Abstract:
ABSTRACTBalinese pop music appeared in 1970’s but its industrialization refers to the development of the involved industries which began in 1990s. The industrialization is characterized by aspects of economy, technology, and new culture in music. All the aspects are related to each other. The economy can be seen in the growing capital in such a business. Technology is in the use of digital tecnology substituting the analog. New culture in music is shown in the more awareness of the Balinese people in enjoying Balinese pop songs. The Balinese are no longer shy singing such songs. This literature review uses techniques of qualitative data analysis. The result of the study shows that the industrialization consists of production, distribution, and consumption of the music. The production is created by the cultural power (musicians) and the capital power (capital owners). The distribution of the Balinese pop music in the current marketing is done by using the support of media power, particularly the electronic media, namely radio (since 1990s and even earlier), especially television (since 2002), in this case Bali TV. The production and distribution enables massive consumption in the Balinese society. The consumption is concerned with the existence of a new musical culture in the society. Although the industrialization tends to be capitalistic, Balinese artists or the musicians can earn their living through the Balinese pop songs. It is not a modern capitalism but postmodern one as the music relies on the existence of the Balinese society and their culture. Keywords: Balinese pop music, industrialization, production, distribution, consumption.

Abstract:
A look into song identity and the building blocks of music through a process of analysing five different punk songs and then repackaging them into a modern pop production. After completing these new versions, I compared them to their original recordings and discovered that there are more similarities between the two genres than one might initially think, and that each song’s identity was preserved on slightly different levels and in different forms. I discuss my analyses and process in terms of both music theory and non-musical descriptions, leading to generally positive results. Each song was recognizable, but I discovered that some identities were stronger than others because of factors such as original arrangement, era of release or differences in experience from person to person.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This thesis discusses the use of pop songs in narrative films, with particular attention paid to their role in characterisation. My argument concerns the potential for pop to retain its specificity as a certain type of music whilst it carries out functions normally attributed to a composed score. Many commentators have assumed that, because a song may be known before it is used in a film, its narrative meanings are "pre-packaged". I combine an appreciation of pop music's propensity to come to a film already 'known' with an attempt to demonstrate how individual narratives ask songs to perform different affective roles. It is my contention that pop music's quality of 'knownness' is fundamental to its narrative affect in films, without, however, pre-determining that affect. I argue my case through close textual analysis, discussing the relationship between real-life pop stars' musical personas and the film characters they are asked to play, as well as offering numerous examples of songs without an on-screen performer becoming involved in processes of filmic narration.

Dairianathan, Eugene, Larry Francis Hilarian, Peter Stead, Chee Hoo Lum, and Hoon Hong Ng. Learning through popular music, lessons for the general music programme syllabus in Singapore. National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, 2024. https://doi.org/10.32658/10497/27422.

Abstract:
This project sought to investigate the identity, role and function of popular music within classroom-based education in Singapore. Popular music is characterised by: (i) lnterdisclplinarity (music, dance, poetry, theatre, etc); (ii) It suffuses the lives of school-going youth in their out-of-school curriculum. (iii) Skill acquisition is frequently gained through more informal learning than is usual in institutional settings (Green, 2002). (iv) Participation in popular music by various communities seems to cut across ethnic, religious and age boundaries, which makes popular music participation an interesting study in social integration. (v) Engaging in popular music potentially provides students life-long engagement The impact of popular music in the classroom has not been fully explored. Creating, performing and responding to popular music genres arguably act as an apt medium of and for self expression considering the complex nature of an ever-shifting demographic mix and strategies to bring about more effective social integration across communities-of-practice (Wenger 1998) engaging the later cosmopolitan society in Singapore. The GMP (2008) document supports the value of popular music beginning with musical skills of composing, improvising and recreating extending to identity formation and multiplicity in identity negotiation in group dynamics (MOE 2008, pp. 7-10). Current broader educational aims are to develop creative, imaginative and socio-culturally well-tempered individuals and popular music has an important educational role to play in this respect. Dairianathan and Lum (2010) have discovered how popular musics re/iterate their place in the music curriculum for music as lived and living space. Secondary factors crucial to this research are: (a) to examine the place of popular music in local public and international schools across Singapore, (b) to draw out the intrinsic and extrinsic motivations for school-going youth to be engaged in popular music and (c) to critically examine popular music immersion in relation to the objectives established in the GMP syllabus (MOE 2008).

McDonald, Sophia. ECMI Minorities Blog. Stirring the Pot: Kneecap, Radical Politics and Nurturing the Irish Language. European Centre for Minority Issues, October 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.53779/erkp1374.

Abstract:
Northern Irish hip hop group Kneecap have been causing controversy as they have rose to fame. At the core of their music is the fight to keep the Irish language alive. They have made waves in music scenes across the world and in doing so, they have given young Northern Irish people a voice when representation has become so important. However, they satirise Unionist politics and for some, stir up painful memories of violence which plagued Northern Ireland up until the 1990s. This blogpost explores Kneecap’s provocative politics and their fight for Irish language rights in Northern Ireland via controversial performances, imagery and lyrics. Speaking to the post-peace generation, Kneecap have been injecting energy into Irish speaking youth, but is their approach making new progress or turning back the clock?

Abstract:
Por fim, Acoustics – A Textbook for Engineers and Physicists (Vols.
