Abstract:
This paper presents a review of plasma wave generation in laser-produced plasmas. A general review is given of stimulated scattering phenomena and the use of Thomson scattering techniques to diagnose waves in plasma. Two examples of the application of such methods are given: one is the simultaneous measurement of plasma and ion waves produced by the two-plasmon decay instability, the other the observation of plasma waves generated by stimulated Raman scattering.

AbstractThis paper is an extension of our previous paper (Mašek and Rohlena, 2015), where we applied a transform method for the solution of Vlasov–Maxwell set of equations in a one-dimensional geometry to describe the Raman backscattering of the heating ns laser wave in the external corona of the generated laser plasma in a strongly non-linear regime. The method is stabilized by a simplified Fokker–Planck collision term, which, in turn, is used for a study of the influence of collisional and collisionless damping mechanisms of the daughter electron plasma wave (EPW) on the instability developm

1½ D computer simulations have been performed to illustrate the influence of ion dynamics on stimulated Raman scattering in laser irradiated plasmas. A flat density profile has been used. Backward and forward scatter and heated electron distribution have been studied as a function of ion mass and ion temperature. The results show clearly that the lighter the ions, the more inhibited the Raman scatter and associated fast electron production. Futhermore, when ions are cold enough to allow Brillouin scattering release, Raman scatter, as well as associated suprathermal electrons is even more reduc

Observations of Raman scattered light from inhomogeneous laser-produced plasma have shown characteristics quite different from the simple predictions for the stimulated Raman scattering instability. An alternative explanation in terms of enhanced scattering, produced by bursts of hot electrons arising at the quarter-critical or critical surface, is described. Comparison is made between the predictions of this theory and four experiments.

Stimulated Raman forward scattering (SRFS) of an intense X-mode laser pump in a preformed parabolic plasma density profile is investigated. The laser pump excites a plasma wave and one/two electromagnetic sideband waves. In Raman forward scattering, the growth rate of the parametric instability scales as two-third powers of the pump amplitude and increases linearly with cyclotron frequency.

AbstractA stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) on electron plasma waves in underdense plasmas is of a big concern in laser fusion due to an energy loss and target preheating. Complex features of large Backward-SRS (BRS) in experiments and simulations with laser fusion targets are found. Recently, to reach ultra-high intensities at multi-exawatts and beyond, relevant to high-energy physics, Raman amplification based on BRS was proposed; still, with high sensitivity and a narrow operational window. Firstly, we revisit a standard three-coupled mode model of BRS to show that the condition for an abso

A linear parametric theory of laser light instabilities including decay, stimulated Raman and Brillouin scattering, etc. is currently well developed. However, attention is drawn to a novel laser light instability against parametric excitation of magneto-static fluctuations. In a collisionless plasma regime, magneto-static fields are driven by the ponderomotive electron magnetization current. Generally, two types of magneto-static instabilities exist: magneto-modulational instability and stimulated magneto-static scattering instability. TBC phase transformation after various isothermal heat treatment processes was studied via Xray diffraction (XRD) and Raman Spectroscopy methods. The YSZ-Gd-Yb and 20YSZ TBCs demonstrated superior thermal phase stability as compared with the high and standard purity 8YSZ TBCs, although higher purity also helps delay the tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation. The phase transformation appears to be suppressed by cooling at higher rates. This data presents a qualitative phase stability comparison betwee
