Abstract:
The effect of plasticizer (polydimethylsiloxanol) and neat (SiO2) or modified (having amine functional groups) silica (A-SiO2) on morphology, thermal, mechanical, and rheological properties of PLA/TPS blends compatibilized by maleated PLA (MPLA) was investigated. Toughened PLA/MPLA/TPS (60/10/30) blend containing 3 wt.% of plasticizer and various contents (1, 3, or 5 wt.%) of silica were prepared in a corotating twin-screw extruder. From SEM, it is clear that plasticized PLA/MPLA/TPS blend continuous porous structure is highly related to the silica content and its functionality. The results in

Abstract:
Epoxy structural adhesives have strong adhesion, minimal shrinkage and high thermal and chemical resistance. However, despite these excellent properties, their high-energy impact resistance should be improved to satisfy the increasing demands of the automotive industry. For this reason, we used four types of silica nanoparticles with different surface groups, such as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), hydroxyl, epoxy and amine groups, as toughening agents and examined their effect on the glass transition temperature (Tg), crosslinking density and phase separation of epoxy structural adhesives. AbstractAtomic Force Microscope (AFM) was used to perform surface force measurements in contact mode to investigate surface properties of model systems at the nanoscale. Model systems were considered and compared. The first one was related to systems of controlled chemical surface properties with identical mechanical properties (chemically modified silicon substrates with hydroxyl, amine, methyl and ester functional groups). The second one deals with model polymer networks (Cross-linked polydimethylsiloxane or PDMS) of controlled mechanical properties and identical surface chemistry. The third
