AbstractIn British Columbia, native willows (Salix spp.) (Salicaceae) and, to a lesser extent, black cottonwood (Populus trichocarpa Torr. & Gray) (Salicaceae) are frequently attacked by the poplar and willow borer, Cryptorhynchus lapathi (L.) Abstract Increasing incidence of the poplar-and-willow borer (Cryptorhynchus lapathi) in Pacific Northwest hybrid poplar plantations has resulted in reduced wood quality and stem breakage. Three replicated, 5-yr-old clone trials established in the vicinity of Pullman, WA were rated for host attack preference. Attacks by C. lapathi were found to be significant for plantation, clone, and the clone by plantation interaction. Attack rating among clones was affected by genotype. AbstractThe poplar and willow borer, Cryptorhynchus lapathi (L.), known to be present in British Columbia since 1923, primarily attacks species of Salix L. (Salicaceae) and Populus L. (Salicaceae). Larvae bore into stems, causing them to break easily. The impact of the weevil has been rising in recent years because of the increasing importance of poplar and willow from both economic and ecological perspectives. We conducted a study at 45 locations in British Columbia to determine host use among native Salix spp. and the between- and within-tree dynamics of C. lapathi. There were 11 new host re

Larvae of the poplar and willow borer, Cryptorhynchus lapathi (L.), an exotic Eurasian weevil, bore into the stems of Salix and Populus spp. creating infection courts for pathogens and weakening stems to breakage. We conducted a survey to determine the distribution and prevalence of C. lapathi in British Columbia. The survey spanned five biogeoclimatic zones, 15 subzones, 45 locations, 135 sites, and 3360 trees. We found the still-expanding range of C. lapathi to have at least doubled since 1963. Poplar and willow demonstrate great potential for the phytoextraction of trace elements (TEs) from soils. In most cases, these species are managed as short-rotation coppice, producing high woody biomass yields, which could provide a valuable contribution toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere. In the current study, we compared the TE extraction and CO2 sequestration rates in a four-year field trial in Southern Italy of two arboreal species (willow and poplar). The results show that, once established in the study area, willow extracted more Cd and Cu and less Pb than poplar.

The article presents the results of a survey of plantings in the park "Ilyich" - one of the objects of landscape architecture in the Levoberezhny district of Voronezh. An inventory of green spaces has been carried out. 15 species belonging to 10 families have been identified. Hanging birch occupies a leading position in the plantation - 21%. Norway maple - 15%, silver maple - 15%, as well as small-leaved linden - 14%, white poplar - 6%. The rest of the species (large-leaved linden, common hawthorn, common ash, white willow, black poplar, bignoniform catalpa, European larch, small-leaved elm, p

Bioenergy is a branch of the energy sector that involves the use of biomass as a fuel. Today, bioenergy confidently takes the place of the leader of the world's renewable energy, playing a significant role in replacing fossil fuels and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which is especially relevant in the context of global warming and climate change. The purpose of the study is to characterize the peculiarities of the development of bioenergy in the conditions of climate change in Ukraine. Research methods are monographic, statistical, graphical and tabular, methods of comparative analysis. Th

Abstract Quench hardening is a necessary process for improving the mechanical and fatigue performance of load bearing steel components, but liquid quenching can lead to large distortions. High pressure gas quenching is becoming a more popular choice, with the assumption that a slower cooling rate will lead to less distortion. While true for certain geometries, nonlinearities in distortion response can make understanding the dimensional change of a component difficult due to the inherently complex behavior during quenching. Memory forms through visual and auditory perception and experience. Yet, memory studies frequently note that past traumas influence memory and the shaping of memory. Here, studies on past suffering influence the field of memory studies. For example, Huyssen notes that the narratives concerning past trauma not only transfer this past pain but also build memory which will emerge in the future (2018). At the present time, the creation of narratives is increasingly shifting away from large institutions, where short story pieces are gaining a place in general media through their formation as micron

Abstract The Gulf of Suez Basin contains a lot of fields, most of these fields are suffering from water encroachment. The increasing water cut is posing a major challenge in optimizing the oil production rate. One increasingly popular approach is to use flow control devices (FCD's) that delay water and gas breakthrough into the well. It equalizes the inflow between well bore and completion by providing an extra pressure drop. These Flow control devices can be divided into inflow control devices (ICD's) and Autonomous inflow control devices (AICD's). The thesis describes the first model used in

The worlds of music and theatre have been brought together under the sign of scenic creation since the origins of the appearance of the theatre, the interdisciplinary artistic dialogue between the two arts sharing common aesthetic, psychological, psycho-social landmarks. The interactions between these worlds gave birth, finally, going through different forms and long searches, to the most original and popular theatre genre, the Musical. At the same time with technology and the digital revolution, live music, the orchestra, the musicians present on the stage of the theatre, were replaced with r

ABSTRACT Underground infrastructures can be adversely affected by earthquake-induced rock engineering vibration causing damage problems. These impacts are even more significantly affected for large underground caverns due to the large span and complex structures. Currently, time-history numerical simulation is still the most popular method for seismic design of underground infrastructure, however it is based on the plane-strain model and assumes the vertical incidence of seismic waves. In fact, the propagation direction of seismic wave is arbitrary and the effect of excitation direction has no
