Abstract:
SARS-CoV-2 pandemic restrictions have deeply altered the common respiratory illnesses burden. The aim of this paper was to clarify how these measures may have influenced bronchiolitis epidemiology, exploring possible explanations. We studied 342 infants hospitalized for bronchiolitis at our center from four different epidemic seasons (October–April 2017–2018, 2018–2019, 2019–2020 and 2020–2021). March–April hospitalization rate, RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) infection, pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission and oxygen therapy administration data were compared among different seasons to outline any changes during the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak. In March–April, 30 (23.1%), 28 (24.6%) and 5 (5.1%) infants were hospitalized for bronchiolitis, respectively, in 2017–2018, 2018–2019 and 2019–2020, with a lower rate in March–April 2020 (p < 0.001). No hospitalizations for bronchiolitis occurred during the epidemic season of 2020–2021. No significant differences in RSV infections, oxygen therapy administration and PICU admissions across seasons were outlined. In conclusion, we report a severe decrease in hospitalizations for bronchiolitis at our center throughout the entire SARS-CoV-2 outbreak rather than only during the lockdown periods. This seems to suggest a pivotal role for the systematic implementation of cost-effective non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) such as compulsory face masks and hand hygiene, which were deployed for the entire pandemic, in reducing the circulation of infectious agents.

Abstract:
AbstractBetween 2002 and 2019, monitoring of Common Tern Sterna hirundo and Little Tern Sternula albifrons along the Sava River near Zagreb, Croatia was conducted. Natura 2000 site “Sava kod Hrušćice” was designated to protect colony at river islands, with estimated population sizes of 100–150 pairs of Common and 20 pairs of the Little Tern. Flooding of the colony caused breeding failure in several years. Common Terns moved to breed on islands in gravel pits with a total population around 150 pairs, while Little Tern did not breed after 2010. In the last few years, terns have not bred at Hrušćica and the only colony inside the Natura 2000 site is situated on a breeding platform at Siromaja gravel pit. Channelling of rivers and hydropower plants are the main threats, changing natural dynamics of water level and causing reduction of gravel sediment in rivers.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Cytopathic, T-cell-tropic feline leukemia viruses (FeLV-T) evolve from FeLV-A in infected animals and demonstrate host cell specificities that are distinct from those of their parent viruses. We recently identified two cellular proteins, FeLIX and Pit1, required for productive infection by these immunodeficiency-inducing FeLV-T variants (M. M. Anderson, A. S. Lauring, C. C. Burns, and J. Overbaugh, Science 287:1828–1830, 2000). FeLV-T is the first example of a naturally occurring type C retrovirus that requires two proteins to gain entry into target cells. FeLIX is an endogenous protein that is highly related to the N-terminal portion of the FeLV envelope protein, which includes the receptor-binding domain. Pit1 is a multiple-transmembrane phosphate transport protein that also functions as a receptor for FeLV-B. The FeLV-B envelope gene is derived by recombination with endogenous FeLV-like sequences, and its product can functionally substitute for FeLIX in facilitating entry through the Pit1 receptor. In the present study, we tested other retrovirus envelope surface units (SUs) with their cognate receptors to determine whether they also could mediate infection by FeLV-T. Cells were engineered to coexpress the transmembrane form of the envelope proteins and their cognate receptors, or SU protein was added as a soluble protein to cells expressing the receptor. Of the FeLV, murine leukemia virus, and gibbon ape leukemia virus envelopes tested, we found that only those with receptor-binding domains derived from endogenous FeLV could render cells permissive for FeLV-T. We also found that there is a strong preference for Pit1 as the transmembrane receptor. Specifically, FeLV-B SUs could efficiently mediate infection of cells expressing the Pit1 receptor but could only inefficiently mediate infection of cells expressing the Pit2 receptor, even though these SUs are able to bind to Pit2. Expression analysis of feline Pit1 and FeLIX suggests that FeLIX is likely the primary determinant of FeLV-T tropism. These results are discussed in terms of current models for retrovirus entry and the interrelationship among FeLV variants that evolve in vivo.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Multisystemic inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a new potentially life-threatening disease that is related to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The aim of this study is to reveal the clinical and laboratory results of MIS-C and the role of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) in its treatment. Clinical, laboratory and radiological characteristics of the patients who were admitted to the pediatric ward and pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) of a tertiary hospital with a diagnosis of MIS-C between April 2020 and March 2021 were included in the study. Forty-one patients were admitted to our hospital with a diagnosis of MIS-C. Twenty-one (51.2%) patients were admitted to the PICU. Six patients needed invasive mechanical ventilation (14.6%), 10 patients (24.4%) TPE and 3 patients (7.3%) needed extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The patients were grouped according to need for PICU admission (Group 1: no need for PICU, Group 2: need for PICU admission). Group 2 had significantly higher levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), ferritin, D-dimer, pro-B type natriuretic peptide (pro BNP) and lactate (p < 0.05). Hyponatremia found to be an independent risk factor for inpatient MIS-C in the PICU. We think that dynamic laboratory trending is beneficial in determining the need for PICU admission and TPE may be effective in critically ill patients.

Abstract:
The present work aims to identify the predictors of hemodynamic failure (HF) developed during pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) stay testing a set of machine learning techniques (MLTs), comparing their ability to predict the outcome of interest. The study involved patients admitted to PICUs between 2010 and 2020. Data were extracted from the Italian Network of Pediatric Intensive Care Units (TIPNet) registry. The algorithms considered were generalized linear model (GLM), recursive partition tree (RPART), random forest (RF), neural networks models, and extreme gradient boosting (XGB). Since the outcome is rare, upsampling and downsampling algorithms have been applied for imbalance control. For each approach, the main performance measures were reported. Among an overall sample of 29,494 subjects, only 399 developed HF during the PICU stay. The median age was about two years, and the male gender was the most prevalent. The XGB algorithm outperformed other MLTs in predicting HF development, with a median ROC measure of 0.780 (IQR 0.770–0.793). PIM 3, age, and base excess were found to be the strongest predictors of outcome. The present work provides insights for the prediction of HF development during PICU stay using machine-learning algorithms.

Abstract:
RationaleSevere acute asthma (SAA) can be fatal, but is often preventable. We previously observed in a retrospective cohort study, a three-fold increase in SAA paediatric intensive care (PICU) admissions between 2003 and 2013 in the Netherlands, with a significant increase during those years of numbers of children without treatment of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS).ObjectivesTo determine whether steroid-naïve children are at higher risk of PICU admission among those hospitalised for SAA. Furthermore, we included the secondary risk factors tobacco smoke exposure, allergic sensitisation, previous admissions and viral infections.MethodsA prospective, nationwide multicentre study of children with SAA (2–18 years) admitted to all Dutch PICUs and four general wards between 2016 and 2018. Potential risk factors for PICU admission were assessed using logistic regression analyses.Measurements and main results110 PICU and 111 general ward patients were included. The proportion of steroid-naïve children did not differ significantly between PICU and ward patients. PICU children were significantly older and more exposed to tobacco smoke, with symptoms >1 week prior to admission. Viral susceptibility was not a significant risk factor for PICU admission.ConclusionsChildren with SAA admitted to a PICU were comparable to those admitted to a general ward with respect to ICS treatment prior to admission. Preventable risk factors for PICU admission were >7 days of symptoms without adjustment of therapy and exposure to tobacco smoke. Physicians who treat children with asthma must be aware of these risk factors.

Abstract:
In this paper, the physicochemical and mechanical properties of Raffia vinifera pith (RVP) are discussed. Microscopic observations have shown that the structure of the RVP is similar to that of a composite consisting of natural fibers. The effective area ratio of Raffia vinifera (RV) fibers was evaluated along the raffia stem using ImageJ software, and it decreases from the periphery to the center. Energy dispersion spectrometer (EDS) analysis shows that RVP is essentially composed of carbon and oxygen. Densities of RVP and its matrix were determined using Archimedes’ principle and law of mixtures, respectively; from the results obtained, they can be considered as one of the lightest materials. Young’s modulus of RVP has been obtained from tensile and bending tests, while that of matrix has been obtained using the law of mixtures during tensile tests. RVP has better specific properties, and the results of the matrix properties show that we can easily select another matrix which has better properties than the case studied during the elaboration of composites.

Abstract:
Transport infrastructure played a key role in the urban growth of São Paulo, determining its urban occupation and its expansion axes. This work starts with a historical foundation that approaches the early history of urban development of São Paulo, with the introduction of railroads and trams in the mid-19th century and early 20th century, and the structuring and intense urban growth of the city with the rise of the automobile and bus transportation mainly from the 1950s and 1960s. This dispute between transportation modes is one of the factors that contributed to the current mobility crisis in the city, and is also a recurring theme in the initiatives of the urban and transportation planning performed from the years 2000 as in the PITU 2020 and PITU 2025 plans. The analysis of these plans aims to restore the importance of the rail system for the joint development of the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, and analyze the relation between land use public policy and transport planning.

In general, monocultures are always related to pests, because they increase the supply of food, benefiting some groups of organisms. The termites are considered a pest of major problem in urban, suburban and rural areas, but this status can only be used for a few species. They occur in tropical and temperate areas, and worldwide there are about 2.800 described species, and about 300 of them are distributed in Brazil in four families: Kalotermitidae, Rhinotermitidae, Termitidae and Serritermitidae. In this context, this study aimed to determine the distribution and diversity of termites in the ecotone cerrado/caatinga of the southern region of the Piaui state, Brazil, in areas of natural vegetation and areas modified by agriculture. The termites were collected actively from November, 2009 to February, 2010, throughout the transects of an area of a hectare in preserved vegetation and soybean monocultures, evaluating the architecture of epigean nests, distribution, volume, food groups, associated fauna, dominance, association with the vegetation and edaphic profile of sampled areas. In the caatting of the south of Piaui, all termites collected in the preserved vegetation area, belong to a single family (Termitidae), and 10 species were identified: Armitermes sp., Constrictotermes cyphergaster Silvestri, Inquilinitermes fur (Silvestri), Inquilinitermes microcerus (Silvestri), Labiotermes longilabius (Silvestri), Nasutitermes sp1., Nasutitemes sp2., Spinitermes sp., Syntermes wheeleri Emerson and Syntermes molestus Burmeister. C. cyphergaster (42%), Nasutitermes sp1. (30%), S. wheeleri (25%) were classified as eudominants based on the total number of nests sampled (n = 57). In the nests of S. wheeleri, it was verified the presence of five orders of arthropods (Araneae, Scorpions, Coleoptera, Orthoptera and Isoptera) associated. Nasutitermes sp1. presented nesting only in the arboreous plants: canela-de-velho (Cenostigma macrophyllum, Caesapinioideae). In the cerrado of the south of Piaui, only two termite species were found in the soybean monoculture areas: Coptotermes sp. and Cornitermes silvestrii Emerson. Coptotermes sp. was found attacking trees of Eucalyptus sp. and C. silvestrii in soybean areas. The present study demonstrates that the termite fauna in this ecotone runs risk of being reduced due to the destruction of its natural habitat after the implementation of monocultures, or of selecting more able species to become pests because of the decrease of its natural enemies and of the introduction of botanical species suitable for their establishment. Key words: Isoptera, termites, monoculture, hypoxerophytic caatinga

Abstract:
This thesis analyzes the eulogistic and ideological rhetoric generated by the commemoration ceremonies recognizing the first anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001. By evaluating these ceremonies generically through a set of established epideictic criteria, a comparison and contrast of form and style in relation to their varying situations and rhetorical constraints was achieved. The intentional introduction of deliberative aspects to epideictic rhetoric was also a focus of this study in an attempt to discern the ideological frameworks employed by the various rhetors responsible for the content of the day's events. By analyzing the tokens and ideographs embedded in the rhetoric of the commemorative speakers, the ideological purposes of the planners and rhetors of the ceremonies were revealed. As a nationally televised, ceremonial event, the 9/11 commemoration failed. The mixed messages contained in the eulogies and the lack of a planned rhetorical strategy resulted in an emotionally engaging but fragmented exercise in public discourse.

Abstract:
A research report submitted to the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, University of the Witwatersrand, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Masters in Engineering
Venetia Mine is the largest diamond mine for the De Beers Group of Companies (DBGC) in South Africa contributing approximately 80% of revenue for the company. The Venetia Kimberlite Cluster (VKC) comprises of 13 pipes and one dyke, of these K01, K02, and K03 are mined productively while the satellite bodies that are intersected during waste stripping and push backs are stockpiled separately. The current open pit operation will come to an end in 2022, whereupon the K01 and K02 ore bodies will be mined from underground. Shaft sinking and development of underground infrastructure is underway, and it is envisaged that the change over from open pit to underground will be effected in 2022. There are two challenges facing the company that may result in a production hiatus in 2019 and 2022. The first challenge relates to failure to open kimberlite ore in the Cut4 south push back by 2019 and the second one is failure to seamlessly change from open pit to underground in 2022 when the open pit reaches its Life of Mine (LoM). The backlog of waste stripping in the Cut4 south and technical challenges faced in the implementation and execution of the Canadian Shaft Sinking method at Venetia Mine have both pointed to periods where there will be less ore mined thus resulting in less carats recovered. In order to cushion for these scenarios, the economic viability of K04 satellite pipe was investigated by conducting a Whittle optimum pit selection of the pipe to mine the ore. This was previously excluded by the current pit design. The strategy for K04 optimum pit selection was based on net present value (NPV), revenue factors, stripping ratios, and the life of the mine. This strategy was employed when analysing 13 pits from scenario 2. The selection process identified pit 9 as an optimum pit. It must be noted that this pit inventory does not add significant numbers of carats to the overall carat profile to lift the valley of despair in 2019 and 2022 but will contribute some NPV of ZAR13.2 million over a period of 6 years. K04 project will contribute 402 thousand carats against 1.5 million carats required to fill the hiatus gap, hence does not support a sound business case for Venetia Mine. It is therefore recommended that DBCM deploy a different strategy to reduce the impact of the carat shortfall in 2019 and 2022. Some recommendations include reducing mining activities in the north of the pit and focus more on accelerating waste stripping in the south in order to expose ore sooner. Cost saving initiatives such as reducing operating costs and postponing some capital projects that are deemed not urgent will go a long way in the reducing the financial impact in 2019 and 2022.
MT 2020

Abstract:
Pity, disgust, fear, cure, and prevention—all are words that Americans have used to make sense of what today we call intellectual disability. Inventing the Feeble Mind explores the history of this disability in the United States from its several identifications over the past 200 years—idiocy, imbecility, feeblemindedness, mental defect, mental deficiency, mental retardation, and most recently intellectual disability. Using institutional records, private correspondence, personal memories, and rare photographs, James Trent argues that the economic vulnerability of intellectually disabled people (and often their families), more than the claims made for their intellectual and social limitations, has shaped meaning, services, and policies in United States history.

Abstract:
AbstractInterstellar Grains (IGs) spread in the Interstellar Medium (ISM) host a multitude of chemical reactions that could lead to the production of interstellar Complex Organic Molecules (iCOMs), relevant in the context of prebiotic chemistry. These IGs are composed of a silicate-based core covered by several layers of amorphous water ice, known as a grain mantle. Molecules from the ISM gas-phase can be adsorbed at the grain surfaces, diffuse and react to give iCOMs and ultimately desorbed back to the gas phase. Thus, the study of the Binding Energy (BE) of these molecules at the water ice grain surface is important to understand the molecular composition of the ISM and its evolution in time. In this paper, we propose to use a recently developed semiempirical quantum approach, named GFN-xTB, and more precisely the GFN2 method, to compute the BE of several molecular species at the crystalline water ice slab model. This method is very cheap in term of computing power and time and was already showed in a previous work to be very accurate with small water clusters. To support our proposition, we decided to use, as a benchmark, the recent work published by some of us in which a crystalline model of proton-ordered water ice (P-ice) was adopted to predict the BEs of 21 molecules relevant in the ISM. The relatively good results obtained confirm GFN2 as the method of choice to model adsorption processes occurring at the icy grains in the ISM. The only notable exception was for the CO molecule, in which both structure and BE are badly predicted by GFN2, a real pity due to the relevance of CO in astrochemistry.

Abstract:
The archaeological intervention at Rua da Vitória 15-17, Cascais, was motivated by an urban rehabilitation project for a buldind located nearby the center of the village. The original bulding foundation date from late 17th century and 18th century, above a series of deposits containing ceramics, fauna, glass and metals as a result of landfill of domestic waste. Between these deposits we registered several small pits used as household waste disposal. The previous occupation in this area corresponds to a minor agricultural production from 15th or 16th century probably a small vineyard field. We report were evidence of the urban expansion of ancient village of Cascais occurred since 16th century, and the development of urban area to open areas of landfill.

Four brief archaeological digging campaigns, taking place from 2017 to 2020, lead to the identification of the old Quelba/Khor Kalba (Sharjah Emirate) fortress remains, on the Oman Gulf coast, where the Portuguese, under the Gaspar Leite command, took in 1624 and they stayed about two decades. The fortress was built with mud walls, only partially laying on stone foundations, with quadrangular shape plan, measuring 50 m each side, and was protected, at least, on the two corners turned to the see, by circular plan towers. Inside the fortification walls we have found living floors made with gypsum and sand, house postholes, ovens, fire places, dirt pits and a well, as diversified artefacts remains, namely ceramics, that we can date between the late 16th and 18th centuries.

Abstract:
Pitting corrosion has been one of main corrosion type of immersed ship hulls, which can bring heavy damage and even accidents to in-service ships, particularly to aged ships. To investigate the effects of pits on the ultimate compressive strength of mild steel plates, a series of non-linear FEM analysis on plates with partial depth corrosion pits are undertaken in the paper, changing the size, intensity and location of pits and the slenderness of plates. It is shown that the eccentricity induced by single side distributed pits has considerable degrading effects on the ultimate compressive capacity of plates. Although the degree of pit corrosion (DOP) does reflect the effect of pits to a large extent, it is not enough to rely on DOP exclusively to represent the extent of damage caused by pits, as “volume effect” should be considered.

The diffraction of multidirectional random surface waves with one or more rectangular submarine pits is investigated theoretically. The incident wave conditions are specified using a discrete form of the Mitsuyasu directional spectrum. The numerical model involves the superposition of regular-wave diffraction solutions based on linearized shallow water theory obtained by a two-dimensional boundary integral approach for water of uniform depth. Numerical results are presented for multi-directional random waves that illustrate the effect of the various wave and pit parameters on the diffraction characteristics of typical single and multiple pit systems.

Abstract:
These days, in-line inspections based on the magnetic flux leakage (MFL) principle are routinely used to detect and size metal loss and mechanical anomalies in operating oil and gas pipelines. One of the characteristics of the MFL technology is that after the inspection, the pipeline wall shows a remanent magnetization. In this work, the influence of the magnetic field on pitting corrosion in pipeline steel is studied. Pitting corrosion experiments have been carried out on samples of an API 5L grade 52 steel under a magnetization level of the same order of magnitude of the remanent magnetization in the pipeline wall after the MFL inspection. The samples were magnetized using rings of the investigated steel. The closed magnetic circuit configuration used in this study survey guaranteed that the samples kept the same magnetization level during the complete duration of the conducted experiments. This experimental setup was used in order to reproduce the conditions observed in MFL-inspected pipelines in which the magnetic field was confined to the pipe wall thickness. Immediately after magnetization, the investigated samples were subjected to pitting by immersing them in a solution with dissolved Cl− and SO42− ions. The pitting experiments were conducted for exposure times of 7 days. Non-magnetized specimens were used as control samples. The depths of the pits induced in the investigated samples were measured using optical microscopy. The maximum pit depth of each sample was recorded and used to conduct extreme value analysis of the pitting process in the magnetized and non-magnetized specimens. The results of this investigation indicate that the magnetic field confined within the pipeline wall has a significant influence on the pitting corrosion process. The statistical assessment of the pitting corrosion data collected during this study shows that the magnetic field reduces the average depth of the pit population. It also reduces the extreme pit depth values that can be predicted from the maximum values observed in the magnetized samples, with respect to the non-magnetized control samples. Scanning electron microscopy observations show that the magnetic field alters the pit morphology by increasing the pit opening (mouth). It is shown that the observed reduction in the pit depth when a magnetic field is confined to the volume of the corroding material can be explained based on the behavior of the paramagnetic corrosion products under the influence of the local magnetic field gradients produced inside and within the immediate vicinity of stable pits.

Abstract:
Aiming to simulate the underground corrosion of pipeline steels in tropic soils, the electrochemical behavior and corrosion morphology of API 5LX65 steel were studied in 0.01molL−1 Na2SO4 solutions with additions of humic (HA) or fulvic (FA) acids extracted from a peat soil. These humic substances have a higher carboxylic and nitrogenated character for HA, and a higher concentration of oxidized groups for FA, as determined by infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopies. The corrosion tests showed that HA and FA enhance the pitting corrosion of the API 5LX65 steel. The observed pits are always associated to the presence of the rounded calcium aluminate inclusions of API 5LX65. Raman spectra of the corrosion products partially covering pits and inclusions suggest the formation of organic Fe compounds. The influence of humic substances on pit nucleation was attributed to passivity breakdown on the interface between Fe and inclusions, by the formation of partially soluble compounds of Fe and humic substances.

Abstract:
Mating flanges of two rotating discs with dissimilar materials were stress analysed by 3D Finite Elements using a contact algorithm to simulate the relative motion between the flanges. All the hardware associated with the flanges (bolts, nuts, bushings and washers) were also modelled. The difference in radial growths of the two flanges, hereby called “slip”, produces high cyclic stresses in the bolt holes leading to Low Cycle Fatigue (LCF) and premature cracking. Design changes were studied where the slip was minimised by changing the thermal and centrifugal response of the mating flanges. In order to substantiate the LCF life of a rotating part, spin pit testing is carried out. In the spin pits available for testing the temperature remains constant while the speed is cycled. So in order to simulate the engine duty cycle which includes thermal stresses, the spin pit test conditions are modified. The procedure adopted in this case is explained in the paper.

Abstract:
Abstract Spent nuclear fuels are stored in dry storage canisters made of austenitic stainless steels. Canisters have a sensitivity to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking since some storage facilities are located in coastal regions, and this environment could have a higher risk for pits and cracks to form on the surface of canisters. Hence, this paper suggests an experimental method of evaluating crack initiation for austenitic stainless steels. Notched bar specimens fabricated using AISI 304 and 304L stainless steels are designed to simulate loads corresponding to welding residual stresses on the surface of canisters. For testing to be conducted in chloride environments, the developed tester for evaluating CISCC is designed such that the notched bar specimens are immersed into the brine of 5% salinity and are loaded by tightening a spring to provide a constant load condition at 50 °C temperature. Also, initial load applied to each notched specimen is verified using finite element analysis as in the same experimental condition. As a result, the areas by pitting corrosion on notches are 1measured using the Image Analyzer program and the stress parameters obtained from the finite element analysis are used to correlate the effect of the pit formation.

Abstract:
The mechanism of disk cracking was investigated and an evaluation method for its failure occurrence rate was developed. It was found that the disk cracking was caused by the corrosion pit growth, the superposition of the multiple vibration modes, and the increase in the scatter of the natural frequency due to the interface condition change after long-term operation. The effects of several uncertainties on the failure occurrence rate were examined and the values of the uncertainties were obtained by solving the inverse problem according to the failure analysis; the examined uncertainties were the standard deviation of the natural frequency and the stimulus ratio. It is recommended to perform the replica inspection by removing the blades and to take the proper maintenance actions based on the remaining life evaluations because relatively small corrosion pits can cause crack initiation. It was found that a continuous cover blade is superior to the conventional tenon-shroud-type grouped blade because the former reduces resonance points in the interference diagram and eliminates any tangential modes which are main contributors for the disk cracking.

Abstract:
Abstract A flow boiling heat transfer experimental investigation on the shell-side of a smooth tube and two enhanced tubes (C-EHT, P-EHT) was performed using R410A as working fluid. The outer surface of the C-EHT tube is covered with special fins having a salient height, and the inner surface has a thread structure with the same distribution density. The outer surface of the P-EHT tube has lots of tiny pits formed by high-strength sandblasting and smooth inner surface. The inlet and outlet vapor quality is 0.2 and 0.8 at a saturation temperature of 279K. The flow boiling experimental results show that the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of C-EHT tube is the largest among the tested tubes. However, for the P-EHT tube, its heat transfer coefficient is lower than that of smooth tube. C-EHT tube with special fins has higher heat transfer area, which can also intensify the interfacial turbulence with increasing fins. The reason why the flow boiling heat transfer coefficient of the P-EHT tube is lower than that of the smooth tube is that the diameter of the pit on P-EHT tube is too small to form the nucleation cites, which results in bubble retention under the condition of low mass flux and deteriorates the flow boiling heat transfer performance.
