Full textTaking into account abilities in wages policies is a key condition for the success of management policies based on abilities. This research work analyses the links between abilities management and compensation policies, and proposes five theoretical models for skill based pay systems. Moreover, compensation appears to be very relevant to call in question ideas and practices attached to abilities management identity and objectives. Among others, we evidence that the concept of ability is not as new as it is often said. This focus on the novelty feature of the concept leads to misunderstanding the authentical base of abilities management. In fact, this management tool should be used as to respond to the organisational increasing complexity. We hereby denounce the opposition between abilities and job. The job, whatever characteristics, from the most rigid to the most flexible, represents the foundation of abilities management and the compulsory reference for assessment in order to recognise abilities

Full textThe minimim wage is sipposed, when it is setting above the market-clearing wage, to reduce the employment opportunities of low-productivity workers and the profitability of some labour intensive activities, especially in the services sector. However. These critics has to be moderated. The theoritical analysis shows that the minimum wage disemployment effects are partly ambiguous because of the complexity of wageamployment relationship. In fact, the minimum may have adverse or favorable effects on employment. The foreign empirical evidences confirms this indeterminations. They lead to inconclusive results and do not solve the questions that theory it self left unanswered. This is due to the contradictory results of recnet north-american studies which have found no negative impact of have revealed a positive effect. The french empirical research, especially interestated in the youth case, strengthens this uncertainty. It suggest that the minimum wage (smic) hasn't any significant and discernable impact on youth labor market. The additional estimations we made over the 1968-1990 period lead to similar conclusions. They indicate a strong and high impact of smic on youth unemployment, but the latter do not conform with the low and weak impact of smic on youth employment

Full textFor the past ten years or so, companies have substantially changed their way of determining wage increases granted to technicians and workers. The systematic collective wage increase method, associated with a typical career path mainly based on seniority, is slowly giving way to the individualised wage increase method, associated with the possibilities of promotion for wage-earners chosen for their qualifications and their potential for adaptability. This thesis seeks to demonstrate how performance related pay principles are conceived with a view to encouraging a specific form of labour organisation. Their content constitutes a tangible representation of the extant conceptual relationship within the company between the individual work and the productive efficiency of a production process. Work assessment is based on a number of criteria that define a required performance assimilated to a prescription. Wage prescription is one of the main functions of the performance remuneration principle as is the motivation it is intended to generate and the control it operates by means of the assessment. Hence, the wage principle is determined in close relation to labour organisation rules. One essential function of wages in productive organisations is to direct labour force availability towards the valorisation of performancecriteria founded on the productivity of a given work process

Full textDeveloped there is more than ten years, the Wage Setting - Price Setting models have contributed to the debate on the reasons of unemployment. This work proposes to draw up an assessment of the contributions and limits of the concept of equilibrium unemployment based on these models. After a presentation of the various concepts of equilibrium unemployment, we expose the three major contributions of this concept deduced from the relations Wage Setting and Price Setting. : it makes possible to exceed the shortcomings of the PHILLIPS Curve ; it contributes to create original indicators such as the replacement rate ; it is a reliable tool for analysing economic policy. However, as all the equilibrium concepts refering to medium term, it contains a great normative component. It is possible to chek this point when the period used to estimate the level of the equilibrium unemployment is longer. This problem can be extend in economics to all equilibrium concepts refering to the medium term

Full textThis kaleckian thesis emphasises the inconsistency of current wage moderation policies in the simultaneous achievement of price stability and full employment in the euro area. The main idea defended for this purpose is the following: wage moderation policies, which underlie the existence of a low inflation regime in the euro area, are not prone to solve the unemployment problem because of the insufficient level of effective demand. In the euro area context, three arguments can be put forward to support the implementation of a progressive income policy: (1) the openness degree is low, (2) the wage share is at an historically low level, and (3) the financialisation process has decreased the sensitivity of investment to profit margins. This macroeconomic analysis results in the following economic policy recommendations. To reduce the NAIRU, the European commission should encourage the national governments to increase the wage share in national income through taxation, in order to avoid a wage-price spiral in the euro area. In conformity with the analysis developed in this work, the tax reforms should furthermore be aimed at : (1) redistributing income from rentiers to workers, and (2) inciting the firms to invest more in productive capacity and research-development than in financial markets

Full textThe aim of this research is to provide a theoretical and methodological framework in support of the proposition evoked by j. Hicks (1965) which states that development economics has no object in itself. To elucidate this proposition, we assess different approaches by using the wage relation question. The latter is exemplary in forging the image of the irreducible specificity of the third world. Our evaluation follows a "holistic' critical method consistent with the duhem - quine thesis. The fist part endeavours to reveal the argumental inconsistencies and demonstrative shortcoming of the various methods by close reference to their proper terms and through the function they use in encapsulating the commercial status of the wage relation. We then proceed to closely scrutinise the intelligibility mode that presides over the specificity of the wage relationl we hihlight the weaknesses that have tainted the treatment given over to historical processes, the explanatory path that has been reatined, and the normative presuppositions
