Abstract:
J. H. Wilkins, an African American railroad porter for the Pullman Company, was killed while on duty in April 1930. How he met his death has never been fully determined, but the Pullman Company's investigation file exposes the dangerous and racialized emotional terrain that porters navigated daily on their journeys across the US. By examining Wilkins's death, and the work of Pullman porters more broadly, this article makes the case that white control of black emotions in occupational and public spaces was a significant characteristic of the Jim Crow era, and demands further scholarly attention.

Abstract:
Purpose: This research tries to integrate ESG factors in investment decision making in Indonesia. Research methodology: This research is applied research in which an existing framework is applied to a new environment. This study shows that the ESG factor can be applied in making investment decisions in Indonesia. It requires integration using multiple sources because companies in Indonesia are still not required to provide full disclosure regarding ESG factors. Results: The two industries in this study, namely the agriculture and mining industries, have similarities and both of them can benefit from applying social values to their business operations. When a company has a social impact, the community will support its existence because without the company, their socio-economic activities will be disrupted. Thus, it will be in the interest of the community and parties dealing with the company to maintain the company's existence. In the end, the conflict of interest will disappear and goal congruence will arise. When this condition is achieved, the company will be able to operate more optimally and increase its value. Limitations: This research limited to Indonesia context especially the agricultural and mining industry and their social context. Contribution: This research contributes on applying Porter Framework together with Responsible investment. Keywords: Porter, Responsible investment, Social economy, Government

Abstract:
In this paper we examine the role of geographic location in the financial and innovation performance of publicly traded companies in the US pharmaceutical industry. Regional production clusters are identified and mapped. Particular attention is given to Porter's work on competitive advantage (the diamond paradigm) (Porter, 1990 The Competitive Advantage of Nations). Several metrics of business performance at the company level are collated with local factor conditions, the relative presence of related or supporting industries, and the degree of interfirm rivalry within production clusters (among other things). Our main hypothesis is that company performance responds positively to the location-specific assets identified by Porter. We explore this hypothesis using a series of t-tests and regression models based on secondary data. The empirical results lend partial support to Porter's model. Specifically, the data show that companies located within major clusters exhibit stronger financial performance than their counterparts located elsewhere. Cluster membership is also found to play a positive role in product innovation (as measured by patent counts). Overall, the data show that different metrics of company performance are influenced by different combinations of strategic and locational variables.

Abstract:
There are two types of investors, the first is the type of investor who focuses on return on investment and the second type is the investor who pays attention to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) values in investing. This requires management to make adjustments to create a competitive advantage. One of the frameworks used to measure the competitive advantage of a company is the Porter framework. However, Porter's framework needs to be supplemented with ESG values to capture the value creation process in today's business environment. This research is applied research by applying the existing framework in the field. In this case, the framework used consists of two, namely the Porter framework and the LST integration framework. The ESG framework is implemented at the industrial level using industrial divisions based on industrial divisions in the Indonesia Stock Exchange. This study focused on the raw material production sector, namely agriculture, and mining. This study showed that ESG factors affected the competitive advantage of companies and industries. If a company in an industry ignores the value of ESG, the company will experience a decrease in competitiveness. Meanwhile, if the industry does not pay attention to the ESG factor, the industry will experience a decline compared to other industries that pay attention to the ESG factor.

Abstract:
The article presents the analysis of the strategy one of the leading enterprises of the "United metallurgical company" – the Foundry Rolling Complex using the typologies proposed by A. Chandler, M. Porter, Miles and Snow, V. Gerchikov. It is established that the need of the development strategy of the company was initially linked to the need for the owner and a hired Manager to agree on what areas should be developed to take into account the interests of both. The article identified: the long-term goal LPK, short term goals, ongoing courses and allocation of resources. From the point of view of competitive strategies A. Chandler, it was found that at present forestry uses "positive" strategy aimed at active consolidation of its position in the market and to enter new niches. According to the typology of M. Porter the company is gradually moving to the use of the differentiation strategy – the possibility of competition due to the uniqueness of a product with broad market coverage. According to the typology of miles and snow's the company follows a strategy of analysis, while achieving operational excellence and developing new products. The predominant component of the LPK, determining one of the six basic missions proposed by V. Gerchikov, is to focus on the area, which somewhat restricts the ability of the company to reduce costs and improve efficiency. Strategy analysis, performed using several typologies, has led to the conclusion that the company needs to actively develop new products. Is present on the same market of oil and gas pipes should look for new niches to supply steel builders, automakers, etc. To the base component orientation on site, you need to add the orientation to the case or result, without which successful competition will be impossible. The article also noted that to achieve long-term goals of forestry should stick to any one strategy.

Abstract:
In the post-crisis era, new concepts are emerging, while some old and dysfunctional ones are being discarded. Strategy is about making series of decisions that drive corporate action under specific coupling with company’s environment and context. Because decisions are actions, the strategy itself is action, not just a description of action. In the world of traditional strategy, descriptions (information) have replaced action (knowledge), and talk has replaced walk. We start from the premise that strategy is what company does, and what company does is its strategy. One cannot run a company just on descriptions and framed mission statements. The role of customers is crucial: the customer shapes strategy and triggers corporate action. Without respecting the customer, there is no viable strategy. This is why we label the action-based strategic thinking as “Anti-Porter”: consumers do not want tradeoffs and thus truly effective strategy cannot be rooted in Porter’s tradeoffs.

This article analyses Walt Disney Company's business strategy and stock price. Disney is currently the second largest media and entertainment firm in the world, behind Comcast, and the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020 has had a constant impact on Disney's corporate growth. We need to investigate Disney's performance as well as strategy throughout this unique period. I utilised Porter five-force analysis, SWOT analysis, and PESTLE analysis to determine and illustrate Disney's strategy. Next, I individually reviewed the financial reports of Disney and its competitors. I divided Disney into two parts, the DMED department compared with Netflix, the DPEP department compared with Universal, and then Disney compared with Comcast as a whole. Furthermore, I analysed and compared Disney's price-earnings ratio and enterprise value ratio to those of Netflix, NBCUniversal, and Comcast, respectively. Finally, I analysed Disney's stock price and projected the company's free cash flow over the next five years. The analysis reveals that Disney will have good business ability in the future and generate revenue in the future. I hope to provide some enlightenment to stakeholders.

Abstract:
For many years it was widely assumed that there was a close connection between the rapid expansion of European imperial power and acquisition of territory overseas during the nineteenth century, particularly in Asia and Africa, and the congruent Protestant Christian missionary project to save the ‘heathens’ of these places by persuading them to embrace the ‘redeeming’ message of the Gospels. Over the past several decades, however, the thesis that empire-building and Christian evangelizing were mutually supportive activities has come under sustained attack from a group of British historians led by Brian Stanley and Andrew Porter – to the point where the Stanley–Porter revisionist line now occupies centre-stage. This article shows that, contrary to the dominant consensus, the relationship between church – in the form of the missionary societies – and state – in the shape of the English East India Company, initially cool, gradually warmed as the two parties came to realize that they had a common interest in providing ‘civilizing’ Western education to the Indian elites. Indeed it provocatively suggests that the colonial state might well, in time, have given its endorsement and even its support to the spread of Christianity had not the Mutiny intervened in 1857. However the analysis of the benefits generated by this South Asian partnership finds, paradoxically, that it undermined the Company’s authority, and may well have deterred many Indians from converting to Christianity – which had come to be widely seen as a privileged and imperialist religion.

Abstract:
Today, there are many conceptions involving creation of the company value, as it is the main objective for the owners. However, there are still many companies interested primarily in the different company’s objectives and enhance its competitive position differently. The aim of the paper is to present and analyze the viewpoints of Czech and foreign specialists on the issue of company value creation. The paper provides the determination of factors positively influencing the company value, the description of their characteristics, and on the basis of a detailed academic discussion proposes conclusions. Attention is paid especially to the value drivers which are not recorded in the financial documents. The introduction of the paper gives a brief overview of the topic. The paper is divided into three main parts. The first part introduces the effective cost management. It clarifies the concept of the managerial accounting and explains its contribution to the creation of the company value. The second part deals with the external relationships of the company. It focuses on the buyer-supplier relationships and offers the detailed perspective on the specific issue of the agricultural companies and their competitiveness in relation to the land leases. The third part concentrates on the internal company environment, namely on the human capital potential and its effects on the value of the company. In the concluding part, the findings are summarized. Based on the results, the figure describing the determinants and generators of the company value is formed. This figure can be considered a systematic procedure how to create a company value. All findings are supported with the literature review e.g. Armstrong (2007), Fibírová and Šoljaková (2005), Marinič (2008), Petřík (2007) and Porter (2004). Within the paper elaboration, the analysis and synthesis as scientific methods were used for explanation of the experts’ points of view and then summed up as the partial and final results. The logical-systematic method was employed for clarification of the initial conditions, context illustration, partial outcomes creation and deduction of the final results.

Abstract This essay analyses the imbalance identifiable in critical approaches to the gendering of Beckett’s influences with respect to his autographic writing. Contrasting Beckett’s Company with Gertrude Stein’s The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, I unravel the particulars that have led to Stein’s marginalisation as a figure against which we can situate Beckett’s autographic writings, with a view to further understanding why the remarkable correspondence between Beckett and Stein’s autographic praxes has continually evaded critical attention. Building on Porter Abbott’s description of autography as self-writing, I propose that Stein’s autography be considered an example of self-rewriting, and Beckett’s of self-unwriting.

Abstract Competitiveness is the ability of the company to compete with commodities that meet the needs of customers in terms of price, quality and diversity. It is possible to the extent that the firm has a competitive advantage and whose affirmation has its source in the internal conditions of the firm and which the economic environment, first of all the competitive one, can favor. In the field of management, the strategy is the art of conducting a set of devices in order to achieve a goal. M. Abstract:
Abstract Top House is a small architecture firm located in South Tangerang that focuses on design consultants for low and medium-rise buildings. The preliminary study has been conducted by interviewing the firm’s owner who also acts as the principal architect, to identify company problems. The results showed that the company revenue and net profit decreased significantly by about 20% from 2017 to 2019 and 75% from 2016 to 2019. Moreover, the consultancy service orders became small and decreased from 2015-2019. The decreased revenue and net profit were caused by a poor company and incomprehensive management system. To solve the problem using the external and internal environmental analysis. The external environmental analysis used the PESTEL, Porter Five’s Forces, and competitor analysis. Meanwhile, the internal environmental analysis used the VRIO framework, value chain analysis, and existing Business Model Canvas (BMC). Afterward, the data were summarized in the SWOT table for strategy formulation. It consisted of IE matrix and TOWS matrix as company level strategy and functional level strategy, then the new proposed Business Model Canvas (BMC). Based on the analysis of IE Matrix, the current company classification position is in cluster five. This indicates that the company should implement a hold and maintain business strategy with two options, namely market penetration and product development. Furthermore, pros and cons analysis is used to obtain the best strategy from these options. The company should implement a product development strategy by improving the existing product quality, namely green architectural requirements in the design concept and utilizing BIM technology. The TOWS matrix resulted in 11 functional strategies applied in the marketing, human resources, operations, and financial field.

Abstract:
There are five competitive forces that influence the Industry. Industry competition affects business performance, so companies must adapt to changing environments to maintain a competitive position. One of the ways to win the competition is to use a strategy. Strategy allows organizations to gain a competitive advantage from three different foundations namely: cost leadership, differentiation and focus. Strategic planning can help to develop an early warning system to avoid threats or develop strategies that can turn threats into profits for the company. Thus the strategy can maximize competitive advantage on the one hand, and can minimize the limitations of competing. The question is; How do laws and regulations affect Porter's five competitive forces and the three generic strategies? This research is a qualitative analytical descriptive study using secondary data, and the unit of analysis is the prevailing laws and regulations in Indonesia. The results of this study; consistently statutory regulations (laws) influence the five competitive forces and three generic strategies put forward by Porter.

The aim of this study was to understand if environmental conservation actions influence industrial competitiveness and innovation. A systematic review was performed in the Scopus® database searching for studies published between 2009 and 2016, in order to obtain the knowledge base related to the topic. Additionally, a questionnaire grounded on literature was applied to multisector group of 15 medium and large Brazilian companies with ISO-14000 certification. The results showed that in practice companies recognize that industrial environmental conservation actions have influence on competitiveness and innovation when companies adopt a conscious selection of materials for development of new products without environmental risks or impacts, as well as through continued improvements, innovation of company management system, processing innovations to meet environmental requirements allowing increasing their operational efficiency, processing innovations meeting environmental requirements allowing increasing its productivity, revenue generation with recyclables or wastes, and non-generation of exporting barriers, resulting in costs and losses reduction, thereby increasing the company image in market, thus practical results supported the theoretical basis grounded by Porter.

Abstract:
Abstract Everywhere, in the business world and not only, we speak about the competitiveness. And while talking about this concept, it seems appropriate to explain what the competitiveness is and how it influences the organizational performance. Nowadays, there has been a growing intensity of competition in all business areas and this has resulted in a greater attention to analyze the competitive behavior under environmental dynamics and complexity. The industry is the "arena" where starts and applies every company`s activity. Usually, facing the high level of competition, it is necessary to study all the variables which influence the organization in order to achieve goals such as: the profitability and ensuring organization`s longevity. The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between industry forces and organizational performance to test the applicability of Porter`s model explaining the differences in the performance of construction companies. The methodology used is in the function of links between variables that characterize the industry and the realized performance, expressed through overall performance. The primary data collection was conducted through a questionnaire. Besides the demographic characteristics of the sample, the questionnaire as well aims to collect information on a high number of variables. Geographically, the companies participated by completed the questionnaire, were performing their business activity in Vlora region (such as Vlora city, Orikum and Himara), covering areas where construction sectors had the major development, including urban and coastline areas. The processing data collected via questionnaire shows that the construction industry is characterized by a high level of competitiveness and market fragmentation.Through the empirical analysis of competitive forces, the study contributes to the specific orientation that investors and managers should have when they face a high rivalry among companies.

Abstract:
The purpose of the research is the search for the strategic steps to win the competition among small construction and installation companies in the market conditions, where the factors of scale and differentiation do not work. In order to achieve the aim the following scientific principles are used: the principle of applied targeting, system, dynamics, and the methods of observation, modelling, formalization, analysis, synthesis, mathematization and generalization within specific scientific methodology. It is a major problem to create serious stable competitive advantages for winning in the competition for the small construction and installation company. Creation of competitive advantages is based on the definite economic correlates. Thus the question arises what to base them on. M. Porter determined U-like dependence between the market share of the company and the level of the returns on investments. [Porter, p.60]. It made it possible to make a principally important conclusion about two types of strategies that achieve significant success: 1) differentiation 2) leadership in prices and expenses. Thus, it’s necessary to analyze the company market from the point of view of: possibilities for differentiation; presence of the economies of scale, which help to decrease expenses and price of the product. The new (updated) BKG matrix helps to find ways to solve the problem of creating competitive advantages. BKG defines four competitive fields. Competitive field where small construction company operates is called “frustration”, and according to the recommendations of the modernized BKG matrix, the factor of scale does not work here and differentiation is not appropriate. Among the recommendations for this field the most efficient, in our opinion, is the proposition to use factors of production the sphere of the largest return and to control geographical markets. Actual expenditures of the company depend to a considerable extent on the term of work performance among other factors. Having conducted the research, we defined the correlation between the term of work performance and their actual cost value. The research was conducted based on calculations of estimated costs of construction works with the help of the program complex AVK-5, taking into consideration the character of dependence of the cost value components on the terms of work performance. These correlations are presented in chart and graphic form. After analyzing the graph it is possible to determine how the estimated cost value will change when changing the terms of work performance and define the zone of minimal cost of work performance which allows to build the strategy for tenders and negotiations on construction costs and terms. Optimum zone is the zone of minimal variable costs, corresponds to normative duration of work performance. Upon the analysis of the received correlations and possible tasks of the construction company while conducting tenders we can suggest the following strategies of tenders’ conduction to a construction company: a) In terms of strict restriction of the costs of project implementation from the building owner; b) In terms of the strict restriction of the terms of the project implementation by the building owner; c) In case, when the subject of negotiation during tender are both term and cost of work performance.
