Abstract:
Purpose Drawing on recent literature and empirical data, the purpose of this paper is to explore the relationships between perceived organizational support (POS), perceived overqualification (POQ) and turnover intentions (TI) in repatriates working in multinational corporations (MNCs). Design/methodology/approach Survey data were collected from 145 repatriates who had been contacted beforehand from MNCs in China. Structural equation modeling and hierarchical regression are used to examine the data. Findings It is shown that POQ and POS both affect repatriates TI, with POQ having the stronger effect, while POS plays a mediatory role between POQ and TI. Specifically, under the same POQ, repatriates TI will decrease as the POS increases. Research limitations/implications The study design is cross-sectional and based on self-reporting, which makes causal explanations of the results difficult. Practical implications POQ and POS are both shown to influence TI, with POQ having the greater effect. This means managers can offset the effect of repatriates POQ on TI by providing better support and assistance, which can help MNCs reduce repatriates TI and retain employees. Originality/value This paper examines the antecedents of TI, and adds valuable new insights to the literature on repatriation through its research data, offering further evidence that managers in transnational corporations should pay more attention to organizational support policy on repatriates in order to reduce their turnover.

Abstract:
Developments in direct and indirect educational systems have increased the number of individuals with competencies that are higher than the required expectations of their current jobs. This concept of overqualification is drawing interest today, while underqualification was the focus in the past. Currently, research on perceived overqualification (POQ) has focused on its negative influences; however, this study aimed to explore the positive and nonlinear influence of POQ on job crafting and the moderating effect of career adaptability on these functions. Data were collected from 257 individuals in three Korean telecom companies. The results of hierarchical regression analysis indicate that POQ had a reverse U-shaped nonlinear influence on job crafting, indicating that an appropriate level of POQ can drive job crafting, leading to performance improvements in organizations and individuals. Moreover, career adaptability moderated the relationship between POQ and job crafting. When career adaptability was at an average or high level, the reverse U-shaped nonlinear influence of POQ on job crafting strengthened. These results are expected to assist in creating both an environment to reduce the negative influence of POQ and healthy sustainability in human resources development.

Abstract:
Despite the growing number of studies that underlie the influence between perceived overqualification (POQ) and counterproductive behaviour (PKP), there is still a gap in the lack of research involving the role of affective mechanisms on the effect of POQ on PKP. In this study, researchers focused on the mediating role of job boredom (KTP) in the pathway of influence of POQ on PKP. Using a sample of 106 employees and lecturers at Islamic universities in Indonesia and using the integration of the theory of person-job fit, the researchers found that KTP fully mediates the effect of POQ on PKP.

Abstract:
The Revised American Pain Society Patient Outcome Questionnaire (APS-POQ-R) is the most commonly used instrument to assess the quality of pain management in many countries but the validity and reliability of this instrument has not been verified in Indonesia. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional psychometric study to test the validity and reliability of Indonesia version of APS-POQ-R instrument to evaluate postoperative pain management quality. The APS-POQ-R was translated into Bahasa Indonesia according to international guidelines. The translation result was tested in 102 patients who underwent elective surgery at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital from March to April 2017. Coefficient Aiken V formula was used for content validity test while factor analysis and corrected item total correlation were used for construction validity test. Reliability was tested using internal consistency (Chronbach α). Aiken V formula showed the Indonesian version of APS-POQ-R was valid with score of 0.8–1 (scale V was ≥0.5). Factor analysis generated five main factors out of 18 instrument questions: activity and sleep disturbances, impact of pain to emotion, side effects, pain management perception, and pain scale. Construction validity test with corrected item total correlation showed all questions has good correlation, which ranged between 0.244–0.799 (correlation ≥0.3). Correlation between each factors of the Indonesian version of APS-POQ-R ranged 0.319–0.407. Internal consistency test showed the Indonesian version of APS-POQ-R was reliable with score of 0.663 (α > 0.5). The Indonesian version of APS-POQ-R is valid and reliable to measure postoperative pain management quality.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of perceived overqualification (POQ) on salesperson performance. Design/methodology/approach In total, 120 usable samples were collected from surveying sales representatives and their sales supervisors from 48 different Indian pharmaceutical firms. Findings The results indicated that sales personnel with POQ perform well: in prospector and analyzer type organizations as compared to in defender and reactor type organizations, and when controlled by the outcome-based control system than when controlled by the behavior-based control system. Practical implications This study suggests that “person-job” fit criteria used in personnel selection should also consider environmental variables (organization type and control mechanisms) for better job outcomes. The results of the study would enable an organization to assess whether its reward systems and levels are getting the desired impact from sales personnel with different levels of POQ in terms of salesperson performance. Originality/value Using “person-job” fit theory, this study examined the role of organization type and sales force control system as moderators of “POQ – Salesperson Performance” relationships and explains how organizations can benefit from enhancing sales performance of salespersons with POQ.

Abstract:
CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: Noninvasive mechanical ventilation during the postoperative period (PO) following lung resection can restore residual functional capacity, improve oxygenation and spare the inspiratory muscles. The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) associated with physiotherapy, compared with physiotherapy alone after lung resection. DESIGN AND SETTING: Open randomized clinical trial conducted in the clinical hospital of Universidade Estadual de Campinas. METHOD: Sessions were held in the immediate postoperative period (POi) and on the first and second postoperative days (PO1 and PO2), and the patients were reassessed on the discharge day. CPAP was applied for two hours and the pressure adjustment was set between 7 and 8.5 cmH2O. The oxygenation index (OI), Borg scale, pain scale and presence of thoracic drains and air losses were evaluated. RESULTS : There was a significant increase in the OI in the CPAP group in the POi compared to the Chest Physiotherapy (CP) group, P = 0.024. In the CP group the OI was significantly lower on PO1 (P = 0,042), than CPAP group. The air losses were significantly greater in the CPAP group in the POi and on PO1 (P = 0.001, P = 0.028), but there was no significant difference between the groups on PO2 and PO3. There was a statistically significant difference between the groups regarding the Borg scale in the POi (P < 0.001), but there were no statistically significant differences between the groups regarding the pain score. CONCLUSION: CPAP after lung resection is safe and improves oxygenation, without increasing the air losses through the drains. CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: NCT01285648

Purpose – Human computation games (HCGs) that blend gaming with utilitarian purposes are a potentially effective channel for content creation. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the driving factors behind players’ adoption of HCGs through a music video tagging game. The effects of perceived aesthetic experience (PAE) and perceived output quality (POQ) on HCG acceptance are empirically examined. Design/methodology/approach – An integrative structural model is developed to explain how hedonic and utilitarian factors, including PAE and POQ, working with another salient factor – perceived usefulness (PU) – affect the acceptance of HCGs. The structural equation modeling method is used to verify the proposed model with data from 124 participants. Findings – Results show that PAE is the strongest predictor of HCGs adoption. PU has a significant impact on individuals’ attitude toward HCGs. POQ is a salient predictor of PU and PAE, and its indirect effect on attitude is significance. Originality/value – From an academic point of view, this study provides a good understanding of the driving factors behind player acceptance of HCGs and adds new knowledge to games with utilitarian purposes. It is also one of the first to describe the components of game enjoyment with a taxonomy of aesthetic experiences. From the practical perspective, the investigation of the specific factors behind adoption of HCGs provides specific guidelines for their design and evaluation.

Abstract:
The purpose of these studies was to examine the principles people engage in when thinking about punishment, using a new measure (the Punishment Orientation Questionnaire [POQ]). Although traditional conceptualizations of punishment divide it into utilitarianism (e.g., deterrence) and retributivism (“eye for an eye”), we argue that a more useful metric of lay attitudes concerns orientation toward or away from punishment. After pilot testing and factor analysis, we used item response theory to assess four scales: prohibitive utilitarianism (limiting punishment based on utility), prohibitive retributivism (aversion to punishing innocent people), permissive utilitarianism (willingness to give strict punishment based on the benefits thereof), and permissive retributivism (desire for just deserts). The POQ showed good predictive validity for capital jury eligibility and sentencing recommendation in response to a death penalty trial stimulus. This study provides a better understanding of how classic punishment philosophies manifest among laypersons and contributes data outside of classical test theory.
