Abstract:
Purpose With trust being an essential component in the sharing economy, this paper aims to understand how trust is established in practice and which relationships between consumer, supplier and platform specific tools and processes serve.   Problem Previous research has acknowledged the importance of trust but solely investigated single trust-building tools. Instead of presenting a trust construct composed of mechanisms describing their interplay between the three parties involved in the sharing economy, previous scholars have focused their research on the specificities of single tools and processes. With the sharing economy as a recent phenomenon, companies have an interest in investigating the implementation of different mechanisms and their effectiveness.   Method and Methodology This paper adopts a qualitative research approach in which content analysis was applied to group tools and processes and link them to one of the six trust streams between consumer, supplier and the platform. Moreover, the research deductively builds on existing literature by using present theory as a foundation and inductively analyses findings based on collected data.   Findings The findings of this paper reveal a broad spectrum of different trust-building tools and processes. Linking these to one of the specific relationship between the three parties in the sharing economy, this paper concludes that companies emphasize on gaining the consuming peer’s trust both towards the platforms and the supplying peers.

Abstract:
Industrial companies that carry on innovation and operation must have well-organized and capable business systems and processes. Customer needs, market demands, global competition and technological changes drive the companies to be more adaptable, flexible and dynamic. By working in network structures as extended enterprises, the companies face new possibilities and new challenges. Design, manufacturing and delivery of high quality products to competitive prices to the customers are essential for industrial companies. Holistic view of the product life cycle from technology development, via product and business system development and realization, to business operation, is important for sustainable industrial companies. A company with engineering and manufacturing of products in a business context needs to have effective innovation of business system and process. Business innovation encompasses the area from business idea to business operation and includes customer demands and solutions. The main part of business innovation is development of the product platform including product and support structures. Product variants are created and realized by various configurations of products and production systems. The thesis is elucidating that business innovation can be carried out by working in a systematic and structured way and by utilizing engineering design theories and methods. The business models, based on a new theory with a new navigation tool for interactions, are describing which activities should be performed in business innovation with product platform development and product structuring. For companies in business with changes, innovations can create new markets and products. Well-managed and innovative companies have good possibilities to be competitive in a tough business environment. The creation of business innovation models has been carried out according to a hermeneutic research method. The research work followed the hermeneutic circle or spiral. The thesis introduces a new dimension to the design area, namely business innovation or engineering, corresponding to business design and development. Business innovation is also a new type of innovation, combining technological, product, process, market and organizational innovations in industrial companies.

Zhao, Rui, and Uzezi Dia. "Digital Service through Sharing Economy to Sustainability : A car sharing case in Suzhou, China." Thesis, Uppsala universitet, Företagsekonomiska institutionen, 2017. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-328090.

Full text
Abstract:
The rapid increase in car ownership has caused rigorous issues for people living in the major cities in China, which is observe from traffic pressure, the inconvenience of city travelling, and air pollution. While the fast development of digital service platforms based on the Internet provides an alternative approach to touch the problems, leading a researchable phenomenon, online car-sharing service in China. This paper strives to explore the impact of car sharing on millennial sustainability attitudes by using the daily service on apps to ‘drive less, share more’. The paper is conducted using mixed research methods in Suzhou, China. Principally, the researchers interviewed ten car- sharing consumers during shared ride. To ensure the creditability and reliability, the paper collected 326 online survey responses from local car-sharing platforms as comparable data. The results show that most millennials agree car-sharing service makes their traffic modes more convenient, and taking shared ride more compared to self-driving has a significant influence on social and environmental issues in cities. Also, some respondents present willingness or already take actions on giving up car ownerships. However, the result also emphasises the fundamental reasons for millennials to participate in car-sharing service, which is personalised service and reasonable price. The paper closes with three outcomes, sharing economy as ‘Development’, digital service as ‘Innovation’, and sustainability as ‘The future’. They not only enrich the current literature research between Millennials and sharing economy, but also promote further strategies for car-sharing companies with empirical data.

Shahid, Shantana. "Setting Up Shop in the Digital Bazaar – Bangladeshi Blue-Collar Service-Providers’ Adoption of a Business Aggregator."

Full text
Abstract:
This essay explores the early experiences of Bangladeshi blue-collar service workers in digitalising their livelihoods. It is a qualitative study that surveys and interviews service-providers in Dhaka who use the business aggregator platform Sheba.xyz, an online service marketplace, and seeks to understand what brought these self-employed micro-entrepreneurs, previously outside the digital economy, to adopt an ICT-enabled solution. The study is guided by Diffusion of Innovations (DOI) theory, one of the historically dominant paradigms in the field of communication for development (C4D). The overarching research question is, “Why did blue-collar service-providers in Dhaka adopt and use a digital business aggregator platform?” The aim is to explore what motivated/discouraged and enabled/hindered innovation adoption among a group of users previously marginalised from digital and financial inclusion. The findings suggest that adoption of Sheba.xyz among service-providers was not driven so much by a desire to digitalise one’s business per se, and as a means of mitigating a previous inability to do so. Rather, the factors that emerge from the qualitative data are other perceived relative advantages of the solution – of increase in customers, income, and opportunity. Survey respondents and interviewees also displayed strong affiliation with, and trust in, the platform provider; an alertness for fair treatment; and a drive to prosper, suggesting that they embraced a comprehensive concept and altered life situation where belonging, respect, and self-fulfilment matters, rather than narrowly adopted a new mobile application.

Abstract:
Customer behavior has always been of interest for business researchers. However, it is just in recent years that there has been an increasing interest in the phenomenon of the sharing economy. It has been suggested that there is an ongoing shift in the traditional way of consuming. The idea behind the sharing economy is that two different parties can make use of their underused assets through an online platform. Previous quantitative research in the area of interest mainly focuses on the motivational factors for participation in the sharing economy; four of the most prominent factors were therefore identified and further investigated. In this thesis, these factors are referred to as drivers and more specifically, the drivers of enjoyment, sustainability, convenience, and financial benefits. Further, previous research gives an indication of a discrepancy between customer attitudes and actions when making a decision in the sharing economy. With this in mind, the purpose of this thesis is to describe customer behavior in the sharing economy. More specifically, this thesis seeks to study the relationship between attitudes and actions of customers in the sharing economy. Taking this into account, the following research question was formulated:   What is the relationship between attitudes and actions of the customers participating in the sharing economy of Rentl AB?   In order to fulfill the purpose of this thesis, the Swedish sharing economy business Rentl was addressed. To answer the research question a quantitative research strategy was followed where a survey was sent out to randomly chosen customers of Rentl and 145 responses were collected. The collected data was statistically analyzed by the use of Paired T-tests and Regression Analyses. Further, the empirical findings regarding the four identified drivers were analyzed in accordance with the theoretical framework. The identified attitude-action gap is therefore analyzed by the application of basic customer decision-making, the theory of Bounded Rationality, the Theory of Reasoned Action & the Theory of Planned Behavior, and finally the Self-Determination Theory.   The authors established that there is a positive relationship between attitudes and actions regarding the extrinsic drivers, convenience and financial benefits. However, it was further established that the intrinsic drivers, enjoyment and sustainability, do not have a significant influence on the actual actions. In other words, a positive attitude toward enjoyment and sustainability as drivers for participation in the sharing economy does not necessarily translate into actions. Thus, the authors identified that there is an attitude-action gap in the sharing economy.     In addition to the theoretical contributions, this research further contributes with practical aspects. More importantly, the sharing business Rentl is provided with a better understanding for the customer behavior in their business. Considering that the findings of this research identify convenience and financial benefits as significant drivers for participation, this can be emphasized in marketing contexts by managers.

Abstract:

Abstract:
During recent years the sharing economy has had an increased impact on the modern business climate, and the level of engagement among researchers has increased. The sharing economy is changing the way individuals perceive business and challenges traditional business models. Sharing economy firms are implementing innovative business approaches to face the dynamic business climate. Its peer-to-peer sharing philosophy is fighting against the increasing hyper-consumption we are facing. Previous scholars have discussed how traditional firms can gain market shares and internationalize through M&As and strategic partnerships. However, the research on how M&As and partnerships can be implemented among sharing economy firms is minimal. Also, the empirical studies regarding this field are inadequate. Accordingly, examining this research gap in practice and gaining a deeper understanding of the subject is highly relevant. This thesis aims to shed light on the motives behind sharing economy firms internationalizing, mainly through mergers and acquisitions or strategic partnerships, involving at least one sharing platform in the process. To accomplish the intentions of this study, a qualitative research approach has been conducted, with a diverse group of respondents from different parts of the world and operating in various areas within the sharing economy. Moreover, the empirical data has been collected through conducting findings from four semi-structured interviews. The outcome of this research implies that the motives for sharing economy firms to internationalize using M&As or strategic partnerships are beneficial regarding the sharing economy characteristics. For instance, the paper highlights how sharing economy firms have a comfortable path internationalizing into foreign markets but can struggle to gain platform user activity in the early stages in new markets. Therefore, are M&As and strategic partnerships strategic tools for sharing economy firms to acquire an already existing customer base or have strategic alliances that can ease cultural barriers and such when entering foreign markets.

Moxstad, Torbjörn, and Julia Pettersson. "Outsourced or Outforced? : A study on multi-sided food delivery platforms in the gig economy: the business actor perspective." Thesis, Uppsala universitet, Företagsekonomiska institutionen, 2020. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-414489.

Full text
Abstract:
The growth of the gig economy has resulted in an increased interest in the relatively new phenomenon of multi-sided digital platforms. Previous research has naturally been focused on one of the key actors on these platforms, namely the gig workers, and how the gig economy has affected the labor market. However, multi-sided platforms entails complex dynamics and relationships between several actors, and the purpose of this study is to investigate what drives a business actor to join a multi-sided platform, what conditions it entails, as well as how it affects their business. To fulfill the purpose, a qualitative research design was conducted, in which semi-structured interviews with seven business actor representatives were included. Through theoretical perspectives on outsourcing, network externalities, and relationship management, this study is able to suggest that to handle the complexity, multi-sided platforms entail a certain degree of standardization that leads to increased transparency in the food delivery industry. In order to access the positive network effects that come from joining the platform, the business actors must adapt to the standardized conditions. Furthermore, they can differentiate to adapt or accept a change towards becoming commodity producers. The study indicates that there is a discrepancy between reality and theory on who outsources to whom when it comes to understanding a multi-sided platform in the gig economy.

Abstract:
The sharing economy has become a widely known phenomena, however, the main focus has always been on sharing between consumers, with firms like Airbnb and Uber at the center of the conversation. There is plenty of material written on the sharing economy in a consumer context, however, there is a glaring gap in current literature when it comes to sharing between businesses. There is a need for an analysis of what drives sharing between businesses, in order to identify potential differences between the consumer and the business environment. This study aims to answer the following research question: Why and to what extent do the factors convenience, financial, sustainable and uncertainty entice or deter management participation in the B2B sharing economy? The factors investigated in the study is derived from current literature. From the literature a conceptual model was developed. To complement the secondary data interviews were held to get a better grasp of sharing in a business context. The results suggests that there is an importance hierarchy in between the factors from most to least important as follows; financial, uncertainty, convenience and sustainability. Finally, the study contributes with a revised conceptual model where data from the results are used to modify the model derived from previous literature. The revised conceptual model can guide business to business sharing platforms when developing marketing strategies for their platforms. In addition, the insights gained from the study can be used when developing a platform or business model by prioritizing the more important factors.

Abstract:
Global warming, increasing greenhouse gases emissions, global pollution, exhaustion of natural resources... Those are all consequences of human activities on the environment. Today's world is facing major environmental challenges and sustainability has become a burning topic during the last decades. In our consumption-focused society, the concept of the sharing economy has emerged as an alternative to existing consumption patterns. Advocating the "use rather than own" principle, this concept has a true potential in terms of changing the way we consume and produce to lead to more sustainable behaviors. Current literature has investigated the motivations influencing the decision to participate in the sharing economy. Three main motivations have been highlighted: economic, social and environmental. Indeed, the sharing economy offers the possibility to save or make money, strengthen social ties and reduce one's ecological impact. Even though the environmental aspect plays a part in the decision-making process, it is unclear whether it is a determining factor or only a secondary concern. Thus, our study aims at developing an in-depth understanding of the motivations that drive people's participation in the sharing economy and the role of environmental sustainability. To fulfill that purpose, we have formulated the following research question: How important is environmental sustainability among the motivations to participate in the peer-to-peer sharing economy? To answer our research question, we conducted a qualitative study. We interviewed six French users of the collaborative carpooling platform Blablacar. Questions about the sharing economy in general and use of this specific platform were asked. These interviews allowed us to understand users' perceptions and attitudes towards the sharing economy and to make the connection with the environmental motivation. Our findings reveal that the environmental motivation exists and is part of the decision- making process. We could note a behavior change as the willingness to use collaborative platforms in the future is increasing. At the same time, a growing environmental consciousness has been expressed. However, the economic motivation still strongly prevails over the environmental and social motivations to engage in sharing activities. This observation leads us to conclude about the uncertain future of the sharing economy as a more sustainable consumption pattern.

This report has focused on how important a buyers eWOM is compared to his/her visual information when sellers decide if they can trust this buyer. A focus company was Airbnb, an online P2P platform where private individuals can rent out their living quarters to other private persons. The method involved sending out online web surveys to approximately 200 students in Högskolan Kristianstad. Results from these surveys suggests that a buyer’s eWOM and visual information had little or no impact upon if a seller decides to trust this buyer or not. The variable that had the most significant impact upon trust and thus the host’s intention to rent was the variable risk propensity.

Abstract:
This thesis is focused on the topic of collaborative strategies, their design and application in the field of business. Collaborative strategy is represented as a series of recommendations for companies (and other organizations) that are considering participation in a shared economy. Collaborative strategy can be also used in company which is already involved in shared economy. This document is based on the analysis of the business models and associated IT platforms which are used by organizations operating in the shared economy. In the thesis are identified key mechanisms and technical resources that enable the businesses to implement a sharing of resources between suppliers and users of these resources. Based on the obtained data were compiled individual strategies, each containing recommendations for the area of ICT, business models, law and summary of business fields in which they can be implemented. The conclusion of thesis contains a procedure for the identification of enterprise resources suitable for use in the shared economy. The final results together with collaborative strategies can be used by companies (and other organizations) to find new business potential, to participate in a shared economy and for innovation of business processes and business models. The benefit of this approach is a new perspective on the collaborative use of corporate resources. Combined with modern technology it helps to increase competitiveness and helps save the resources required for primary processes and also creates new ways to reach customers.

Abstract:
The increased demand for broadband communications has led to the rapid development of the conventional terrestrial and satellite wireless communications systems. One of the main challenges to next generation wireless systems is to deliver high-capacity and cost-efficient solutions to cope with an increasing usage of broadband services and applications. In the recent years, an emerging competitive system has attracted the attention for providing wireless broadband communications and other services based on quasi-stationary aerial platforms operating in the stratosphere known by high altitude platforms (HAPs), and located 17-22 km above the earth surface. This solution has been described by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as "a new and long anticipated technology that can revolutionize the telecommunication industry''. The HAP systems provide important advantages such as low cost, high elevation angles, low propagation delay, easy and incremental deployment, flexibility in operation, broad coverage, broadcast and broadband capability, ability to move around in emergency situations, etc. Therefore, they have been proposed by ITU for the provision of fixed, mobile services and applications, e.g. the third generation (3G) services licensed by ITU and backbone link for terrestrial networks in remote areas. This thesis explores and investigates the wireless communication and techno-economic performance of terrestrial systems and HAPs. An overview of research and development on aerial platforms worldwide is given. Coexistence performance and techniques of heterogeneous systems to provide broadband wireless communications based on Worldwide Interoperability Microwave Access (WiMAX) are investigated. A heterogeneous scenario is developed to examine the coexistence performance of heterogeneous systems. The capacity and deployment aspects of HAPs are analyzed, and further compared with terrestrial Universal Mobile Telecommunications Systems (UMTS) through techno-economic studies including a proposed partnership based business model for HAPs. Performance of wireless sensor network applications via HAPs is also investigated, and shows the high potential of HAPs for large-area and long-endurance surveillance and emergency applications. The thesis shows that communications from the aerial platforms provide the best features of both terrestrial and satellite systems. HAPs can effectively coexist in a heterogeneous radio environment, and are competitive solutions in urban and suburban scenarios in terms of capacity, coverage and business perspective. This makes HAP a viable competitor and complement to conventional terrestrial infrastructures and satellite systems.

Abstract:
The sharing economy is a fast-growing movement where consumers share and exchange underutilised goods and services on digital platforms. Today, these sharing platforms are being dominated by millennials due to their inherent digital mindset and awareness of global issues. As a result of this movement, consumer attitudes and engagement are important to study as it helps us understand, influence and respond to the needs of consumers. To this end, the purpose of this paper is to further explore this concept of the sharing economy and to examine consumer attitudes and engagement towards sharing platforms. The research conducted in this study was exploratory and an abductive approach was used. Qualitative data was collected through five focus groups to understand different attitudes and perspectives in relation to sharing platforms. Results indicated that attitudes are generated differently among millennials due to various demographic and cultural differences. The study contributes with a revised attitude model and provides insights for businesses and entrepreneurs who seek to engage on sharing platforms. This research study provides new insights to the field of the sharing economy as no previous research, to the best of our knowledge, has been conducted on millennials’ attitudes and engagement. For future studies on the topic, we emphasise the importance to choose one or similar platforms and to distinguish the types of millennials so that a more targeted analysis can be conducted.

Nannelli, Martina. "Competitiveness and Sustainability in the Sharing Economy Era. Opportunities and challenges from the Tourism and Hospitality Accommodation Industry." Doctoral thesis, Università degli studi di Trento, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/11572/299831.

Full text
Abstract:
The Sharing Economy is an innovative social, economic and technological paradigm which is shaping worldwide production and consumption patterns of many industries. Its strength relies on factors of competitiveness such as the use of idle capacity, temporary access to resources without transfer of ownership, the flexibility and adaptability of its models, and the participation of a growing number of players allowed by peer-to-peer digital platforms. From the management perspective, the conditions for lasting competitiveness lies on sustainability, the paradigm integrating the supply, demand, and technological dimensions in a holistic, or ecosystem, perspective. Tourism is among the industries making extensive use of sharing digital platforms and experiencing changes that foster the sustainability debate. The PhD Thesis aims to investigate the relationships between competitiveness and sustainability in the tourism and hospitality accommodation industry in the Sharing Economy Era. Its investigation is multifaced and is addressed through three studies adopting a post-modernist perspective that builds on qualitative approaches and strategies for data collection and analysis. The Part I of the Thesis explores the Sharing Economy concept’s evolution and the sustainability issues through an in-depth review of the literature. Results reveal the leading economic-technological evolution of the paradigm over the social one, and its dual links with sustainability in relation to the extensive use of peer-to-peer digital platforms. Therefore, the evolution of the Sharing Economy activities have shown that today competitiveness is built on the interactions of an ever-increasing number of actors and factors, both off-line and on-line, within a complex ecosystem for the creation of – shared – value. The tourism industry strongly challenges this relationship between extended competition and sustainability. The Part II evaluates the competitiveness model and its evolution during the Sharing eTourism Era in the tourism and hospitality accommodation sector introducing an ecosystem perspective for the creation and distribution of shared value. Specifically, it investigates how the non-traditional and informal tourist services have affected the structure of the industry and have altered the competition among the actors, through semi-structured in-depth interviews. Results show that competitiveness is given by the balance among the complex interactions of internal and external ecosystem’s actors and factors. On a micro level this imply that businesses must adopts an ecosystem vision compensating for negative externalities which translate into the adoption of Business Models promoting sustainability for the creation of sustainable shared value. Therefore, the Part III investigates through the use of an illustrative case study how peer-to-peer digital platforms in the tourist accommodation service can boost profitability while strengthening economic, social and environmental sustainability by applying the innovative Business Model for Sustainability. The research sheds light on the complex Sharing Economy literature and lays the theoretical foundations for the implementation of managerial strategies aimed at promoting extended sustainable competition-cooperation.

Abstract:
It is the purpose of the dissertation to explore the extent to which data-rich firms operating two-sided platform-ecosystem business models are able to use data to gain an innovation advantage over established one-sided companies. The dissertation begins with an analysis of business model theory and identifies two viewpoints based on the static and transformational perspectives. The transformational perspective is analysed in more depth and how data is playing a key role in creating an innovation advantage for two-sided platform ecosystem firms. A detailed explanation of how the platform ecosystem model works in provided in addition to a definition of the four platform typologies and how they compare and contrast with the one-sided business model. This is followed by a critique of the resource-based view of strategy and the relevance of dynamic capabilities, the knowledge-based view and the value chain approaches to strategy. A comprehensive innovation audit questionnaire (based on a sample of one hundred companies) is used to test whether the two-sided firms have a data-driven innovation advantage over the one-sided firms or not. The results reveal a clear innovation advantage for the two-sided firms who score consistently higher marks across all the dimensions of the innovation audit survey.

Abstract:
This qualitative study of networks of entrepreneurs in the mobile technology industry in three ecosystems - Kathmandu, Nairobi and London - examines perceptions and attitudes of entrepreneurs related to their networking activities. The focus is on understanding the entrepreneurs' motivations for, and benefits and risks of networking, as well as the overall trends of development of the three ecosystems, which are very different from each other in terms of socioeconomic circumstances. The findings provide new insights into the link between the concept of a community of supportive peers and the acquisition of subjective resources, such as self-efficacy and legitimacy, while also supporting conclusions of earlier empirical and theoretical work linking networks with the acquisition of resources necessary for founding and building a new firm. A comparison of results across the three ecosystems uncovers a strong tendency towards institutional convergence of the three ecosystems based on a model inspired by the Silicon Valley experience. The mechanisms through which this is found to occur are mimesis and storytelling, motivated primarily by learning goals and the pursuit of legitimacy for entrepreneurial action in the mobile technology industry, as well as for the individual ventures. The overall finding emerging from the cases is that, despite significant differences, the three ecosystems are reliant on a shared pool of relevant information and knowledge, via the Internet and through personal and organizational connections. They resemble one another not only in terms of resources sought by entrepreneurs through their networks, but also in the ways entrepreneurs signal their purpose and value to their community, and in the way the describe their environment - through references to other entrepreneurship ecosystems. In the absence of an existing theoretical approach to analyzing convergence of diverse entrepreneurship ecosystems, the study proposes a framework based on DiMaggio and Powell's theory of institutional isomorphism, and integrating the works of Wiewel and Hunter, on legitimacy-building by association through networks, and Djelic, on the process of cross-national transfer, or export, of economic models. The type of isomorphism perceived is termed "aspirational," since it is found to occur in the context of pursuing a specific outcome previously achieved by the application of a particular institutional model. The difference between "aspirational isomorphism" and behaviours described by DiMaggio and Powell lies in the interpretation and adaptation of a model that can then be embedded in a nascent institutional environment (in this case, an entrepreneurial ecosystem). Rather than pure mimesis, aspirational isomorphism is a flexible and creative endeavor.

Abstract:
Digital platforms and tools have already taken over a large part of human daily lives and with the latest pandemic of COVID-19 it is clear how these technological trends have just increased, in both intensity and complexity, across most of the different aspects that comprehend our everyday activities. For instance, people are staying more at home and people now socialize, consume and work with help of different digital tools, which in other words means that the homes’ original role is changing to a more multifaceted and integral function. Based on such reality, this master thesis aims to investigate how property owners of housing rentals in Stockholm could extract value from these mentioned trends and context by incorporating new alternative income streams in their current business models. Moreover, this academic inquiry also intends to investigate the financial effect that these streams incorporation could have on a property valuation in the housing rental sector of Stockholm.  This thesis project follows two different, yet subsequential, lines of research, where the first one is an interview with local industry experts that provided insights in which kind of potential new value streams that property owners could incorporate in their current business models. They also shared information regarding which kind of digital tools are needed nowadays to make the new offering to the tenants in the most effective way within the Stockholm Private Rental Sector context. The industry experts also gave estimations of the cash flows enhancements that these service incorporation could bring to the owner . This information created the foundation that was used to later interview property owners. The property owners gave information of which kind of digital tools they used today, and what their view was about incorporating the new services and contracts that the industry experts had pointed out as possible new income streams. Both sets of interviews were analyzed with help of finding themes and reviewed literature that allowed the authors of this project to move on to evaluate the financial effect on a housing rental property in Stockholm whenever the new cash flows of the filtered income streams were considered.  The thesis has reached the conclusion that an incorporation of provision of services can create value for both the tenant and the property owner, even though specific services that should be incorporated aren't pointed out. The market was, at the time this thesis was written, immature and fast moving, which makes it hard to say which services will be successful in the Swedish market. Despite this are the results pointing out that contracts as home-electricity and insurances are among the services that have the lowest barrier to implement, and have already been tried by some actors in the industry. For those actors that have started an incorporation of provision of services have already noticed new cash-flows streams, even if they today are minor. The second conclusion is that those cash-flows will in the future trigger higher property values as properties will be a more attractive asset to possess. To be able to identify the demand and extract value from it in a successful way is a user-centered approach a key aspect, as the transaction must create new value for all actors involved

Abstract:
The sharing economy, which has been receiving significant attention from research due to its unprecedented growth in the recent past, is being seen as a potential driving force to transform and rethink society’s unsustainable approach to consumption. Especially, the concept of food sharing as part of the sharing economy is being considered as essential for a more sustainable world and thus aims at counteracting the unsustainable consumption behaviour of individuals. Even though the importance of food sharing concepts for society is undisputed, academia lags extensive research of this domain from a consumer perspective.  The aim of this study is to investigate the behavioural intention of consumers to engage and use digital, for profit food sharing platforms in a business to consumer setting to obtain an in-depth understanding of the key determinants by extending the Theory of Planned Behaviour. Additionally, a cross-cultural comparison has been undertaken to acknowledge the international importance of this field.  For the purpose of data collection, an online survey has been conducted. This yielded 4353 responses of which 2995 have been taken into account for the data analysis procedures in SPSS and SmartPLS. The software SmartPLS has been utilized to perform a partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) assessing the measurement as well as structural model including the testing of the proposed hypotheses. Additionally, a multigroup analysis has been performed to investigate behavioural differences between cultures.  The empirical findings show that perceived usefulness and attitude are the strongest predictors of the behavioural intention followed by perceived behavioural control, economic benefit as well as subjective norm. Moreover, the attitude of consumers is strongly driven by sustainable considerations and the perceived trust of consumers towards digital food sharing platforms. Lastly, no statistically significant moderating effect could be identified with regards to culture.

Abstract:
Platforms are the critical players driving the digital economy. My thesis focuses on the platform economy, especially the competitive advantage of platforms. On the one hand, what factors affect the competitive advantage of platforms? How does the platform form the competitive advantage? These questions are related to platform strategy. On the other hand, does the competitive advantage of platforms harm social welfare? This question is related to regulatory issues. The first chapter of my dissertation studies how different aspects of user effects drive value in two-sided markets. We first develop a model of inter-temporal network effects and within-period network effects of users to estimate different aspects of user effects. We then propose a model to estimate the user lifetime value in two-sided markets and examine the effectiveness of the user growth strategy. Finally, we discuss platform heterogeneity and corresponding platform strategies. Using Groupon data, we empirically estimate different aspects of user effects and examine how they vary. We show that the strength of the inter-temporal same-side network effect affects user stickiness, further influencing the persistence of the within-period cross-side network effect. Strong within-period cross-side network effects alone cannot sustain value creation. Our findings remind managers not to overemphasize user growth when the inter-temporal network effects are weak and should instead focus on platform design that increases user stickiness. The second chapter of my dissertation examines the impact of a potential policy of opening a platform's big data to banks on FinTech lending. We show that the policy promotes competition in FinTech lending and the loan price decreases. However, its impact on financial inclusion is unclear. We discuss how the efficiency of the banking system and the value of big data affect the policy outcome. We also consider the equilibrium of a data market where the platform can sell big data to banks. We show that FinTech can best promote financial inclusion in this case, but the loan price is the same as when the platform monopolizes big data. Since financial inclusion is important for entrepreneurship and innovation, the regulator should carefully examine the context in their countries before making a policy choice. The third chapter of my dissertation studies the impact of cross-market acquisitions of giant platforms on start-ups' entry into emerging markets. Our model shows that the acquisition reduces the post-acquisition entry but may increase the pre-acquisition entry. The net effect of the acquisition on the entry is positive when the pre-acquisition gain is greater than the post-acquisition loss. We then discuss three cases in which a giant platform strategically increases its market position in the acquisition. The net effect of the acquisition on start-ups' entry varies in different cases. Our findings indicate that regulators should analyze the specific situation of each acquisition before making a decision to approve an acquisition.

In the era of sharing economy, Airbnb has become a target for many entrepreneurs who want to nudge in the Internet. Therefore, the local analysis of Airbnb’s economic thinking mainly based on cases, the study shows that Airbnb has now become a business model while covering the evolution from the platform to the ecosystem, and promotes new business to meet consumer demand. Short rent Airbnb sharing economic model through the use of making the right to use the separation of items, people can even also be shared through the use of products and services without the ownership of the items. The overproduction is sharing through the Internet platform caused by production activities. The business model of sharing economy represented by Airbnb is imitated by many enterprises. However, the key problem is that there are few people who can comprehend and apply their management skills. Airbnb's management model, resources, talent and other comprehensive utilization can become successful, especially Airbnb has a great deal of autonomy, each playing its own strengths to gather into greater power.

Under the influence of "Fast Fashion", the apparel industry is rapidly bringing forth new products and gradually changing consumers' purchasing motivation from "need" to "want". Due to the increase of fashion trend, the process of planting raw materials is often accompanied by a large amount of water resources consumption and land use and has a considerable negative impact on water resources and soil. In order to stimulate consumers' purchasing desire, the industry has been updating its products more frequently, which has resulted in a large number of discarded clothes. These discarded clothes can often be reused, but under the influence of fast fashion, most of them end up in the disposal stage. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the environmental, economic, and social benefits of clothing sharing platforms. In order to make full use of clothing, this study evaluated the establishment of second-hand clothing rental platform to mitigate the above adverse effects. In this way, consumers can obtain clothes more economically and promote sustainable development of the environment. Based on the data collection and analysis of this study, it is estimated that the consumption pattern of clothing sharing can reduce carbon emission and water resource consumption during clothing manufacturing, and has environmental benefits. Therefore, the assessment result is "good". On the economic front, the sources of profit are rental income and service fees respectively. Combined with income and expenditure, the economic performance of the platform in the initial construction stage is "good". Socially, the platform provides consumers with healthy and safe products, as well as a feedback mechanism that is beneficial to the environment, so it is "good" from the social perspective. Based on the above three levels of ratings, the sustainability of the life cycle of this platform is "good". In order to examine the sustainability of this research platform at all levels, we will use the life cycle sustainability assessment to conduct a complete analysis of the whole life cycle. By analyzing the three levels of influence, this study can also be used as a reference for future research on this topic.

The reward points platform became more and more popular in Taiwan recently and it create business opportunities to many enterprises. Entrepreneurs are anticipating that customers can earn reward points by purchasing product/services, redeeming discounts on product/services. Many industries such as in the retailing industry, the banking industry and in all kinds of channels, the emerging Reward Points Economic become the popular marketing tools to attract the customers. Nowadays, Reward Points Economic cycle creates values more than 5 billion NTD. More than maintaining the Reward Points Program and Customer Relations, the enterprise also cooperates with other Reward Points Program’s supplier. For instance, the interconversion of Reward Points between HAPPY GO and LINE POINTS in 2017, customers decide which Reward Points they can convert to whether one of them. Another example is the interconversion of Reward Points and mileages between HAPPY GO and EVA AIR, customers accumulate mileages which can be converted into HAPPY GO’s Reward Point by purchase the flight ticket. These two examples show that the competitiveness and out-put values of Reward Points Economic can be increased through satisfying customers’ demand with the convertible services. The motivation of this research is to study how does the Reward Points platform apply profit models from Reward Points’ supplier and create benefits to the customers in Taiwan. In addition, how does the platform create win-win situation for the entrepreneurs to apply their Reward Points Program more efficient and develop customers loyalty.

SUMMARY The emerging business models are becoming more and more popular, with the popularity of Internet applications. Such as the 1990's eBay, yahoo-online auction shopping site, followed by 2004 to 2005 the rise of Facebook, Youtube and other community-sharing platform, until 2008 to 2009 the rise of Airbnb and Uber and other shared economic platform. This study observes that early web platforms seem to be mostly praised for their innovation, with little negative news. Nevertheless, in recent years the emerging network platform, such as shared economic platform Airbnb, Uber this type of business model, in addition to innovative elements in its platform, but also derived from many negative criticism. Therefore, this study review the business model, sharing the economy, the platform economy and other related literature, to Uber as the object of analysis, and from consumers perspective, to explore the consumer’s decisive factor to accept the innovative business model. Exploring the elements behind them will affect consumers' willingness to accept innovative business models as an important reference for companies to develop new business models. In this study, the main research method use as the quantitative method, and collect the network questionnaire for the general population of Taiwan as the sample object. A total of valid questionnaires were collected is 162. The study supplemented by SPSS statistical software for validity analysis, reliability analysis and descriptive statistics analysis, and finally the use of EViews statistical software for linear probability model to analyze the sample data. The main results: 1. The people's riding Uber willingness ratio of willing to not willing is about 85.2: 14.8 in Taiwan. In addition, whether the experience of having taken Uber and the frequency of Uber or taxi used would have a significant impact on whether consumers would accept innovative business models. 2. The four key factors that influence the consumer's acceptance of an innovative business model are network effect, customer value proposition, key process, and Externality .

In recent years, the "Sharing Economy" trend has risen. The underlying spirit of the notion is to share or rent to others the idle assets of our own that is unutilized for a more efficient economy state. As such, a plethora of shared services surfaced and the matchmaking of "Supply" and "Demand" has become the topic that many internet based entrepreneurs seek to address. Uber, the subject of this paper, is an accurate representation of a successful and classical case of the sharing economy. This study aims to cross reference methods of "Business model" and "Value creation" for analysis and discussion of further research possibilities that is associate with the emerging "Sharing economy" business model. Due to the "Sharing economy" business model deviating from the traditional methods (from Business-to-Customer towards Consumer-to- Consumer), a new "Platform ecosystem" theory has surfaced. Therefore, this study will also attempt to explore this theory on the case subject for analysis and review. First, this study will underline the applicable theories as literature review, followed by analysis and definition of the relevant theories that has evolved over time. In addition, this paper will illustrate the composition of this study including methodologies, subjects of study and scope with consideration to data collection methods and limitations. Followed by the examination of the case subject on the development and design of the company as it evolves its business model. After which, the study will seek to determine the appropriate theory for deconstruction of the case subject in attempt to explore the company business model and analyze how the subject creates value by matchmaking within the "platform ecosystem" theory. Moreover, based on the review of company business model, value creation and ecosystem platform theory, the study will identify a comparable firm, Airbnb, that exhibits similar business model but varying in management methods for a deeper understanding on how value is created within platform business models. Finally, the case will summarize the case subject's business model and value creation methods as well as provision of plausible directions for future developments on business model for the case subject. This paper seeks to discover the trend of "Sharing economy" and let the new found businesses can create value.

Abstract:
New technologies and innovations have resulted in the emergence of platforms and business models, which take advantage of increasing connectedness through social media and other digital technology in a globalised world. Friend Theory is a start-up, characterised by a platform business model. The Platform aims at revolutionising the way in which people travel, allowing individuals to stay with friends of friends completely free of charge by extracting value of the second-degree social network. The idea resulted from two young international entrepreneurs perception that the travel industry lacked the optimal tool to extract value and enlarge prevalent social network connections to enhance the travel experience. The following case aims to enable students to apply different theoretical concepts to a real-life case to identify the challenges and opportunities of a newly emerged platform business. This case is further designed to demonstrate how the emergence of the platform business model enabled by technological development facilitates small-sized enterprises to capture a share of established markets and grow large fast in today’s rapidly changing environment. Furthermore, strategic challenges start-ups might face and the importance of gaining and sustaining a competitive advantage, given the circumstance of the constant rise of new platforms in the sharing economy, is highlighted.

In the future, there will be many jobs and industries that will be subverted, disappeared, or innovated gradually due to technology. The traditional tourism industry and the transportation industry will face the innovative challenge continually and involve into new industry gradually in front of the people. Like sharing company such as Airbnb and Uber, they are the most classic era products under the sharing economy and emerging trends. And it is undeniable that many industries are unavoidable. Because of the changing technological trends and innovative skills, people's needs are increasingly being pushed by the old system, which is gradually easier or even eliminated, driving the entire world to continue to operate. Owing to the technology and the internet without boarder, it seems that no one can easily stay away the sharing economy that can bring the new world to us. The newly concept gradually integrates into people’s life, and creativity and outdated thinking occupy the pulsing space of the times. Before the sharing economy come, the tourism industry has been transformed from the starting point of the national politics to the travel patterns of people’s need, in addition, to the travel patterns that are the pursuit of freedom and the enjoyment of busy life; Farming, camping, in-depth tourism, non-profit travel, historical sites, downshifting and other types of innovative travel patterns. The emerging tourism industry model has influenced the nature of so-called tourism and the pursuit of quality of life from the playful nature of the representation. However, the sharing economy emphasizes the acquisition of right to use and weaken the right of ownership. Also, the remaining or idle objects are integrated into the technological skills and the internet information platform, in addition, it provides the short-term right of using so that the originally idled objects are no longer ignored. Instead, the idle objects can be used again and make the deep added value. As a result, companies centered on the operation of the sharing economy platform will gradually share the remaining concepts and convert them into how to maximize the use of idle objects, instead of stressing or limiting ownership and remaining items as shared requirements. There are many shared companies that have become a new type of sharing. However, the combination of the sharing economy and the traditional industry are widely applying around the world. It has caused controversy on many levels, changes in consumption patterns and business models, price disputes among industrial competitions, and the impact between traditional industries and emerging industries. The replacement dispute and the collision between the newly-created sharing concept and the existing system have all become storms before the emerging industry matures and stabilizes.

Abstract:
In a global scenario, where volatility and uncertainty are experienced in the markets, associated with the phenomenon of workers’ changing lifestyles, career management and personal goals, the need to create means for companies to be able to respond to all these phenomena is more intense. Thus, in the current conjecture, there is the constant shortage within companies of support from highly skilled personnel, whose adequate resources are not always available or easily accessible. In this scenario, the emerging need for an intermediary who can link available qualified professionals to the companies is discernible. Thus, and in order to demonstrate the relevance of the theme, the realization of a business plan was identified as an appropriate tool to aggregate all information, and to draw conclusions regarding strategies, value proposition and viability.

Abstract:
Technological development represents one of this century's fast-growing industries. Currently, online activity is shifting towards mobile, namely smartphone platforms and applications. Accordingly, businesses and society are using their mobile devices to perform and agile daily activities such as planning agendas, banking, shopping or searching. The present dissertation intends to analyze the Portuguese market feasibility for a beauty and wellbeing booking platform, book4beauty. The business idea consists on a mobile platform to speed up the search, booking, and payment of the prementioned type of services. Hence, users by filtering their desired location, service and price range immediately obtain the available spaces along with the booking and payment option. No other player, in the Portuguese market, is performing the same service as book4beauty does. However, before establishing the business, its feasibility must be studied. Thereby, the beauty market potential as well as the two target groups – service providers and customers - were assessed. To do so, a deductive approach was used. The research applied a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods with the data being gathered from primary and secondary sources. The main findings of the present research suggest that there is market potential in combination with providers and customers´ interest, need and acceptance for a beauty booking platform. Notwithstanding, further research is highly recommended to carefully proceed with the business idea. One option is developing a prototype to perform lunch as a pretest that would assist the demand examination process.

"IT-enabled Monitoring in the Gig Economy." Doctoral diss., 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/2286/R.I.54844.

Full text
Abstract:
abstract: Two-sided online platforms are typically plagued by hidden information (adverse selection) and hidden actions (moral hazard), limiting market efficiency. Under the context of the increasingly popular online labor contracting platforms, this dissertation investigates whether and how IT-enabled monitoring systems can mitigate moral hazard and reshape the labor demand and supply by providing detailed information about workers’ effort. In the first chapter, I propose and demonstrate that monitoring records can substitute for reputation signals such that they attract more qualified inexperienced workers to enter the marketplace. Specifically, only the effort-related reputation information is substituted by monitoring but the capability-related reputation information. In line with this, monitoring can lower the entry barrier for inexperienced workers on platforms. In the second chapter, I investigate if there is home bias for local workers when employers make the hiring decisions. I further show the existence of home bias from employers and it is primarily driven by statistical inference instead of personal “taste”. In the last chapter, I examine if females tend to have a stronger avoidance of monitoring than males. With the combination of the observational data and experimental data, I find that there is a gender difference in avoidance of monitoring and the introduction of the monitoring system increases the gender wage gap due to genders differences in such willingness-to-pay for the avoidance of monitoring. These three studies jointly contribute to the literature on the online platforms, gig economy and agency theory by elucidating the critical role of IT-enabled monitoring.

Focusing on the three parts of value creation, target customers and competition, this dissertation will provide insights in each of the fields in order to identify the business opportunity for the digital platform, where to get together each stakeholder in startups ecosystem (entrepreneurs, investors and service providers). The findings for the question of value are based on interviews and user testing, that made an essential part of the approach of product development. In order to identify the target customers, an internal customer analysis was made and supported by a SWOT and a PEST analysis. The competition was assessed according to the main principles that websites and platform should follow and therefore, four of Startup Guide's current main competitors were chosen and evaluated by a group of target users. The results have shown, that two of the competitors have a well-developed product that is similar to the Startup Guide Platform, however taking this into account, Startup Guide has great potential to improve and outperform its competition.

One of the major difficulties faced by young people nowadays is reaching their first job. This situation occurs not only in Portugal and but also in other European countries and it happens due to different reasons, without existing solutions that are easy to implement or that can decrease the severity of this issue in its entirety. In the digital age where we are currently at, where technological devices are present in most of our daily habits, there are new approaches and tools that allow reaching different results when it comes to social issues, and youth unemployment is not an exception. Over the last few years, there have emerged new platforms and tactics that have helped young people achieving their employment goals. Nevertheless, this unemployment scenario is still a severe reality and new solutions should be explored. The proposed project in this Business Plan is based on an idea that appeared by observing market trends both related to adopted practices by employers and respective talent acquisition teams and to technological trends such as the growth of the mobile games’ segment and the use of gaming elements in other contexts (gamification). In order to understand the possible way to achieve and implement this business idea, this project presents the analysis of the context that surrounds it and there are proposed strategies for this innovative platform to achieve the objectives of the key players in the employment’s process: the unemployed individuals and employers.

This thesis is a Business Plan of a Peer-to-Peer lending platform, Juntta 2.0, designed for Millennium BCP, to understand the economic viability of entering in this market. The similarities between the type of business of Peer-to-Peer and BCP business activities, makes Peer-to-Peer lending platform the best type of crowdfunding platform for BCP. In Portugal, the crowdfunding market is under-exploit, without many players, yet, which creates comparative advantages, as the new product is more competitive, when comparing to traditional ones. At the same time, it allows Millennium to be prepared to face the new and stronger competition on the market. As a new and risky business, it might have some reluctance from the crowd. After all the considerations, the platform is a value added for the bank, due to its positive Net Present Value (NPV), considering a 5 years’ horizon on estimations.

Marcão, Eduardo Abel Pateiro. "Economia de partilha: o caso da plataforma 2WASH." Master's thesis, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/10400.26/28236.

Full text
Abstract:
The 2WASH project is related with the trend of sharing economy, the first time this theme was mentioned was in 1986 when Weitzman referred to it in the volume "The share economy - Conquering stagflation". In this volume, Weitzman found an alternative system of traditional wage payment for a system where companies were encouraged to hire more workers by sharing a fraction of the company's dividends. Nowadays, sharing economy has evolved to the point where anyone can share their goods and services through online platforms. With the acceleration of the market and the need to create a more sustainable economy and a cleaner planet, the sharing economy model is replacing the traditional model of ownership. From a simple trend and becoming an activity, that involves many users around the world. Thus, this project has as main objective to study the feasibility of creating a platform inserted in the sharing economy in Portugal. In order to arrive at an answer about the viability of the project, the current state of the subject "sharing economy" was studied through a literature review based, data from a study about perception the economics of sharing and the platforms of the University of St. Gallen and analyzed the external and internal environment where the platform is inserted. With the help of the analysis of the theme, the data gathered in the focus group and the analysis of the platforms that operate in Europe, it was possible to develop the strategic and financial plan. With the study of the theme and with the planning developed, it is possible to prove and estimate approximate results to reality.

Nunes, Carolina Lopes. "Innovative business plan: online platform that connects the small farmers to consumers." Master's thesis, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/10071/23100.

Abstract:
The objective of this project was to present a business plan for the creation of an online platform that allows consumers to purchase horticultural products, produced through sustainable practices, by local small farmers. A market analysis was made with potential consumers to assess their interest in purchasing these products and, with small farmers, to assess their interest in selling their products through the platform. Finally, an analysis of the competition was also carried out in order to understand if this activity currently presents a sales volume that allows the economic and financial viability of the project. From the analysis carried out, it was possible to conclude that (1) there is a growing demand for vegetables produced through sustainable practices; (2) there is interest in purchasing products produced by small local farmers, as a way to help the local economy; (3) this growing demand is not accompanied by growing sales, since access to these products is not easy. The combination of these 3 conclusions created a business opportunity to start the project. To start this project it will be necessary an initial investment of 31.100€, mainly destined to the creation and development of the online platform. According to the financial analysis of the project, it was possible to conclude that it is economically and financially viable, with an NPV of 9,860,245€, an IRR of 417.34% and a payback period of 2 years.

Abstract:
The incredible growth of Tourism boosted national economy development and shaped the country strategy in the past decade, which was elected in 2018, the best global destination. Inspired by two great areas of interest of mine – Tourism and Hospitality areas – and stimulated by the year I lived abroad, this project was born. The following business plan is entitled YummyTrip, a digital platform - available on desktop and mobile app - conceived to save time and offer convenience and thus, promoting optimal gastronomic experiences. The services provided by the YummyTrip answer to the question “Where to eat” while presenting two alternative solutions: (1) a food delivery service and (2) a referrals and online restaurants reservation system. The business plan has the purpose of analysing the sustainability of the business and structuring a strategic plan for its implementation. It takes account of a literature review focused on Entrepreneurship, E-Business and Tourism, followed by the explanation of the business idea and the brand identity. Furthermore, a key part of the plan conjunction is the strategic chapter, which includes a market and competition analysis, the deliberation of the strengths and weaknesses of the new business and the development of the canvas business model. At last, a financial consideration to confirm the viability of the enterprise.

Death is the only certainty in life. However, the topic is avoided at all costs until the moment we are directly confronted with it. Instead of easiness in a difficult moment, we are faced with an overly dispersed process of looking for a funeral home that will rush through the funeral’s arrangements, often compromising transparency. Most people are not well-prepared; hence everything needs to be decided immediately. Ambar aims to digitally disrupt, empower and connect industry players with its clients, enabling the comparison of at- and pre-need funeral services, providing legal counselling and storing key information in a one-stop platform.

Azcue, Thomas Rodrigo Sande Lemos. "LANA business plan: e-marketplace for service providers." Master's thesis, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/10071/20034.

Full text
Abstract:
In today's digital age there are new approaches and tools to address different social issues, and this market gap is not an exception. Currently, the process of matching supply and demand of these general services is cumbersome for both parties. Despite the existence of tools such as social media, there have been very rare cases of clear success, and no clear solution in the Portuguese market. After an initial and preliminary market analysis, a clear gap was identified between general service providers (e.g. electricians, plumbers, babysitters, house cleaning, etc.) and consumers of those services. Once this gap was identified, a thorough analysis of the situation was done and, from this analysis, the idea to develop a platform that helps link these two groups allowing them to easily access each other was born. The idea behind LANA is of an online platform (mobile app or website) where people can post the services they need provided and suppliers can cater to these needs. Therefore, the proposed project in LANA's Business Plan is an innovative business solution based on the observed market and behavioral trends. The increase in popularity of the sharing and gig economy is a clear opportunity and, aligned with the digital growth that is currently taking place, a differentiating offer can be launched onto the market. The project consists of the development of the marketing and operations components of the business. In the financial analysis, three different scenarios were evaluated in order to evaluate the possible levels of success. The developed model proves the economic viability of the project, indicating it is a project worthy of investment.

Zhaoping, Li. "Business plan for third-party platform of medical service for the elderly." Master's thesis, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10071/22156.

Abstract:
The main purpose of this business plan is to build a third-party platform to help the elderly patients, especially those who live in rural areas, monitor their health situation by using intelligent Smart Watches. On the one hand, if they would like to go to a large 3A hospital in a big city, far from their hometown, for further treatment or surgery, we will help them to find the best suitable hospitals and doctors scientifically. On the other hand, we will integrate some medicines industry chains by cutting out the middlemen to decrease the price of some particular medicines through group-buying for our patients, which will make medical market more efficient. With the rise of third-party medical services, the business model of our business plan to solve healthy problems for the elderly has also begun to rise. Before drawing up a business plan for the third-party medical service platform, medical platform staff and specific service population are surveyed, and the results are analyzed. At the same time, the research methods including questionnaire and observation methods are introduced for obtaining some original data. After analyzing the data, we found what kind of problems the elderly and their families face now and what kind of services they need exactly. Finally, we will make a financial plan for five years to help us to predict the profit , working Capital and Cash Requirements.

The objective of this master project is to develop a business plan for an innovative fashion service. Over one-third of the global population own a smartphone. Statistics reveal that more than 90% of the time spent by smartphone users on their devices, is consumed within Apps. Nevertheless, millions of local stores around the world do not benefit from this opportunity. Clothie wants to unlock the market for those fashion retailers that are struggling to stay in business, by offering a tool capable of creating a potentially unlimited client base. Besides, its entertaining approach to the fashion world is expected to generate unprecedented value for the ones eager to find new apparel products. Shaping its strategy around the concept of ‘Lean Startup’, the team will develop the platform in light of the feedback received from the customers, creating authentic value while saving time and resources. Joining the fast-growing Portuguese economy will facilitate the customer development process, granting the opportunity to introduce Clothie to an increasing audience of tourists keen to shop locally. Thanks to its unique value curve, Clothie is able to stand out from the competition and create a ‘Blue Ocean’ - becoming the first ever 'location-based fashion shopping app' to be released on the market. The astonishing potentialities of the project are evidenced by the financial forecasts generated, which outline the scalability of the business and the exceptional value Clothie can provide to its shareholders.
