Abstract:
The impact of plasma of an arc plasmatron on plasmochemical modification of a two-layer heat-resistant decorative covering on the protecting foam glass blocks is investigated. The optimum technological parameters of plasma processing of such blocks with a preliminary basis of finely divided glass containers and high-quality glass breakage are determined. It is shown that the texture and quality of a two-layer heat-resistant decorative covering are affected by speed characteristics of the plasma torch. It is established experimentally that when the arc-plasma reflow rate is 5 mm /s, a continuou

AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to present the innovative design of microwave plasma system for modification of detonation nanodiamond particles (DNP) using a special rotating drum placed inside the reactor. Nanodiamond particles manufactured by detonation method reveal the biological activity depending on surface functionalization. Plasmachemical modification of detonation nanodiamond particles gives the possibility of controlling surface of nanodiamonds particles in biological tests. In this paper we would like to compare detonation nanodiamond (the grain sizes from 2 to 5 nm) with modi

Refractory nanoparticles are finding broad application in manufacturing of materials with enhanced physical properties. Production of carbide, nitride, and carbonitride nanopowders in high volumes is possible in the multijet plasmachemical reactor, where temperature and velocity distributions in reaction zone can be controlled by plasma jet collision angle and mixing chamber geometry. A chemical reactor with three Direct Current (DC) arc plasma jets intersecting at one point was applied for titanium carbonitride synthesis from titanium dioxide, propane-butane mixture, and nitrogen. The effect of modification by refractory dispersed compositions on the grain structure and properties of welded aluminium alloys is determined. Aluminium alloys of the Al-Mg-Mn system of chemical composition were studied: 4.8-6.0% magnesium, 0.3-0.5% manganese; 0.45 – 0.90% iron; aluminium - base. The iron content corresponded to the pre-eutectic and post-eutectic compositions of the aluminium-iron system. Titanium carbide (TiC) modifier powders with a dispersion of 1-5 microns obtained by the method of plasmachemical synthesis. The microstructure of the alloys was studied using MIM-8 and Neop

In this article, results are presented of experiments on depositing charged particles, which imitate the levitating dust on the Moon, on stainless steel. Ensembles of particles are created above the surface of laboratory regolith whose composition and particle size distribution imitate the dust that covers the Moon’s surface. Under the action of the gyrotron radiation on regolith, non-linear physical-chemical processes develop (breakdown, chain plasmachemical reactions, and particle scattering by the Coulomb mechanism), which lead to the appearance of a levitating cloud of particles. This paper provides the data on the composition and structure of nanocrystalline particles formed during the plasmachemical synthesis of mechanical mixtures containing TiC, Mo, and Co according to the plasma-induced Ostwald ripeningscheme. The paper was mainly intended to study the structural features and localizations of Mo0.42C0.58 carbide in TiC–Mo and TiC–Mo–Co nanocrystalline «core–shell» structures. As a result of X-ray diffraction and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) studies, it was found that the Mo0.42C0.58 carbide of orthorhombic modification is present in all

Abstract:
Plasmachemical functionalisation offers a versatile route to surface functionalisation, allowing a wide variety of functional groups to be deposited in a substrate independent process. This thesis presents the application of pulsed plasmachemical functionalisation in two areas. Firstly, the construction of covalently tethered DNA or protein arrays is examined, and novel routes are presented based on the introduction of aldehyde and bromine functions onto substrates such as glass, silicon, polystyrene beads and carbon nanotubes. Secondly, the use of plasmachemical layers for the tethering of me
