This study focuses on an analysis of the dwell time of vessels in the Port of Sines jurisdiction area, between 2010 and 2023, as an indicator of operational efficiency, with the objective of analyzing the temporal patterns of vessel movements at the Port of Sines, aiming to understand how efficient the operations are. This research will enable the extraction of meaningful patterns from temporal data and the addressing of potential bottlenecks, enabling smother operations and optimized performance. The Atlantic maritime winds and waves, as natural forces, shaped the physiography of Sines, a peculiar rocky cliff cape at the western Portuguese coast, as well as cultural processes have shaped its spatial arrangement since ancient times. Despite its small size, Sines port has always been an important maritime trade corner. In the 1970s, winds and waves of modernity reached the Sines coast with an imposing industrial-port complex. The trained neural networks were able to produce more accurate estimates for the significant wave height and mean wave period, at the buoy location, deployed in front of the Sines Port. Abstract Ports infrastructures are generally protected by cathodic protection using aluminium sacrificial anodes. Anodes are then dissolved in seawater and Al can accumulate in sediments. This study was led in the framework of the European EFFORTS project. Investigations were realized on sediments and water from a French port, which uses aluminium sacrificial anodes. The aim was to estimate the possible contamination level and the chemical speciation of aluminium. Moreover, a special interest was given to heavy metals. Different sites were sampled in 2007. Abstract:
The Cameron Peak Fire and East Troublesome Fire of 2020 were the two largest wildfires in Colorado history. They burned approximately 9% of the Rocky Mountain National Park, raising a concern for trout populations that currently support recreational fishing and success of on-going and future efforts to conserve native trout populations. We inventoried habitat characteristics and biological communities at 19 sites in summer of 2021 and a subset of 11 sites in summer of 2022 to characterize wildfire impacts on aquatic resources, with the focus on characterizing trout population responses. Abstract:
Channel Islands National Park includes the five northern islands off the coast of southern California (San Miguel, Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, Anacapa, and Santa Barbara Islands) and the surrounding waters out one nautical mile. There are approximately 176 miles of coastline around the islands, about 80% of which is composed of rock. The diversity and undisturbed nature of the tidepools of this rocky coastline were recognized as special features of the islands in the enabling legislation. To conserve these communities unimpaired for future generations, the National Park Service has been monitoring
