Full text--- The objective of this research was to carry out morphological, phisiological and molecular characterization of three isolates of Beauveria brongniartii: CIPCa18(85), CIPCu1(44) y CIPH1(1). In addition, entomogenous activity was tested in Phthorimaea operculella y Symmetrischema tangolias. Isolate CIPCu1(44) showed shorter and spherical conidia while isolates CIPCa18(85) y CIPH1(1) showed tipical elipsoidal conidia. RAPD technique showed a relation between isolates CIPCu1(44) and CIPLM1 (B. bassiana) with 50.4% of similarity. Patogegenicity test showed that isolates were effective to first instar larves, the use of 1 x 109 conidia/ml caused until 100% mortality for both insects. CL50 for isolates CIPCa18(85), CIPCu1(44) and CIPH1(1) obtained in P. operculella larves were 2.71 x 105, 5.53 x 105 and 5.19 x 105 conidias/ml and CL90 for each isolate were 6.81 x 106, 1.22 x 107 and 5.97 x 106 conidias/ml respectively. CL50 for isolates CIPCa18(85), CIPCu1(44) and CIPH1(1) obtained in S. tangolias were 1.16 x 106, 9.37 x 106 and 4.52 x 106 conidias/ml and CL90 for each isolate were 6.01 x 107, 1.46 x 109 and 2.17 x 108 conidias/ml respectively. In other essays, isolates of B. brongniartii needed more time to kill 50% of S. tangolias larves (9 to 10 days) while isolates of B. brongniartii needed only 3 to 5 days to kill 50% of P. operculella. With CL90, isolates needed about 3 days for both insects. Finally, each CL50 y CL90 of three isolates were tested in eggs, last instar larves and pupae, results showed that all develop stages were susceptible to B. brongniartii. Isolate CIPCa18(85) showed the best entomogenous activity to make control of P. operculella y S. tangolias because it came of the same insect order, we suggest more studies with this isolate in greenhouse.

Full textIn the areas of potato productions (Solanum tuberosum Linneo) from Peru, a species of potato tuber moth (PTM): Symmetrischema tangolias Gyen (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) it comes displacing in predominance to Phthorimaea operculella Zeller (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae). The objective of this investigation was to develop an effective bioinsecticide formule against both pests, based on PoGV, Btk or the combination of both. The treatment of the potato tubers (cv. “Peruanita”) was realized by immersion when was used one solution formulated or by covers when the powder formulation was, over, which was, inoculated the neonatal larvae. The laboratory bioassays were developed at control condition 25°C (P. operculella), 20°C (S. tangolias) and at room condition for the potato storage. Due the effects of some inert material over the mortality, the talcum formulation of both pathogens tested showed better efficacy than aqueous solution formulated. Reaching the CL50 level using less concentration of PoGV (16 times) and Btk (5 to 6 times) in comparison with the respective aqueous applications (1,55×107 granules/mL; IC95%: 1,26×107- 2,14×107 and 1321 mg/L; IC95%: 1084-1555) against P. operculella. The difference was 2 to 4 time minor in S. tangolias concerning aqueous applications of Btk (3095 mg/L; IC95% 1711-3575). The PoGV-Btk interaction against P. operculella results mixed, reaching to the antagonism in front of high concentrations of both pathogens and synergistic to low concentrations. Two formulations: Btk and Btk+PoGV was developed and applied in potato storage, permitting increments populations 90 days later, only in S. tangolias (3,0 2,7%) (larvae and pupae/100 tubers), then of diminishing them to levels of 1,7% (30 days). With this results is not recommended the use formulations combined of Btk+PoGV by not getting important synergism; recommending the use of the talcum Btk product, for their high affectivity against both species of potato tuber moth.

The potato is a crop grown primarily for domestic consumption, contributing to food security. In 2012, 4.47 MT were produced and only less than 4% was processed or transformed, while the rest is sold fresh, mainly through middlemen who negotiate the product in wholesale markets in Lima and other big cities in the country. This strategic planning has been developed for potatoes, covering all products, such as fresh potatoes, shredded potatoes, frozen processed potatoes, chips and potato flour. It is characterized as a crop with a wide geographical spread and variability in the technologies used, which involves, collectors, wholesalers and retailers. Producers are mostly small farmers located in the highlands of Peru, who operate informally without access to quality seeds or any other inputs. In terms of marketing, the main threat is a decline in per capita consumption, due to the presence of substitutes in the diet of Peruvians as rice or pasta. That is why demand and potato consumption among the population of all socioeconomic levels have to be motivated, highlighting their strengths and improving marketing systems, mainly a more attractive and clean presentation of the product, both in supermarkets and traditional markets. This strategic plan presents a vision for the year 2023, the Peruvian potatowill the main product lead in production and food level in Latin America, recognized the Peru as a the country reference for biodiversity in the Peruvian land, used to high technology to better farming rates. To achieve this vision, production and exportswill be increased, encouraging production chains and raising the percentage of potatoes transformed or processed, and increasing per capita consumption

Proeulia auraria, a native species from Chile, causes damage to vineyards, blueberries, apple trees, pear trees, among others, and has quarantine status. The development of alternative controls for this pest is very important to the sustainable agricultural management of the country. The identification of the sexual pheromone of P. auraria, in 2014, will allow to evaluate new alternative controls, but before there must be a based behavioral line. For that, it was characterized the sexual behavior of P. auraria and its stereotype grade. In laboratory assays, the time in which calling behavior occurs was characterized (05:00 – 07:00 h) from a total of 55 sequences. To evaluate male responses, field and laboratory assays were performed and the flight sequences from 22 males were obtained. For courtship, eight pairs of individuals who courted were obtained, of which 5 were successful. These sequences were analyzed with Chi-square or Fisher’s Exact tests, indicating that each behavioural step depends on the immediately preceding step and that transitions among step sequences were stereotyped. This study will support the development of new control techniques for this pest, based on modifying their sexual behavior.

The economic importance that the tortricid moths have reached in the last 30 years, particularly in the quarantine restrictions set within the fruit export areas, requires a better biological specific information of the major native species involved in common quarantine detections, specially to have a better knowledge of the morphological characters separating larval stages. In the present work, the taxonomic description of the last instar larvae and pupae of two of the commonest fruit tree leafrollers Proeulia auraria (Clarke) y Proeulia chrysopteris (Butler) are presented. Studies were made on specific laboratory rearings; the last (fifth) larval instar was characterized according to anatomical features, particularly from their setal distribution in selected larval segments and cephalic areas. Other major specific details, such as feeding behaviour and local distribution are accompanying each treated entity. Terminology used in the description of larval data, chaetotaxy and others, are essentially based in basic literature (Hinton, 1946; MacKay, 1959; MacKay, 1962; Stehr, 1987; Vargas, 2006). As far as the pupae, morphological information has been adopted from Gilligan et al. (2008). Confirmation on specific adults entities was drawn from comparative genitalia studies this was also compared in major taxonomic studies (Obraztsov, 1964; Razowski, 1995; Razowski, 1999). To facilitate species comparative identification, a dicotomic key is provided for last larval instars of the species studied. Insofar pupal structures is concerned, those pertaining of both sexes of P. auraria and P. chrysopteris are also dealt with.
