Eastern part of Poland is unevenly examined according to distribution of terrestrial true-bugs. Among well studied zoogeographical regions (Wyżyna Lubelska, Beskid Wschodni, Roztocze), true-bugs fauna of others like Podlasie and Nizina Sandomierska is poorly documented. In Leśna Podlaska, the image of Mother of God has been an object of worship since 1683. In 1727, the Leśna parish was taken over by monks from the Pauline Order. In 1875, on the basis of Tsar Alexander II's decree, the church in Leśna Podlaska, together with the venerated image, the great altar, and votive offerings, were handed over to the Eastern Orthodox Church. Na mocy testamentu Zygmunta Augusta jego siostra Anna Jagiellonka odziedziczyła w 1572 r. rozległe dobra ziemskie na Podlasiu, jak również ruchomości po zmarłym bracie, zdeponowane w podlaskim Tykocinie. Od początku bezkrólewia musiała się jednak zmagać z niechęcią polsko-litewskich elit do wyegzekwowania zapisu na jej korzyść. Ostatecznie przed swoją koronacją w 1576 r. zrzekła się spadku w zamian za obiecaną jej przez męża Stefana Batorego rekompensatę. Ta przyznana jej została dopiero w latach 1580–1581, choć dochody z części dóbr spadkowych otrzymała już w latach 1574–1575.

The article presents motifs of Podlasie and Białystok in the early collections of writings by Joanna Siedlecka, which had been published first in her debut Stypa (1981) and later also in Poprawiny and Parszywa sytuacja (both 1984). The article concludes that Siedlecka does not rely on clichéd storylines in her writings about Podlasie. She also avoids ideological rhetoric and with irony punctuates the absurdity of everyday life in Communism.

The article presents research on the loyalty of the nobility of Podlasie in the context of their attitude to tax liabilities to the state. The tax inventory for Podlasie from 1570 and the register of oaths for allegiance to Zygmunt August from 1569 were analysed. Comparison of these documents, using the prosopo-graphic and statistical methods, made it possible to estimate the number of representatives who did not pay taxes and took an oath, and to provide apre-liminary explanation of the determinants of this insubordination.
