Abstract:
The development of high-strength ultra-thin glass is becoming very interesting for the building sector due to its remarkable mechanical characteristics. This lightweight and rather strong material, better known for smartphone screen applications, is currently being researched and developed for building solutions such as façade adaptive panels, high performance windows and protective layers in interior architecture. However, ultra-thin glass is also quite flexible to make it a reliable and safe building material. Therefore, one of the main challenges is to find a way to stiffen it. This thesis

Abstract:
This study addresses the flexural performance of sandwich panels composed of a polyurethane foam core and glass fibre-reinforced polymer (GFRP) skins. Panels with and without GFRP ribs connecting the skins have been studied. While the motivation of the study was to develop new insulated cladding panels for buildings, most of the work and findings are also applicable to other potential applications such as flooring, roofing and light-weight decking. The study comprises experimental, numerical, and analytical investigations. The experimental program included three phases. Phase I is a comprehens

Because of it, they are used in many applications, like: aircraft/space sector, automotive sector, medical applications and in many sports. Composites applied to the fuselage of airplanes, for example, are subjected frequently to low velocity multi-impacts, resultant from collision with birds, rocks or even ice stones. The low-energy impacts affect significantly the residual st

Abstract:
The properties of stochastic fibrous materials like paper and nanowebs are highly dependent on those fibers from which the network structure is made. This work contributes to a better understanding of the effect of fiber properties on the network structural properties, using an original 3D fibrous material model with experimental validation, and its application to different fibrous materials used in reinforced Eucalyptus office paper and nanofibrous networks. To establish the relationships between the fiber and the final structural material properties, an experimental laboratorial plan has bee
