Abstract:
Asplenium listeri C.Chr. has been considered endemic to Christmas Island and is one of only two fern species listed as Critically Endangered under Australia’s Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. Its status as a distinct species has been questioned because of morphological similarity to the widespread A. polyodon G.Forst., which also occurs on Christmas Island. Molecular analyses revealed that A. listeri and plants attributed to A. polyodon from coastal limestone in New Caledonia and Vanuatu share the same rbcL, trnL–trnF and rps4–trnS haplotype and that other samples of A

The fern species Polystichum polyodon Ching (1936: 93) of Dryopteridaceae is endemic to North East India (Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya) and expected to occur in Myanmar and South West China (Ebihara et al. 2012). Wallich (1832) first named it as Polypodium polyodon Wallich (1832: 241) nom. nud.; Christensen (1906: 555; 1930) considered it as synonym of Polystichum hookerianum (Presl 1836: 77) Christensen (1906: 582). Ching (1936) separated it as P. polyodon and recently Ebihara et al. (2012: 119) placed it in Phanerophlebiopsis Ching (1965: 115) as Phanerophlebiopsis polyodon (Ching)

Ray-finned fishes (Actinopterygii) are the dominant vertebrate group today (+30 000 species, predominantly teleosts), with great morphological diversity, including their dentitions. How dental morphological variation evolved is best addressed by considering a range of taxa across actinopterygian phylogeny; here we examine the dentition of Polyodon spathula (American paddlefish), assigned to the basal group Acipenseriformes. Although teeth are present and functional in young individuals of Polyodon , they are completely absent in adults. Our current understanding of developmental genes operatin

Abstract:
The reproductive biology of the paddlefish (Polyodon spathula) was studied on specimens collected from Lake Cumberland, Kentucky, from September 1983 to July 1984. A total of 500 specimens was studied. Reproductive activity was observed on 17 April 1984 in the Big South Fork of Lake Cumberland. Seasonal differences were observed in sex ratios with more males than females occurring in the winter and spring. Movements were observed throughout the year, but these were accentuated prior to reproduction in the spring. Lake Cumberland paddlefish became sexually mature by Age Group V in males and VII

Age and growth parameters of paddlefish from Lake Cumberland were investigated from September 1983 through July 1984. Sex ratios observed were 60 percent male and 40 percent female. Fish from the Cumberland River exhibited a greater mean body length than those from other parts of the lake, and females were longer than males. Urobatis jamaicensis, Acipenser baerii, and Polyodon spathula were used due to accessibility.
