Particulate matter (PM-3.9 and PM-15.8) samples were collected in the three zones at the Northeast, Southwest and Southeast suburbs of Mexico City, from July to August 1998, for one week for each sampling site. The concentrations of several elements in the PM-3.9 and PM-15.8 samples were determined by Particle Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE). In the PM-3.9 samples, 21 elements were determined for each zone, and Na , Mg , Al , Si , S , K , Ca , Ti , Fe , Cu , Zn and Pb are found to be the major elemental components. On the other hand, 22 elements including P were determined on the PM-15.8 samples

Atmospheric particulate matter (PM) plays an important role in the distribution of elements in the environment. The PM-bound elements penetrates into the other elements of the environment, in two basic forms - those dissolved in the atmospheric precipitation and those permanently bound to PM particles. Those forms differs greatly in their mobility, thus posing a potential threat to living organisms. They can also be an immediate threat, while being inhaled. Abstract:
The PM steel industry is heading for radical changes, especially concerning the mobility sector. This is accompanied by challenges: New markets for the PM industry should be acquired, and with that, improved materials are mandatory for the future. On the other hand, well established alloying elements such as Cu and Ni undergo critical price fluctuations and are increasingly considered as strategic materials. Alloying elements well known in ingot metallurgy, such as Cr, Mn and Si, are attractive in their effects but limited in PM applications due to their high O affinity. The masteralloy (MA) r

The use of recyclable, non-toxic and non-critical alloying elements has become increasingly important in the last years. In particular, the volatile prices of Ni and Cu, and the increasing demand for these elements from the electromobility sector can eventually boost the prices, eliminating the price-competitiveness advantage of PM-steels. This work shows the newest advances in the investigation of PM-steels produced from more sustainable base powder alternatives (such as AstCrS), combined with Fe-Mn-Si-based masteralloys (i.e. a hybrid-alloy approach). It is pertinent to note that the applications of adaptive optics (AO) for implementation of the total potential of such a high-power telescope as AST-10 imposes heavy demands on the quality of production, adjustment and phasing of a primary mirror (PM). The atmospheric turbulence was a controlling factor of the image quality for previous generations of telescopes.

With the continuous development of the nuclear power technology in the world, all countries in the world are becoming more and more interested in the inherent safety of nuclear power technology, while the research and development of the spherical bed type high temperature gas cooled reactor nuclear power technology in China has formally catered to this demand. As a major national science and technology project, since the construction of the high temperature gas cooled reactor demonstration project (HTR-PM) since 2012, the civil construction of the nuclear island has been basically completed, t

This paper mainly deals with the simulations of graphite matrix of the spherical fuel elements by steam in normal operating conditions. The fuel element matrix graphite was firstly simplified to an annular part in the simulations. Then the corrosions to the matrix graphite in 10 MW High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTR-10) and the High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor—–Pebble-bed Module (HTR-PM) were investigated respectively. The results showed that the gasification of fuel element matrix graphite was uniform and mainly occurred at the bottom of the core in both of the reactors in the mean r

The principal accomplishment of the research supported by BARD was progress toward a comprehensive view of cell-surface electrical effects (both in cell walls [CWs] and at plasma membrane [PM] surfaces) upon ion uptake, intoxication, and amelioration. The research confirmed that electrostatic models (e.g., Gouy-Chapman-Stern [G-C-S]), with parameter values contributed by us, successfully predict ion behavior at cell surfaces. Specific research objectives 1. To characterize the sorption of selected heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd) to the root PM in the presence of other cations and organic ligands

Protection systems in Central-Eastern Europe (CEE) are different from the Dutch system. They are older and initially, i.e., pre-World War II, were built to counter the threat of politically motivated violence. Post-1989, it changed to threats from organised crime, and since the 2010s, it is changing again towards countering politically motivated acts. Each of the three systems had its own turning points – be it 2010/2018 or 2024. These energised the systems and spurred them into action, but often this is happening in a “we should have seen it coming” fashion. The most obvious case of this is S
