Abstract:
Oyster mushroom growers are generally confused about the scientific basis of the cultivation technology with regard to the best bag opening method after a spawn run. The present study was undertaken to find out the effect of four different methods of bag opening on yield, benefit cost ratio (BCR) and biological efficiency of oyster mushrooms during November, 2020 to March, 2021. The results indicated that treatment-2 (retaining the polythene bag for the entire cultivation period) exhibited significantly the highest yield (1644.61 g bed-1) followed by treatment-3 (opening top part of the polyth

Nepal produces large amount of bananas annually but suffers significant losses owing to inappropriate postharvest management. The objective of the study was to determine the influence of polythene and fiber bag packaging, and calcium chloride treatment on bananas quality and shelf life. The two-factor experiment involved treatments that included bananas wrapped in a polythene and fiber bag of size 60 cm × 60 cm, and an open space, combined with calcium chloride concentrations of 1%, 3%, and 5%, along with untreated fruits kept in open space without using any bag as a control. Polythene bag production is easier and cost effective as compared to its eco-friendly alternatives. Paper bags are the closest economical alternative to the polythene bag. This project tries to address several issues that makes paper bag production economically incompetent with polythene bags. Initially the paper bag making process was a manual process, which involves the process of gluing the three sides and cutting the bags one by one, which required a

Generally, plastic is made up of non-biodegradable chemicals i.e. polyolefin, polyester, and polyurethanes. This is hardly surprising since the use of polythene bags has infiltrated all sectors of economy, agriculture, consumer goods, and especially in packaging, where polythene is increasingly replacing jute, paper, wood, and glass. Polythene bags can release harmful chemicals into the surrounding agricultural soil, which can then seep into ground water or other surrounding water sources. This can cause serious harm to the species that drink this water. Unlike natural organic material they do

Perhaps the most striking observable change brought about by chemistry as applied to the everyday world is in the texture of objects. Until the early twentieth century objects were manufactured from metal, wood, and animal and plant fibres. Today, synthetic polymers, in the vernacular ‘plastics’, are ubiquitous and have changed not only the appearance of the world but also its feel. Polymers (from the Greek words for ‘many parts’) are made by stringing together small molecules, the ‘monomers’, into long chains or extensive networks. Thus, polyethylene (less formally polythene) is a chain of li
