Celestite in the Weathering Crust on Limestone Exposed to an Urban Atmosphere in Cracow (Poland)Celestite containing very low amounts of barium occurs in weathering reaction zones developed on the Pińczów limestone exposed to the polluted atmosphere of Cracow. The mineral occurs both in limestone pore spaces filled with gypsum and in black gypsum crust. The Pińczów limestone contains ca 500 ppm strontium which was released during the reaction with atmospheric pollutants. The nucleation and growth of celestite, requiring significant concentration of components in evaporating solutions, is assoc

The geographic distribution of Crocodylia in Europe throughout the Cenozoic experienced fluctuations in the extension of its northern limit. Whereas crocodylians reached very high latitudes during the early Eocene (78ºN), their northward extension was more moderate during almost the entire Paleogene and the Neogene. Here we reassess previous Early-to- Middle Miocene crocodylian records from the Fore-Carpathian Basin and its foreland, namely from marine limestones of Pińczów (Poland), and Židlochovice (Czechia) and from the new vertebrate site of Szczerców (Poland), currently interpreted as a f

In this paper an effort has been taken to check usefulness for such evaluations River Habitat Survey (RHS) – British research method, which is used in Poland for classification of ecological quality of surface waters from the view-point of their actual hydromorphological state. The possibilities of using this method in field teaching of geography students were checked. For this purpose, the RHS method was modified and adapted to the need

Abstract The Crataegus and Rosa genera are critical taxa. Because of difficulties in species identification, nobody has dealt with the distribution of these genera in the Solec Basin (Niecka Solecka) and southern part of the PiOczUw Hummock (Garb PiOczowski) thus far. The aim of this work was prepare a complete list of critical species of these genera in the study area. The floristic studies were carried out in the years 2004-2009. Nineteen species were recorded: 6 hawthorns and 13 roses. Seven species were new for the flora of the studied area (4 roses and 3 hawthorns).

Abstract This paper presents the results of our studies on the preferences of the flower chafer, Protaetia speciosissima (Scopoli, 1786). The studies were carried out in 2009-2010 in the Forest Districts of Hajnówka, Krotoszyn, Łochów, Pińczów, and Puławy, located in various regions of Poland. Barrier traps consisting of a Moericke’s trap and a Malaise’s trap combined with a barrier of fine net were used to collect beetles. Traps were installed at two heights in over 100 years old oak stands, with the upper level in the canopy layer (mean height of 20.5 m) and the lower level adjacent to the t

Abstract Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) was introduced in Poland over 200 years ago, and its distribution area now covers the whole country, with the highest concentration of occurrence in the western part. Breeding of this species has been started in Poland for about 20 years, albeit on a limited scale, and two selected seed stands, 34 plus trees and two seed orchards have been registered. So far, selection efforts have not been coupled with the recognition of variation in the genetic structure of local populations. To fill the knowledge gap on genetic diversity, we selected the seven

The knowledge and spread of scientific literature on early childhood music education, whose authors come from the academic community in Gdańsk (mainly from Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music and the University of Gdańsk) is rather limited. The author – pointing at the possible reasons for this situation – presents the titular issue in its historical aspect. The 1970s are shown as the beginning of the formation of a group of scientists interested in the issues of early childhood music education. In this context, she emphasizes the importance of the creation and development of logorhythmics in
