Abstract:
Nazire; It is a poet’s rewriting of another poet’s poem by using elements such as measure, rhyme, and content. The artist has the opportunity to show himself better by improving himself in the production process, which he starts by imitating. For this reason, nazireism played an important role in the upbringing, self-development and mastery of poets. The first reflections of the Nazire tradition were seen in classical literature, and then nazire was also used by folk literature poets. Nazires provided intercultural interaction by being written on works written in different languages as well as on works written in the same language. In this study; it is aimed to reveal the reflections of the nazire tradition, which is one of the most important elements of the relationship between classical literature and folk literature. In this direction, some related examples of nazires in classical and folk literature have been identified. Admiration and imitation were influential on the basis of folk poets writing nazires for classical poets. The nazires written by folk poets to classical poets are an example that increases the common points of the two literatures. It is known that folk poets wrote nazires to each other, except for the nazires written by poets of classical literature. It has been seen that the poems written by the folk poets in nazire are also the works that are admired and arranged in the classical poetry tradition.

Abstract:
Those who wrote about and introduced Heinrich Heine into Albanian literature and culture are the following distinguished Albanian intellectuals, researches and scholars: Javer Malo, Nexhip Gami, Vehbi Bala, Perikli Jorgoni, Pertef Kruja, Robert Shvarc, Petraq Kolevica, etc. However, no all-embracing articles or papers in English or German were written about Heinrich Heine’s presence, popularity and influence on Albanian literature. Therefore, through qualitative and comparative literature methods this article attempts to illuminate the presence, popularity and impact of Heine’s poetry on the poems of some of the most popular Albanian writers and poets, such as: Çajupi, Konica, Noli and Poradeci by focusing on the main similarities and differences of Heine’s poems with those of the aforementioned Albanian poets. The paper demonstrates and proves that it is beyond doubt that the poems of the aforesaid Albanian poets share strange and interesting similarities and a kind of concordance with the topics, motifs, messages and style of Heine’s poems and that he influenced those poets in different ways and to various degrees. The themes and motifs of politics, patriotism, social injustice, longing for motherland, freedom, brotherhood, nature, enthusiasm, love, hate, pain, sadness, disbelief, tradition, anticipation of future, dreams, etc. best connect the poems of Albanian poets to Heine’s.

Abstract:
In the dynasty of the Ottoman sultans (1299–1922), there was a great interest in the personality and heritage of the poet Alisher Navai (1441-1501). This interest, which arose during the poet’s lifetime, still exists today. The article highlights the imitation and follow-up of Ottoman poets to Navai’s poems. We are talking about the influence of Uzbek classical literature and especially the heritage of the Navai on the literature of the Ottoman dynasty. Ottoman poets imitated Nawai’s Hamsa poems and, as a result, created their own versions of the Nawai poems. They wrote poetry in Ottoman and Persian. In addition, they created poems in the Old Uzbek (Turkic) language. At the same time, imitation of the creativity of the heritage of Alisher Nawai played a big role.

Abstract:
Many works of the eastern poets were devoted to love theme. The most spread “Leyla and Majnun” is a love story originated in Arabic, later significantly expanded to Persian and got its fictional peak in Turkic literature. Poets frequently wrote on this theme. The actual reason is “nazira, nazirashylyk” tradition which is the source of love tradition. Poets wrote their poem lines in Arabic aruz style. That nazira tradition took its continuation in Kazakh steppes in the end of XIX century and in the beginning of the XX century but not exactly in its poem style . It is obvious from the Kazakh writers’ works that the object of written literature was love poems and were written in rhymes. Love poems did not leave the Kazakh poems indifferently. That’s why, poets tried to introduce the eastern poem to Kazakh nation. Kazakh poets were good as eastern poets in terms of the above mentioned theme. After that new works with different styles peculiar to poets were coming out in the literature. This article deals with nazira tradition in the Kazakh literature and “Leyla and Majnun” poem which is written in nazira tradition. Along with it, we try to evaluate the role of nazira tradition as the witness of historical events. Keywords: Kazakh literature, nazira tradition, Leyla, Majnun, love poem ;

Abstract:
The 19th century was the beginning of a period in the history of Azerbaijan in which new views, different approaches, and judgments emerged. The upheavals in social life as a matter, of course, led to the awakening of literary and artistic thoughts, and enlightenment, and elucidated the development of public, ethnic, and national identity. In the 19th century, the poetic assemblies functioning in Karabakh contributed to the development of literature, especially poetry, and the inclusion of poetry in social life and its impact on it. Thanks to the "Meclis-i Uns" and "Meclis-i Feramushan" literary assemblies, poets living in Karabakh came together and depicted the problems of the period, social life, and nature in their poems. Referring to these literary samples, it is feasible to see the view of 19th-century Karabakh. Aghabeyim Agha, Khurshidbanu Natavan, Fatma Khanim Kamina, and Ashuq Peri were female poets grown up in the Karabakh literary environment in the 19th century. Research related to the life, art, and literary personality of women poets who grew up in Karabakh was thoroughly scrutinized and investigated based on the qualitative method in the article. As a result of our research, we have come to the following conclusions; There is a need to prepare coherent comparative texts from the work of female poets. The works of these poets were published due to the permission of Soviet censorship. Poems with religious content were not included in these books, and Sufi works were presented as secular and divine poems. Keywords: Karabakh, Enlightenment, Poet, Literary Heritage, Azerbaijan.

Grzegorz ?atuszy?ski (1933-2020) was undoubtedly one of the finest Polish translators of 20th century Serbian poetry. Apart from 16 volumes devoted to poems by selected authors, he also published two-volume anthology presenting poems by 155 Serbian poets. Even an on surface analysis of the translations proves ?atuszy?ski?s ability to combine his poetic sensi?tivity with philological precision. Grzegorz ?atuszy?ski also translated two important novels (by Milos Crnjanski and Borislav Pekic) as well as a book of letters by Filip David and Mirko Kovac. Each volume of ?atuszy?ski?s translations is accompanied by a biographical profile of the poets and some characteristics of their work. Another aspect of ?atuszy?ski professional profile is essay writing and journalism. Besides, he translated Polish poetry into Serbian. All ?atuszy?ski?s professional activities has led to a closer cooperation between Polish and Serbian literary circles.

Abstract:
This article aims at giving an overview on the whole romantic period. The start of the romantic period, the way it happened, the poets that helped to make this period shine, the background of the poets and the details of the romantic poetry that ruled this era – all of the aspects are described very elaborately in this article. The romantic age was established at the end of the eighteenth century and it lasted up to the 30’s of the nineteenth century. This romantic period replaced the neoclassical period where the classical poets like Alexander Pope made classical poetry famous among readers. Elements such as imagination, emotion, nature were used very passionately in the romantic poetry. There are more than four poets who wrote romantic poems in this period but only the life and poetry of the significant four poets are written in this article who was William Wordsworth, Samuel Coleridge, John Keats, P. B Shelley. Wordsworth and Coleridge were the very first influencers of the romantic period. Wordsworth portrayed nature very artistically with his imagination in his poems. He wrote poems to pleasure the feelings of the common people. His close friend, Coleridge was influenced by some early politic affairs, his master James bowers and poet William Bowles to write romantic poetry. His investigation of the human nature through his poems made his poems very relatable. John Keats came after Wordsworth and Coleridge in this era. He upheld beauty and imagination frequently in his writing and shared the importance of his created term ‘negative capability.’ P.B Shelley differed from the other romantic poets by giving some importance to logic. He cared about morality and good lessons in his poems. He also portrayed melancholy very beautifully with his pen. This article will guide people in knowing even the little things of the romantic era.

Abstract:
Ottoman poet biographies, whose main purpose is to provide information about the lives, arts and works of poets, are among the most important sources of classical Turkish literature with their examples written more than once in every century from the 16th century to the XX century. The poets, whose biographies give information about their lives, are composed of people who have undertaken different duties belonging to different layers of the Ottoman social structure. After all, the most important point that brings together the biographies of these people, who have serious differences in status, is that they are poets. For the biographies of poets belonging to different strata, the tadhkirah definitely refers to the sources. These sources can be the poet himself, a close friend, another poet’s biographies or a history book, or the author himself. Historical poems written by poets on various occasions over the centuries are also one of the written sources used by tadhkirahs. An important part of the poets in the biographies, using this systematic called abjad calculation and created by assigning numerical values to Arabic letters, they make history on the success of the sultans, the conquests of cities, an important natural event, and even the death of a book they have finished. However, besides the poets, it is seen that the authors of tadhkirahs also write down history with an approach that puts the poets in the center. These dates, which were dropped, give them the identity of a pastor, in the words of the tadhkirahs. It is not because they wrote a history book that is meant by their identity as a pastor; it is the poets’ reduction of dates on some important issues in their lives, which are based on the abjad calculation and written in verse. Within the tradition of Ottoman tadhkirah writing, many tadhkirah writers have dropped dates about the poets they mentioned in their works. In this study, information has been given from the authors of tadhkirahs, who have included history poems in their biographies, and in what ways these dates have contributed to the science of history and literature.

Abstract:
Edmund Waller, William Davenant, Andrew Marvell, and Abraham Cowley were royalist poets who changed sides following the English Revolution, attracted to Cromwellian military power, and the reforming aims of the Independents. This thesis contributes to existing scholarship by showing that the poets engaged strongly with theories of allegiance, self-consciously returning to first principles - the natures of sovereignty and obligation - to develop a concept of allegiance that was contingent and transferrable. Their crucial influence was Hobbes. Hobbes collapsed partisan perspectives into a general theory of sovereignty constituted by a de facto protective and coercive power; this was grounded on a psychological analysis of humans' restless appetite for power. The poets' approach to Hobbes was crucially mediated by Machiavelli, who provided a less abstract account of the relationship between individual agency and collective institutions, and whose concept of virtù offered a model for how restless ambition could be harnessed to political order. An introductory chapter sketches out the intellectual background to this body of theory and reflects on the methods used to show how the poets dramatized it in their works. Chapter two considers the disintegration of Waller's courtly poetry under the pressure of civil war, and his resulting turn to rationalist theory. Chapters three and four focus on the immediate aftermath of the revolution, considering the synthesis of Hobbes' and Machiavelli's theories of military power ventured by Davenant, and the influence of Davenant's ideas on Marvell's Machiavellianism. Chapter five focuses on Cowley and his more religiously-inflected account of Hobbesian psychology and political obligations. Chapter six asks how the poets responded to the Restoration of Charles II, and in particular charts their influence on the younger poet John Dryden. With their emphasis on materialist psychology, the turncoat poets abandoned allegory in favour of a mode of dramatization which observed the contingent circumstances in which allegiances could be generated, dissolved, and transferred. They possessed a political conservatism, but a conceptual radicalism which presented a serious challenge to Anglican and constitutionalist discourses of Stuart monarchy.

Abstract:
<p> A thematic study grounded in transnational and transatlantic studies of modern and postmodern literatures, this dissertation examines five contemporary Irish poets&mdash;John Montague, Padraic Fiacc, James Liddy, Seamus Heaney, and Eavan Boland&mdash;whose separation from Ireland in the United States has produced a distinct body of work that I call, "the poetics of return." As the biological heirs of the Civil War generation and the intellectual heirs of the Irish high modernists, these poets are some of the leading lights of the renaissance in Irish literary arts after midcentury. </p><p> This dissertation argues that an important aspect of this era has been its reevaluation of narratives of political and artistic exile; those created by nationalists and republicans, on the one hand, and modernists such as James Joyce and Samuel Beckett, on the other. Drawing on the criticism of Patrick Ward and Seamus Deane, I argue that the atomization of the critical vocabulary of exile has enabled modern poets greater means to consider the cultural anxieties surrounding their separation from Ireland. Accordingly they have become less interested in the meaning of leaving Ireland and more interested in the meaning of return. This project engages a range of scholarly literature devoted to the Irish poets and poetry of the last half century and reevaluates a number of standard readings and assumptions.</p>

Within the Turkish state tradition, the majority of Turkish Khans are also poets. It is known that some of them even had a divan or had enough poems to form a divan. These khans, as well as being poets themselves, gathered artists around them during their time, protected them and rewarded them in various ways for the poems they wrote. Babur is one of the important Turkish khans who bears this title. The ruler who owns a divan is one of the poets. In his memoirs (Vekayi/Babürname), he mentioned the names of some poets around him or in the places he was in and shared his thoughts about them, their poems and their poetry. Abstract:
The article is devoted to the problem of continuity of Parnassianism in the oeuvre of poets of the first wave of emigration and it is based on material of an analysis of three poems by V. Khodasevich, G. Ivanov and Yu. Terapiano. The poetic controversy between Khodasevich and G. Ivanov in the early 1920s revolved around different views on the role of the poet in difficult historical times, as well as around the dispute about where art comes from, from above or from the soul of the poet. Ideas close to the views of G. Ivanov stemmed from the views of his teacher N. Gumilev, expressed in his article about Theophile Gautier. Already in the 1930s, the same ideas resonated in the work of Yu. Terapiano. He creates a cycle of poems “French Poets”. The Parnassian poet Leconte de Lisle in his poem subordinates the feelings and the world around him in difficult times when “there is no support”.

Abstract:
The construction of Baikal-Amur Mainline gave birth to such unique esthetic phenomenon as BAM literature, that became an indispensable part of the literary process of the second part of the twentieth century (this phenomenon has not been a popular subject of scholarly attention and still awaits for its researcher). BAM literature enriched and diversified the thematic repertoire of famous writers’ oeuvre. During the years of mainline construction BAM was visited by L. Oshanin, Y. Evtushenko, R. Rozhdestvensky, bard-poets N. Dobronravov, M. Plyatskovsky, N. Reznik and many others. Their poems and narrative poems comprised such book collections as Signature of the Century (1976), Mainline (1977), Railroad Joining ( Stykovka) (1984), the Flowers of Labrador Tea (2004). «The construction of the century» was also depicted by children’s writers: N. Hodza («BAM Is a Ringing Word», 1978), Z. Aleksandrova («Letters from BAM», 1980), Y. Marysaev («Blue Railroads», 1983) and others. The object of the current article is Y. Evtushenko’s narrative poem the Glade (Proseka) , that was ambiguously treated by leading Russian literary scholars as well as by the BAM authors. The poem is analyzed in the context of the industrial theme, that took its origin in the oeuvre of V. Mayakovsky and BAM literature with its unique set of images, motives and intonations.

Abstract:
Then Believing in the need of our Arab heritage for a second reading that shows its creativity and originality, we chose Jamil Buthaina, who is considered one of the most important poets of virgin Spinning in the Umayyad era, where his name was associated with the name of his beloved. The Arab in general and beautiful poetry in particular. We notice the dominance of time over Arab poetry and the poets’ gaze. The research is divided into several axes:. - Time in Arabic poetry: which we talked about about the element of time in poetry as it is one of the elements of forming the dramatic structure of the poetic text, and that time is associated with poets even in the poetry industry itself in time. - Time in the virginal spinning poetry We talked about the poets’ view of time and considering it responsible for everything that befalls the poet and for the separation of the beloved and the sadness. Time in jamil poetry Buthaina: In this axis we studied time in beautiful poetry, which he highlighted through dialogue. Beautiful poetry is based on dialogue that shows the life of poetry with its lover, its previous and current status, and its complaint about time. In conclusion, we hope that we have succeeded in presenting an adequate summary of our subject, and that it will be in the service of our Arabic literature and the service of scholars

Abstract:
Huang Lihai is one of the most active contemporary Chinese poets in the past two decades. His poems are a return to poetry, language and life. In the era of change and grand discourse dominating the aesthetic interpretation of literature, Huang Lihai’s poetry and spiritual exploration have obvious implications. His vitality in poetry creation and poetry activities has an important connection with his Christian faith and his thought resources. Huang Lihai pays close attention to individual life with heavy religious feelings, and tries to restore the relationship between man and god, the relationship between man and man, and the relationship between man and nature in the post-modern era. Backed by belief, he maintained human dignity and integrity with poetry, and opened up the divine dimension of poetry writing, which opened up a new aesthetic dimension for the Chinese contemporary poetry.

Abstract:
One of the basic ideas for literary studies of the XXI century was M.M. Bakhtin's idea of dialogue, intercultural and intertextual, without which humanitarian activity is impossible. Yu. Kristeva, developing Bakhtin's teaching, formulated the concept of intertext and intertextuality, discovering them at the dawn of literature. Among Russian poets, O.E. Mandelstam stands out for his penchant for the intertextual method, who addressed other people's texts in different ways - from direct quoting to barely perceptible following someone else's motive - but consciously and even with a theoretical justification of the reception. Scientists have been studying this feature of the poet's creative manner for more than 60 years. The pioneer here can be calledK.F. Taranovsky, with whose light hand all cases of using other people's texts are still called subtexts in Mandelstam studies. M.L. Gasparov in Mandelstam studies distinguished “context”,i.e. “the system of connections of our text with other texts of our author”, and “subtext” as “the system of connections of our text with texts by other authors”. Studying the modern literary process, it can be noted that the poetry of Mandelstam himself often becomes the basis of intertextual connections or subtexts in the works of poets of the turn of the XX-XXI centuries, and the authors belong to different generations and work in different styles. From this point of view, the works of Sergei Gandlevsky, Igor (Gosha) Burenin, Boris Kutenkov are considered.

Abstract:
The reputation of comics in Russia was seriously spoiled in the 90s, when they were viewed as a purely entertaining and mass form. But in fact, in the modern world, the graphic novel is becoming a completely serious genre: great artists are creating comics, scripts for them are written by Ph.D's, and they often touch on complex topics. Moreover, comics have a long history of relationship with literature (for example, in the 30s of the 20th century, during the first wave of emigration, Russian literary comics were valued throughout the world). And in the last decade, this line of interaction has only intensified: many graphic adaptations of classic literary works, comic book biographies of writers and poets are appearing, and descriptions of comic books are increasingly appearing in modern literature. The article will be devoted to the history of various forms of interaction between literature and comics.

Reine, Kevin. A literature review of beach nourishment impacts on marine turtles. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/43829.

Full text
Abstract:
This Technical Report was developed by the U. S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center-Environmental Laboratory (ERDC-EL), to summarize the known impacts to nesting sea turtles along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts resulting from beach nourishment. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is responsible for maintaining the nation’s infrastructure to include ports and harbors through dredging of Federal navigation channels as well as shoreline stabilization. Shoreline stabilization through beach nourishment activities can provide opportunities for reductions in storm surge, flood control, and provide opportunities for residential growth, recreational activities, and coastal habitat restoration (Guilfoyle et al. 2019). Beach nourishment is an effective method for protection and enhancement of coastal development projects but may have detrimental impacts on marine life (e.g., nesting sea turtles and shorebirds). The objective of this Technical Report is to examine all elements of the beach nourishment process to include, active beach construction, entrainment of marine turtles in hopper dredges, beach protection and hard structures, beach profile features, compaction and shear resistance, artificial lighting, marine turtle nest relocation, and nesting habitat factors. Recommendations for mitigating and minimizing these impacts are provided.

Hossain, Niamat Ullah Ibne, Farjana Nur, Raed Jaradat, et al. Metrics for assessing overall performance of inland waterway ports : a Bayesian Network based approach. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/40545.

Full text
Abstract:
Because ports are considered to be the heart of the maritime transportation system, thereby assessing port performance is necessary for a nation’s development and economic success. This study proposes a novel metric, namely, “port performance index (PPI)”, to determine the overall performance and utilization of inland waterway ports based on six criteria, port facility, port availability, port economics, port service, port connectivity, and port environment. Unlike existing literature, which mainly ranks ports based on quantitative factors, this study utilizes a Bayesian Network (BN) model that focuses on both quantitative and qualitative factors to rank a port. The assessment of inland waterway port performance is further analyzed based on different advanced techniques such as sensitivity analysis and belief propagation. Insights drawn from the study show that all the six criteria are necessary to predict PPI. The study also showed that port service has the highest impact while port economics has the lowest impact among the six criteria on PPI for inland waterway ports.

Full text
Abstract:
We developed a technical efficiency analysis of container ports in Latin America and the Caribbean using an input-oriented stochastic frontier model. We employed a 10-year panel with data on container throughput, port terminal area, berth length, and number of available cranes in 63 ports. The model has three innovations with respect to the available literature: (i) we treated ship-to-shore gantry cranes and mobile cranes separately, in order to account for the higher productivity of the former; (ii) we introduced a binary variable for ports using ships¿ cranes, treated as an additional source of port productivity; and (iii) we introduced a binary variable for ports operating as transshipment hubs. Their associated parameters are highly significant in the production function. The results show an improvement in the average technical efficiency of ports in the Latin American and Caribbean region from 36% to 50% between 1999 and 2009; the best performing port in 2009 achieved a technical efficiency of 94%with respect to the frontier. The paper also studies possible determinants of port technical efficiency, such as ownership, corruption, transshipment, income per capita, and location. The results revealed positive and significant associations between technical efficiency and both transshipment activities and lower corruption levels.

Micco, Alejandro, and Natalia Pérez. Determinants of Maritime Transport Costs. Inter-American Development Bank, 2002. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0011324.

Full text
Abstract:
Recent literature has emphasized the importance of transport costs and infrastructure in explaining trade, access to markets, and increases in per capita income. For most Latin American countries, transport costs are a greater barrier to U.S. markets than import tariffs. The authors investigate the determinants of shipping costs to the U.S. with a large database of more than 300,000 observations per year on shipments of products at the six-digit HS level from different ports around the world. In addition, the authors find that efficiency of ports is an important determinant of shipping costs. Inefficient ports also increase handling costs, which are one of the components of shipping costs. The authors try to explain variations in port efficiency and find that they are linked to excessive regulation, the prevalence of organized crime, and the general condition of the country's infrastructure. Finally, the authors present a number of success stories in Latin America to show that private involvement in port management leads to efficiency and lower costs whenever it is accompanied by labor reform, and when monopoly power is reduced through either regulation or competition.

Karlstrom, Karl, Laura Crossey, Allyson Matthis, and Carl Bowman. Telling time at Grand Canyon National Park: 2020 update. National Park Service, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.36967/nrr-2285173.

Full text
Abstract:
Grand Canyon National Park is all about time and timescales. Time is the currency of our daily life, of history, and of biological evolution. Grand Canyon’s beauty has inspired explorers, artists, and poets. Behind it all, Grand Canyon’s geology and sense of timelessness are among its most prominent and important resources. Grand Canyon has an exceptionally complete and well-exposed rock record of Earth’s history. It is an ideal place to gain a sense of geologic (or deep) time. A visit to the South or North rims, a hike into the canyon of any length, or a trip through the 277-mile (446-km) length of Grand Canyon are awe-inspiring experiences for many reasons, and they often motivate us to look deeper to understand how our human timescales of hundreds and thousands of years overlap with Earth’s many timescales reaching back millions and billions of years. This report summarizes how geologists tell time at Grand Canyon, and the resultant “best” numeric ages for the canyon’s strata based on recent scientific research. By best, we mean the most accurate and precise ages available, given the dating techniques used, geologic constraints, the availability of datable material, and the fossil record of Grand Canyon rock units. This paper updates a previously-published compilation of best numeric ages (Mathis and Bowman 2005a; 2005b; 2007) to incorporate recent revisions in the canyon’s stratigraphic nomenclature and additional numeric age determinations published in the scientific literature. From bottom to top, Grand Canyon’s rocks can be ordered into three “sets” (or primary packages), each with an overarching story. The Vishnu Basement Rocks were once tens of miles deep as North America’s crust formed via collisions of volcanic island chains with the pre-existing continent between 1,840 and 1,375 million years ago. The Grand Canyon Supergroup contains evidence for early single-celled life and represents basins that record the assembly and breakup of an early supercontinent between 729 and 1,255 million years ago. The Layered Paleozoic Rocks encode stories, layer by layer, of dramatic geologic changes and the evolution of animal life during the Paleozoic Era (period of ancient life) between 270 and 530 million years ago. In addition to characterizing the ages and geology of the three sets of rocks, we provide numeric ages for all the groups and formations within each set. Nine tables list the best ages along with information on each unit’s tectonic or depositional environment, and specific information explaining why revisions were made to previously published numeric ages. Photographs, line drawings, and diagrams of the different rock formations are included, as well as an extensive glossary of geologic terms to help define important scientific concepts. The three sets of rocks are separated by rock contacts called unconformities formed during long periods of erosion. This report unravels the Great Unconformity, named by John Wesley Powell 150 years ago, and shows that it is made up of several distinct erosion surfaces. The Great Nonconformity is between the Vishnu Basement Rocks and the Grand Canyon Supergroup. The Great Angular Unconformity is between the Grand Canyon Supergroup and the Layered Paleozoic Rocks. Powell’s term, the Great Unconformity, is used for contacts where the Vishnu Basement Rocks are directly overlain by the Layered Paleozoic Rocks. The time missing at these and other unconformities within the sets is also summarized in this paper—a topic that can be as interesting as the time recorded. Our goal is to provide a single up-to-date reference that summarizes the main facets of when the rocks exposed in the canyon’s walls were formed and their geologic history. This authoritative and readable summary of the age of Grand Canyon rocks will hopefully be helpful to National Park Service staff including resource managers and park interpreters at many levels of geologic understandings...

Full text
Abstract:
The article deals with the technology of visualizing fictional text (poetry) with the help of emoji symbols in the Emoji Maker platform that not only activates students’ thinking, but also develops creative attention, makes it possible to reproduce the meaning of poetry in a succinct way. The application of this technology has yielded the significance of introducing a computer being emoji in the study and mastering of literature is absolutely logical: an emoji, phenomenologically, logically and eidologically installed in the digital continuum, is separated from the natural language provided by (ethno)logy, and is implicitly embedded into (cosmo)logy. The technology application object is the text of the twentieth century Cuban poet José Ángel Buesa. The choice of poetry was dictated by the appeal to the most important function of emoji – the expression of feelings, emotions, and mood. It has been discovered that sensuality can reconstructed with the help of this type of meta-linguistic digital continuum. It is noted that during the emoji design in the Emoji Maker program, due to the technical limitations of the platform, it is possible to phenomenologize one’s own essential-empirical reconstruction of the lyrical image. Creating the image of the lyrical protagonist sign, it was sensible to apply knowledge in linguistics, philosophy of language, psychology, psycholinguistics, literary criticism. By constructing the sign, a special emphasis was placed on the facial emogram, which also plays an essential role in the transmission of a wide range of emotions, moods, feelings of the lyrical protagonist. Consequently, the Emoji Maker digital platform allowed to create a new model of digital presentation of fiction, especially considering the psychophysiological characteristics of the lyrical protagonist. Thus, the interpreting reader, using a specific digital toolkit – a visual iconic sign (smile) – reproduces the polylaterial metalinguistic multimodality of the sign meaning in fiction. The effectiveness of this approach is verified by the poly-functional emoji ousia, tested on texts of fiction.

Abstract:
This brief summarises key considerations concerning cross-border dynamics between Uganda and Rwanda in the context of the 2022 outbreak of Ebola (Sudan Virus Disease, SVD) in Uganda. It is part of a series focusing on at-risk border areas between Uganda and four high priority neighbouring countries: Rwanda; Tanzania; Kenya; and South Sudan. The outbreak began in Mubende, Uganda on 19 September 2022, approximately 300 kilometres from the Uganda-Rwanda border. At the time of writing (November 2022) it has spread to nine Ugandan districts, including two in the Kampala metropolitan area. Kampala is a transport hub, with a population over 3.6 million. While the global risk from SVD remains low according to the World Health Organization, its presence in the Uganda capital has significantly heightened the risk to regional neighbours. Rwanda is categorised as Priority 1, with significant preparedness activities underway. As of November 2022, there had been no case of SVD imported from Uganda into Rwanda, although alerts have been triggered at border posts. This brief provides details about cross-border relations, the political and economic dynamics likely to influence these, and specific areas and actors most at risk. It is based on a rapid review of existing published and grey literature, news reports, previous ethnographic research in Rwanda and Uganda, and informal discussions with colleagues from Save the Children, UNICEF, UNECA, UNDP, IOM, TBI, and the World Bank. It was requested by the Collective Service, written by Hugh Lamarque (University of Edinburgh) and supported by Olivia Tulloch (Anthrologica. It was reviewed by colleagues from Save the Children, Anthrologica, the Institute of Development Studies and the Collective Service. This brief is the responsibility of SSHAP.
