Abstract:
This diploma thesis based on a result of the European Union's intention to increase the share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in the total production, Slovak Republic currently subsidises building gasifier power plants (high efficiency combined production) to produce electricity and thermal energy from the biomass. Therefore, this thesis aims to build a financial plan of gasifier, which will be used for the evaluation of the investment from the point of view of an investor. Valuation depends mainly on the economic benefits of the project with regards to the assessment of business environment. The work contains a sensitivity analysis to determine what impact on the value of the cash flows will make a percentage change in one variable.

The content of my diploma thesis is to develop necessary steps to set up a business. The first part describes the theoretical background, which primarily focuses on the characteristics of individual analyzes, including model CANVAS. The second part focuses on analysis of the market in which will the business operate, followed by characteristics of external environment and then I try to capture the principle of offered product, which is the subject of future business venture. In the design part of my work, I approach variable solutions of individual business models that are closely linked with the results of the SWOT matrix analysis. In the next section,i perform a comprehensive evaluation of the various options based on the principle BSC and at the end of the practical part I design the necessary steps to set up a business that uses the resulting business model.

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to reach further understanding of the development of environmental adaptation in Swedish heavy industry by studying the case of the Rönnskär Smelter 1960-2000. More specifically, the aim of the thesis is to investigate the interplay between firm level environmental adaptation and national environmental politics and economic development. To fulfil this aim, the following questions are asked: How have company activities such as production processes, organisation and company strategies been developed and adopted in order to meet environmental demands with maintained competitiveness? How have company activities been framed by environmental policies and the specific environmental regulations, relevant for this case? What other factors, beside environmental regulations, have driven and framed the environmental adaptation process of the firm? The study concludes that a long-range competitive environmental adaptation was reached by a combination of investments in environmental technology with an overall rationalisation and modernisation of the enterprise. The study suggests that the environmental adaptation process of the Rönnskär Smelter became part of an overall process of industrial modernisation during the period, which reflects a wider context than the environmental issue itself. It mirrors technological development on other fields than the environment, and an increasing competition on a global scale that called for lower unit costs of production. This led to a modernisation for pollution reduction strategy that enabled the firm to increase production but still cutting its pollution levels considerably over time. The result is partly consistent with the Porter hypothesis that suggests that strict environmental regulation can strengthen firms’ and nations’ competitiveness. Time series data shows that emissions from the Rönnskär factory have radically declined since the 1960s. For these changes, process technology has proven to be most important. Technological adjustments came about through a step-by-step adaptation. It is clear that internal solutions, developed by the companies’ own engineers were more important at an early stage, when the supply of external solutions was limited. The study also concludes that environmental regulation has strongly influenced the environmental adaptation at the Rönnskär Smelter. Of most importance is the Environmental Protection Act (EPA: Miljöskyddslagen) implemented in 1969. In the economic historian Nathan Rosenberg’s terminology, this study suggests that the EPA model of individual testing promoted long-term innovative and cost-effective technical solutions, because it was consistent with decentralised experimental activity and the specific conditions that characterise the dynamics of technological development. However, not much can be said before comparative studies within the Swedish system have been conducted, or perhaps most fruitful, between various national systems of environmental protection. This study also concludes that the environmental issue became of strategic dignity at the very beginning of the 1970s, mainly as a consequence of the implementation of the EPA. Even though environmental issues did not become important for market strategies until the 1990s, the environmental issue called already in the 1970s for adjustments that required financial and personnel resources that demanded priorities and strategic decisions at the highest level of the organisation. The study also concludes that even though the technological dimension has played the most decisive role for lowering emissions, the significance of organisation has increased over time. While the 1960s, and especially the 1970s, brought about substantial pollution reductions through new technology, organisational aspects became relatively more important when the costs of abatement were rising in the 1980s. Organisational co-ordination, division of local responsibilities and education of personnel became a supplement to technology to obtain further pollution reductions. The technician as the “environmental hero” of the firm was successively replaced by the organisational co-ordinator.

O planejamento estratégico continua sendo importante nas organizações. A base do Planejamento Estratégico é o diagnóstico estratégico. O objetivo do estudo foi realizar o diagnóstico estratégico de marketing na unidade de produção e beneficiamento de sementes em uma empresa, com foco na competitividade. Seguindo o que propõe os princípios da Administração Estratégica, utilizou-se três metodologias de análise: o modelo de Porter, a análise SWOT (em Inglês) ou FOFA e a análise da concorrência. O modelo de Porter identifica cinco forças no ambiente de uma organização que influenciam a concorrência (Rivalidade entre concorrentes, Ameaças de novos entrantes, Poder de barganha dos fornecedores, Ameaças de produtos substitutos e Poder de barganha dos Clientes) e a análise FOFA que considera a influência dos ambientes interno e externo sobre a competitividade da empresa. No ambiente interno foram analisados os pontos fortes e fracos. Já no ambiente externo procurou-se identificar as oportunidades e ameaças. A análise da concorrência foi feita com os principais concorrentes diretos da empresa. Os resultados obtidos servirão de suporte para a realização do Planejamento Estratégico de Marketing.
The strategic planning, continues being important in the organizations. The base of the Strategic Planning is the strategic diagnosis. The objective of the present study was to accomplish the strategic diagnosis of marketing in a seed company, with focus in the competitiveness. It was used three analysis methodologies: the model of Porter, the analysis SWOT and the analysis of the competition. The model of Porter identifies five forces in the environment of an organization that its influence by competition (Rivality among competitors, Threats of new incomings, Suppliers bargain, Substitutes products , Customers treats and power) and the SWOT analysis that considers the internals and external influences about the company competitiveness. In the internal atmosphere the strong and weak points were analyzed. The analysis of the competition was made with the direct competitive principal of the company. The obtained results will serve as support for the accomplishment of the Marketing Strategic Planning.

This paper analyzes the changes in the Internet portal business strategy for telecom and other Internet access service providers (ISPs) because broadband Internet access is becoming the standard due to the rapid technology development and growth of Internet access needs and services. I provide some viable strategies for telecom companies that compete with successful Internet portals such as Yahoo. Based on my survey results, I propose the following three workable strategies. The first is outsourcing excellent modules to web sites at both large corporations and individual sites. The second strategy is providing specialized information management services for individual activities in order to retain loyal users, and the third strategy is making this service available for brand building by providing solid security/privacy policies at portals available only at telecom companies. Also, I identified the following four issues that telecom companies need to address to implement the above strategies. First, to introduce modularized services to large-scale competitors, I encourage protocol interoperability on both sides until substantial results and benefits have been realized. Next, telecom companies need to prepare to provide services that first-tier portals are unable to introduce, e.g., schemes that do not require visitors to be led to telecom companies sites. Third, to establish a solid reputation and public trust in the security/privacy services, telecom companies need to prepare a long-term strategic business plan to reach the goal. Last, viable business model is not only advertisement but also marketplace model. Selling security function as an option is also effective.

This thesis on specifics of financial management construction company in a time of economic instability is accompanied by the issue of management companies in times of crisis. It is divided into two parts: a theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is focused on explaining concepts such as crisis and the company, which is followed by the very notion of crisis management. It describes how to recognize the crisis in the company and what tools can be used to solve it. The practical part looks at this from the perspective of management small and large companies, both have very similar content activities. In terms of big companies is being explored as a joint stock company Strabag, which is part of the Austrian multinational corporations. At the level of small business is focused on a limited liability company, which is active in smaler district. The main source of investigation in this thesis is the financial analysis applied to both companies. At the end of the work, the results of both companies compared.

This work had the main goal of analyzing the process of implementation of the Business Intelligence tool (BI) in a small company of the retail area of the construction of the West of Paraná (Brazil). As secondary objectives were raised the main limiters that restrict the implementation of the tool, it was evaluated the contribution of the Business Intelligence tool to the performance of the organization, and propose an implementation model for small companies. Therefore, we used the case study method with direct observation and interviews with the managers and collaborators who use the tool. The results obtained in the study demonstrated that there are several limitations to the implementation of Business Intelligence in small companies, among them, hardware and software limitation, process limitations and limitation of human resources. Such limitations can easily be overcome through the use of a model, which contemplates a flow of activities to be followed, demonstrating that the benefits generated by the tool for the performance of these organizations are notorious. Thus, the study was justified by the contribution that Business Intelligence brings to the performance of small companies, besides contributing directly to regional development through the role of employment creation, income and taxes of these enterprises.
Este trabalho teve como objetivo analisar o processo de implantação da ferramenta Inteligência de Negócio (IN) em uma empresa de pequeno porte da área de varejo da construção do Oeste do Paraná (Brasil). Como objetivos secundários foram levantados os principais limitadores que restringem essa implementação, foi avaliada a contribuição da ferramenta Inteligência de Negócio para o desempenho da organização, além de ser proposto um modelo de implementação para empresas de pequeno porte. Para tanto foi utilizado o método de estudo de caso com observação direta e entrevistas com os gestores e colaboradores que utilizam a ferramenta. Os resultados obtidos no estudo demonstram que existem diversas limitações para a implantação da Inteligência de Negócio em pequenas empresas, dentre eles, limitação de hardware e software, limitações de processo e limitação de recursos humanos. Tais limitações podem ser superadas facilmente a partir da utilização de um modelo que contemple um fluxo de atividades a ser seguido, demonstrando que são notórios os benefícios gerados pela ferramenta para o desempenho destas organizações. Desta forma, o estudo justificou-se pela contribuição que a Inteligência de Negócio traz para o desempenho das pequenas empresas, além de contribuir diretamente com o desenvolvimento regional pelo papel de geração de emprego, renda e tributos destes empreendimentos.

Knowledge Management (KM) has been understood by academics and executives as a critical factor for the organizations success, which indicates the need to progress in research on the subject. However, the evaluation of knowledge management is still one of the hardest activities for companies, being part of this complexity explained by the fact that knowledge is an intangible asset, making it difficult to review in terms of processes and results. From the 90s, maturity models have been created to indicate the company KM level. Through the evaluation of a number of factors, maturity models enable organizations to enhance their KM processes and therefore improve their results in this management area. Although they are found in the literature different knowledge management maturity models, has not met a refinement on the various factors that make up the KM relate. So the question that this research sought to answer was: Are there relationship between the constructs that make up a knowledge management maturity model? Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify the relationship between the constructs of a knowledge management maturity model in a large company, from the perception of its employees. This research used the model proposed by Oliveira and Pedron (2014). According to this model, the KM maturity in a company is evaluated in five levels (from zero to four) by measuring four key factors, which are: internal context, external context, content and process. The study is quantitative, having a survey was conducted. The data collection instrument was answered by 196 employees of a large Brazilian company. Data were collected and processed using descriptive statistical analysis and structural equation modeling using the PLS software. The results of this study indicate [1] are confirmed eight of the thirteen hypotheses of relations between the constructs proposed in Oliveira and Pedron (2014) model and [2] that the company in question is located, according to the model studied in maturity stage three, called development.
A gestão do conhecimento (GC) vem sendo entendida por acadêmicos e por executivos como um fator crítico para o sucesso das organizações, o que indica a necessidade de se evoluir nas pesquisas sobre o tema. Contudo, a avaliação da gestão do conhecimento ainda hoje é uma das atividades mais difíceis para as empresas, sendo parte desta complexidade explicada pelo fato do conhecimento ser um ativo intangível, o que dificulta a sua avaliação em termos de processos e resultados. A partir dos anos 90, foram criados modelos de maturidade com o intuito de indicar o nível que uma empresa se encontra em relação à sua GC. Por meio da avaliação de uma série de fatores, os modelos de maturidade permitem que as organizações aprimorem os seus processos de GC e, por consequência, aprimorem seus resultados nessa área de gestão. Apesar de serem encontrados na literatura diferentes modelos de maturidade em gestão do conhecimento, não se encontrou um refinamento sobre como os diversos fatores que formam a GC se relacionam. Sendo assim, a questão que esta pesquisa buscou responder foi: há relação entre os construtos que compõe um modelo de maturidade de gestão do conhecimento? Por conseguinte, o objetivo deste estudo foi identificar a relação entre os construtos de um modelo de maturidade em gestão do conhecimento em uma empresa de grande porte, a partir da percepção dos seus funcionários. Esta pesquisa utilizou o modelo proposto por Oliveira e Pedron (2014). Segundo este modelo, a maturidade da GC em uma empresa é avaliada em cinco níveis (de zero a quatro) mediante mensuração de quatro fatores-chave, que são: ambiente interno, ambiente externo, conteúdo e processo. O estudo é de natureza quantitativa, tendo sido realizada uma survey. O instrumento de coleta de dados foi respondido por 196 funcionários de uma empresa de grande porte brasileira. Os dados foram coletados e tratados por meio de análises estatísticas descritivas e de modelagem de equações estruturais utilizando o software PLS. Os resultados deste estudo indicam [1] se confirmam oito das treze hipóteses de relações entre os construtos propostas no modelo de Oliveira e Pedron (2014) e [2] que a empresa em questão encontra-se, segundo o modelo estudado, no estágio três de maturidade, denominado desenvolvimento.
