The purpose of this paper is to offer a socio-psychological perspective to the American gun control debate by examining the concept of conflicting worldviews of Americans suggested by Donald Braman and Dan M. The data analysed consists of two political debates regarding guns in 2016, one with the president at the time, Barack Obama, and another with the presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary

Mass shootings are of particular interest because of the graphic and often senseless nature of the crime. This study looked particularly at the 2011 Tucson, Arizona mass shooting.
