"Which simulacrum of Pope does the Paulista press media build when showing us the leaders of the Roman Catholic Apostolic Church after its respective elections?" That problematic guides the present dissertation. Using a corpus from "O Estado de S. Paulo" newspaper pages and the "Folha de São Paulo" in a 135 period of years, it is possible to analyze how this media plans a typology confronting its own values with the ones from the Catholic Church, which shows the thematic role of the Pope. The hypothesis is that the newspaper shows ways of presence for each Pope according to their own interests, trying to deceive the image of the elected Cardinal. Still, in a new perspective of the new theory that despite the restrictions of the Church, the simulacrum carries a way of being in the World deceived by individual characteristics from each Cardinal that is elected - in a syncretism of destinators. This investigation aims to deepen the reflection about language syncretism in the truths of the analyzed pages. On one hand, the Church as a destinator schedules the thematic route for the Popes. This route is lived by one Cardinal, himself as a destinator. In the Saint Peter Basilica balcony, these routes unify themselves and are projected for the World. Captured by the media, the scene is reorganized in another way through the newspaper pages by the language syncretism - verbal, visual and spacial. The theoretical foundation is the Discursive Semiotic, created by Algirdas Greimas and its unfolding in the Social Semiotics by Eric Landowski. It is taken to consideration the Plastic Semiotic, organized by Jean Marie Floch and build on by Ana Claudia Oliveira, especially in the studies of esthesia that make us feel the new Pope. The results aim to the possibility of a link between the simulacrum typologies built by the medias with interaction and risks, showing in the media projection the Catholic leaders and that there is a predominance in the hazards of accidents that reveals a dynamic by visibility. The new is, in fact, a figurativization of the new that remains in its depths with the intentionality and propagations of the Church's old speech

Full textThis work examines and critically evaluates what the author considers to be the chief concerns of Pope's verse portraits, and particularly attempts to trace the manifestations of these concerns in the formal, rather than argumentative or polemic, qualities of Pope's writing. The works selected have accordingly been primarily those in which the density of poetic description of character was sufficient to indicate implicit qualities of psychological interest, sometimes at remarkable variance with more express argument of contemporary theories. Starting from an initial agreement with Dr Johnson concerning Pope's shortcomings as a philosopher, the author chooses works for detailed study on the basis of the various ways they present human types and characters: through a semi-dramatic narrative presentation, through brief life-histories, through descriptive character-sketches, or through implication of character by environment. The author bases much of his work on the idea of a dual interest in Pope's verse, which is partly satiric and aimed at moral.or social correction, partly humorous and aimed at examination or elucidation of human nature. The Dunciad and An Essay on Man are examples of the two interests as opposite extremes; but in most of Pope's work, the author maintains, the functions are complementary.

Full textHow can one caracterize the medical social environment that is progressively emerging in the Avignon region after the papecy established its siege in the city? This question is directing this thesis work, willing to closely scrutinize the actors of this medical socialization. Barbers, surgeons, apothecaries and of course doctors constitute the main protagonists of this study. By establishing a prosopography of 324 Avignon’s health actors, the objective is to replace those actors in their context. The micro-history approach allows us to observe how those practitioners progressively formed a profession. Crossing the sources of practice and the intellectualproductions gives an insight on the close connections existing between the academic medicine – the medicine of treatises and diets – and the reality of the Avignon medical market. In the first place, the social demand of care is coming from the popes and the cardinals. Recruiting academic practitioners with a solid reputation is now becoming a symbol of prestige. Their presence in court is also nourishing the interests of political authorities for the commonweal. We will therefore try to underline the connections between court’s physicians and the ones who practice within the city. Those two figures have frequently been opposed but both of them interact and practice on the same ground. All these elements are attesting the progressive integration of the medical field in society that we can consider as a first form of “medicalization”. After analyzing the characteristics and practices of the Avignon medicalenvironment, we can study it facing major events. The Great Plague and its frequent outbreaks in the 14th century allow the practitioners to spread their intervention field in the city. Subsequently, the plague is an important accelerator of the medical professionalization. In the after-plague period, the collaboration between the health actors and the authorities strengthens. The physician progressively becomes a figure of authority and his expertise exceeds the scope of epidemics. Medicine is therefore an opportunity to integrate court and pope’s and prelates’ domesticity; revealing a seek for social elevation from actors willing to practice their art at the highest level and collect benefits from it

Abstract: Curriculum-hypertexts-pops assumes, in its writing as a thesis, the banality, the ordinary and the common to which the scholastic cultures are sent, in their space-temporal rhythms? It faces this condition of educational practices that are set in motion in three schools, with teachers with different experiences, with educational projects in multiplicities. It is a thesis that inverts in the chaos. And it is made effective on it. The work with concepts of Gilles Deleuze, in the thesis, puts them into fluxes to the curriculum field studies, invading it with attrition. It is not a relaxed chatting, with open channels to dialogue, to the hospitality. It was worked under barbarism, it was necessary to make from the curriculum passage to a violent and deconstructive multitude. The option was to let empty the fluxes of the most common and powerful in the curricular thinking of the school: its organization into spaces and times of the modernity, its centrality in contents, its expectation to communicate to teach. The potentialities of the meeting of the curriculum with the ¿Deleuzian¿ times are, in this thesis, the disturbance of the relations between school and cultures. They are also the draw, lines of ¿story¿ to let curricular politics be considered artistic esthetics
