Abstract:
This chapter is focused on the most important process in the biosphere, primary production, the turning of carbon dioxide into organic material by higher plants, algae, and cyanobacteria. Photosynthetic microbes account for roughly 50% of global primary production while the other half is by large, terrestrial plants. After reviewing the basic physiology of photosynthesis, the chapter discusses approaches to measuring gross and net primary production and how these processes affect fluxes of oxygen and carbon dioxide into and out of aquatic ecosystems. It then points out that terrestrial plants

Abstract:
Abstract The book describes the current state of the Indian economy, and its heavy dependence upon fossil fuels. It tracks the path that the country needs to follow to reach its stated goal of an energy future that is completely free of dependence upon fossil fuels. It makes the case that this will require not only an intelligent use of Solar and Wind, but also Biomass energy. The transition will not only reduce India’s (and the world’s) current dependence upon fossil fuels but eliminate some of the principle causes of deteriorating public health, by improving air quality and reducing the curr
