Abstract:
Wallace's Line demarcates the transition between the differentiated regional faunas of Asia and Australia. However, while patterns of biotic differentiation across these two continental landmasses and the intervening island groups (Wallacea) have been extensively studied, patterns of long-term dispersal and diversification across this region are less well understood. Frogmouths (Aves: Podargidae) are a relictual family of large nocturnal birds represented by three extant genera occurring, respectively, in Asia, ‘Sahul’ (Australia and New Guinea) and the Solomon Islands, thus spanning Wallace's

Two new species of the feather mite genus Pandalura Hull, 1934 (Psoroptoididae: Pandalurinae) are described for the first time from birds of the order Caprimulgiformes: Pandalura oconnori sp. n. from Steatornis caripensis Humboldt, 1817 (Steatornithidae), and Pandalura podargi sp. nov. from Podargus strigoides (Latham, 1802) (Podargidae). Two previously described species of this genus from owls (Strigiformes: Strigidae) are redescribed based on materials from corresponding type hosts: P. strigisoti (Buchholz, 1869) from Asio otus (Linnaeus, 1758), and P. cirrata (Muller, 1860) comb nov. from B

Abstract:
Phylogenetic nomenclature, a system of taxonomic nomenclature in which taxon names are defined based on phylogenetic relationships, has been widely adopted in recent decades, particularly by vertebrate palaeontologists. However, formal regulation of this taxonomic system had been non-existent until the recent implementation of the <i>International Code of Phylogenetic Nomenclature </i> (<i>PhyloCode</i>). To fulfil the requirements of the <i>PhyloCode</i>, we explicitly establish phylogenetic definitions that we recommended in a recent phylogenetic study on the avian taxon <i>Caprimulgimorphae
