Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The humor is the object of study of this research was to stand Le Messager Popoli (LMP), Cameroonian satirical press. The main objective is to demonstrate that beyond its fun features, marketing, media criticism and demarcation of humor is indicative of the Cameroonian linguistic identity. Assuming that the game in LMP is based on language code, the humor is studied in terms of linguistic incongruity, that means in the report of the out of the language standard because of the distance between the French interlingual standard and French as used in this paper. This work highlights the mechanisms of humor and releases their operation. It has humor LMP as the product of a semiotic construction draws its tasty flavors in the local context of pregnancy and in the creative fertility of its editors. It also attempts, through humor, to grasp the dynamics of French Cameroon, and through him, the Cameroonian society. This research does not neglect the aspect of non-verbal (iconic) presents it as complementary to the verbal message, but especially as photography-identity of the company that gives the iconic representation. It is what justifies the semiolinguistic chosen approach

Abstract:
The development of reliable numerical tools for the simulation of non-equilibrium plasma devices is a fundamental requirement the technological progress. The main challenge in this context is to adequately represent multiple physical phenomena that take place over different temporal and spatial scales, while retaining reasonable computational performances. In the first part of the work, a fluid methodology in which electrons are modelled using the Boltzmann relation is developed as an alternative to Full Drift-Diffusion models. The proposed Boltzmann Drift-Diffusion methodology allows to limit the drift-diffusion approach to the ionic species, granting substantial savings in terms of computational performances. Both methodologies are applied to the 1D/2D simulation of a volumetric Dielectric Barrier Discharge reactor, operating with air at atmospheric pressure. A semi-implicit numerical technique for the integration of plasma kinetic processes is presented and numerically validated against a well established implicit methodology. The Boltzmann Drift-Diffusion and Full Drift-Diffusion approaches are compared. The obtained results are validated against experimental measurements of the deposited surface charge on to the dielectric layers covering the electrodes. In the second part of the work, a hybrid fluid/Particle-In-Cell approach is employed to model a miniaturized annular Hall thruster for space propulsion. The results yielded by two different treatments of the electron transport mechanism inside and outside the thruster channel are compared to macroscopic and microscopic physical information obtained through experimental measurements. These latter are then used to infer the anomalous transport collision frequency along the axis of the thruster. The obtained efficiency of the two chemical kinetic channels for the doubly charged ions production is discussed and correlated with the computed spatial distribution of the species.

Abstract : This research presents the report of a creative process that led to the adaptation of the poem Popol Vuh. This Native American cosmogony was written in the Mayan language in the sixteenth century, in Guatemala. Mediated by ideas and thoughts of scholars, the report seeks to bring the reader to the creative process which finally resulted in a scenario shared with the public in 2009. The staging Performative Act: Popol Vuh was structured around scenic acts inspired by events and characters presented in the poem literary background, and refer to the four creations that report the creation of the American man, who's being made of corn paste. For an interaction of the reader with this creative process, the thesis is presented in two chapters: the first chapter, with photographed images, shows the elements shared by the research group, throughout the research process, which contributed to the adaptation of the poem. The second chapter describes, mediated by theoretic accounts and from the point of view of the stage director and researcher, the procedures taken by the group for the composition and production of the staging as the group looked for appropriation and implementation of the elements showed in and inspired by that cosmogony. The work moved from the research of the literary universe of the Popol Vuh poem to the practices of theater making, being held in an interdisciplinary approach where beginners actors exchanged with professionals ones.

Abstract:
One of the most frequently used sources of renewable energy is biomass, mainly wood biomass. Incineration is the most common technology utilizing the energy from biomass to produce heat. A byproduct of these technologies is ash, whose composition depends on the feedstock composition and the incineration technologies. Due to the high content of valuable nutrients in ash, one of the suitable option for ash utilization seems to be application into agricultural or forestry land. Therefore, it is necessary to test response of soils and plants and look for the most suitable combination of soil additive (biomass ash), and plants. Experimental part of PhD thesis was divided into the incubation experiment and the vegetation pot experiments. The incubation experiment: The efficiency of ash addition at two application rates was tested for nutrients enrichment in different soils within period of 56 days. The vegetation pot experiments: The two plants Triticum aestivum L: (three-year experiment) and Lolium perenne L. (one-year experiment) were planted in the 5L pots. Soils were treated with ash or ash combinated by superphoshate and flue gas desulfurization gypsum. For both plants, we evaluated the plant growth, biomass production and content of macro, micro and toxic elements in the biomass and in the soils.

Abstract:
Kant deals with national characters in the second part of his Anthropology from a pragmatic point of view of 1798. Firmly rejecting the climatic theory, he advocates an anti-naturalistic stance. However, Kant is skeptical of Hume’s tenet that nations owe their characters to their different forms of government. In Kant’s view, the most civilized nations are England and France: their characters have to do with purely cultural factors. Complementing each other, the characters of those nations broadly correspond to a masculine and feminine principle, as analyzed by Kant in the previous chapter of his Anthropology. The remaining European and Extra-European nations have a less defined – and, in some cases, mixed – character, that owes something more to the natural dispositions. Yet Kant still manages to avoid naturalistic explanations. In many nations, natural dispositions do prevail over cultural ones, but this simply means that less (and sometimes, nothing) can be said about their characters.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) Polar Class (PC) requirements are widely accepted by the industry as the design standards for vessels operating in polar regions. The PC requirements consider the bow shoulder collision with infinite ice as the base scenario. The Popov collision model (Popov, 1976; Daley, 1990), updated with a pressure-area ice pressure model, was adopted for calculating the ice loads on the hull. The Popov collision model considers that the ship-ice impact is so quick that a 3-D collision can be modeled by an equivalent 1-D collision. All motions between ship and ice are mapped onto the normal direction to the hull at the collision point. No collision energy is assumed to be dissipated by the friction force since sliding velocities are ignored. It is of interest to assess the effects of the simplifications in the Popov model using a numerical method which can simulate the collision mechanism with a high level of sophistication. A numerical study of the Popov collision model of ship-ice interaction is presented in this paper. In the study, ship sliding motions and frictions between hull and ice were included in the six-degree-of freedom ship-ice collision model using LS-DYNA software. The output and checked items include the force time histories, maximum force value, ship/ice motions, contact areas and positions, etc. A parametric study was carried out to quantify the effects from varying mesh sizes, ship-ice friction coefficients, ice elastic modulus and ice buoyancy force using the FE model simulation. The effects of simplifications of the Popov analytical model were assessed through the comparisons of the results produced by the analytical model and the numerical model.

Abstract:
Choosing the best quantum method and basis function is sometimes difficult. It is necessary to take into account the computational costs in the same time of accuracy of the combination of quantum method and basis function. DFT methods and Pople basis set are the most common choices on molecular quantum calculation. This study makes a benchmark of DFT methods and different combinations of Pople basis sets on H2S and SO2 molecules. This choice aims decide this combination to explain better the formation on acid rain in environment, specially to high school Brazilian students. After the analysis of the better combinations of DFT method and Pople basis set, some IRC and TS calculations are going to be done to understand better inorganic reaction with sulfur.

Peitz, David, and Naomi Reibold. Bird community monitoring at George Washington Carver National Monu-ment, Missouri: Status report 2008–2020. Edited by Tani Hubbard. National Park Service, November 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.36967/nrr-2287852.

Abstract:
Breeding bird surveys were initiated on George Washington Carver National Monument, Missouri, in 2008 to assess temporal changes in the species composition and abundance of birds on the park and to improve our understanding of relationships between breeding birds and their habitat and the effects of management actions, such as invasive plant species control and tree thinning, on bird populations. Birds were sampled using point counts with 70 variable circular plots located on a systematic grid of 100 x 100-m cells (originating from a random start point). All birds seen or heard on a plot during a 5-min sampling period were recorded. In the 13 years since initiating our breeding bird surveys on the park, birds were surveyed on as many of the 70 variable circular plots as possible each year, resulting in 520 cumulative plot visits. Surveys have yielded records for 100 different species of birds. Ninety-seven of the species recorded are classified as permanent or summer residents to the area, two are classified as transients in the area, and one as a winter resident to the area. Six breeding species recorded are considered species of conservation concern for the Central Hardwoods Bird Conservation Region, the bird conservation region in which George Washington Carver National Monument is located. Of the 97 breeding species recorded, ten species in grassland habitat and six in woodland habitat occurred in numbers large enough to calculate annual abundances with some degree of confidence. Trends in abundance were classified as uncertain for most species, which means that there were no significant increases or decreases, but it is not certain that trends were < 5% per year. The Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) in woodland habitat was stable. The Eastern Meadowlark (Sturnella magna) in grassland habitat was in moderate decline, and the Northern Bobwhite (Colinus virginianus) in grassland habitat was in steep decline. Comparing population trends (i.e., changes in population size over time) on the park with regional trends for the Central Hardwoods Bird Conservation Region suggests that the bird community at George Washington Carver National Monument is faring similarly to that of the region as a whole. Trends in the park’s popula-tions of Field Sparrow (Spizella pusilla) and Indigo Bunting (Passerina cyanea) in grassland habitat and Carolina Wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus) in woodland habitat were uncertain, whereas they declined significantly in the larger region, which could be a result of management on George Washington Carver National Monument. Red-bellied Woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus) population trends, while uncertain in grassland habitat on the park, increased significantly in the region. The Red-bellied Woodpecker utilizes trees for foraging, which are sparse in the grassland habitat on the park. Declining diversity and richness values suggest that park habitat is declining in its ability to meet the requirements of many of the park’s breeding bird species. This decline in species richness could reflect habitat management practices, but it could also reflect the influences of larger-scale factors such as weather or climatic conditions on vegetation. Therefore, continued monitoring of birds and their habitats on George Washington Carver National Monument as management and weather and climatic conditions change is essential for park management.
