer lugar, cómo trasladarme de mi habitual medio de expresión a otro tan difícil para mí como es el de la palabra escrita, usada para analizar en profundidad aspectos artísticos de muy difícil objetivación y cuyo mejor análisis solo puede partir de la observación directa de la obra pictórica. Por ello este trabajo pretende ser una contribución al análisis de la personalidad y obra de un pintor catalán de nuestro siglo, apoyado en la presentación de un catálogo grafico , sin recurrir a la composición de largos textos literarios. Mi segundo problema ha consistido en resolver el estudio de la personalidad y la obra de José Puigdengolas Barella que fue primero mi profesor y siempre mi maestro y al que me unían además de lazos familiares una entrariable amistad. Es evidente que por ello a lo largo de este trabajo no podré escapar en ocasiones a una cierta subjetivación , provocada por mi cercanía a su vida y a su obra, pero la aportación que representa esta información de primera mano, no podía eludirla para que estos datos e impresiones no se perdieran. Cuando le planteé a Puigdengolas la idea de mi trabajo, contrariamente a lo que se podía esperar, no le hizo demasiada ilusión la realización del mismo. Celoso como siempre fue de su intimidad, no le gustaba que removieran en su vida y en su trabajo. Sin embargo, poco a poco fue colaborando conmigo, desenrrollando viejas telas guardadas en su taller durante más de cuarenta años y desenterrando recuerdos sabre su vida y lugares que frecuentó para pintar. Este trabajo pretende rendir mi personal homenaje a un artista que desde mis inicios en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Barcelona, supo comunicarme su entusiasmo por la pintura, animándome en todo momento. Viéndole trabajar y hablar de arte, comprendí lo que significaba "ser pintor", Puigdengolas lo era y a ello dedicó toda su vida de forma exclusiva considerándose afortunado. Es tambien un homenaje al hombre que tenía una especial simpatía y una conversación nunca banal que siempre trataba de analizar las aspectos esteticos de la vida con naturalidad. Pretendo también con esta tesis mostrar un tipo de pintor de una época en la historia de la pintura catalana, de formación "noucentista" de retorno a la norma, a lo clásico, a lo mediterráneo, perteneciente a una generación de paisajistas que con sus cuadros y caballetes al hombro recorrían nuestra geografíaen busca de sus temas preferidos. Aquella generación de pintores absortos por su vocación y en los que su pintura era el objetivo primordial. Pintores que trabajaban en la soledad de su taller y que acudían a las tertulias con otros artistas, donde se ponfan en tela de juicio opiniones y posturas. En el esquema de este trabajo exists una parte dedicada al perfil biográfico, en la que se aportan documentos y datos sobre su nacimiento, ambiente familiar, estudios, actividades, exposiciones... Posteriormente un análisis del aspecto artístico, de su formación, influencias, técnicas de realización, lugares frecuentados y labor docente junto con la catalogación, contribuirá a ampliar la visión de la vida y la obra de José Puigdengolas.

La tesis aborda el resentimiento social desde una óptica personal. El autor del texto se pone como objeto de estudio asumiendo su particular posición frente al tema. Esa reflexión preliminar, se convierte en un ensayo en los campos del arte universal y la sociedad chilena actual. El objetivo es revelar como la pintura ha sido registro de clase y evidencia de un deseo expreso de figuración el mismo que se manifiesta en las páginas de vida social. El texto propone que esas páginas, junto con materializar las aspiraciones de la clase alta y desatar la envidia y resentimiento de otros, son el símil del retratismo decimonónico. Tras analizar las relaciones entre arte y sociedad, y el encuentro entre pintura y fotografía el texto indaga en el impacto que ambos asuntos tienen sobre la obra realizada por el autor entre los años 2001 y 2004, enfocándose en la exposición Pintor de la corte, muestra dedicada a ironizar pictóricamente el mundo expuesto en las páginas de vida social de los diarios El Mercurio y revista Cosas.

Although the use of animation to support science documentaries has been well studied, and is easily accepted by viewers, the public has little familiarity with animations or virtual realities as being appropriate tools for other kinds of documentary storytelling. This paper contrasts previous studies of the use of animation and CGI in documentary filmmaking with issues generated by some of the more recent evolutions in the field. I find that although the public may have more difficulty understanding the link between an animated image on the screen and its real world referent, when used effectively animations and virtual realities can offer a new, though potentially problematic, range of storytelling tools.

Pinot noir has traditionally been fermented by native winery flora; however, the recent practice of single yeast strain inoculation may simplify wine aromas and flavours. Thus, a need exists for yeasts that create the complexity of naturally fermented wines and provide the consistency of commercial strains. It has been suggested that mixed Saccharomyces strains may be capable of this dual role. In this study, three novel Burgundian S. cerevisiae strains were characterized for enological equivalency against five industrial strains recommended for Pinot noir. The volatile compounds produced by these strains along with four Burgundian strain mixtures were quantified in Pinot noir wine to evaluate the hypothesis that mixed S. cerevisiae strains contribute to the complexity of naturally fermented wine. The Burgundian strains were enologically equivalent to the industrial strains in terms of killer phenotype, fermentation kinetics, production of ethanol, glycerol, and acetic acid, conversion of sugar to ethanol, ethanol tolerance, foam production, sulfur dioxide production, and compatibility with malolactic fermentation. The concentrations of most of the 25 compounds quantified in the headspace of Pinot noir wines fermented at 22°C and 27°C significantly differed among yeast strains and between temperatures. Principal component analysis revealed different patterns of volatile production among the industrial, individual Burgundian and mixed Burgundian yeast strains. Mixed Burgundian strains produced greater amounts of most of the higher alcohols than individual Burgundian strains. Additionally, individual and mixed Burgundian strains produced greater amounts of ethyl esters than most industrial strains, but did not differ from one another. In contrast, the pattern of acetate ester production differed between individual Burgundian and mixed Burgundian strains in a fermentation temperature-dependent manner. Cluster analysis revealed that differences in the patterns of volatile production among industrial, individual Burgundian and mixed Burgundian yeast strains extended over the complete volatile profile. Furthermore, cluster analysis of the averaged profiles showed greater overall similarity between the industrial and the individual Burgundian strains than the mixed Burgundian strains. Fermenting Pinot noir with mixed Burgundian yeast strains resulted in unique patterns of volatile production, which holds promise for mixed Saccharomyces products that yield wines of greater complexity.

A trial established in 2003 at Upper Moutere in Nelson, New Zealand, was used to evaluate the effect of mussel shells as reflective mulch on Vitis vinifera L. cv. Pinot noir vine performance and fruit and wine quality. Shell mulch had several effects on the environment and vine growth as well as grape and wine composition in the 2006/2007 season. Soil under mulch was cooler compared to un-mulched control, but buffered the extremes in temperatures. Fruiting zone temperature over shells was slightly higher during the day and cooler at night, showing no effect on mean hourly temperature. Shell mulch reflected greater amounts of UV-A, UV-B and PAR radiation into the fruiting zone. Shell reduced weed growth compared to control. Leaf petiole and blade samples showed higher amounts of calcium compared to control. Leaf SPAD values were higher in the shell treatment during veraison, previous and postharvest, but lower post budburst. While date of budburst was not affected by treatments, dates of flowering and veraison appeared to be slightly advanced over shells. Fruit set was similar between treatments and was considered poorer in shell bunches due to a larger population of seedless berries. Vine growth was not affected in terms of the number of nodes laid at pruning, flower cluster and shoot number pre shoot thinning, early shoot growth and lateral shoots development. Vigour was not increased by shells as demonstrated by pruning weights, canopy density and trunk circumferences being similar, though internode lengths in shell shoots were greater in 2007 and lower in 2006. Berry weights, bunch weights and vine yields were lower in shell than control, though greater berry numbers were recorded. There were slight differences between treatments in fruit and wine composition. Grape pH only varied in the middle of the sampling time, being higher the 2nd week and lower the 3rd week in shell grapes and TA was greater at harvest time. However, °Brix was only higher in shell grapes in the middle of the sampling period, being similar to control at veraison and harvest. Peduncle lignification was delayed at veraison as well as at harvest time. Shell must after crushing was greater in Brix but similar to control in pH and TA. Similarly, shell wines pre bottling showed higher alcohol and no differences for pH and TA. HPLC-DAD analyses of commercial-scale and microvin wines showed consistent differences of the individual flavonoid composition. Shell microvin wines were greater than control in quercetin and resveratrol. However, commercial shell wines were lower in epicatechin, gallic acid, resveratrol, and catechin than control. Leaf phenolic composition was also different between treatments. However, further analyses by HPLC-MS in wines as well as in leaves are necessary to identify individual compounds. Total anthocyanins and total phenolics were no different between treatments. Sensory analyses of microvin and commercial shell wines exhibited consistently lower levels of green and unripe tannins, and greater smoothness and complexity as well. Further analysis by GC-MS and HPLC-MS is warranted. Shell mulch improved sensory characteristics of the resulting wines.

ABSTRACT Influence of Crop Load on Fruit Composition Using Pinot Noir Grapes Patrick G. Phelan November 2009 The two seasons for this trial were conducted in 2002 and 2003 at Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Maria, California. The trial consisted of pinot noir wine grapes clone 2a, grown on 101-14 rootstock. There were eight treatments with a control consisting of 25 vines per treatment, and 50 vines for the control. The primary objective of this research experiment was to conduct different vine balance procedures and compare them to the amount of wine phenolics. The vines were altered with two procedures. First was crop yield; fruit thinning altered the treatments by providing four different crop loads and a control. The treatment levels were signified as one ton, two ton, three ton, four ton, and control. The second procedure was timing of fruit thinning. Four different crop loads were split in half giving rise to eight treatments and a control. With four of the treatments the fruit was dropped post-bloom, and the other four treatments were dropped at seventy five percent veraison. Equal amounts of early and late thinning were combined and made into wine which gave four different crop load wines and a control wine. This process was done in 2002 and repeated in 2003. Additionally, other vine growth parameters were analyzed to determine the role that crop load and timing of thinning had in their development. Seven variables were analyzed from prunings, clusters, juice, and wine samples. They consisted of berry size, cluster weight, titratable acidity, pH, total soluble solids, phenolic profile (consisting of eleven components), and shoot weight. The results indicated that the following were statistically significant: (1) titratable acidity was significantly different between the 2002 and 2003 growing seasons, (2) total soluble solids showed a significant difference between the early fruit thinning versus the late thinning, (3) berry size in 2002 showed a statistically significant effect of drop date on the mean caliper size, (4) in 2002 the berry size also showed a statistically significant interaction between drop level and drop date, (5) berry size in 2003 showed a statistically significant effect of drop level on the mean caliper size, (6) in 2003 there is also a statistically significant effect of drop date on the mean caliper size, (7) again in 2003 there is a statistically significant interaction between drop level and drop date, (8) cluster weights in 2002 showed a statistically significant relationship between drop level and average cluster weight, (9) in 2002 cluster weights also showed an effect of the time of fruit drop on the average cluster weight, (10) cluster weights in 2003 showed a statistically significant relationship between drop level and the average cluster weight, (11) pruning weights in 2002 showed a statistically significant relationship between drop level and average shoot weight, (12) pruning weights in 2003 showed a statistically significant relationship between drop level and average shoot weight and finally, (13) of the eleven phenolic components measured, five differed significantly by year but not across the five treatments. Information derived from this experiment suggests that the site is a high vigour location according to Robinson and Smart’s yield to pruning weight ratio. With this in mind we find that TA and pH were not a significant factor, but soluble solids (brix) ascertained a higher degree of brix with the late drop treatment. We conclude this to be an effect of both the high vigour site and more uniform fruit drop. In 2002 and 2003, we find a significant interaction between drop date and berry size with a late drop producing the smallest berries on average. Cluster weights varied between 2002 and 2003 and the results were inconclusive. Shoot weights along with harvest totals concluded a high vigour site. The one ton level in 2002 had a significantly higher average shoot weight than the three ton level (p<.001), four ton level (p=.006), and no fruit drop control (p<.001). There is also a significant relationship between drop time and average shoot weight in 2002 (p<.001), and 2003 (p=.049) with the late fruit drop being followed by a lower shoot weight. This significant relationship expressed that an early drop increased the shoot weight which contributed only more vigour to an already high vigour site. The ratio of yield to pruning weight for 2002 gave us a range of .39 to 1.78, and in 2003 the range was .32 to 1.36 concluding a high vigour site. The phenolic profile expressed a statistical difference by year, but was most likely caused by a varying fermentation temperature or different climatic conditions in 2002 and 2003.

L'objectif premier de ce travail de thèse était de développer des analyses métabolomiques non ciblées de vins en bouteilles afin de déchiffrer les informations chimiques relatives à l’évolution de leurs compositions avec le temps. Cette recherche initiale était fondée sur l'hypothèse que, lors de l'analyse, les vins en bouteilles gardent une mémoire chimique des paramètres environnementaux à l’œuvre au moment de leur élaboration (gestion du vignoble, pratiques œnologiques, climat, terroir). Une seconde hypothèse reposait sur la nécessité d’étudier le passé pour anticiper l’évolution de la qualité du vin du point de vue de sa composition chimique. À cet effet et pour la première fois dans la science du vin, la Spectrométrie de Masse à Résonance Cyclotronique des Ions et à Transformée de Fourier (FTICR-MS), la Chromatographie Liquide couplée à la Spectrométrie de Masse (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS), la spectroscopie de Fluorescence d’Excitation et d’Émission (EEMF) et les statistiques multivariées ont été combinées. Le développement méthodologique a révélé l'avantage de coupler les mesures de masses exactes par FTICR-MS à la discrimination des isomères par UPLC-Q-TOF-MS afin d'étendre la gamme des métabolites détectables. Ces outils ont été appliqués à l'identification de marqueurs de vieillissement sur des séries verticales de vins rouges et blancs de Bourgogne, y compris sur des vins très anciens (millésimes inconnus) considérés comme des points extrêmes d'évolution, introduisant ainsi la notion de verticalomics. La caractérisation d'une série de vins blancs de Bourgogne (Chardonnay) a révélé que les espaces chimiques spécifiquement liés à des pratiques œnologiques (SO2 ajouté lors du pressurage, niveau de débourbage ou perméabilité du bouchon) pourraient être déchiffrés, bien que les signatures de millésimes étaient les plus significatives. Des expériences similaires sur les vins de Champagne (Chardonnay, et mélanges de Chardonnay, Pinot noir et Pinot Meunier) après la prise de mousse et le vieillissement sur lattes ont mis en évidence l'effet d'hormesis associé à l'oxygénation du vin. Enfin, les analyses non ciblées d'extraits de raisin et des vins correspondants provenant de différentes appellations et élaborés par le même vigneron ont révélé qu’il était possible de lire des signatures liées au terroir, en particulier après quelques années de vieillissement en bouteille. Plus largement, nos résultats fournissent une description globale sans précédent de la composition chimique du vin et de sa modification par le vieillissement
The main objective of this work was to develop non-targeted metabolomics analyses of bottled wines in order to decipher chemical informations from the time-related evolution of their composition. This original research was based on the hypothesis that, when analyzed, bottled wines would still hold chemical memories of envionmental parameters (vineyard management, oenological practices, climate, terroir…) at the moment of their elaboration, even after several years of ageing. A second hypothesis was that in order to anticipate the future evolution of the wine quality in terms of chemical composition, it is necessary to know what it was in the past. To that purpose, and for the first time in wine science, Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance – Mass Spectrometry (FTICR-MS), Liquid Chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-ToF-MS), Excitation Emission Matrix Fluorescence (EEMF) and multivariate statistics were used in combination. Methodological develoments revealed the advantage of coupling exact mass measurements by FTICR-MS to isomeric discrimination by UPLC-Q-ToF-MS in order to extend the range of detectable metabolites. Such tools were applied to the identification of ageing markers in vertical series of red and white wines from Burgundy, including very old wines (unknown vintages) considered as evolution end points, thus introducing the concept of verticalomics. The characterization of series of white wines from Burgundy (Chardonnay) revealed that chemical spaces specifically related to eonological practices (SO2 addition at pressing, settling level, and permeability of the stopper) could indeed be deciphered although the vintage signatures were confirmed to be the most significant. Similar experiments on Champagne wines (Chardonnay, and blends of Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Pinot Meunier) after the "prise de mousse" and the ageing "sur lattes" further highlighted the hormesis effect associated with the oxygenation of wine. Finally, non-targeted analyses of series of grape extracts and corresponding wines from different appelations – though elaborated by the same winemaker – revealed that terroir-related signatures could be indeed read in wines, in particular after a few years of bottle ageing. Altogether our results provide an unprecedented comprehensive description of the chemical composition of wine and its modification through ageing

O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar, in vitro, a resistência à compressão de 30 raízes bovinas, tratadas endodonticamente, divididas em 3 grupos com 10 raízes cada e restauradas com pino metálico fundido (Grupo 1), pino pré-fabricado de fibra de vidro (Grupo 2) e pino anatômico (Grupo 3). Todas as raízes, com comprimentos de 15mm, foram preparadas internamente para que a espessura dentinária cervical ficasse com 1,5mm, com o objetivo de aumentar a largura do canal radicular. O espaço para o pino foi preparado com 10mm de comprimento. O diâmetro do pino de fibra de vidro escolhido foi o número 2, do sistema utilizado, para que houvesse um espaço entre ele e a estrutura radicular. O Grupo 1 recebeu pino e núcleo metálico fundido cimentado com cimento de fosfato de zinco. O Grupo 2 recebeu pino préfabricado de fibra de vidro cimentado com cimento resinoso Panavia F e núcleo de resina composta Z100. O Grupo 3 recebeu um pino de fibra de vidro modelado no interior do canal com resina composta Z100, cimentado com cimento resinoso Panavia F e núcleo de resina composta Z100. Em todas as raízes dos grupos, um coping metálico foi cimentado com cimento de fosfato de zinco. As raízes foram incluídas em resina acrílica quimicamente ativada, previamente inserida no interior de tubos de PVC e submetidas a testes de compressão em máquina de ensaio Kratos, modelo k2000MP. A carga de compressão foi aplicada a um ângulo de 135 graus ao longo eixo do dente, na face palatina, até que ocorresse uma trinca ou and analysed. The results revealed a statistical difference among groups. Group 1 presented a stronger resistance to fracture than the other groups, which did not present statistical difference. The roots restored with post and cast metallic core were the only ones that presented radicular fracture in the apical root third. The roots that were restored with fibre glass posts presented similar fractures, from the cervical root third to the middle root third.
The aim of this study was to compare, in vitro, the resistance to compression strength of 30bovine roots among canines and incisors endodontically treated, divided into 3 groups with 10 roots each and restored with cast metallic post (Group 1), prefabricated fibre glass post (Group 2), and anatomical post (Group 3). All the roots, with a length of 15mm, were internally prepared so as to their cervical dentin wall thickness would be of 1,5mm, in order to enhance the width of the radicular canal. The space for the post was prepared with 10mm. The diameter of the glass fibre post chosen was the number 2, of the adopted system, so as to create a space between the glass fibre post and the radicular structure. Group 1 received post and cast metallic core cemented with zinc phosphate cement. Group 2 received prefabricated fibre glass post cemented with resin cement Panavia F and composite resin core Z100. Group 3 received a fibre glass post modeled inside the canal with composite resin Z100, cemented with resin cement Panavia F and composite resin core Z100. In all groups, all the roots were cemented with a metallic coping with zinc phosphate cement. The roots were mounted inside pvc pipes with chemically activated acrylic resin, and submitted to compression tests in a universal testing machine Kratos, model k2000MP. The compressive load was done in an angle of 135o in relation to the long axes of the roots, until the occurrence of failure or fracture. The amount of load correspondent to the occurrence of failure or fracture was statistically registered and analysed. The results revealed a statistical difference among groups. Group 1 presented a stronger resistance to fracture than the other groups, which did not present statistical difference. The roots restored with post and cast metallic core were the only ones that presented radicular fracture in the apical root third. The roots that were restored with fibre glass posts presented similar fractures, from the cervical root third to the middle root third.

Le "libertinism", selon les reperages de robert darnton a propos de la litterature clandestine, le"sensualisme", la pensee contingente, avec l'enracinement novateur dans le point de vue individuel, les assises autobiographiques du roman-memoires au xviii e siecle, la langue, favorisent le "discours" de duclos, capteur du discours libertin, par la classe montante qu'il represente, sa mobilite litteraire. The word and the theme of "desire" saturate the narrative works of duclos, and relate to the theme of predation and libertinism in the subversion of the model provided by la princesse de cloves. "libertinism", as designated by robert darnton in clandestine literature, "sensualism", contingent thought, with its original rooting in the individual point of view, the autobiographical foundation provided by novel-memoirs in the 18th century, the language, all favour the "discourse" of duclos, which captures the essence of libertin discourse, the rising social milieu it represents and its literary mobility. The sceptical and feminist "desire" of the author, like the literary salons of the period, affirms desire as theatre and representation, resolution of happiness; and his "discourse", sometimes erotic, sometimes ferocious, announcing that of sade, but not pornographic, reduced to the discourse of love and to love's strategies, providing a literary model which will be followed by stendhal, responds to the natural emergence of desire by the demonstration of literary talent and "emergence" in life. We have recorded the occurrences of "desire" and analysed the rhetorical strategies at work, comparing the novels written by the author in linear, chronological order with the progression of his thought and moralist mise a distance. The thesis is based on the conflagration of two main texts, the archetypal novel of la princesse de cleves and the narrative works of duclos, and proposes a commentary which meets with the works and analyses of jacques brengues

La vitiviniculture est un secteur économique et culturel important en Bourgogne. L’actuel changement climatique soulève diverses questions notamment sur son impact sur les cultures. Dans cette thèse, l’idée est d’élaborer une méthodologie afin de répondre à la problématique : quels seront les impacts possibles des changements de températures sur la phénologie du Pinot noir en Bourgogne à l’horizon 2031-2048 ?L’évolution des températures en Bourgogne depuis 1961 est caractérisée par un saut positif de température à la fin des années 1980 suivi par une période où la température augmente d’environ 1,5°C.L’un des intérêts de cette thèse réside dans l’élaboration, en suivant une stratégie élaborée durant la thèse, d’une base de données spatialisée réalisée sur la période 1989-2009 afin d’estimer la capacité du modèle WRF à reproduire le climat bourguignon en désagrégeant des données climatiques de large échelle. Le modèle reproduit de façon satisfaisante le cycle saisonnier et la variabilité spatiale climatique globale aux biais près (froid sur les Tx et chauds sur les Tn).Pour régionaliser le changement climatique, WRF a été utilisé pour désagréger des données issues du scénario SRES/A2 sur les périodes 1970-1987 et 2031-2048. Après avoir été évalués et intercomparés trois modèles phénologiques utilisant les données de températures moyennes pour simuler les dates d’occurrence des stages phénologiques du Pinot noir, ont été appliqués sur ces désagrégations.L’impact de l’augmentation des températures à l’horizon 2031-2048 (SRES/A2), estimée à 1,35°C en moyenne, se caractérise par une précocité de la floraison d’au moins 7 jours et une précocité de la véraison d’au moins 15 jours. La durée interstade est également diminuée de l’ordre de 5 jours
The viticulture is an important economic and cultural sector in Burgundy. The current climate change raises a number of issues including its impact on crops. In this thesis, the idea is to develop a methodology to address the problem: what are the potential impacts of changes in temperature on the phenology of Pinot noir in Burgundy for years 2031-2048?The evolution of temperatures in Burgundy since 1961 is characterized by a positive temperature shift at the end of the 1980s followed by a period where the temperature increases of about 1.5 ° C.One of the interests of this thesis is to develop, following a strategy developed during the thesis, a spatial database conducted over the period 1989-2009 to estimate the ability of the WRF model to reproduce the climate Burgundy by disaggregating large scale data. The model reproduces satisfactorily the seasonal and spatial variability in global climate despite bias (cold on the Tx and hot on the Tn).To regionalize the climate change, WRF was used to disaggregate data from the scenario SRES/A2 on the periods 1970-1987 and 2031-2048. After being evaluated and inter-compared three phenological models, using average temperatures data to simulate the dates of occurrence of phenological stages of Pinot Noir, have been applied to these decompositions.The impact of warming temperatures on the horizon 2031-2048 (SRES/A2), estimated at 1.35 ° C on average, is characterized by an earlier flowering and veraison of about 7 and 15 days respectively. Realiza un estudio fitoquímico y la actividad biológica de la parte aérea de la especie vegetal peruana Ephedra americana, denominada comúnmente pinco-pinco. Se ubicó y recolectó la planta en el mes de mayo de 2001 en las zonas orginarias altoandinas del departamento del Cusco, en la provincia de Calca aproximadamente a 3500 msnrn. Utiliza una muestra en polvo, para realizar la marcha fitoquímica. Determina la presencia de alcaloides, compuestos fenólicos tipo flavonoides, taninos, glicósidos, etc. Observa que los metabolitos secundarios eran de mediana y alta polaridad mediante ensayos de solubilidad. Confirma la presencia de flavonoides mediante técnicas cromatográficas. Realiza la separación de los compuestos fenólicos por cromatografia en columna rápida. Obtiene varias fracciones que fueron purificadas mediante cromatografia a escala preparativa utilizando diversos sistemas de solventes. Elucida estructuralmente cinco flavonoides de conocida actividad antioxidante: Hesperidina, Crisina, 5, 7,3' ,4' -tetrahidroxi-6,8-di-R flavona, 5, 7,3 '-trihidroxi-6, 4 '-dimetoxi flavonol y 4' -hidroxi-5, 7 -dimetoxi flavonona. Determina en el extracto etanólico, actividad inrnunoestimulante, efecto antioxidante, acción tóxica sobre la artemia salina, acción antiulcerosa, acción sobre la motilidad intestinal, actividad antiinflamatoria, su toxicidad y actividad antimicrobiana. Al realizar el estudio biológico en ratas, se observa una respuesta efectiva frente al sistema inmune, no presenta actividad tóxica para el hombre.

Mais que no esquecimento, o nome de André Gonçalves residiu longamente no limbo das ideias feitas, vagas e sempre repetidas, de geração em geração historiográfica. Só muito recentemente, se começaram a esboçar os contornos da sua personalidade, humana e artística. Foi nessa linha, que este estudo buscou inserir-se. Tentou traçar-se um percurso artístico, identificando quadros, fontes e influências, que permitam estabelecer o contributo especial - que foi grande - deste artista, para a configuração da nossa pintura barroca. Estudar André Gonçalves significa estudar as condições de aprendizagem e produção, que limitavam e enquadravam a actividade de um pintor, na Lisboa de D. JoãoV. Procurou-se, pois, integrar o conjunto da sua obra numa realidade mais vasta, sobre a qual não deixou Igualmente de ter efeitos. Assim, se o artista e o necessário produto das circunstâncias da sua época, não é menos verdade que nela deixou a sua marca, contribuindo para a configuração da pintura joanina, que hoje, vamos começando a conhecer melhor. 0 redobrado interesse dos historiadores da arte e da cultura pelo período barroco, que recentemente se tem vindo a manifestar, tem tido, como resultado, a paulatina descoberta de um tempo e uma sociedade, cujo fascínio permanece inalterado e parece ainda aumentar, à medida que se vai penetrando no meandro dos seus excessos e contradições. No domínio da pintura, porem, subsiste um largo campo por desbravar. Catalytic hydrodeoxygenation (HDO), is an effective process to convert oxygenated compounds to hydrocarbons. This process is widely used for improving the negative properties of biomass-derived pyrolysis oils (bio-oils) such as high acidity, poor stability, and low heating value. During this process oxygen is removed from the bio-oil in the form of water, thus the liquid product of HDO process consists of aqueous phase and hydrocarbon phase that can be easily separated. Synthesis of efficient HDO catalyst has been a major challenge in the field of bio-oil upgrading. Red mud, which is an alkaline waste from alumina industry was used to develop a new red mud-supported nickel catalyst (Ni/RM) for the HDO of pinyon-juniper catalytic pyrolysis oil. The new catalyst was more effective than the commercial Ni/silica-alumina catalyst for the HDO of organic phase pyrolysis oil, the aqueous phase pyrolysis oil, and bio-oil model compounds. Less hydrogen was consumed in the case of Ni/RM and more liquid hydrocarbon yield was obtained compared to the commercial catalyst. In addition to HDO reactions, the Ni/RM catalyst catalyzed ketonization and carbonyl alkylation reactions that was important to produce liquid hydrocarbon from low molecular weight oxygenated compounds. Unlike the commercial catalyst, Ni/RM was regenerable by burning off the deposited coke and activation by reduction using hydrogen.

La present tesi doctoral es centra en la figura de Manuel Rocamora Vidal (Barcelona, 1892-1976), col·leccionista, pintor, escriptor i promotor cultural. És especialment conegut com a col·leccionista d’indumentària antiga, aplegant un important conjunt de peces femenines, masculines, infantils i litúrgiques, així com els seus accessoris, des del segle XIV fins al segle XX, essent especialment nombroses les pertanyents als segles XVIII i XIX. Per aquest motiu, la resta de facetes del personatge s’han vist oblidades, i és per això que l’objectiu de la investigació és donar a conèixer totes les seves ocupacions i analitzar l’aportació i la importància global de Manuel Rocamora. L’estudi comença amb una semblança biogràfica del personatge, així com del seu cercle familiar i social, que ens ajuda a ubicar-lo dins el context artístic i burgès de la Barcelona del segle XX. A continuació es tracta la vessant més important, que és la del col·leccionisme, on s’emfatitza que, a part del seu recull d’indumentària, va configurar moltes altres sèries: nines i autòmats, pintura, ceràmica, mascarons de proa, reclams publicitaris, targes de visita, exlibris, etc. Moltes de les seves col·leccions varen ser prestades a exposicions o bé donades a diferents museus d’arreu de Catalunya i de Madrid, a part de conservar-se una selecció a la seva pròpia residència. Es destaca especialment la indumentària, fent un estudi sobre les seves peces més importants, el seu valor en conjunt, la formació de la col·lecció i la trajectòria per diversos museus, motivada per les donacions parcials a la Junta de Museus i als Museus d’Art de Barcelona, per ser definitivament donada a l’Ajuntament de Barcelona. Aquesta circumstància comportaria la constitució d’un museu propi situat al Palau del Marquès de Llió del carrer Montcada. Tot seguit s’aporta una panoràmica sobre la seva carrera com a pintor, participant en nombroses exposicions, tant individuals com col·lectives, a conegudes galeries barcelonines com La Pinacoteca o les Galeries Laietanes. A més, s’inclou un catàleg raonat de la seva producció. Igualment es fa esment a l’escriptura, amb una relació de les obres publicades; i a la labor com a promotor cultural dins l’àmbit barceloní, on fundà i promogué diverses associacions. Per últim es tracta la constitució de la Fundación Cultural Privada Rocamora, institució que preserva el seu llegat i fou creada a la mateixa residència de Rocamora després de la seva mort.
This doctoral thesis focuses on the figure of Manuel Rocamora Vidal (Barcelona, 1892-1976), collector, painter, writer and cultural promoter. He is best known as a collector of historical clothing, including an important set of women’s, men’s, children’s and liturgical pieces, as well as their accessories, from the fourteenth to the twentieth century, being especially numerous those belonging to the eighteenth and the nineteenth century. For this reason, the other facets of the character have been forgotten, which is why the aim of the research is to let know all his occupations and analyse the contribution and overall importance of Manuel Rocamora. The study begins with his biography, along with information about his family and social circle, which helps us to situate him in the artistic and bourgeois context of the twentieth century in Barcelona. Next is detailed the most important aspect, which is the collectionism, where it is emphasised that, apart from its clothing collection, he reunited many other series: dolls and automata, painting, ceramics, figureheads, advertising items, business cards, exlibris, etc. A lot of his collections were lent at exhibitions or donated to different museums around Catalonia and Madrid, apart from keeping a selection inside his own home. The clothing collection is specially highlighted. This work studies the most important pieces, its overall value, the formation of the collection and its trajectory between various museums, motivated by partial donations to the Junta de Museus and Museus d’Art de Barcelona, to be finally donated to the City Council of Barcelona. This circumstance would imply the constitution of a collector’s museum located at the Marquis of Llió Palace in Montcada Street. Next there is an overview of his career as a painter, since Rocamora participated in numerous exhibitions, both individual and collective, in remarkable art galleries of Barcelona such as La Pinacoteca or Galeries Laietanes. Moreover, it is included a catalogue raisonné of the artist’s work. Also it is referenced his writing, with a list of published works; and his labour as a cultural promoter especially in Barcelona, where he founded and promoted various associations. Finally, it is addressed the constitution of the Fundación Cultural Privada Rocmamora, an institution that preserves the collector’s legacy and was created in his residence right after his death.

A physically-based, user friendly, hydrologic computer simulation model was developed for pinyon-juniper woodland watersheds. The data requirements are minimum, requiring vegetation conditions, basic soil survey information, and daily values for precipitation and temperature. The model predicts runoff from cleared and uncleared watersheds by simulating hydrologic processes on a daily basis. The model was tested with data from small pinyon-juniper watersheds in central Arizona. A crack-forming vertisol was the dominant soil type, and a special feature for addressing its effects on runoff was included. No significant difference between predicted and observed annual runoff was found at the ninety-five percent confidence level.

Neste trabalho observouse o declínio da influência da França na literatura brasileira, sobretudo a partir da segunda metade do século passado e buscouse conhecer as tendências da poética contemporânea naquele país. O foco principal da dissertação foi a obra do poeta e crítico JeanClaude Pinson, especialmente seu livro Free Jazz. Através de seus textos buscouse conhecer algumas correntes da poesia da França, especialmente aquela à qual ele se vincula: a da busca de uma póética , cujas raízes estão fincadas no Romantismo Alemão e no pensamento do poeta italiano Leopardi. JeanClaude Pinson recorre a um estilo multifacetado, caracterizado por ele como poikilos, termo grego utilizado em As Bacantes de Eurípedes para designar algo pintalgado, de aspecto diversificado e sem clara definição de gênero. Também foi constatado que a crítica poética de JeanClaude Pinson se opõe a certas características da poesia moderna enunciadas no clássico de Hugo Friedrich, Estrutura da lírica moderna . Tal fato o insere numa linhagem de críticos como Yves Bonnefoy, Alfonso Berardinelli e Michael Hamburger. A leitura de Free Jazz mostrou as particularidades da escrita de um poeta contemporâneo da França e a coerência entre sua poesia e seu pensamento crítico. Revelou também elementos susceptíveis de possibilitar o estudo comparativo entre a escrita praticada por poetas franceses e brasileiros

For the last decade, practical limitations have prevented processor speeds from increasing significantly. To increase throughput, the computing industry has turned to multiprocessing; that is, executing computations in parallel on separate processing units. Making use of these additional units requires support from the operating system (OS). Indeed, most modern operating systems do have the capability of recognizing and utilizing multiprocessor hardware. Pintos is an instructional operating system used by many institutions to teach important operating systems concepts. Pintos aims to increase student engagement by providing challenging programming projects in which students personally implement many core functionalities of an operating system. However, prior to this work, Pintos was a uniprocessor OS. This makes it difficult for Pintos to expose students to the same synchronization challenges that most modern kernel developers face. In addition, the first structured project, aimed at teaching scheduling policies, requires students to implement an uniprocessor variant of MLFQS scheduler which is no longer used in modern systems. We implemented Symmetric MultiProcessing (SMP) support in Pintos. We also created a new scheduling assignment to expose students to a multiprocessor proportional-share scheduling policy called Completely Fair Scheduler and to introduce them to the concept of load balancing. Finally, we evaluate the effectiveness of our new Pintos framework in augmenting students’ knowledge of OS scheduling and enhancing their ability to code and debug in a low-level environment.

Le but de cette thèse est de décrire la littérarité pingetienne, grâce à l'étude de ses lieux esthétiques fondamentaux : la récriture et la fragmentation. D'inspiration structuraliste, ce travail se fonde sur une stylistique de la réception, dans la lignée des travaux de Riffaterre, de Jauss et d'Iser, entre autres. Le premier chapitre dresse une typologie des récritures qui, en tenant compte de l'utilisation de l'oral relâché dans l'œuvre, prouve la difficulté à identifier, au fil du texte, l'émetteur du discours. Tirant profit de la théorie actantielle de Georges Molinié, le deuxième chapitre éclaire d'une part l'émergence d'une temporalité spécifique, une manière de présent perpétuel, du fait de la présence des récritures sur l'ensemble des niveaux structurels de l'œuvre ; d'autre part l'échec du narrateur à appréhender un réel illimité et insaisissable, la fragmentation affectant son discours sans atteindre celui des personnages. Enfin, le troisième chapitre plonge au cœur du régime fragmentaire pour souligner combien l'esthétique pingetienne noyaute la convention littéraire. Il démontre également la nécessité, pour atteindre à la plénitude de cette œuvre discontinue, d'une lecture active assimilable à la démarche alchimique
The present thesis - which examines two of Pinget's fundamental aesthetic stances: reiteration and fragmentation - attempts to describe his approach to literature. Derived from structuralism, the thesis follows the stylistics of reader involvement in the intellectual tradition of Riffaterre, Jauss, Iser, and others. The first chapter draws up an inventory of his reiterative techniques, including his use of lax idiomatics, and reveals the difficulty the reader has in identifying who is actually saying what. The second chapter, using Georges Molinié's theory, sheds light on (a) the emergence of his own specific use of time - a sort of perpetual present - due to the reiterations scattered through the various structural levels of his work and (b) the narrator's failure to create an unlimited, elusive reality, because although his discourse is fragmented, those of characters are not. The final chapter delves deep into the heart of the fragmentation system and underlines the extent to which the Pinget's aesthetics worm their way around literary convention. It also shows that, to do full justice to and derive the most from his almost disembodied writing, a process of active reading (transmuting it into a different level of involvement) is needed

Robert pinget, ecrivain ayant appartenu au groupe du "nouveau roman", a cherche a montrer par son oeuvre, que la litterature ne devait plus, comme au xixe siecle, etre une representation du reel mais que le recit devait ressembler a une composition textuelle aux multiples sens et comprendre une reflexion sur l'ecriture. Nous nous proposons de voir comment l'auteur recuse la definition traditionnelle du roman, d'abord en presentant dans une perspective intratextuelle, le paysage geographique des differents ouvrages (dynamiques des lieux et des personnages); puis, dans une double perspective, inter et meta textuelle, en revelant les techniques narratives (distanciation des genres litteraires existant, ironie critique) qui servent a la construction d'un genre hybride et original. Nous montrerons que la remise en cause des formes traditionnelles n'implique pas un rejet systematique du passe et qu'au fil des oeuvres, pinget s'en rapproche sensiblement
Robert pinget (formerly a memeber of the "nouveau roman" group) has tried through his work to prove that literature should not be a representation of the real, as it was in the xix century, but that a story should be like a textual composition fraught with multiple meanings also including a reflection upon writing. We are trying to see how the author rejects the traditional definition of the novel: first by presenting the geographical landscape of different works (dynamics of places and characters) through an intratextual perspective; then through a double (inter and meta) perspective, by studying the different techniques (taking distances from existing literary genres, using critical irony, etc) which help to construct a hydrid and original genre. We are going to prove that, though questioning the traditional novel forms, pinget does not completely refuse the past and indeed draws nearer to it in the course of this work

Pinyon and juniper are invasive woody species which has occupied more than 47 million acres of land in Western United States. Pinyon juniper woodlands domination decreases the herbaceous vegetation, increase bare lands which in turn increases soil erosion and nutrition loss. Thus, The US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has focused on harvesting these woody species to make room for herbaceous vegetation. The major application of harvested pinyon-juniper (PJ) is low value firewood. Thus, there is a need to develop new high value products from this woody biomass to reduce the cost of harvesting. In this study pyrolysis was carried out to investigate the feasibility of converting pinyon juniper biomass to value added products. The first part of the study was focused on biomass characterization, and effect of biomass type on product yields. The second part focuses on optimization of process parameters on product yields. The third part focuses on catalytic pyrolysis for improving the quality of bio-oil. In this study it has been shown that pinyon juniper biomass could be effectively used as biomass in fast pyrolysis and red mud, an industrial waste could be used as catalyst in catalytic pyrolysis to improve the quality of the bio-oil.

Vine performance, fruit and wine composition were investigated on field grown Pinot Noir grapevines subjected to a range of leaf removal and cluster thinning treatments. Both treatments were applied in three levels (25 %, 50 % and 100 % of leaves and clusters retained, respectively) at the phenological stage of pea-size. New emerging leaves were removed as they appeared. Veraison was delayed when leaf area to fruit weight ratio (LA/Y) dropped below a certain threshold (13 cm2 g-1). On the contrary a high LA/Y ratio (> 26 cm2g-1) did not show any difference on fruit colouration. No significant differences in single leaf photosynthetic rate were observed between the treatments, however, there was a trend that vines from the 50 % leaf retained treatment tended to exhibit highest values for stomatal conductance and photosynthesis. Defoliated vines compensated for a restricted leaf area by increasing individual leaf size of the remaining leaves.The results of the present study suggest that fruit is produced at the expense of vegetative growth. High crop levels resulted in a decrease of individual leaf size. Moreover, pruning weight and LA/Y ratio were positively correlated. Sugar accumulation in grape berries were shown to follow a saturation curve. An increase of the source to sink ratio up to a certain point was accompanied by an increase in sugar accumulation. If this threshold was exceeded, additional leaf area did not promote higher sugar accumulation, indicating that the vine might be sink-limited. The most severe defoliation treatment significantly reduced berry size and berry weight. No consistent pattern between titratable acidity, pH and YAN and leaf area to fruit weight ratio could be found. Wine tannin content and wine colour parameters were not affected by the treatments

Abstract:
The effects of varying levels of sulphur dioxide (SO₂) on the cold maceration process was investigated with Pinot noir (Vitis vinifera L.) wine. The effects of these varying levels on the wines composition and colour parameters were examined. Cold maceration is a technique whereby grapes are crushed and placed at low temperatures (4 - lO°C) in the presence 50 - 150 mgL⁻¹ SO₂. This process is believed to provide a medium for the extraction of water soluble phenolic compounds, rather than the alcoholic extraction employed in normal fermentations. The extraction of these phenolic compounds was monitored from the juice through to six months of bottle age. The changes were measured using both Spectrophotometric and High Performance Liquid Chromatographic (HPLC) procedures. Cold maceration wines were found to be not significantly different to the control wine in all compositional parameters other than titrateable acidity which was found to be less than the control for all the cold maceration wines. The unsulphured cold maceration wine was not significantly different from the control wine in any of the spectral measurements except natural degree of ionisation, in which it was higher, and total phenolics, in which it was lower. These results indicate that the cold maceration process alone does not alter the extraction of phenolic compounds. The HPLC analysis of the wine confirmed the spectral results indicating that their were no significant differences in the levels of extraction of anthocyanins. The sulphured cold maceration wines were significantly greater than the control in visible colour, colour density, total anthocyanins, natural degree of ionisation, ionised anthocyanins and total phenolics. These results followed similar patterns with wine ageing, at six months these wines were still significantly greater in all the measurements apart from natural degree of ionisation. The results for the sulphured cold maceration wines indicates that SO₂ is acting as a solvent for the extraction of phenolic compounds including anthocyanins. The 50 mgL⁻¹ SO₂ cold maceration wine had similar colour and phenolic content to the 100 mgL⁻¹ SO₂ cold maceration wine at bottling, at six months the 50 mgL⁻¹ SO₂ cold maceration wine still retained a similar colour to the 100 mgL⁻¹ SO₂ cold maceration wine but had vastly reduced anthocyanin content. This indicates that for the grapes utilised in this study the most appropriate level of addition at cold maceration would be 50 mgL⁻¹ of SO₂. With grapes of differing phenolic content the level of addition required will vary.

Uppsatsens syfte är att undersöka äldre individers (ålder 55+) upplevelse av nytta och användarvänlighet vad det gäller bankkort utan pinkod samt om valda externa variabler påverkar dessa huvudvariabler och i sådana fall hur. För att se eventuella samband skapades en egen modell som består av valda externa variabler: tidigare erfarenhet, upplevd risk, tillit och teknofobi samt av huvudvariablerna upplevd nytta samt upplevd användarvänlighet. Datainsamling skapades genom enkätundersökning som sändes ut på SPF Seniorernas Facebooksida och besvarades av 252 personer. Resultaten visade att äldre upplever en användarvänlighet med bankkort utan pinkod men ingen nytta. Studien visade även att nästan samtliga hypoteser kunde accepteras då samband fanns mellan variablerna i studiens analysmodell. Detta gäller inte för sambandet mellan variabeln tidigare erfarenhet och huvudvariablerna, då ett klart samband mellan dem inte kunde finnas. Upplevd risk och teknofobi hade en negativ påverkan på den upplevda nyttan och användarvänligheten medan tillit hade en positiv påverkan på dem.

O objecto de desejo colmata a falta impressa de origem e sob o signo da carência e da falta o pintor repõe o desejo com os traços de Eros. A compulsão à repetição das mesmas formas comporta uma imbrição das pulsões de vida - Eros - e das pulsões de morte - Thanatos -, repetição ligada ao automatismo e ao surrealismo que o domínio de Eros faz escapar à dor do desamparo e o pintor aprende na experiência, ensaia a separação e restaura os objectos internos e as relações objectais.

Bearing setting has a significant impact on bearing life and system performance. A strain based load measurement technique that has been previously developed and patented will be used to measure preload in automotive drive axle pinion bearings. This technique utilizes strain gages placed in notches that have been machined into the outer diameter of a bearing cup. The performance of two gage types, semiconductor and metal foil, are compared. Preload in the pinion bearings is simulated in a machine by applying an axial load to a bearing assembly. The bearing assembly is rotated at various speeds and temperatures for each set of axial loads. Two notch geometries are compared for each set of tests conducted. An effort has been made to develop a finite element model that can be used to verify the results of the gage calibration. The results of the calibration reveal that metal foil and semiconductor gages can provide preload measurements that are accurate to within 3.7% and 7.7% of the full scale input load (73 lbs. and 155 lbs.) respectively.

O presente estudo trata da linguagem pictórica do artista plástico Mario Zanini (1907-1971), tomando como referência suas leituras dedicadas à temática da paisagem. Norteia os esforços desta investigação a seguinte questão: será possível reconhecer os paralelos entre a produção pictórica de Zanini e as discussões sobre a questão da paisagem apresentada em sua biblioteca particular? Na busca por uma resposta, foram selecionados três livros (Paul Cézanne, Vincent Van Gogh e André Lhote) que compõem a Biblioteca particular de Mario Zanini, formada entre as décadas de 1930 e 1970, e posteriormente doada ao MAC USP, em conjunto com obras produzidas pelo artista. Este estudo também apresenta dois críticos que escolheram Mario Zanini como foco de suas pesquisas: Alice Brill e Walter Zanini. Ao final, o leitor encontrará a listagem com os títulos dos 226 livros da Biblioteca de Mario Zanini, ordenados pela data de publicação.
The research deals with the pictorial language and the landscape paintings of the Brazilian artist Mario Zanini (1907-1971), and the connections with his private Library, constituted between 1930 and 1970, and later donated by his family to MAC USP, along with his artworks. The study traces the parallels between his artworks and his pictorial language, through three books of his Library (Paul Cézanne, Vincent Van Gogh and André Lhote). The study is also based on the analysis of the art critics Walter Zanini and Alice Brill. Nevertheless, the total set of 226 books of his personal Library and their identifications are listed at the end of the thesis, sorted by date of publication.

This bachelor thesis will demonstrate and explain the building of a jumping robot. This work took place during the Spring semester of 2019 and was finished in May. The scope was to build a foot sized robot that can regulate jumping force and angle, while maintaining the ability to land safely and with its right side up. This thesis required that the robot made use of sensors and microcontrollers. The electronics used for this robot was an Arduino UNO, an IMU and several servos. The code behind the jump was based on the switch case statement model. Jack was built with three subsystems in mind: Energy storage to use for jumping, Decoupling for releasing a variable amount stored energy quickly and Suspension for reducing impact on landing and to prevent tipping. The work resulted in a robot who could jump 6.5% of its body length, regulate jump power and land on its feet. In conclusion, even though some of the subsystems were successful, our model of an jumping robot is insufficient due to its low jump height.
Detta kandidatexamensarbete redovisar planeringen och byggandet av en robot som kan hoppa. Arbetet varade under vårterminen 2019 och slutfördes i maj. Arbetet krävde att roboten skulle använda sig av sensorer och mikroprocesser. Elektroniken som användes i arbetet var en Arduino UNO, en IMU och ett flertal servo motorer. Koden bakom hoppet baserades på switch case statementmodellen. Jack är byggd med tre delsystem åtanke: Energilagring för hoppet, Avkoppling för att avlösa en varierande mängd lagrad energi snabbt och Dämpning för att reducera stötar vid landning och för att förhindra att roboten välter. Arbetet resulterade i en robot som kan hoppa 6.5% av sin längd, regulera hoppkraften och landa utan att välta. Vi kom fram till, även om vissa delsystem var lyckade, att vår modell av en hoppande robot inte är tillräcklig på grund av sin låga hopphöjd.

César Calvo de Araújo es conocido en la ciudad de Iquitos debido a que una de las vías principales lleva su nombre, sin embargo, tanto en esa ciudad como en otros medios dedicados a la historia de la pintura, muy poco se sabe de su trayectoria como pintor. Cuando descubrí algunos datos sobre él, mientras frecuentaba las aulas universitarias, despertó la inquietud por indagar en su vida y producción pictórica. Encontrar el álbum de fotos y recortes periodísticos elaborado por el propio artista significó una meta en esa búsqueda. Hoy me complace presentar este trabajo que pretende ser un aporte para la historia de la plástica en la región Loreto. En el acápite inicial del trabajo, organizado en tres capítulos, se plantea el tema, los lineamientos básicos de la investigación y la metodología empleada en su ejecución. El segundo capítulo comprende un panorama histórico de los principales acontecimientos transcurridos en la Amazonía peruana, sucesos que han contribuido en la formación del carácter del poblador local. También se ha incluido acápite sobre las expresiones culturales en la ciudad más importante de la Amazonía durante la primera mitad del siglo XX, localidad donde habitó el pintor objeto de estudio. La sección dedicada a la exposición amazónica, realizada en Lima en el año 1943, proporciona alcances sobre la visión que se tenía en esta ciudad de aquella alejada región. Finaliza el capítulo una visión panorámica del tema de selva tratado por pintores anteriores y contemporáneos de Calvo de Araújo. La biografía es la primera sección del tercer capítulo, presenta un ordenamiento cronológico de los principales acontecimientos en su vida y resaltan aspectos como el entorno social, viajes y exhibiciones. En la sección dedicada a la producción artística se incluyen referencias sobre la pintura mural, la obra narrativa y un detallado análisis de la pintura de caballete objeto principal del estudio. Se plantean tres etapas evolutivas con aproximaciones en cuanto a sus características y extensos desarrollos sobre los principales géneros que ejecutó, el paisaje y el retrato.
