Analytical techniques were developed for the detection of inorganic arsenic (As(III) and As(V)), monomethylarsenic (MMA) and dimethylarsenic (DMA) in water, pore waters, suspended particles and bed sediments of the Humber Estuary, Thames Estuary and the southern North Sea. Abstract:

Sea water samples were collected from different sampling stations along the Lebanese coast in the summer of 1994. Chemical, biological and physical analysis were conducted to assess the recreational water quality in Lebanon.<br>Some 125 samples were then analyzed for the presence of Cadmium and Mercury by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Cadmium content, holding a mean 0.77 $ mu$g/L, was generally low for most areas with only a few elevated readings in Tripoli (1.89 $ mu$g/L), Checca (1.83 $ mu$g/L), Kaslik (0.79 $ mu$g/L), Beirut (1.19 $ mu$g/L) and Ramlet Al-Bayda (1.77 $ mu$g/L). A new high-resolution climatology and volumetric ÃÂ¸-S census (ÃÂÃÂ¸ = 0.1ÃÂ°C, ÃÂS = 0.01) is constructed for the Ross Sea. Property maps (potential temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen) along 40 depth levels and 21 neutral density (ÃÂ³n) surfaces are analyzed. A major inflow of Antarctic Surface Water (AASW) is observed branching off the westward-flowing coastal current near Cape Colbeck. Historical data of sea ice concentration in Canadian waters are analysed using projections methods (Principal Component Analysis, Singular Value Decomposition, Canonical Correlation Analysis and Projection on Latent Structures) to identify the main patterns of evolution in the sea ice cover. Abstract:

Samples of suspended particulate matter (SPM) and sediment were collected from the Humber coastal zone during six seasonal and inter-annual surveys (November 1993 - July 1995) on board RRS Challenger as part of the NERC Land Ocean Interaction Study (LOIS) initiative. Concentrations of Ni, Zn, Fe and Mn, extracted using a 1M HCl digest, were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry techniques. Particulate Ni and Zn both exhibited a pronounced seasonal distribution in the Humber coastal zone. Significant metal-salinity relationships were obtained for both metals indicating the Humber Estuary
