This paper is devoted to the problems of scientific definitions concerning the study of the Sarmatian animal style art. This art is represented with the gold decorative objects which often ornamented with colour inlays of different shapes, mostly made of turquoise often used together with other minerals. This art shows the specific features to distinct it from the phenomenon of the Scythian animal style. Decoration of the artistic wares with colour inlays reflects a specific aesthetic tastes and typical method of jewelry of the Sarmatian era. This polychromic effect used to be considered as a

A pair of almost life-sized polychrome stucco sculptures attributed to the Seljuq period in Iran was closely examined prior to the reinstallation of the Islamic galleries at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2011. Iconographical analysis of their crowns and other accoutrements suggests that they represent a pair of royal figures that were once part of a larger decorative program dated to 1050–1150. Given the itinerant nature of the Seljuq court, it is proposed that this stucco decoration was created for a temporary reception structure, or kūshk, probably in western Iran. While scientific analy

Abstract The cytogenetic effect of the insecticide methamidophos (0,S-dimethylphosphoroamidothiolate) was studied in mouse bone marrow and mouse spleen cells in culture. In vivo the ability of methamidophos to induce micronuclei and sisterchromatid exchange in mouse bone marrow was investigated. In vitro mouse spleen cells in culture were used to assess the ability of the insecticide to induce chromosomal aberrations and sister chromatid exchange. Three different routes of application for the pure insecticide were tested so as to cover the different possibilities for human exposure to the inse

Abstract Antigen presentation is a critical feature of adaptive immunity and essential in self versus nonself discrimination as well as in stimulating immune responses against pathogens. Dendritic cells (DCs) are considered to be the most potent antigen-presenting cells and have long been recognized as key regulators of the immune system. Because DCs are such crucial cells of the immune system, an extensive assessment of their quality in infected individuals is critical. Therefore, we have standardized a unique DC cocktail containing 12 different functional DC markers using an LSR II polychrom

Abstract Between June 5 and 7, 2012, the menorah relief of the Arch of Titus in Rome was subjected to UV-VIS spectrometry analysis by the Arch of Titus Digital Restoration Project. This technical report details the methods by which UV-VIS-spectrometry of the menorah relief revealed traces of yellow ochre as a paint layer applied directly to the stone surface of a menorah arm and the front of the menorah base. UV-VIS spectrometry is a non-destructive technique used to identify colorants. The surface to be examined is briefly illuminated by white light. From the reflected light this produces, th

Abstract The chemokine receptor CXCR6, also known as BONZO and STRL133, is a seven transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor, primarily expressed on a subset of T effector cells, NK and NKT cells. Initially characterized as a co-receptor for HIV and SIV, studies of the interaction with CXCL16 have elucidated the important role of CXCR6 in leukocyte chemotaxis. This study focused on the kinetic effects of IL-2 and IL-15 on CXCR6 expression and cytokine production by lymphocytes in vitro. In Maupassant's short stories, as psychologically distressing events proliferate and his protagonists descend into madness, polychromatic modernity fades away to reveal a stark world of black and white. Such monochromism also engenders an anxiety-ridden reading experience. Black and white draw our attention beyond intradiegetic events to the diegesis itself, where Maupassant's play on textual shape and punctuation gestures towards the non-signifying white page beneath the comfortingly signifying black-ink words. This article explores Maupassant's dissolution of the spectrum, as he moves beyond
