This paper examines the basic geometric and physical characteristics of precipitation clouds over the Tibetan Plateau, based on the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Precipitation Radar (PR) data from 1998 to 2015, using the minimum bounding rectangle (MBR) method. The results show that about 60% of the precipitation clouds occur with a scale of approximately 18 km (length) and 15 km (width), and the proportion of precipitation clouds with a length longer than 100 km and a width wider than 90 km is less than 1%. Most of the precipitation cloud exhibits a shape between square and long

The force–extension behavior of individual mitotic newt chromosomes was studied, using micropipette surgery and manipulation, for elongations up to 80 times native length. After elongations up to five times, chromosomes return to their native length. In this regime chromosomes have linear elasticity, requiring ∼1 nN of force to be stretched to two times native length. After more than five times stretching, chromosomes are permanently elongated, with force hysteresis during relaxation. If a chromosome is repeatedly stretched to ∼10 times native length and relaxed, a series of hysteresis loops a

In the process of vegetation restoration for karst desertification management, the lack of scientific and rational intercropping technology and the blind application of large amounts of nitrogen fertilizer have made the soil the main source of atmospheric N2O in this region. How soil N2O emissions vary under different intercropping modes is a scientific question worthy of study. This study took a three-year-old loquat (Eribotrya japonica L.) artificial forest in the karst plateau canyon as the experimental site and designed loquat intercropping with peanut, corn, and sweet potato (Ipomoeabatat

Probiotic bacteria are receiving increased attention due to the potential benefits to their hosts. Plateau yaks have resistance against diseases and stress, which is potentially related to their inner probiotics. To uncover the potential functional genes of yak probiotics, we sequenced the whole genome of Lactobacillus sakei (L. sakei). The results showed that the genome length of L. sakei was 1.99 Mbp, with 1943 protein coding genes (21 rRNA, 65 tRNA, and 1 tmRNA). There were three plasmids found in this bacteria, with 88 protein coding genes. EggNOG annotation uncovered that the L. sakei gen

These findings suggest a common step in receptor-mediated signal transduction leading to exocytosis and transcription and imply that immunosuppressive drugs target specific signal transduction pathways, rather than specific cell types. A Gram-stain-negative, catalase- and oxidase-positive, aerobic, rod-shaped, motile strain (PYC7WT) was isolated from Lake Pengyanco on the Tibetan Plateau. Comparisons based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain PYC7WT belongs to the genus Halomonas , with Halomonas malpeensis YU-PRIM-29T and Halomonas johnsoniae T68687T as its closest neighbours (96.8 and 96.6 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity, respectively), and only 93.1 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to Halomonas elongata ATCC 33173T. The predominant respiratory quinone of strain PYC7WT is Q-9, with Q-8 as a minor component.
