Full textUppsatsen handlar om hur porträttmåleri som ett rollspel och en strategi för förmedling av den avporträtterades identitet till betraktaren. Tre porträtt från perioden 1624–1630, föreställande Herman Wrangel (1584–1643) fältmarskalk och riksråd, har analyserats med fokus på den avporträtterades pose och dräktens avbildning med stöd i begreppet the fiction of the pose, baserat på Harry Berger Jr teori. Vidare används begreppet teatrikalitet, som det diskuteras av Hanneke H Grootenboer. Undersökningen visar att dräkt och dräktdetaljer samt poser som är betydelsefulla, för den avporträtterades identitet, framställs med emfas. Därmed spelar dräkten och posen en viktig roll i den avporträtterades framställan. Den avporträtterade agerar inför konstnären och i förlängningen inför betraktaren. Porträttet av adelsmannen blir en uppvisning, en monolog inför betraktaren som kan bekräfta adelsmannens roll i den sociala hierarkin.

Full textI detta arbete undersöks äldre personers förhållande till den teknik de möter i vardagen. Statistik visar att det i åldersgruppen 65–84 år, jämfört med de yngre åldersgrupperna, är betydligt färre personer som har hemdator. Avsikten med studien var att kvalitativt utforska vad som ligger bakom sådana och liknande förhållanden. Omständigheter som kan vara av betydelse vid utveckling av teknik för äldre människor.
Etnografiskt inspirerade fallstudier genomfördes hos fyra ej yrkesverksamma personer i åldrarna 65 till 75 år. Det empiriska arbetet har i huvudsak inneburit observationer tillsammans med deltagarna och halvstrukturerade kvalitativa intervjuer. Momenten har genomförts i deltagarnas hem.
I syfte att göra resultaten lättillgängliga har dessa utformats som porträtt skrivna i jagform. Tanken med porträtten är att de ska kunna användas som idé- och designstöd i samband med utveckling av teknik för personer i situationer som liknar deltagarnas.
Praktiskt, estetiskt, symboliskt, socialt och affektivt bruk har varit utgångspunkter vid analysen som genomförts med porträtten som underlag. Ur analysen framträdde ett antal bruksvärden. Dessa avser de positiva eller negativa värden som bruk av någon teknik innebär för brukaren. Bruksvärden som umgänge, åtnjuta information och nöje, effektivitet och trygghet, avgör brukarens förhållande till tekniken.
Några av slutsatserna i studien är: att trygghet är ett centralt bruksvärde deltagarna upplever i mobiltelefonbruket, att deltagarna har ett mycket begränsat intresse för hemdatorer, att barnen spelar, som anskaffare, påverkare och stöd, en viktig roll för deltagarna vad gäller tekniken i vardagen.

Full textThe present dissertation deals with the artistry of the Swedish artist Vera Frisén (1910-1990). The emphasis is being put on her landscape paintings from Västerbotten, in the northern parts of Sweden, but also includes self-portraits from her early years as a painter. Vera Frisén was born in Umeå, but lived more than half her life in Stockholm. During springtime and summer, she did however return to Västerbotten and the vil¬lages of Stöcksjö and Kolksele, where she painted the majority of her landscape paintings.
The study has been given a chronological frame, where the first part sketches out the contexts and environments that came to have an influence on Vera Frisén and her artistic development. Consequently, the thesis starts with a brief biographical presen¬tation, but then moves forward to issues more central to the subject. Important as¬pects are for example her years as a student in the art academy of Otte Sköld in Stockholm during the late 1920’s, and her first separate exhibition at the gallery Färg & Form in 1941. Other issues that are being illuminated in the study are the artistic and cultural conditions in Vera Friséns hometown Umeå. The discussion mainly cen¬ters on issues that took place during the 1930’s and the 1940’s – the time when Vera Frisén established herself as an artist.
The second part of the dissertation includes analyses of Vera Friséns paintings. In the search of concepts that further can explain the more profound existential values in her work, the study also links the themes in her paintings to other painters in the his¬tory of landscape painting. Concepts central for discussion are for example the aes¬tethical and philosophical issue of the sublime, as it is formulated in the discourse of Immanuel Kant during the late 18th century. Thoughts expressed by other artists, writers and philosophers, linked to Vera Friséns own thoughts on the subject, are also valuable instruments in gaining a deeper understanding of her work.

Full textThe aim of this study is to examine the symbolism in art objects and visual culture belonging to the Moravian Church in western Sweden during the 18th century. The objects chosen are portraits from Gothenburg, church art from the countryside, as well as printed decorations in books and church service agendas. The Moravian church is one part of a general transition from an early modern society, through Enlightenment, towards romantiscism and secularization. The Moravian church was also to a high degree an international movement. Therefore the objects analyzed here have been related to examples from the international Moravian church, as well as to local examples without any obvious association to the community. One aspect of the determinant ideology of the Moravian church was their view of how practical life, the religious ideology and estetic ideals together formed aspects of a whole. Life was not seen as fragmented in parts. Instead its different forms of expression were all regarded as ways for the Divine to express itself, as well as ways for the people to experience and approach the Divine, an approach that goes within the frame of ”Ordo Salutis”. This ability to experience life as a whole is also a scientific approach used in the present study to interpret their art and symbolism. The study shows how a number of symbols (the eye, the star, the wound, the mandorla and the flower) all are aspects aiming to point towards the one main transition – the one between light and dark, life and death.

Full textWe are constantly surrounded by light in our daily lives, there’s natural and artificial light. During cloudy days there is light and it’s presence is always there even if it’s not the clearest. In this bachelor thesis we examine the light from different angles, but above all how Rembrandt and the impressionists in their artwork used the light. To get a broader view of our process, we use the two terms "fluid" and "fire" from actor-network theory (ANT). Based on the theoretical part of our work, we created digital illustrations with the message “Dare to be yourself”. This is done in the form of various portraits, where the light is in focus not only in the lighting but also as a whole. With the help of the theoretical and practical part of the bachelor thesis we are shown that the question "How can one with the illusion of light create a portrait with digital media?" can be answered in different ways, as we illustrate light with different expressions and visual languages.

Full textThe thesis “Representation of the Sociopath Portrait in Cinematography” examines how and by what means the represented people in cinematography are affected by sociopathy. As this phenomenon is not yet fully examined psychologically, it is hard to detect sociopaths in the society. Only special cases are discovered, due to the fact that the law was broken and the person disturbed the law and order. A significant number of films from different periods were created with sociopathy phenomenon as its basis, in which the characters are affected by it. Even though all of them are different, however, a lot of them share similar traits, be it outward appearance and behavior, as well as in representing the visual portrait. The thesis consists of two parts – theoretical and practical. The first part deals with the general examinations and postmortem of the sociopath portraits in cinematography, introduction to the representation qualities and their mannerisms based on books by Aleksanrd Mitta, David A. Cook, Béla Balázs, Nerijus Milerius. The phenomenon of sociopathy in contemporary Lithuanian film context is discussed. A closer investigation of the selected films is conducted, the visual psychological features of the portraits are described, as well as the actors and their traits, behavior, auxiliary portrait-making means. Full textWe send questions on the distances and the links between the madness and the photography, by borrowing a central way : photographic portrait and schizophrenia. The increasing number of photographic portraits representing crossed off or skipped faces notified us. The image of the face or the body is the object of all the changes. Furthermore, the current technologies allowed to give to see, not only retouched or modified faces, but falsified faces. Yet, the representation of the human face is the reflection of a questioning as for the place of the man in our societies, also we thought that it was important to wonder. We try to bring to the light problems in play between the photographic portrait and the schizophrenia. The defined corpus is vast, it goes through the time of the origins of the photography in today, to show the concordances between photographic portrait and schizophrenia, beyond the symptom which has us in the contemporary portraits. The use of the term schizophrenia precipitates into the mental illness and appeals to a well defined psychiatric nosography. The schizophrenic private hospital carries questioning, which overlap strangely in the questions which can be born in front of a photographic portrait, too perfectly not to investigate them. So we chose to borrow this way to articulate the research at three moments. It spreads (deploys) in three parts: the encounter, the confusion of the report in the reality and the confusion of the report in the identity. Full textFocusing on the character of Youchka, a car thief, this thesis written in the narrative mode has adopted a microscopic approach. Drawing from reflexive anthropology, it records the three stages of an investigation in which course the ethnographer abandoned her original conception of the thief (as an anti-social, misfit, violent and cupid being) in order to enter the thief world and be able to collect his own interpretations. All along this process of interactions, where the thief reveals himself and the anthropologist becomes receptive, eventually emerges the significance of robbing: the thief doesn't rob in order to get rich but rather as a way of being free to exist. After detailing the obstacles that needed to be overcome so as to establish a relationship with a thief, the narrative highlights the double constraint: relations with society determined by perpetual secrecy and invisibility; and subjection to the rules of a marginal world. The anthropological approach reveals a character in love with freedom who indulges in illegal practices out of revenge for what he holds as social injustice, with the hope of gaining a made of existence in adequacy with his own idea of happiness. No one else but a thief can talk better about theft. This could be the conclusion of the thesis which, by letting such a character speak, a victim of prejudice more fantasized than known, sheds a light on otherness

Full textThis study is based on a socio-cultural perspective and aims to examine Swedish Tornedalian pupils´ linguistic identity and relationship to meänkieli. The study was performed by triangulation which consisted of visual linguistic portraits, group interviews and field notes in three classes in fourth year in two different schools in Swedish Tornedalen. The method visual linguistic portraits, also called language portraits in this study, is a unique method that has not been used in previous Swedish research about minority languages. The creative process of working with the language portraits helps pupils develop their thoughts about language and identity. Together with group interviews and field notes, this study has a high reliability and validity. In this study it also becomes clear what historical gaps that exist around the description of Swedish Tornedalen. A summary of the study still shows that meänkieli is a very important part of Swedish Tornedalian pupils’ linguistic identity. Eight out of 20 pupils want to learn more meänkieli because pupils describe the language as an essential part of their culture and identity. This is an important result to give the revitalization of meänkieli more energy and motivation. Furthermore, the results of this study show that dialects are of great importance for pupils´ linguistic identity. The pupils describe their oral language in form of different Swedish dialects. Tornedalian pupils are not represented in current research and this study contributes with an important voice to the conversation about how language, culture and identity are factors that cannot be distinguished. In this way, a future for meänkieli also means a future for the culture and identity of Tornedalen in Sweden.
Tämän tutkimusten tarkoitus on selvittää ruottin toornionlaakson koulukläppiteen kielellinen itenttiteetti ja suhe meänkieleen. Tutkimuksen teoria perustuu sosiokyltturinen näkökulma ja tehtiin triangulerinkiin kautta jota sisältää visyallinen kielellinen potretti, joukkointerjyyvit ja panna kirjoihin. Tutkimuksessa on mukana kolme eri luokkia kaksi eri meänmaan koulusta. Metuuti visyallinen kielellinen potretti myös sanottu kielipotretti, ei ole ennen nähty ruottin riikin tutkimuksissa minuriteettikielissä. Koulukläppiteen kreativi työskentely kielipotrettiten kanssa auttaa ne käsittäämään niien ajatukset kielestä ja itenttiteettistä. Tutkimuksen lopputulos on vahva reliabiliteetti ja validiteetti triangulerinkiin kautta. Tutkimukssessa selvästi tulle näkön mikkä putteet meänmaan histoorialinen muistelussa on. Lopputulos tästä tutkimuksesta on että meänkieli jatkuvasti on kolon tärkeä osa ruottin toornionlaakson koulukläppiten kielellinen itenttiteettiä. Kaheksan koulukläppiä kaksikymmenestä halvaavat oppia enemmän meänkieltä. Meänkieli on niien mielestä tärkeä osaa kylttuuristä ja itentitettistä. Nämät tulokset ovat tärkeitä revitaliserings teko meänkielelle. Eespäin lopputulos näyttä että dialektit ovat iso osa kielellisestä itenttittettistä. Koulukläppit korostavat että niien suullinen kieli on joku ruottin dialekti. Koska ruottin toornionlaakson koulukläppit ei ole edustettuina missän aktyellissa tutkintossa tämän tutkimuksen tarkoitus on että nostaa ja laajenaa kansapuhe miten kieli, kylttuuri ja itenttiteetti ovat tekiötä jotta ei voi eroitella. Täten tulevaisuus meänkielelle tarkoittaa myös tulevaisuus meänmaan kylttuurille ja itenttiteettille.
