Full textIvory Cost economic growth is based on the numerous natural and human resources of agriculture. Among the first world producers of coffee and cocoa, this country is still bound to import a large part of its food consumption, mainly cereals. Several surveys on the fundamental reasons of i. C's food problems have pointed out the socio-economical phenomena specific to the general organisation of food distribution. We have delbierately chosen not to focus on the economical aspects only in order to shwo these phenomena in a spatial frame they help to understand. Considering that i. C. 's territory is the support of an economical activity it shelters, our problematic relies on the following questions: how do the food distirbution systems incite a particular shape of spatial organisation in the areas of the territory and mutually, how does the spatial organisation influence the food distribution in ivory cost? The answers to those questions are in the survey of agricultural economy, of geographical space and of social relations in Ivory Cost

Full textIn order to study the population dynamics of plants-parasitic nematodes associated with bananas (sub-group Cavendish), a new sampling method has been used in relation with the specific growth of the root system. Then, owing to the diversity of soil types in banana-growing areas in the Ivory Coast, multi-local experiments were set up. Faunistic study has allowed to list 21 differents species, in which four are prevalent: Radopholus similis, Helicotylenchus multicinctus, Hoplolaimus pararobustus and Cephalenchus emarginatus. Multivariate analysis of their distribution in relation with some soil variables has shown important differences in nematode trends; R. Similis, contrary to the others species, seems not too affected by these variables. On organic soil H. Multicinctus is predominant, whereas R. Similis remains the main endoparasitic species on mineral soil. Host-parasite relationship with respect to the main nematode species, and the vegetative way of banana propagation, leads to their dissemination through the cortex of the planting material. Study of the emergence of the nematodes from this planting material in hydrophonic culture has shown that, after planting, it is the inoculum brought by the corm, alone or in combination with the one from the soil, which infests rapidly the root system, because each root is produced free of nematodes. On mineral soil, population dynamic of R. Similis results from several factors such as, the phenology of the renovation of the roots, the rainfall and the competition with the others species. On organic soil, in favourable conditions of soil type for H. Multicinctus, rainfall appears as the only factor involved in the population dynamics, contrary to R. Similis for which competition with the other nematodes seems to be the prevalent factor. These results have allowed us to determine new strategies of nematode control in order to optimize the pest management

Full textThe diet of 39 grasshoppers species from the tropical savanna (Located in Ivory Coast) is described thanks to the analysis of feculae contents. For some of them, as well as for the species studied (Humelen and Gillon, 1968), we calculate the breadth and the overlap of the trophic niches. For 7 representative species of the defined strategies, the daily consumption and the Coefficient of Digestive Utilization is measured. A review of literature will assess our knowledge as far as biochemical relations between grasshoppers and plants are concerned. Then, the different technics permitting to visualize osidases after proteins electrophoresis will be presented. The structure of Acridoidea community where diets were studied is described. The relations between spatial and trophic niche will be analyzed. A marking experiment will describe the sedentarity behaviour of Stenocrobylus festivus, a stenophagous species. The defensive strategies of grasshoppers towards their predators will be presented
