Abstract:

Abstract:

Considered the issues of interaction between man and nature. Noted that this interaction is fundamental in the existence of modern civilization. The question of possible impact on nature and society with the aim of preserving the existence of human civilization. It is shown that the study of this issue goes towards the crea-tion of models of interaction between nature and man. Determining when building models is information about the interaction of man and nature. Considered information theory from the viewpoint of interaction between nature and man. Noted that currently information theory developed mainly as a mathematical theory. The issues of interaction of man and nature, the availability and existence of information in the material sys-tem is not studied. Indicates the link information with the energy terms control large flows of energy. For con-sideration of the interaction of man and nature proposed to use the theory of degradation. Graphs are pre-sented of the information in the history of human development. Reviewed charts of population growth. As a prediction it is proposed to use the simplest based on the theory of degradation. Consideration of the behav-ior of these dependencies led to the conclusion about the existence of communication energy and information as a feature of the degradation of energy. It justifies the existence of border life ( including humanity) at the point with maximum information. Shows the relationship of energy and time using potential energy.

Abstract:
Background: Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disease characterized by abnormal protein accumulation, synaptic dysfunction, and cognitive impairment. Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor-γ (PPARγ) play a crucial role in regulating insulin sensitivity and may serve as potential therapeutic targets for AD. Pioglitazone (PIOG), as a PPARγ agonist, reduces β-amyloid and tau proteins, and inhibits neuroinflammation. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effects of PIOG chronic administration on learning and memory in rat model of Streptozotocin (STZ)-induced AD Methods: Forty-two male Wistar rats were divided into two groups: A. Normal rats divided into three subgroups of Control, Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO), and PIOG; and B. AD rats divided into four subgroups of Vehicle, STZ, STZ+DMSO and STZ+PIOG. The last two AD subgroups received 0.2 mL DMSO and PIOG (10 mg/kg per day) for 21 days. For induction of AD, STZ (3 mg/kg, 10 μl per injection site) were administered into lateral ventricles. All rates were trained under the Morris water maze task. Findings: PIOG impaired the spatial learning and memory in normal rats. Intracerebroventricular injection of STZ significantly increased escape latency and swimming time to find the hidden platform compared to the control group (P<0.05). The amnesic effect of STZ was prevented by PIOG administration such that the escape latency and swimming time to find the hidden platform in the STZ+PIOG group were significantly lower than in the STZ+DMSO group (P<0.05). Conversely, the percentage of time spent and distance swimming in the target quadrant in the probe test in the STZ+ PIOG group rats were significantly higher than those in the STZ + DMSO group. Conclusion: PIOG administration impaired spatial learning and memory in normal rats, but improved learning and memory in rats with STZ-induced AD. It can be useful for treatment of cognitive impairment in AD patients.

Abstract:
A new species of the clionaid genus Pione is described from the south-western Atlantic in Argentine waters. Pione angelae sp. nov. is the first record of the genus from southern South America. It occurs on shells of Olivancillaria urceus and Buccinanops monilifer, two common gastropods living off Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina (38°01′41″S 57°31′07″W) that are inhabited by the hermit crab Loxopagurus loxochelis. Pione angelae sp. nov. is visible on the shell surfaces as circular papillar perforations of 312 μm on average with regular diameters. They lead directly into interconnected chambers from both sides of the shell. The chambers form well-defined galleries in dense substratum. Straight tylostyles in two size-classes (defined by their length: width ratio) occur: 158.6 μm length×2.1 μm width and 185.0×4.5 μm, with spherical heads. Microscleres are more common than tylostyles, with microspined acanthoxeas of 91 μm length, slightly bent in the centre, as well as spirasters of 12 μm length with spines more concentrated on the crests of the spirals; rarely they are straight (microrhabd like). The present samples are compared to similar valid species of the same genus and it is concluded that they represent a new species.

Abstract:
In this work the effect of two different musical pieces (called “Reminiscenza” and “Pioggia”) on the tyrosinase enzyme activity was investigated. The l-DOPA production by the enzymatic reaction was measured during the continuous playing of these musical pieces. Experiments were performed in the laboratories of the Institute of Membrane Technology (ITM) of the Italian National Council for Research (CNR). The results showed that a positive effect was exercised by the “Reminiscenza” piece, which determined an increase of the specific activity about of 30 % with respect to the value measured in the absence of sound. On the contrary, “Pioggia” piece had a detrimental effect on the enzymatic process. In particular, a time lag on the l-DOPA production, during the first minutes of the reaction, was detected. After this period, an increase of the reaction velocity occurred even if the enzyme activity was lower than the value obtained in the absence of music. These results show that the peculiar characteristics of a musical piece can exercise a positive or negative action on biological elements and open the way to further studies in this area.

AbstractThe Pioche Formation of SE Nevada preserves a diverse soft-bodied fauna from the early and middle Cambrian (Series 2–3: Stage 4–5). While the fauna is dominated by arthropods, animals belonging to other taxa can be found. Here we document the first occurrence of Herpetogaster collinsi outside the Burgess Shale. Further, the specimens are from the Nephrolenellus multinodus biozone and thus represent the oldest occurrence of the species, as well as possibly the earliest soft-bodied deuterostomes in Laurentia.

Abstract:
A new Burgess Shale-type soft-bodied fauna crossing the Lower-Middle Cambrian boundary in the Comet Shale Member of the Pioche Formation in Lincoln County, Nevada, contains common remains of soft-bodied ecdysozoan taxa. These fossils provide important new information about the nature and variety of Cambrian soft-bodied organisms. Arthropod taxa include one species of Canadaspis Novozhilov in Orlov, 1960, one species of ?Perspicaris Briggs, 1977, three species of Tuzoia Walcott, 1912, and at least two species of Anomalocaris Whiteaves, 1892. A priapulid referable to Ottoia Walcott, 1911a, was also recovered. A comprehensive review of Tuzoia is given. Some specimens from Early Cambrian sections are replaced by hematite, resulting in iron staining similar to that in such other Early Cambrian soft-bodied faunas as the Kinzers Formation in Pennsylvania. Some taxa in the Comet Shale, and in other Early and Middle Cambrian soft-bodied faunas, have prodigious geographic ranges that spanned much of Laurentia and even other Cambrian cratons. Moreover, these taxa ranged across the Early-Middle Cambrian boundary relatively unscathed. This is in contrast to many trilobite taxa that had narrow geographic ranges in the Early Cambrian and high levels of extinction at the Early-Middle Cambrian boundary.

Abstract:
The lack of effective treatments for mitochondrial disease has seen the development of new approaches, including those that aim to stimulate mitochondrial biogenesis to boost ATP generation above a critical disease threshold. Here, we examine the effects of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) activator pioglitazone (PioG), in combination with deoxyribonucleosides (dNs), on mitochondrial biogenesis in cybrid cells containing >90% of the m.3243A>G mutation associated with mitochondrial encephalopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes (MELAS). PioG + dNs combination treatment increased mtDNA copy number and mitochondrial mass in both control (CON) and m.3243A>G (MUT) cybrids, with no adverse effects on cell proliferation. PioG + dNs also increased mtDNA-encoded transcripts in CON cybrids, but had the opposite effect in MUT cybrids, reducing the already elevated transcript levels. Steady-state levels of mature oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) protein complexes were increased by PioG + dNs treatment in CON cybrids, but were unchanged in MUT cybrids. However, treatment was able to significantly increase maximal mitochondrial oxygen consumption rates and cell respiratory control ratios in both CON and MUT cybrids. Overall, these findings highlight the ability of PioG + dNs to improve mitochondrial respiratory function in cybrid cells containing the m.3243A>G MELAS mutation, as well as their potential for development into novel therapies to treat mitochondrial disease.

Abstract:
Recent investigations on neurological tissues preserved in Cambrian fossils have clarified the phylogenetic affinities and head segmentation in pivotal members of stem-group Euarthropoda. However, palaeoneuroanatomical features are often incomplete or described from single exceptional specimens, raising concerns about the morphological interpretation of fossilized neurological structures and their significance for early euarthropod evolution. Here, we describe the central nervous system (CNS) of the short great-appendage euarthropod Alalcomenaeus based on material from two Cambrian Burgess Shale-type deposits of the American Great Basin, the Pioche Formation (Stage 4) and the Marjum Formation (Drumian). The specimens reveal complementary ventral and lateral views of the CNS, preserved as a dark carbonaceous compression throughout the body. The head features a dorsal brain connected to four stalked ventral eyes, and four pairs of segmental nerves. The first to seventh trunk tergites overlie a ventral nerve cord with seven ganglia, each associated with paired sets of segmental nerve bundles. Posteriorly, the nerve cord features elongate thread-like connectives. The Great Basin fossils strengthen the original description—and broader evolutionary implications—of the CNS in Alalcomenaeus from the early Cambrian (Stage 3) Chengjiang deposit of South China. The spatio-temporal recurrence of fossilized neural tissues in Cambrian Konservat-Lagerstätten across North America (Pioche, Burgess Shale, Marjum) and South China (Chengjiang, Xiaoshiba) indicates that their preservation is consistent with the mechanism of Burgess Shale-type fossilization, without the need to invoke alternative taphonomic pathways or the presence of microbial biofilms.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The main aim is to propose a new method for estimating the Human Development Index using ordered weighted average. To develop this method, ordered weighted geometric average (OWGA), induced OWGA prioritized OWA (POWA) operator are studied. Using Human Development Index formulation in combination to aggregations operators presented above is proposed the prioritized induced ordered weighted geometric average (PIOWGA) operator. A mathematical application is carried out to estimate the Human Development Index and compare it with the traditional method and other existing methods. Finally, it is noted that decision makers have an influence on the order given in the ranking by its attitude and criterion, and method can capture the subjective information prioritized by them.

Abstract:
The coloration of grape berries depends on the anthocyanin synthesis during maturation. The quality of berries is often decreased due to the poor color development when berries are grown under unfavorable environments and/or inadequate internal factors are involved. It has been well-known that the level of ABA at ripening is closely associated with anthocyanin synthesis; thus, the external application of ABA results in the increase of anthocyanin content even in berries grown under favorable conditions. However, the agricultural use of natural ABA is not possible because of high prices. This experiment was conducted to study the potential of STC-4771 as a substitute for ABA. The effect of STC-4771 was studied in `Kyoho', `Pione', and `Delaware' grapes. Chemicals were applied when ≈10% of berries in a cluster were colored. In `Kyoho', anthocyanin synthesis was enhanced at a concentration of 100 mg/L and there was a trend in color enhancement in `Pione', regardless of treatment concentration, between 10 to 40 mg/L. However, no clear effect was found in `Delaware' at 50 to 100 mg/L. In an in vitro experiment, anthocyanin was only increased when an adequate amount of sucrose (0.6 m) was added in the incubation medium under light. Natural ABA effectively increased the anthocyanin content of berry segments even under shading condition through four bagging materials, but no effect was confirmed in STC treatment.

Abstract:
Excavating sponges are one of the main groups of bioeroders in coral reefs. Their diversity has been thoroughly studied in some regions: in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and the Indo-Pacific, including the Mexican Pacific. However, there is a lack of information from the Pacific of Central America, with only a few records from Panama and Costa Rica. This study provides additional distributional records and taxonomic descriptions of species collected between 2011 and 2016 at nine localities along the Pacific coast of El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. A total of fourteen species of excavating sponges from three orders, three families, and five genera are considered valid in this area. Nine are new records for Central America, six are new records for El Salvador, three are new records for Nicaragua and eleven are new records for Costa Rica. The species collected from Panama were already recorded before. The species here described are Cliona amplicavata, Cliona californiana, Cliona euryphylle, Cliona microstrongylata, Cliona aff. mucronata, Cliona pocillopora, Cliona tropicalis, Cliona vermifera, Cliothosa tylostrongylata, Pione cf. carpenteri, Pione mazatlanensis, Thoosa calpulli, Thoosa mismalolli and Siphonodictyon crypticum. We also reviewed the literature related to excavating sponges from Central America, and the taxonomic status of respective species was updated. We provide a faunistic record of 14 excavating sponge species for Central America. Our data are expected to be useful for management and conservation purposes.

Abstract:
The extinction of the Olenellina on Laurentia can be located within centimeters in the C-shale or uppermost Combined Metals Limestone members of the Pioche Formation in eastern Nevada. Olenellid species diversity beneath the extinction boundary is not diminished. One of the richest Laurentian intervals for articulated olenellids is in the 50 centimeters of shale immediately below the extinction boundary at Ruin Wash. Additional morphological information about some of the species comes from a silicified fauna 1.8 m below the extinction boundary at Hidden Valley. The olenellid fauna from the 2-meter interval below the extinction boundary is described. Questions about current generic and subgeneric relationships are discussed. Among general observations, intraspecific variability unrelated to size or taphonomic effects is minimal for most species; at least two species may have been capable of enrollment; and visual surfaces of one species show no evidence of facets. New species include: Olenellus (Olenellus?) fowleri, Olenellus (Paedeumias) chiefensis, Olenellus (Paedeumias) terminatus, Bolbolenellus brevispinus, and Nephrolenellus geniculatus. Olenellus (Olenellus) gilberti Meek and Olenellus (Olenellus) howelli Meek are revised.

Abstract:

Abstract:
A new mechanism of demosponge spicule formation was recognized during taxonomic studies of bioeroding sponges (Porifera: Demospongiae: Clionidae). To date different spicule types have been explained by matching structures to their organic matrix, the axial thread. Bulbous structures, however, do not have an organic counterpart. Immature spicules of Cliona tinctoria and Pione caesia have irregular, rough heads. Higher magnification during scanning electron microscopy shows that silica granules are deposited regionally to form bulbs. Later silica secretion smoothens the bulb surface. Silica deposition in form of granules rather than in layers appears to be a structuring tool in tylostyles.

Abstract:
Free and conjugated abscisic acid (ABA), anthocyanin and sugar concentrations were investigated in the skin of seedless `Pione' grapes (Vitis spp) treated with gibberellic acid (GA) and seeded `Pione' grapes. Seeded fruit were firmer than seedless fruit, until 53 days after full bloom (DAFB). The firmness of seeded fruit decreased dramatically between 43 and 53 DAFB. Anthocyanin concentrations increased in both types of fruit after 53 DAFB, but the concentration in seeded fruit was higher than in seedless fruit. Sugar concentration in the skin was higher in seedless than in seeded fruit prior to 53 DAFB, but at 80 DAFB sugar concentration was higher in the seeded fruit. ABA (free and conjugated forms) concentration in the skin showed a general increase towards harvest (80 DAFB). Skin ABA was higher in seeded than seedless fruit. After cis, trans-ABA (s-ABA) in the skin reached a maximum on 62 or 71 DAFB, its level decreased in both seeded and seedless fruit. The levels of trans, trans-ABA (t-ABA) and conjugated forms in both types of fruit failed to increase or increased only marginally after 62 or 71 DAFB. Free and conjugated ABA in the seed increased with DAFB until harvest. These results suggest that although maturation was promoted initially in the GA-treated seedless fruit, after 53 DAFB it was slowed relative to the seeded fruit. Enhanced maturation during the later stages of development of seeded fruit could be attributed to an increase in ABA concentration in the skin and the seed. These results also demonstrate that s-ABA is not metabolized in the skin to t-ABA and conjugated forms.

Abstract:
Kochaspids are an informal group of ptychopariid trilobites that were both abundant and widespread in the early Middle Cambrian of North America. Based on the reassociation of pygidia and cranidia of some kochaspids, Kochiella Poulsen, 1927, is redefined and Hadrocephalites n. gen. is proposed. Hadrocephalites includes taxa previously assigned by Rasetti and Palmer to Schistometopus Resser, 1938a. Schistometopus is considered nomen dubium. Representatives of Kochiella and Hadrocephalites from the Pioche Shale and Carrara Formation of Nevada are described, including the new species Kochiella rasettii, K. brevaspis, Hadrocephalites lyndonensis, and H. rhytidodes. Other kochaspids previously assigned to Kochaspis Resser, 1935; Eiffelaspis Chang, 1963; Schistometopus; and Kochiella are discussed and some are reassigned. The type specimens of Kochiella augusta (Walcott, 1886); K. crito (Walcott, 1917b); K. chares (Walcott, 1917a); K. mansfieldi Resser, 1939; K. arenosa Resser, 1939; Hadrocephalites carina (Walcott, 1917b), and H. cecinna (Walcott, 1917b) are re-illustrated.
