An investigation to study factors controlling the structure and properties of binary- and ternary-phase polypropylene (PP) composites containing ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR) and glass beads has been carried out. While the mechanical tests included tensile and impact measurements at ambient temperature, and a fracture toughness test based on the J-integral method carried out at -20 oC. The use of thermoplastic olefins like polypropylene is currently growing in the automotive industry. However, the increase of wastes from end of life vehicles represents a threat to our environment. Mechanical recycling is the most acceptable and ecological method. The variability of thermal expansion coefficients during the molding of plastics causes the development of frozen thermal stresses in the molded parts. Also, the distribution of thermal expansion coefficients of the material in the molded part plays an important role in controlling shrinkage and warpage. In turn, the distribution of linear thermal expansion coefficients (LTECs) depends on the distributions of crystallinity and orientation in the part. In the case of fibre reinforced polymers, the distributions of fibre concentration and orientation are also important.<br>In this project, a mod

Isotropic polymers lack sufficient strength and stiffness for many engineering applications. In order to improve these properties polymers can be filled with structural reinforcements such as glass or natural fibres. Composite systems, by definition, must employ at least two phases with different material properties. With the introduction of careful processing routes, it has been proven possible to create a fibrous, two phase composite, in which both are polypropylene. P

One of the recent developments in composite technology in South Africa is the increasing use of natural fiber materials in the manufacture of plastic products. Most of the previous work on natural fiber-reinforced composites has focused on sisal fiber as it was commercially available. In this study, the mechanical and thermal properties of composites made with locally produced hemp fibers, were compared with composites made with hemp fibers produced in France. New commercial polypropylene random copolymer was used as matrix because it can be processed at lower temperatures when compared with o
