Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study the optimization of the geographical location of a network of points of sale, so that each retailer can have access to a potential geographic market. In addition, the authors study the importance of the distance variable in the commercial viability of a point of sale and a network of points of sale, analysing if the best location for each point (local optimum) is always the best location for the whole (global optimum). Design/methodology/approach Location-allocation models are applied using p-median algorithms and spatial competition maximization to analyse the actual journeys of 64,740 car buyers in 1240 postal codes using a geographic information system (GIS) and geomarketing techniques. Findings The models show that the pursuit of individual objectives by each concessionaire over the collective provides poorer results for the whole network of points of sale when compared to coordinated competition. The solutions provided by the models considering geographic and marketing criteria permit a reduction in the length of journeys made by the buyers. GIS allows the optimal control of market demand coverage through the collaborative strategies of the supplying retailers, in this case, car dealerships. Originality/value The paper contributes to the joint research of geography and marketing from a theoretical and practical point of view. The main contribution is the use of information on actual buyer journeys for the optimal location of a network of points of sale. This research also contributes to the analysis of the correlation between the optimum local and optimum global locations of a commercial network and is a pioneering work in the application of these models to the automotive sector in the territorial area of the study.

Abstract:
This article presents a practical approach to estimate the substitution probabilities between products at a retail store by using the store's point of sale data and prospect theory based structural restrictions on the consumer choice behavior. The prospect theory-based reference dependent preference structure imposed on the consumer choice behavior (a) accounts for how consumers make their original choice as well as how they substitute, (b) eliminates the IIA and IPS assumptions that the standard utility theory based models impose on consumer choice, and (c) alleviates the need for inventory information for estimating the substitution probabilities. Simulations and empirical studies have been used to show that the estimates of the substitution probabilities are efficient and are robust to stock-out rates.

Abstract:
Research in both the organizational and information systems areas suggests that aligning information systems and dimensions of the organization improves performance. However, the dynamic nature of both information systems and organizations makes a close alignment more an aspiration than a state. This paper examines alignment from the perspective of the management processes through which companies may achieve and sustain alignment in dynamic environments. In so doing they may also develop core capabilities in managing IS innovation, which enable sustained competitive advantage. The paper traces the evolution of alignment in a company that used information systems to develop the business in new strategic directions, and shows how semi-structures contributed to this.

Abstract:
For 42 states and the District of Columbia, lottery games provide a steady revenue source which can bring in up to 4% of annual state revenues. Unlike other public finance tools such as income taxes, lottery products enjoy substantial popularity. A particular reason they appear to be popular among state policymakers is that lotteries are often referred to as a “voluntary tax.” Compared to income taxes, however, relatively little is known about who plays the lottery and thus who provides states with this stream of “voluntary tax revenues.” State government budgets in the US are currently under pressure for both structural and cyclical reasons. As a result, many are debating the expansion of state-sponsored gambling to enhance their fiscal revenue streams. Previous studies have presented evidence that lotteries are regressive. For the current public policy debate to be fully informed, it is important to have information about who pays the “voluntary tax.” This paper uses unpublished FY 2005 sales data, provided by the Maryland Lottery Commission, from every individual lottery point of sale terminal in the state of Maryland. Because our data include the physical addresses of the terminals, we use an interdisciplinary approach to analyze this data by incorporating some tools from contemporary economic geography into our research. First, we marry the lottery-terminal data to census tract data and examine it using geographic information system (GIS) maps. We use the GIS maps to explore the relationship between race, income, per-capita lottery sales and the density of lottery retail sites. We also use the maps to attempt to shed some light on how different racial and income groups contribute to total state lottery revenues. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first in-depth use of GIS techniques to explore these questions.Because the data include not only the physical address of the terminal, but sales data disaggregated by lottery game, we are able to show the geographic distribution of the sales of particular lottery games, offering insight into how different games are played by the populations in different areas of the state. These analyses reflect new directions in the study of the lottery as a public policy issue, offering insights beyond the usual research on income and demographic effects. Finally, we present the results of a regression analysis of the effect of various social and economic factors on per-capita lottery sales. Our results confirm the findings of many previous studies, but also demonstrate that the nature of the demographic “burden” of the lottery may not be the same in Maryland as it is in other states where studies have been conducted. We are grateful for the assistance of Joe School and Anthony Dowell, for research support provided by the Special Research Initiative Fund at UMBC, to the Maryland Lottery Commission, and to participants of the Symposium on Gambling, Prediction Markets, and Public Policy hosted by Nottingham-Trent University. Abstract:
ABSTRACT Odoo is an open source ERP application where there are various business programs such as Sales, Point of Sale, CRM, Human Resources, Finance and Accounting and others. One application module developed by Odoo is Point of Sale. Point of sale (POS) is a system that can help the transaction process in a business that is engaged in sales such as supermarkets, restaurants, clothing stores and so others. The use of the Odoo POS application among Indonesian people still sounds not familiar because of the lack of information related to the use of the Odoo POS application. Documentation from the Odoo POS application is available on the Odoo websiteHowever, the documentation does not yet have the function to download documentation files and has not been displayed visually in video format. From this, there is a need for documentation using the Odoo POS application that can download documentation files and display documentation visually in video format to distinguish between the original POS Odoo application documentation module and the Odoo POS application documentation module that the author made. For this reason, was built Application Documentation Module Point of Sale Odoo Based on Web at Pt Belant Persada. The Odoo POS application documentation module contains documentation about the use of the POS Odoo application for retail and restaurant fields and this documentation can be downloaded freely in PDF format and displays the documentation visually in video formatThe method used in the development of the Odoo POS application documentation module is the prototype method. This method has five stages is Communication, Quick Plan, Modeling Quick Design, Construction of Prototype, and Deployment, Delivery, & Feedback.

Abstract:
In the current setting of county governments in Kenya, efficient tax collection is highly dependent on validation of payment documents. This has led to challenges due to the fact that revenue collection has traditionally employed paper-based collection receipts. The research targets to address the challenges of validation of payment receipts in offline revenue collection systems. It supports automation attempts that have been made through the introduction of electronic mobile point of sale terminals. The solution is based on providing an offline model that supports the distributed nature of payment stations. This approach focuses on using cryptography-based techniques to enable offline validation of receipts even in cases of unreliable network connectivity. The objective is to provide a solution that affords ease of both revenue collections for the county governments and payments for the citizenry while stopping revenue leakages, ensuring reliable verification of payment receipts, thus maximising of revenue collection by providing reliable accounting reports. The research provides a reliable revenue collection system that enables offline receipting and verification of payment receipts in integrated mobile point of sale terminals. The solution presented has successfully been implemented and tested in one of the County Governments in Kenya.

Abstract:
The increase in the scale of retail grocery operations to the supermarkets of today has been at the expense of the detailed knowledge of local customer preferences that small retailers could possess. This article examines the features of a technological solution to this problem and describes how the Vision System, an interactive multimedia point-of-sale shopper loyalty and promotion system, is revolutionizing retail marketing in the United States. The implications of highly-targeted marketing at the individual household level, micromarketing, are examined and it is suggested that supermarkets using such systems would achieve a significant competitive advantage. It is also suggested that the widespread adoption of Vision-type systems would have a profound impact upon manufacturers and the marketing industry as a whole.

Abstract:
This paper presents a framework for mutual authentication between a user device and a point of sale (POS) machine using magnetic secure transmission (MST) to prevent the wormhole attack in Samsung pay. The primary attribute of this method is authenticating the POS terminals by an authentication server to bind the generated token to a single POS machine. To secure the system from eavesdropping attack, the data transmitted between the user device and the machine is encrypted by using the Elgamal encryption method. The keys used in the method are dynamic in nature. Furthermore, comparison and security analysis are presented with previously proposed systems.

Abstract:
- Fruits and fresh vegetables direct selling: case from a Sicilian experience A specific producer's organization based on cooperative governance system that operates in the Province of Catania, primarily in the citrus fruit sector, has promoted in the first part of nineties a network of retailer stores, located in the northeast of Italy and directly managed by the cooperative members. This network of agricultural 118 producers has subsequently involved an increasing number of cooperatives and points of sale, structuring a policy based on a supply of citrus fruit linked with others fresh vegetables. This phenomenon is still growing, taking advantage of several new laws (the "Orientation law", the reformed Commercial law, and the 2007 State Financial Budget law) that simplify administrative and fiscal regulation on selling procedures. This law innovation process has also created new rules to make retailing activity easy and favourable (especially from the fiscal point of view) to direct selling run by the agricultural entrepreneur. This research takes in to account the economic results of this particular retailing activity, through an exploratory investigation conducted during 2005 and 2006, which underlines the added-value, generated by this specific formula used as a marketing tool. Furthermore, through this study it is possible to put in evidence, from the strategic point of view, some relevant characteristic constitutional elements and strengths or weaknesses system of this Sicilian producer's organization model. The study results show the importance of an innovative organizational and managerial model for local agriculture, and how it is possible to compete in the market and guarantee sale flows and a interesting added-value level for the producers. The evidence of the study, concerning this specific network formula, introduces two different advantages. The first one is to protect agriculture and to guarantee the sale of the annual production, when there is a large volume of production. The second one is connected to the possibility of regulating sale flows and price level thanks to the extremely elastic structure of sales points, characterised by low investments and low fixed costs. Moreover, goods supply on command at sale points, enable a "just in time" shipment, optimizing logistics and goods collection in the company. The determination of the Unit Gross income obtained by the company production direct selling, has put in evidence the great amount of operative margins of the examined distributional channel. It has to be remarked that these margins can even increase if the company production gets integrated with associated organisations that are controlling complementary goods production. In other words, the recent law which encourages these integrations enable producers to increase their gainsJEL Code: Q13Key words: direct selling, citrus, organization, supply, value-added

Abstract:
AbstractThe purpose of the paper is to investigate the main causes of discount between list price and forced sale value in the Italian real estate auction segment, in favor of more comprehensive determination of the value of mortgage underlying guarantees; this would allow for an improvement of further valorization processes of assets intended to obtain a higher selling price.Starting from the results of existing literature, an ordinary least squares regression analysis was conducted in order to point out the main determinants of the discount between list price and forced sale value. It has been verified, when sampling 225 cases of forced residential property sales in the South of Italy, that the time constraint of the Italian regulatory framework is more relevant with reference to discount rather than the physical characteristics of assets. The influence of the duration of procedures is proof that even if recent government initiatives have led to positive results in terms of reducing the length of procedures, this is not yet satisfactory compared to other European contexts. This provides evidence of the need for further interventions aimed at improving the efficiency of the procedural system, also encouraging recourse to other options that lead to ease judicial burden.

Abstract:
The actual problem of marketing communications management of Ukrainian retailers from the point of view of the system approach is considered. It is shown that the specificity of these marketing communications is determined both by the goals they are aimed at, and by means of communication. The objectives of marketing communications are: formation of the brand image of retailer, attracting consumers to visit places of sale, incentive to make a purchase, promotion of consumer satisfaction and ensuring the consumer loyalty. The main types of marketing communications are advertising, sales promotion, public relations, direct marketing, integrated marketing communications at places of sale and personal sales. Within each type, subspecies of traditional and electronic communications are singled out. A systemic approach to managing marketing communications in the modern conditions should be based on the principles of purposefulness, customer focus, specificity, integration, interactivity, individualization, optimality and social ethics. At the same time, the success of communications is determined primarily by the extent to which they are convenient and useful to consumers. To implement these principles, it is proposed to implement in the process of managing the marketing communications system of retail enterprises such specific functions as marketing researches of consumer attitudes towards communications, adjustment of communications based on research results and forecasting the communicative effects. Approbation of the proposed methodological approach is made using data of enterprises of retail trade networks, which carry out sales of household electrical goods, information and communication equipment. It has been established that trade networks are now more intensively using less important for consumers types of communications, and vice versa. Changing the structure of the marketing communications system taking into account the benefits of consumers will improve the indicators of the communicative effects of marketing communications; this will enhance the competitiveness and economic efficiency of retail businesses in Ukraine.

Abstract:
Background With a rapidly evolving tobacco retail environment, it is increasingly necessary to understand the point-of-sale (POS) advertising environment as part of tobacco surveillance and control. Advances in machine learning and image processing suggest the ability for more efficient and nuanced data capture than previously available. Objective The study aims to use machine learning algorithms to discover the presence of tobacco advertising in photographs of tobacco POS advertising and their location in the photograph. Methods We first collected images of the interiors of tobacco retailers in West Virginia and the District of Columbia during 2016 and 2018. The clearest photographs were selected and used to create a training and test data set. We then used a pretrained image classification network model, Inception V3, to discover the presence of tobacco logos and a unified object detection system, You Only Look Once V3, to identify logo locations. Results Our model was successful in identifying the presence of advertising within images, with a classification accuracy of over 75% for 8 of the 42 brands. Discovering the location of logos within a given photograph was more challenging because of the relatively small training data set, resulting in a mean average precision score of 0.72 and an intersection over union score of 0.62. Conclusions Our research provides preliminary evidence for a novel methodological approach that tobacco researchers and other public health practitioners can apply in the collection and processing of data for tobacco or other POS surveillance efforts. The resulting surveillance information can inform policy adoption, implementation, and enforcement. Limitations notwithstanding, our analysis shows the promise of using machine learning as part of a suite of tools to understand the tobacco retail environment, make policy recommendations, and design public health interventions at the municipal or other jurisdictional scale.

Abstract:
There are still many non-profit organizations that use manual information system of sales accounting compared to computerized ones. This study aims to design a non-profit organization's information system of sales accounting in a case study of LPIT Al-Furqan Yogyakarta. Unlike previous studies that use the subject of a trading company, this research uses non-profit organizations engaged in education. Data collection techniques are carried out with methods of observation, interviews, and documentation. The proposed design uses the SDLC method. Sales Transaction Analysis uses PIECES analysis. The results of system analysis show that the sales accounting information system in LPIT Al-Furqan consists of a credit sales system and cash receipt system. The sales procedure includes the invoice making procedure, cash receipt procedures, and sales recording procedures. The design results provide recommendations that also need the development of accounting information systems on LPIT Al-Furqan such as Point of Sale (POS) and Payroll purchase systems so that the system becomes more integrated. It also needs to be developed to produce open-source software on the market so that it can be used by a wider non-profit organization.

Abstract:
In full-service restaurants, it is important to share customer information among staff members in real time in order to perform complicated operations. Conventional point of sale (POS) systems in restaurants was developed to improve the verification and transmission of order information passed from the dining hall to the kitchen. However, POS systems have remained insufficient to share customers’ order information among many staff members in different positions. This paper introduces an information sharing system for full-service restaurants using an advanced POS system with which staff members can share order information in real time. Using this system, kitchen staff members can grasp the total number of orders and the elapsed time for preparation of each order. Moreover, service staff members can grasp the status of each customer quickly. Using this system in a large-scale restaurant, preparation processes can be made more efficient and reduce customer complaints.
