The purpose of this research is to analyze Colombian police policy with particular reference to the police and urban policing after the promulgation of the Constitution of 1991. This study examines how the Constitution of 1991 has impacted on the configuration, professionalization and institutionalization of the Colombian police. This dissertation concludes that the new Constitution of 1991 was crucial in transforming an insignificant organization into a noteworthy public institution with its own corporate aims and ethos and a certain autonomy regarding the government, parties, ministries and

This thesis explores the use of scientific knowledge in policy-making. It is widely recognised that use of natural resources, such as water, is unsustainable across much of the world. In response, there is a desire for and expectation that science should be used to help improve natural resource management and contribute to the pursuit of sustainability. This research is centred on a comparative case study analysis of the use of science in water resource management policies for Southeast Queensland, Australia. Abstract:
There is an ongoing need for scientific information to inform natural resource policy decisions, and scientists are viewed as reliable sources of expertise and objectivity at the interface between science and policy. One important question at this interface is whether or not scientists should advocate policy outcomes, and if so, under what conditions? While advocacy can be advantageous to natural resource management policy formation, the risk of scientific credibility loss is often a major deterrent from scientist engagement in advocacy and policy decisions. This study draws upon the results
