Full textInformation, education and communication ( iec) are a medium to make couples practice family planning. The rate of contraceptive use is around 8,5 % in burkina faso. The multi-facetted survey conducted in the kadiogo province was spread over six months. The main findings show the following : - generally, people lack information or are overwhelmed with misleading for family planning information. - reception, bad services provides, shortages of contraceptives and the negative rumours are one of the major causes of interruption of the family planning practice. - there are rumours of the family plannings in all the fifteen neighbour, hoods visited in ouagadougou and their scope is wider in peri-urban and populated urban areas as well. - men are not a target group for female secal workers. 18. 704 women have consulted seven healthy units from 1985 to 1994 : 57,7 % are between 21 and 30 years of age ; 88,5 % have at least one child ; 42,9 % have not attended school and 58,5 % are housewives. - la periode covering 1984 to 1989 was marked by the predominance of "rumours" as a source of family planning information ; and 1990 to 1994 "health workers" are cited as the main information source. This fact leads to the conclusion that in the area of family planning, interpersonnal communictation is more likely to bring about some change in attitudes and even beharious

Full textThe present work discusses the effects of family planning supply and demand on the evolution of contraceptive methods use and contraceptive continuation. The analysis is conducted on the national level where family planning activities still diffused, then on regional level, in Aboisso which as experience a family planning pilot programme supported by UNFPA. On the national level, the evolution of Ivorian fertility policy and family planning activities which is linked were examined thought officials speeches and policy statement. The evolution of family planning demand and contraceptive use were studied using data from Ivorian fertility survey of 1980-1981 and the demography and health survey of years 1994 and 1998-1999. More meticulous study of family planning supply and demand is conducted in Aboisso using data from small scale survey based on quantitative and qualitative approach lead close to the programme beneficiaries and services allowances of family planning from 1998 to 1999, and data collected by the ENSEA and IRD in 1993 and 1995. The complementarily of the family planning supply and demand roles in the progression of the use of contraceptive methods and in the duration of contraceptive use was confirmed in both national and regional level. The effects of programmes are ambivalent since some element like availability, knowledge and economical cost of births regulation methods and services alter quickly in way that is favourable to the increase of the use of contraceptive methods while other elements like non economical costs of births regulation (social, medical and psychological) and services quality do not do so. This means that the major challenges which arise to the family planning programmes lies in quality of services and non economical costs of births regulation

Full textFamily planning, meant as an action that aims at introducing a change in the group behaviour, faces limiting factors as it may benefit from factors that favour its implementation. In morocco, family planning was officially recognized by the royal decree of 1st july 1967, which superseded the law against anticonceptive propaganda. The approach opted for is based on two main attitudes, one that is known as "resistance" and the other as "innovation", in a society admittedly unified, on the whole, by islam, notwithstanding ethnic differences, and governed by the fundamental principles of the islamic religion. On this basis, demand has led to seeking a response to the following issues : - what are the stumbling blocks to a social change, namely the application of contraceptive methods with a view to establishing a new family structure, fairly different from the existing one ? - what are the factors in favour of innovation ? This concept is not used in this context as systematically meaning progress, but rather as the introduction of a new education, a new behaviour so far deliberately ignored, not to say rejected, by the society. The objective of this research is finally not to engage in an academic argumenta- tion on whether we are for or against family planning, it is above all induced by the need to identify and understand the deep-rooted motivations underlying either positions, thus contributing to better apprehend the data of the problem on the field, and end up with pertinent analyses, resulting from a scientific approach, sufficiently elaborated to permit a clear delimitation of the framework and the parameters of an efficient family planning action, with due consideration to its educational corollaries

Full textThis thesis is an anthropological study of family planning in Bamako, Mali. It aims at understanding the behaviours of social actors facing family programs propositions. One of important aspects of our demonstration is the fact that the programs norms are not the only normative referents for the individuals. Among other normative universes which influence their behaviours, some value the reproduction (customs, religion) and the others the infertile sexuality and the research for the sexual pleasure (Globalized sexual models). By analyzing actors' practices, we made the report that, on one side the social actors conjugate all these normative sets in their sexual and reproductive behaviours and that, by other side, they divert the norms of the programs

Full textThis work deals with several demo-economic applications of the method of microsimulations. This method have been first used at the end of the 50's. The first chapter, first of all, describes the main principles of microsimulation, then set out the different types of models based on this method and explain the main advantages offered by it. Then, some existing models are presented in a more detailed way so as to show the logic behing their design. Three applications will be the object of the following chapters. The first one is purely demographic. It covered the development of the families with four generations. Taking the longitudinal approach which allow the use of microsimulation, it aims to measure the influence of the recent and future changes of fertility and mortality, at the level of its intensity as well as at that of its timing, and the evolution of the probability to belong in this sort of family. The second application resumes the longitudinal perspective to describe a double biography of women during their retirement; their family life (presence or not of the spouse, of the children) and the changes in income during this period. The first biography gives a measure of the isolation phenomena as they got older, isolation linked mainly to mortality. The second biography, made possible thanks to microsimulation, gives the financial situation of the persons when they retire. The demography of a firm is the object of the last application. It shows, first of all, how microsimulation can be applied to different human resources management methods and then which are the implications of the use of these defined ways of management on the evolution of the firm

Full textThe present thesis was aimed at studying the factors likely to favor, - or on the contrary, curb - promotion of family planning policies in Nigeria. Current values, beliefs, and norms in Nigerian society, which are undoubtedly dominated by the strong presence of Islam in this country, are examined in relation to their impact on whether family planning is practiced. The main framework underlying the approach taken here is Aizen's (1985) theory of planned behavior (TPB), which offers a behavior-prediction model based on variables relevant to this study. The first section attempts to verity the power of the TPB model to predict the use of family planning (FP). The first four studies conducted in different contexts and on different samples showed that the TPB is able to predict practice of family planning, but only partially, because the results did not always coincide with the conclusions drawn from the model: some variables not foreseen by Aizen (e. G. , subjective norms) were found to have an impact, while others assumed to be important did not have a direct effect (e. G. , perceived control and intention). The second section presents five studies showing that the TPB is sensitive to various sociodemographic variables (gender, place of residency, years of schooling, distance from a health center), in some cases more than in others. Certain sociodemographic variables sometimes turned out to be better predictors than the initial variables of the model. The third section reports three studies aimed at examining the role of social and cultural representations (representations of notions like "child", "procreation", "man", and "woman") on whether or not family planning will be utilized, and also whether taking such representations into account improves the predictive power of the TPB model. The results indicated that these variables do in fact have an impact on family planning in Nigeria

Full textThis thesis addresses the question of innovation in family businesses (FB). We aim to understand and to explain how family influence directs FB innovation strategies. In the first part of the thesis, a comprehensive literature review outlines the current knowledge on innovation in FB and points out limitations of previous researches relative to this question. We document that this relatively new and growing field have not yet come to the point of providing clear-cut conclusions about the effect of family influence on firms’ innovation strategies. Overall, results from this literature show a complex, non-linear and multifactorial relation between family influence and innovation strategies. In addition, findings appear contingent upon the theory used to obtain them. We then document the necessity to use a more holistic approach to capture as a whole the mechanisms underlying the fit between family priorities targeted by the firm and its innovation strategies. We offer to use a configurational approach that meets this need of a multidimensional analysis; and to examine empirically, through a qualitative approach based on case studies, how family influence interacts with innovation strategies and how the family priorities guide FB innovation strategies. We perform two in-depth case studies, collecting data from two multigenerational and innovative family firms that evolve in the same industrial sector. We ran 37 interviews, covering the two CEOs, their sons, members of the top management team, other family members and retired employees. We also exploit secondary data from internal sources such as the family firm historical book, or from external sources like sectorial analyses. The longitudinal analysis of the data help us to retrace firms and family governance trajectories in the long run and how they interact each other’s. In our data analysis, we identify for each firm the family priority or priorities that direct innovation strategies. We then expose how these priorities fit both with the organisational context, and with the external and internal imperatives, so that all these factors combined form a configuration in which the successful innovation strategy occurs. We show that priorities emphasized by the families vary across the two firms and time. We discuss the configurations obtained and, from typology of sustainable FB strategies described by Miller and Le Breton-Miller (2005), we propose a new strategy, the “Innovator-craftsman”, that characterizes the priorities pursued by our two case studies: continuity and command

Full textThe objectives of our study were identified and describe the barriers to family planning; analyze and identify factors associated with non-use by women; and to analyze the attitude of health professionals regarding family planning. A literature search on the topic and a questionnaire survey administered in face-to-face interviews with women of childbearing age and health professionals were conducted. Statistical analyzes were performed using EPI INFO 6 and SAS version 9.4. Logistic regression measured the association between the use and non-use of family planning methods. A total of 314 women and 17 health professionals were interviewed. Access to services, age, and ethnicity were significantly associated with non-use of family planning. Barriers, including spousal opposition, lack of information, lack of qualified staff, limited the use of family planning. The implementation of targeted interventions will need to overcome barriers and be key determinants of women's use of planning services

Full textThis thesis is a collection of three essays in economics of the family, social interactions and retirement planning. It uses coherent estimation strategies to ascertain the influence of friendship and family background on children educational attainment and their academic achievement. It also investigates the mechanisms underlying the interplay between financial literacy and retirement planning. The first chapter studies the role of friendship in explaining teenagers’ subjective beliefs regarding their college participation. More specifically, we wonder whether the fact that a high school student decides, for example, to continue her college studies after graduation, is due to her friends’ beliefs or motivations. For that purpose, we assume that students embedded in a social network à la DeGroot (1974) in which they update their beliefs by repeatedly taking the weighted average of their neighbor’s beliefs and their observable characteristics. Our results confirm the presence of significant peer effects in students’ social learning of 12% an average, but with a strong unobservable individual heterogeneity ranging from 8% to 73%. Our results also show that there is a strong heterogeneity between schools. Since this heterogeneity cannot be approximated by observable characteristics, we suggest that targeted at school level could be more effective. The second chapter investigates grandparents’ involvement in grandchildren education. Three stylized facts motivates this chapter. (i) Seniors are living now progressively longer and healthier lives. (ii) Both parents are increasingly present on the labor market; which may encourage grandparents to replace them, in part or at least, at home. (iii) The rise of working single mothers increases the potential for grandparents to play an important role in the life of their grandchildren. Using panel data from the US National Survey of Families and Households, we first present in this chapter, the non-causal correlation between parental time investment and grandparents’ involvement. Second, since increasing parents’ labour supply in a child school years can reduce their time investments and therefore cause a negative direct effect on child’s outcomes, we investigate whether grandparents’ involvement could reduce this negative effect. More precisely, we analyze the non-causal correlation between grandparents’ involvement and grandchildren academic achievement. Finally, we present a three-generational (grandparentsparents-grandchildren) model in order to estimate the causal effect between grandparents’ involvement and grandchildren academic achievement. Our results show that grandparents (from the mother-side) explains 15% of grandchildren academic achievement. However, good grandparents’ involvement goes hand-in-hand with good retirement planning and financial safety. This leads us to analyze in the third chapter of this thesis the non-causal correlation between financial literacy and retirement planning in the US. Indeed, to meet the challenges of an ageing population, and due to the economic and financial crisis that countries have experienced during the past decades, many countries have started reforming their pension systems. In most of these new pension systems, a substantial part of the risk and responsibility has been shifted from governments, employers and pension funds to individuals and private households (Prast and van Soest, 2016). In the US for instance, employer-provided “defined benefit” plans guaranteeing a given income after retirement have largely been replaced by “defined contribution”, where premiums are fixed but pension income depends on investment returns and individuals have to make their own investment choices. For this purpose, several decision-makers try to find policy instruments that could help people to take good decisions concerning their pension and then maximize their expected utility over their life cycle. On the research side, several papers show in many countries that the first important aspect is financial education among young people and financial literacy among adults (e.g., Lusardi and Mitchell, 2011; Bucher-Koenen and Lusardi, 2011). This chapter therefore analyzes the non-causal correlation between financial literacy and the decision to save for retirement among people aged 50 and over in the US. Our results show that among women, lack of knowledge on inflation, interest rate and risk diversification is a cause of non-retirement planning. However, among men, only lack of knowledge in risk diversification seems to influence their decision to save for retirement. Three mechanisms explain this gender difference: different saving needs, overconfidence among men and an increasing use of services from financial advisors by women.

Full textWhile it was initially born out of the ideals set out first by the Church and then by the Civil Code, family in the 21st century is really the offspring of the unprecedented upheavals that have shaken society as a whole. For centuries, the essential role of family was linked with cross-generational patrimonial and cultural transmission. Nowadays, family must instead facilitate the individual development and self-realization of every single one of its members. The family is an institution that is decreasingly bounded by predetermined norms, forms, and codes, not least because it must align itself to the individual right to a “normal family-life”, to which Article 8 of the European Convention of Human Rights is dedicated. More or less everything is now possible in terms of family make-up. One can now choose one’s legal sex/gender (transgenderism), decide to establish a family, or live alone, without society being particularly affected by any of it. The ties and roles of each individual in the family are no longer perennial, no clearly defined. Scientific progress (through which efficient contraception became available) and the sexual revolution have completely transformed sexuality, romantic relationships, and procreation. There is no longer a single model for the romantic relationship, based on the marriage of a man to a woman. The couple is now homosexual or heterosexual, and individuals may choose whether they want to live together or be faithful. They can also choose if and when to get married, to separate, to be joined in a civil union (pacs), or to simply live under the same rooftop. In other words, conjugality is now pluralistic and rests on the equality both of the individuals constituting the couple, and between different models of romantic relationships. Relationships between parents and children have also been completely changed. Parenting is gradually gaining on kinship. Filiation will soon be forced to reckon with the different procreational recipes. Various assisted reproductive technologies, including artificial insemination, surrogacy, and the artificial uterus must change the ways in which kinship is established since it can no longer simply be deduced from biological ties. The law will have to respond to new social and sociological aspirations, and will sometimes even have to do so under international influence or pressure. It will, in fact, have to find a new equilibrium between individual freedoms, and the institutional dimensions of the family

Full textThis doctoral thesis is about a family company in Reunion in the 19th and 20th century from its birth to 1990. The Isautier family developed their business around the sugar cane industry (sugar cane and rum). In 1918, Alfred Isautier bought the distillery, one of the oldest in the island, from the family, purchased new lands and founded his own business “Etablissements Alfred Isautier”. In the early fifties (1950), his sons started new business strategies owing to the resources of the island, and its recently acquired status of “département”. Later in the seventies, because of the crisis, the company went through a major restructuring based on rum industry. This work demonstrates the importance and influence of the company on the local economic trend and its social consequences. The “Etablissements Isautier” had a great ability in facing the insularity and the international situation, the survival and continuity of the family business issuing from the numerous strategies developed by the company

Full textThe family not being a juridical entity distinct from its members, the family responsability is first of all the responsability of the individual who is in charge of it. Besides, the International Convention relating to the child' s rights describes the extension of the concept of responsability in its article 18, that being the educational responsability. The responsability appears then, not only as an instrument of compensation or of sanction, but also as a counterpart of a dependent, a function. The family assigns to some of its members a real "mission", a family duty. This responsible individual can only be one of the "active" members of the family, one of the parental couple members. As well it is true that if the family is born with the child, it lives by the parents. Therefore, will be considered all hypothesis in which the family is concerned as being responsible or victim of her members. At the stage of the contribution, the family patrimony will support the final payment of the compensation debt, and so will appear as an indirect responsible through the rules of the family contribution. In this way, we passed from a family responsability to a responsability of the family

Full textThe objectif of this work is to discribe the sociological and demographic aspects of the chilean family particulary the underpriviledged social class in the urban as well as the rural areas. In the present work we hope to study the question concerning the model and the type of families wich tend to take shape in the popular circles. Families, an instability wich is almost permanent within the marital rapports then is a tendence towards the expansion of the nuclear family. In addition, the children leave the boarding schools before time, and finally we mark an increase in the member of single mothers. The unpriviledged urban family faces serious problems today wich are due to unemployement. Unemployement also leads to a remarkable increase in the rate of alcoholism, the youth to turn to drugs, and finally for the woman to turn as well children to the prostitution and to begging. . . |

Full textThese works deal with the computation of optimal motions for the humanoid robots. Most of the motion planning methods come from the motion planning of the manipulator robots. They rely on optimization algorithms which need a motion parametrization and a time-discretization of the constraints that define the physical limits of the robot. We show that a time-grid discretization is hazardous for the safety and the integrity of the robot. That is why, we propose a new method for the guaranteed discretization that computes the extrema of the constraints over time-interval that covers the whole motion duration. This method of discretization is time consuming. Thus, we developped a hybrid method that ensures the constraint validity within the same range of time of the state-of-the-art methods. With this method, we created a database of motions to follow a moving target. Consequently, we can generate an optimal motion that fits to the environment. However, there is no method which is fast enough to compute a new motion adapted to a new environment. Thus, we present a re-planning method that produces a new motion from a previous one. To do it, we compute, offline, a feasable sub-set around the motion that respects the constraint validity. The re-planning process consists in finding, in this sub-set, a new motion that is adapted to the new environment. We tested this re-planning method with a kicking motion where the position of the ball changes and we are able to find and adapted motion within 1. 5s of CPU-time

Full textThis thesis focuses on the relationship between fertility and religion. In a demographic approach, thisthesis provides an analysis on the behavior and attitudes of Catholic couples face of family planning. Itproposes to explain how they reconcile their faith with the need for birth control and how they justifytheir dependence or disobedience to the doctrine. Finally, one of our main objectives is to recognizethe procedures by which new attitudes coexist with traditional models. Moreover, given that Mexico isa country that belongs to the set of a traditional cultural context in which its main characteristicsguarantee the prevalence of unequal relations of sex and male domination, it was considered importantto include in our research a gender perspective

Full textThis thesis deals with Artificial Intelligence planning. After introducing the domain and the main algorithms in the classical framework of planning, we present a state of the art of SAT planning. We analyse in detail this approach which allows us to benefit directly from improvements brought regularly to SAT solvers. We propose new encodings integrating a least-commitment strategy postponing as much as possible the scheduling of actions. We then introduce the TSP system which we have implemented to equitably compare the different encodings and we detail the results of numerous experimental tests which show the superiority of our encodings in comparison with the existing ones. We introduce then a state of the art of temporal planning by analysing algorithms and expressiveness of their representation languages. The great majority of these planners do not allow us to solve real problems for which the concurrency of actions is required. We then detail the two original approaches of our TLP-GP system which allow us to solve this type of problem. As with SAT planning, a large part of search work is delegated to a SMT solver. We then propose extensions of the PDDL planning language which allows us to a certain extent to take into account uncertainty, choice, or continuous transitions. We show finally, thanks to an experimental study, that our algorithms allow us to solve real problems requiring numerous concurrent actions

Full textFamily contracts, are in fact a meeting between the family and binding contracts which are not only the pillars of the law as analysed by the attorney CARBONNIER, but actually one between an actor and a means. The actor is the family, an entity that is void of a legal body and possesses a great diversity in its members and pursues interests and aspirations which are its own. The means is the contract, the tool of justice that the family uses in order to accomplish their dreams of freedom and fulfillment. Whatever opinion one might have about the evolution of the modem family, one thing that is certain is that the meeting between contract and family brings to light several major difficulties. On the one hand, the overlapping of bonds: the family bonds and the bonds of the contract. On the other hand, the accumulation of statuses : the status given by the contract and the status given as a spouse or as a parent. In one case and the other, the end result is an inevitable warping of the rules that are applicable. Moreover, this meeting has highlighted the notion of familial behavior which overlaps the behavior that is expected by said contract. Family contracts, be the y in the family or by the family, are contacts under which it is legitimate to expect the parties to continue to behave as a family at aIl stages and for the duration of the contract

Full textThe notion of authority appears as one of pillars of family's law. The bases of the authority in the family have very evolved all long history period. At first, the authority was bound to the quality of man, then at the existence of marriage to be today based on the kinship. This evolution shows the way of an organization of patriarchal's type in which the power was the expression of a juridical authority on the wife and on the children to a familial organization of equalitarian type in the bosom on which the parental responsability takes its origin in the only one kinship. At the end of this evolution, the authority is above all that of parent's. The authority in the family expresses therefore today for the main point via the concept of parental responsability. Two elements render an account to this authority in the family : the legal power and the legal duty. Henceforth, the parental responsability surpasses all the law family and represents in that a new familial reference

In the report « Planing of the lesson », I described the functions of the teaching plan important for the professor and for the pupils. A great part of the report is intended for the teaching methods and the many and various forms of evaluation whose each professor should envisage in advance by planning the lesson. However, there are situations where professor must be ready spontaneously to change the plan eliminating or by introducing some elements when pupils have some difficulties. Based on the exposed theory, I described s the lesson realized in class of the french language.
