Abstract:
Today the large scale introduction of biomass gasification is hampered by health, safety and environmental issues which present a major barrier in the deployment of this technology. The condensate in particular resulting from producer gas cooling before use in gas engines is highly toxic and carcinogenic which, if not adequately controlled, can lead to detrimental impacts on human health and the environment. The study was therefore aimed at assessment of pollution levels resulting from biomass gasification organic condensates. The study involved assessing the concentration of polycyclic aromat

Most of the African population is dependent on biomass for cooking and heating, with most of the combustion happening in low efficiency stoves in unvented kitchens. The resulting high emissions are compounded by ingress from poor outdoor air in a context of poor emissions controls. The situation is dire in slum households where homes are crowded and space is limited, pushing households to cook in the same room that is used for sleeping. Three methods are used to analyse the relationships between asthma and pollution levels in Prince George. The first is the spectral analysis approach, which concentrates on the spectra of the pollusion level series and the asthma counts series, their cross spectra, their coherency, and a measure of the linear relationship between them. The other two methods are what we term the "generalized harmonic process" and the "generalized autoregressive approach", which generalize the traditional harmonic process and autoregressive model and allow us to analyse time series with less restricted distribut
