This research focuses on the fabrication of plastic flexure hinges from diverse plastics such as ABS, PP, HDPE, and LDPE. To enhance hinge efficiency, the recycling ratios are also investigated. The amplification ratio of different recycle ratios and plastic types are measured. The results show that the input and output displacements of all PP, ABS, and HDPE hinges are linear. The presence of recycled plastics has no impact on this basis. The pure PP, ABS, and HDPE flexure hinges achieve the highest amplification ratios of 5.728, 8.249, and 5.668. This research investigates the performance of HDPE plasto sand coarse aggregate concrete using a water-cement (w/c) ratio of 0.60. Four different handmade aggregate types with ratios of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 was utilized to assess the mechanical and durability properties of the concrete. Comprehensive tests, including compressive strength, tensile strength, and durability assessments, were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of HDPE aggregates in concrete. The integration of recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) aggregates offers a sustainable alternative in concrete production. This s

ASTM E1290 previously used the plastic hinge model for the calculation of CTOD, but has changed its CTOD calculation to J-based conversion since 2002. In this study, the ratio of ASTM-CTOD to BS-CTOD was analytically predicted and experimentally evaluated in linepipes. It was demonstrated that the CTOD ratio changed according to CTOD itself, and took a minimum in a CTOD ratio curve. The minimum value of the CTOD ratio was lower than 1 for low yield-to-tensile ratios, but higher than 1 for high yield-to-tensile ratios. The CTOD ratio tends to be higher than 1 for high CTOD caused by plastic ins

Tubesheet structures utilized in heat exchangers have complex perforated portions. For realistic design analysis, axisymmetric models with equivalent solid materials of perforated plate are conventionally adopted to simplify perforated area (figure1). Sec.III Appendix A-8000 (ASME 2004) provides elastic equivalent solid materials for flat tubesheets. Plastic properties were studied by Porowski et al. (1974), Gorden et al. (2002) and so on. Elevated temperature design of tubesheets requires plastic and creep properties in addition. The purpose of this study is to develop a general determination

Abstract:
Micro-alloyed low-carbon linepipe steels offer an advantageous combination of high toughness and a low carbon equivalent (CE or Pcm) for good weldability. The continuing improvements in pipeline steel manufacturing practices have also led to pipeline steels with higher yield to tensile (Y/T) ratios and a corresponding reduction in strain hardening capacity. Potential users of high Y/T ratio pipeline steels are somewhat reluctant to modify their existing specifications. This is because they do not have the required information to judge the performance characteristics of such steels under a wide

The objective of this research project, which is a logical extension of the work performed under Contract PR 202-010, was to generate additional experimental data to quantify the effect of plate thickness on the relationship between Y/T ratio and tolerable defect dimensions. To that end, an experimental program was undertaken on thin walled X70 and X80 linepipe steels in plate form.

The objective of this research project is to generate experimental information with the aim to quantify the conservatism of current interaction rules and to develop more accurate (less conservative) rules for "thin-walled" structures under plastic collapse. The conservatism in current defect interaction rules for ductile materials has been assessed by examining the failure behaviour of 8 mm and 10 mm thick, narrow (width: 100 mm and 120 mm) and wide (width: 427 mm) plate, specimens containing two coplanar or non-coplanar through thickness notches. Abstract:
As the most widely used construction material, concrete is very durable and can provide long service life without extensive maintenance. The strength and durability of concrete are primarily influenced by the initial water-cement ratio value (w/c), and the curing condition during the hardening process also influences its performance. The w/c value is defined as the total mass of free water that can be consumed by hydration divided by the total mass of cement and any additional pozzolanic material such as fly ash, slag, silica fume. Once placed, field concrete pavements are routinely cured with

A pipeline girth weld may contain one single or multiple defects. If discrete multiple notches occur, current codes define by applying proximity rules the defect dimensions to be used in an ECA. The defect interaction rules contained in pipeline specific standards are based on linear elastic fracture mechanics with conservative approximations. Similar solutions for failure by plastic collapse are non-existent. This report describes several advances in the cyclic failure assessment of silt soils with immediate and practical benefit to the geotechnical earthquake engineering profession. First, a database of cyclic loading test data is assembled, evaluated, and used to assess trends in the curvature of the CRR-N (cyclic resistance ratio - the number of equivalent cycles) relationship. This effort culminated in a plasticity index-dependent function which can be used to estimate the exponent b in the power law describing cyclic resistance, and may be used to estimate the cyclic resistance of silt soils a
