Erotylidae, or pleasing fungus beetles, are a morphologically diverse lineage of Coleoptera notable for the variety of colors and patterns present on their dorsal surface. This study begins the characterization of this diversity and discusses patterns around coloration within Erotylinae. Using spectrophotometer data, we investigated the frequency of certain color motifs across erotyline tribes and discuss geographic patterns in these color motifs. The most frequently observed colors within Erotylinae are brown/black with orange/red maculations in the case of bicolored taxa. In terms of type of

Representatives of the family are beetles with often orange or metallic body color and from 2 to 7 mm in size. All members of the family are mycophagous and are related in their development to basidiomycetes. Abstract Erotylidae (Cucujoidea) are currently divided into six subfamilies, which are regarded as monophyletic. However, there are doubts on the monophyly of lower ranked taxa within Erotylidae, including its most diverse tribe (Tritomini) and the highly diverse genus Mycotretus (Tritomini). The next steps in phylogenetic studies on these taxa rely on better sampling and on studies of unexplored character sets. Here, we conduct a comparative morphological study of the metendosternite and the penile flagellum within Erotylidae, with emphasis on Tritomini and Mycotretus, establishing a naming s
