Nella poetica di Vinicio Capossela la geografia non è soltanto questione di meridiani e paralleli, ma è soprattutto quella che ognuno di noi si costruisce attraverso i viaggi, i racconti, la creatività: le strade e le vicende della nostra vita sono secondo lui «come le colonne delle cartine antiche, fanno la nostra geografia». Una geografia fatta di luoghi reali per lui significativi - per esempio Calitri, terra d'origine di suo padre, o Milano, città in cui vive - ma anche di mondi inventati, abitati da creature prodigiose e miti letterari, che tutti insieme formano il canto “polytropo” (multiforme) di Capossela. Un canto permeato da un perenne sentimento di clandestinità e da un desiderio insoddisfatto di “barrio”, di casa. Il sentimento dell'assenza è profondamente legato alla biografia del cantautore e alla sua geografia personale, ma anche al mondo affascinante e nascosto delle musiche da cui egli trae ispirazione, le cosiddette “musiche dell'Assenza” o “musiche d'Altrove”, in senso sia spaziale che temporale. In questo lavoro trovano spazio principalmente il tango e il rebetiko e le implicazioni culturali e linguistiche che essi hanno avuto nell'immaginario di Capossela, il quale ha riadattato alcune canzoni di questi due generi; per quanto riguarda il castigliano attraverso la singolare pratica della “traduzione ad orecchio”, mentre per quanto riguarda il greco riscrivendo completamente i testi. In particolar modo sarà descritto l'incontro di Capossela con la Grecia e con il rebetiko, che ha dato vita ad una fase inedita e particolarmente feconda della sua produzione, con la nascita del disco “Rebetiko Gymnastas”, il libro “Tefteri” e il docu-film “Indebito”, creato in collaborazione con il regista Andrea Segre.

O Estudo sobre afluentes e efluentes da ETAR de Frielas integrou testes ecotoxicológicos e parâmetros físico-químicos relevantes para o tratamento biológico, para avaliar o impacto da toxicidade no processo de lamas ativadas. Nos testes PolyTox, os afluentes urbanos (la Campanha) apresentaram maior potencial de efeitos tóxicos do que os afluentes industriais (2' Campanha). A evolução da toxicidade afluente ao processo de lamas activadas acompanhou a evolução da qualidade do efluente tratado. A avaliação do potencial tóxico de amostras de afluentes e efluentes para o meio receptor a jusante da ETAR, através de bioensaios qualitativos com D. magna, mostrou que o Interceptor do Rio da Costa apresentou maior potencial tóxico do que o Emissário da E.N.8. O potencial tóxico de amostras do Efluente da Decantação Secundária releva a importância do pré-tratamento de efluentes industriais previamente à descarga na rede. A modelação QSAR de compostos orgânicos identificados nos afluentes revelou 17 compostos tóxicos e/ou persistentes, potencialmente danosos para o meio hídrico receptor a jusante da ETAR. Os testes ecotoxicológicos mostraram ser um complemento valioso para as ETAR na monitorização de afluentes complexos e permitem apoiar a tomada de decisão com vista à protecção dos sistemas de tratamento e dos meios receptores.

Abstract:
This thesis deals with the exact solution of large-scale minimum bisection problems via a semidefinite relaxation in a branch-and-cut framework. After reviewing known results on the underlying bisection cut polytope a study of new facet-defining inequalities is presented. They are derived from the known knapsack tree inequalities. We investigate strengthenings based on the new cluster weight polytope and present polynomial separation algorithms for special cases. The dual of the semidefinite relaxation of the minimum bisection problem is tackled in its equivalent form as an eigenvalue optimisation problem with the spectral bundle method. Implementational details regarding primal heuristics, branching rules, so-called support extensions for cutting planes and warm start are presented. We conclude with a computational study in which we show that our approach is competetive to state-of-the-art implementations using linear programming or semidefinite programming relaxations
Diese Dissertation befasst sich mit der exakten Lösung großer Minimum Bisection Probleme über eine semidefinite Relaxierung in einem Branch-and-Cut Zugang. Nachdem bekannte Resultate zum zugrundeliegenden Bisection Cut Polytop dargestellt wurden, wird eine Studie neuer facettendefinierender Ungleichungen präsentiert. Diese werden von den bekannten Knapsack Tree Ungleichungen abgeleitet. Wir untersuchen Verstärkungen basierend auf dem neuen Cluster Weight Polytop und zeigen polynomiale Separierungsalgorithmen für Spezialfälle. Die Duale der semidefiniten Relaxierung des Minumum Bisection Problems wird in ihrer äquivalenten Form als Eigenwertoptimierungsproblem mit dem Spektralen Bündelverfahren bearbeitet. Details der Implementierung bezüglich primaler Heuristiken, Branchingregeln, sogenannter Supporterweiterungen für die Schnittebenen und Warmstart werden präsentiert. Wir beenden die Arbeit mit einer numerischen Studie, in der wir zeigen, dass unser Zugang konkurrenzfähig zu aktuellen Implementationen basierend auf linearen und semidefiniten Relaxierungen ist

Abstract:
In this thesis, three parts, each with several chapters, are respectively devoted to hydrostatic, viscous and inertial fluids theories and applications. In the hydrostatics part, the classical Maclaurin spheroids theory is generalized, for the first time, to a more realistic multi-layer model, which enables the studies of some gravity problems and direct numerical simulations of flows in fast rotating spheroidal cavities. As an application of the figure theory, the zonal flow in the deep atmosphere of Jupiter is investigated for a better understanding of the Jovian gravity field. High viscosity flows, for example Stokes flows, occur in a lot of processes involving low-speed motions in fluids. Microorganism swimming is such typical a case. A fully three dimensional analytic solution of incompressible Stokes equation is derived in the exterior domain of an arbitrarily translating and rotating prolate spheroid, which models a large family of microorganisms such as cocci bacteria. The solution is then applied to the magnetotactic bacteria swimming problem and good consistency has been found between theoretical predictions and laboratory observations of the moving patterns of such bacteria under magnetic fields. In the analysis of dynamics of planetary fluid systems, which are featured by fast rotation and very small viscosity effects, three dimensional fully nonlinear numerical simulations of Navier-Stokes equations play important roles. A precession driven flow in a rotating channel is studied by the combination of asymptotic analyses and fully numerical simulations. Various results of laminar and turbulent flows are thereby presented. Computational fluid dynamics requires massive computing capability. To make full use of the power of modern high performance computing facilities, a C++ finite-element analysis code is under development based on PETSc platform. The code and data structures will be elaborated, along with the presentations of some preliminary results.

Abstract:
Les processus de blocage ou d'inhibition des successions végétales sont liées aux traits de vie particuliers de certaines espèces. Le modèle employé pour étudier les implications de la clonalité sur la dynamique de recolonisation post-incendie des landes armoricaines, est la bryophyte Polytrichum commune Hedw. La mise en oeuvre d'outils complémentaires, suivis de terrain, cultures expérimentales, génétique isoenzymatique et modélisation ont permis de réaliser une triple approche visant à analyser la variabilité morphologique, la variabilité génétique et la variabilité des effectifs de la population. L'approche morphologique a montré que les colonies du genre Polytrichum présentent une auto-organisation correspondant à la production rythmique de cohortes de modules. Sur les quatre années étudiées, ces cohortes se superposent et accroissent le diamètre de la colonie. Les croissances horizontales et verticales concomitantes surviennent en deux périodes dans l'année et permettent à la plante de saturer efficacement l'espace à contre-temps par rapport aux phanérogames. L'approche génétique montre que P. Commune, organisme haploïde à multiplication végétative, a une variabilité génétique comparable à celle des plantes ne possédant pas ces caractères. De plus, la variabilité génétique de quatre populations de clones d'âge connu (4, 6 10 et 20 ans) ne change pas avec le temps. Cette estimation indirecte des mécanismes de sélection entre les clones montre que cette espèce ne subit ni exclusion compétitive ni établissement de nouveaux génotypes (Stratège ISR). L'approche modélisatrice associe un modèle architectural et un modèle de dynamique de population modulaire. Elle restitue plus d'importance aux contraintes architecturales internes dans l'étude de la forme des colonies clonales. Elle démontre l'implication de l'angle de ramification dans l'existence d'un mécanisme d'auto-rajeunissement central. Ce mécanisme, complémentaire à celui de la latence pourrait fonctionner chez certaines plantes sympodiales. Le travail sur les contraintes exercées par les modules les uns sur les autres au sein du même organisme a permis de proposer une hypothèse au maintien d'une densité élevée. Pour les organismes clonaux le succès reproducteur du génotype ne dépend pas forcément de la capture de ressources par chaque module, mais peut être assuré par une saturation plus efficace de l'espace. Les recherches conduites conjointement sur les bryophytes et sur les plantes clonales ont permis de proposer une hypothèse quant au maintien de la diversité génétique chez ces organismes. Elle résiderait dans le fait que les plantes clonales tamponnent aussi bien les contraintes biotiques que les contraintes abiotiques. Moins soumises aux pressions de sélection exercées par le milieu et les autres organismes, leur perte de variabilité génétique est réduite. La clonalité fondée sur une forte capacité à réitérer, une simplicité architecturale des modules et une grande plasticité de l'organisme, est un mécanisme qui confère à Polytrichum commune une aptitude compétitive particulière. C'est le trait de vie principal qui lui permet de se maintenir dans les landes armoricaines plus de 20 années après un feu d'humus.

Abstract:
A spectral graph realization is an embedding of a finite simple graph into Euclidean space that is constructed from the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the graph's adjacency matrix. It has previously been observed that some polytopes can be reconstructed from their edge-graphs by taking the convex hull of a spectral realization of this edge-graph. These polytopes, which we shall call spectral polytopes, have remarkable rigidity and symmetry properties and are a source for many open questions. In this thesis we aim to further the understanding of this phenomenon by exploring the geometric and combinatorial properties of spectral polytopes on several levels. One of our central questions is whether already weak forms of symmetry can be a sufficient reason for a polytope to be spectral. To answer this, we derive a geometric criterion for the identification of spectral polytopes and apply it to prove that indeed all polytopes of combined vertex- and edge-transitivity are spectral, admit a unique reconstruction from the edge-graph and realize all the symmetries of this edge-graph. We explore the same questions for graph realizations and find that realizations of combined vertex- and edge-transitivity are not necessarily spectral. Instead we show that we require a stronger form of symmetry, called distance-transitivity. Motivated by these findings we take a closer look at the class of edge-transitive polytopes, for which no classification is known. We state a conjecture for a potential classification and provide complete classifications for several sub-classes, such as distance-transitive polytopes and edge-transitive polytopes that are not vertex-transitive. In particular, we show that the latter class contains only polytopes of dimension d <= 3. As a side result we obtain the complete classification of the vertex-transitive zonotopes and a new characterization for root systems.
