Abstract National forest inventories are a primary source of data for national and large area assessments of sustainability and biodiversity and for international forest resource reporting. However, the ability of countries to produce compatible estimates using these data is impeded by the diversity of their national inventory definitions, sampling designs, plot configurations, measured variables, and measurement protocols. In addition, because the differing features of these inventories have historical, commercial, and environmental justification, prospects for standardizing inventories are m

Classifying inventories into different groups based on the importance of each category of material is necessary for inventory management when there are a large number of inventories to be managed. In order to plan and determine effective policies in the management of each material, it is essential that the inventories be properly classified. One of the most popular methods used in classifying inventories is the ABC analysis, which is the classification of inventories based on their actual values. Abstract The Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), in commercial operation since 1996, produces more than 10% of the electricity produced in Romania. Recently, the Romanian Government declared its commitment for completion of a second reactor of the CANDU design, under construction on the Cernavoda site. The annual spent fuel arising from a CANDU reactor is about 100tU. The current policy for spent fuel management as practiced by the plant owner is to store it in the reactor bay for minimum six years and in a dry storage facility for a minimum of 50 years. For geological disposal of spent fuel,

Abstract:
The efficiency and safe performance of a nuclear power plant is often reliant upon a solid understanding of the multiphase flow phenomena that occurs in various components and piping networks throughout the heat transport loops. Depending upon the conditions, various flow regimes can be observed and each of these flow regimes would have a different impact upon the heat transfer and pressure drop of the component or piping that the two-phase mixture is traveling in. Thus, many researchers have performed significant studies to predict flow regime. Over the past several years, the maintenance and

Organic-resin wastes (spent resins) are generated by different purification systems employed in all types of nuclear power reactors during routine and non-routine operations. The quantities of such resin wastes, and their inventories of contaminants vary depend on the operational goals of the individual power plant. Depending on the regulatory target in the particular jurisdiction where the reactor is located, the type and amounts of radionuclides, metals and other chemical contaminants in the resin waste determine the extent of treatment required for interim storage or final disposal of the w

Abstract:
This Inventory 2.0 plan identifies IMD’s planned role in each of the ten inventories, and lays out a framework for ensuring the inventories led by IMD result in scientifically credible information for parks resource management, planning, and operations; and also identifies the means by which studies to collect new inventory data will be identified, prioritized, and implemented. Highlights include: IMD plans to lead three of the ten inventories (Species, Vegetation Community Mapping, and Surficial Geology/Soils Mapping), and contribute to the others in partnership with other programs. Abstract:
The Sonoran Desert Network (SODN) conducted an inventory, classification, and mapping of vegetation communities at Chiricahua National Monument (CHIR) from 2007 to 2011. This report is Volume I of two volumes, summarizing 29 vegetation communities (associations) identified at the monument and providing them within the context of the United States National Vegetation Classification (USNVC), the hierarchical system guiding all National Park Service (NPS) vegetation inventories. Volume II contains the full association descriptions. The project combined existing plot data with new plot-scale and l

In total, seven National Park Service units within the Northern Colorado Plateau Network (NCPN) determined the need to evaluate and map spring and wetland condition based on the presence/absence of perennial obligate and facultative wetland plant species known to occur in the parks. Mapping spring and wetland areas for each park provides a baseline measure of areas sensitive to drying that can be used to monitor change over time. The overall objective of the pr
