Azerbaijani is the official language of the Republic of Azerbaijan and over 80% of its population use it as their first language (Johanson 2010). For the first time, a molecular genetic analysis of a dystrophin gene with a length of 2.6 million pairs of nucleotides was performed on a resident of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Two different mutations: deletion of 13 exons (from 8th to 20th exons) in one patient and deletion of 45th exon in the second one were identified by molecular genetical analysis for patients with Duchenne muscle dystrophy diagnosis from different ethnic groups, residing in Azerbaijan. Taking into account reproductive age of parents, the prenatal diagnosis of fetus is recommended for the following pregnancies.

The incidence of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in children in Azerbaijan Republic is analyzed for the first time for the period of 1998-2008. The incidence of ALL in children was increasing over the analyzed period at an annual increment of3.39 ± 0.9%. Comparative analysis of epidemiological data in Azerbaijan Republic and Republic of Belarus has shown a probable neglect of ALL cases in girls and in infants aged under 1 year in Azerbaijan Republic.
