Lexical, grammatical and stylistic pleonasms in contemporary English-language media discourse are analyzed in the article. The definition of pleonasms, especially their types is offered. It is outlined the peculiar features of their usage in contemporary English-language media discourse. It has been proved that the redundancy in lexical pleonasms is expressed by synonyms. It is substantiated that grammatical pleonasms arise due to suffixes, prefixes and adverbs when creating degrees of comparison of adjectives. Pleonasms in contemporary English-language media discourse are used to intensify the utterance and to influence pragmatically on the addressee. Pleonasm is an independent expressive means of language. As a permanent feature of a linguistic unit, it differs not only from the stylistic means of expressing redundancy in speech, but also from grammatical types of redundancy. The autonomy of pleonasms in a language is justified by their purpose to clarify, intensify and add different shades of the meaning of a word or any concept in order to accurately convey information to the addressee. These redundant phrases are understood as absolutely natural phenomenon in English. One of the reasons for the creation of pleonasms is insufficient transparency of one of the components and this component the word of foreign origin. Pleonasm is the result of rather complex processes of semantic development of components that are combined.

Introduction. The article is devoted to the classification of pleonastic units in the Uzbek language, which, first of all, provides a detailed explanation of the concept of pleonasm. In addition to dwelling on the etymology of this concept, the different views expressed by ancient linguists on the phenomenon of pleonasm are also included in this article. Research methods. This work is mainly led by the methods of description, classification, synchronous analysis and comparison. Including, in this study, pleonasms are classified according to the following aspects: - depending on the type of repeated units; - depending on the composition and origin; - by structure.

The study entitles Ineffectiveness of Sentences in Rosi’s Talk Show for episode of Lies Politics and Sontoloyo Politician on Kompas TV has two research focuses, the first focus is to discuss ineffective sentence that are limited to the form of unity and efficiency. The second focus is concerning to the causes of the ineffectiveness on sentences which are limited to contaminant factors, pleonasms and cognitive errors. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive method because the researcher thoroughly describes ineffective sentences forms and cause factors on ineffectiveness sentences. The object selected in the study is the Rosi’s Talk Show in Politics of Lies and Sontoloyo Politicians’ Episode on Kompas TV. The researcher takes the research data in ineffective sentences through transcripts of conversations between speakers and host. The result of study shows that in Rosi’s Talk Show in Politics of Lies and Sontoloyo Politicians’ Episode in Kompas TV found ineffective sentences in the form unity and effeciency. Unity is shown by the data with no subject and predicates. Effeciency sentences are indicated by finding data of sentences with double subjects. Based on the cause factors of ineffectiveness sentences, it was found a sentence containing contamination, pleonasms, and cognitive errors. The contamination in the sentence is indicated by the data finding of a sentence that has an irregular and chaotic structure. The pleonasm in a sentence is indicated by the data finding of a sentence with excessive words. The cognitive errors in sentences are indicated by finding data of sentences that do not show a logical meaning relationship.

Artikel ini membahas gaya bahasa yang terdapat dalam novel “Ayat-Ayat Cinta” karya Habiburraman El Shirazy dan implementasinya dalam pengajaran sastra di MTs. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan metode studi kasus dan kajian pustaka . Metode ini untuk menganalisis penggunaan sistem tanda yang mengandung ide, gagasan dan nilai estetis tertentu, sekaligus untuk memahami makna yang dikandungnya. Data penelitian ini berupa penggalan gaya bahasa dalam novel “Ayat-Ayat Cinta” yang diduga berisi kalimat-kalimat bergaya bahasa tertentu. Dari hasil penelitian ini ditemukan jenis-jenis gaya bahasa dalam novel “Ayat-Ayat Cinta” meliputi gaya bahasa klimaks, antiklimaks, paralelisme, antitesis, repetisi, hiperbola, silepsis, aliterasi, litotes, asonansi, eufemisme, pleonasme, paradoks, retoris, personifikasi, ironi, sarkasme, metafora, perumpamaan/ simile, dan metonimia. Gaya bahasa yang dominan dalam novel “Ayat-Ayat Cinta”, yaitu gaya bahasa hiperbola. Implikasi gaya bahasa dalam novel “Ayat-Ayat Cinta” terhadap pengajaran sastra di MTs menitikberatkan pada sumber bahan ajar. The study was conducted using the case study method and literature review. This method is to analyze the use of sign systems that contain ideas, ideas and certain aesthetic values, as well as to understand the meaning they contain.
