Samuel, Jérôme. "Modernisation lexicale et politique terminologique : le cas de l'indonésien." Paris, INALCO, 2000. http://www.theses.fr/2000INAL0007.
Full textThis dissertation study the process of lexical modernisation of Indonesian, understand as the adaptation of specialised lexicons to the needs of intertranslability with foreign languages et seen from the State activities point of vue. First, I consider the modernisation of Indonesian (called "Malay" until the 1920s) as an historical process, during the time of Netherlands Indies (1818-1942) which contribution must be underlined, and mostly during the time of post-colonial Indonesia (since 1942). Between 1942 and 1966, merely the quantitative aspect of terminological production is emphasized, but those activities cannot be called neither "policy" nor "planning". The years 1975-1995 show remarkable developments of the terminological policy being the planed equipment of specialized lexicons and the cooperation between the Malay-speaking countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei), in order to harmonise those lexicons. Nevertheless, the results for the last two decades show two failures. Terminological harmonisation has been hindered, because the Malay-speaking partners have made different linguistic choices, moreover the technical literature does not circulate between their countries. Official terminologies have not been implemented, because of the lack of adequate policy, besides the Indonesian terminologists take no further interest in the living use of language. Finally, I examine the official terminological products and, more widely, the specialised lexical directories of the Indonesian language. Starting from a corpus including 1116 items, I propose a typology of it, which take account of specificities due to terminological and conceptual dependency of Indonesian toward English. Appendices comprise : an indo-Malaysian vocabulary of electromagnetics ; fundamental Indonesian terms of thermodynamics ; and annotated bibliography of specialised lexical directories of the Indonesian language

Full textThe central question discussed by this text can be formulated as follow: why rural contestations explose in indonesia ? what are their real reasous ? through our case, we come to a hypothesis that economic exploitation and repression are the most important root of these contestations. As economic exploitation and repression themselves are the results of certain politic or polition, then these politics can be said as a concentrated expression of economic and other interests. So that politic implemented by groups in power, can be defined as a choice. That is why to understand contestations, it is indispensable to study political and socio-cultural around them. Our case shows us too that it is often that repressive politic itself becomes the bearer of contestations. And repression can never preventcontestations to explose as well as the current of river lools for its own way flows to the sea. On the other band, contestations push forward our society to develop. The next question follows our hypothesis then: is there another human'alternative policy for development can be offered to our society?
Szurek, Emmanuel. "Gouverner par les mots : une histoire linguistique de la Turquie nationaliste." Paris, EHESS, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013EHES0027.
Full textThis thesis focuses on language policies in nationalist Turkey between the late 1920s and the mid 1940s. It claims to present a social and intellectual history of linguistic practices and their authoritarian transformation in the single-party era (adoption of the Latin alphabet in 1928, systematic eviction of usual Arabic and Persian words in the 1930s in favor of Turkish vocables, massive production of "Turkish-pure" neologisms in the 1930s and 1940s ; adoption of a patronymic system of identification of the individuals from 1934 onwards). It is a cross analysis, conducted in the long term and from a transnational perspective, of four types of phenomena, respectively a linguistic phenomena (language practices, clutched on social variance), a metalinguistic phenomena (scientific knowledges) and an epilinguistic dimension (linguistic opinion movements). Highlighting the interrelationships between these four levels of reality is what we call a linguistic history of nationalist Turkey

Full textFrom 1788 onwards, the definitions of English in Australia are negative : the vocabulary is slangy and vulgar, the pronunciation is nasal and slipshod. These attitudes provoke a linguistic complex of inferiority towards Great Britain. This complex is the mainspring of the phenomenon of defence of Australian English. During the Bulletin era, as the detractors of Australian English acquire a pseudo-scientific credibility, a resolution to defend the language emerges. There are three stages of evolution in the defence : claim, recognition and justification. The champions of Australian English have been working on the acceptance of an Australian linguistic change. They favour an endocentric view on Australian English rather than a eurocentric comparative judgment. In the prescientific era, S. J. Baker found support in America, with H. L. Mencken. During the scientific era, the Australian linguists proved that Australian English is appropriate to its environment, providing a scientific and institutional justification

Full textThe notion of multilingualism is a concept that has been taken into serious consideration by the European Union and the Council of Europe in order to create a society that is open to individualization and multi – culturalism. The present study examines the history of the linguistic policy of the Greek state from 1830 until the present time as regard the Greek language, the foreign languages, the minority languages and the languages of the immigrants. The aim of this study is to explore the notion of multilingualism in the educational, social and political field and to ascertain whether the contemporary Greek state is ready to accept it
Scalbert-Yücel, Clémence. "Conflit linguistique et champ littéraire kurde en Turquie." Paris 4, 2005. http://www.theses.fr/2005PA040164.
Full textThe Kurdish field of literature which uses a dominated language is questioned here inside the frame of the territorialized language conflict in Turkey. This conflict places front to front two nationalisms with contradictory views regarding identities and territories. So first we question the Turkish State language policies concerning the Kurdish language and the territory to which it refers. Face to face to those policies, there stand the Kurdish politic movements whose one of the functions is to define a national identity and its possible link with the language. In that frame, the Kurdish literary products are questioned, as well as their organization by the actors, inside a national identity in permanent re-production. Therefore we examine in which way, inside the conflict, a Kurdish literary field, with its plural territories, will emerge and get autonomous; and which are the literary and non-literary objectives aimed at by that field

Full textBahrain is a small island in the Arabo-Persian Gulf striving to stay in the race on international level so as to have the right and the feeling to exist. To do so, both the government and the population devote a lot of energy, creativity and innovation. A large-scale linguistic reform promoting French in a non-francophone country having no historical bind with France is a challenge in itself. Never done before, this reform sets a precedent in the Middle-East but also on a worldwide scale since very few experiments of this kind have been tried and never in such a context. Having been implemented for five years, can one refer to it as successful ? The sociocultural, historical, geographical, economical and political features of the Bahraini people make them a case apart which has become a case study for any other attempt to introduce the French language in a non-francophone country or region. To understand the subtleties and the stakes of such a reform, it is essential in a first phase to interpret, to decipher the past of Bahrain and its people so as to grasp the characteristics that make it possible for the population to support the reform. The next goal consists in analysing the intrinsic perspicacity of this reform and its inherent features so as to contemplate its implementation in other places
