Full textContemporary German counts many original postfield constructions. Following what aim does a speaker make use of these constructions? Which criteria can be used to create a taxonomy of the original occupants of postfield constructions, those non-verbal constituents of an utterance which one wouldn't expect in such a position? Relying on syntactical, prosodic, communicative and even rhetorical data, three chapters attempt to answer these questions. The state of the art of literature about the Nachfeld / postfield and the different original occupation forms it takes (Ausklammerung, Nachtrag, Rechtsversetzung), found in Chapter 1, reveals a flood of terminology as well as a large number of divergences between linguists. These observations have led to redefining the postfield at the beginning of Chapter 2, using a corpus of political speeches. With E. Faucher's theory of demarcation (1984) as a backdrop, the postfield is defined as the space located after a final break at the level of the utterance. This space can be filled by a constituent resulting from a right projection or an addition. These two discursive devices, although syntactically and prosodically different, are used for identical rhetorical purposes (Chapter 3). Whether it be for completeness or convincing, the postfield is a strategic position at the level of both the text and the argumentation

Full textAbstract: The evolutionary biology allows to understand and to trace the origin of species or populations, to understand their dispersions in different areas and analyse the resulting differentiation of these developments. The biological invasion and invasive species, in general, are good models to study and understand the adaptation to new environments. Plasmodium falciparum, a protozoan parasite, agent of the malaria, invades a new host and new vector species at several times. The objective of this thesis was to analyse (i) introduction, origin and distribution of P. falciparum in radically different environments; first, a new geographical area (South America); second, a new host species (in primates); and (ii) identify genes potentially involved in adaptation to new environments. I addressed these questions using different approaches, including population genetics, phylogeographic analyses, and also phylogenetic analyses. The results demonstrate for the first time, P. falciparum has been introduced by humans at least twice in South America from Africa. This thesis has also demonstrated for the first time that this parasite circulates naturally in nonhuman primates. The analysis of the patterns of the selection on candidate genes play a role in the invasion of erythrocytes by the parasite was performed to determine if adaptive evolutions were occur on these specific genes in these new environments. Overall, our results demonstrate that P. falciparum can be considered an invasive species and that parasite is not specific to humans. All of our work allowed us to advance in the knowledge of the biological model in terms of strategy emergence or reemergence in different environments. Our results highlight the changes that have taken place in the geographical distribution and the emergence of host range used by P. falciparum during its evolutionary history, past and present which may raise concerns of other developments in the future.
The central idea of John Rawls’ theory of justice, the justice as fairness, as elaborated from his first writings up to the “translated-edition revised” of A theory of justice, is to present a conception of justice that generalizes and elevates to a higher level of abstraction the traditional concept of social contract, such as established by Locke, Rousseau and Kant. The social contract, however, is replaced by an initial situation that contains certain restrictions (about the conception of good and by the veil of ignorance) to the arguments, with the purpose of conducting the parties to a fair consensus about the principles of justice. This interpretation (more general and abstract of the conception of social contract) is reached through the idea, both intuitive and fundamental, and of justification of the original position. The original position is presented as hypothetical and heuristic artifice of representation, a real thought experiment, and its construction is analyzed according to its own categories. In outline, it is a hypothetical situation of equal liberty (definition) about the just in the status quo that, similar to the state of nature of the social contract (philosophical fundament), assures that free and equal persons (presuppositions), in a rational way, in the condition of representatives of citizens of a well-ordered society, under the veil of ignorance (characteristic), choose certain conception of justice, with the purpose of reaching a consensus about the principles of justice for the regulation, in the cooperation among all, of the basic structure of society (objective). The perspective adopted in the research is both historical and interpretative. It is suggested, soon in the Introduction, a re-analysis of the reading of John Rawls’s work, considering it, in the historicalevolutional perspective, not according to “the date of its publication”, but according to the “evolution of their concepts”. For that reason, the revised-edition of A theory of justice and Justice as fairness: A restatement, under such justification, are relocated. On Chapter 1 is presented a general view about the moral point of views adopted, as justifications, by the justice as fairness. On Chapter 2 is initiated a description of the “conceptual evolution” of the original position, according to John Rawls’s initial writings, in consideration to years 1950 to 1971. In that period, the structural elements of the original position are presented. On Chapter 3 is analyzed the original position as established in the A theory of justice, in the aspects that differ from previous writings and which came to be considered as the most controversial. The “nature” of original position as “thought experiment” is discussed. The Chapter 4 retakes the description of the “conceptual evolution” of the original position, but now beginning from writings after 1971 and establishes a dialogue of John Rawls’s ideas with others, starting from his explanations, his replies and his (eventual) revisions, considering the critiques directed to him after the original edition of A theory of justice, up to 1975, year of the publication of the “translatededition revised” in German. As Conclusion, I suggest that the original position, at least until 1975, it is essential to the John Rawls’s philosophical system about justice; however, isolated, it is not sufficient to, in his plan, justify, be initially, the choice of the two principles of justice of the justice as fairness, or, be later, to stabilize them. The justice as fairness, in these two stages or justifications degrees, of choice and of stability – and without considering the political liberalism’s “turn” – besides the original position, needs, as “complement”, of other fundamental ideas: of person, of well-ordered society and of reflective equilibrium.

A fairer income distribution has been debated as a way of making viable the democratic societies with liberal characteristics. The problem to be examined in this investigation is exatly the possibilities that the governments called liberal have, promoting reforms that result in such possibilities. In this way, we will be giving focus on the work A theory of justice from the American philosopher Jhon Rawls. Inserted in the contractualist traditions, it elaborates a justice as fairness, placing itself as an alternative to the utilitarian doctrine. The democratic governments, according to Rawls, must ensure that public politics have a consistent distributive justice as a consequence. These governments must be plural, and conflits of philosophical, moral or religious order must not prevent a reasonable agreement as a way of making viable a basic structure of the society. Using a rational artifice in which the agreementes are valid for everyone, Rawls creates the artifice of original position. In this situation th

The objective of the present work consists in the investigation and exhibition of the conception of the original position in the theory of justice as fairness, drawn by John Rawls. For that, it is highlighted the way the author exhibits the agreement made in this initial situation of the choice, in other words, the parts symmetrically situated in the original position and covered by the veil of ignorance, that has the function to impede the passage of arbitrary information that can influence in the choice of the principles. Besides, the agreement made in the original position is characterized as hipothetical and non-historical. Rawls, in the subsequent works of A Theory of Justice, emphasizes that the misunderstanding about the hypothetical aspect of this position is due to the fact it isn´t seen as a representation artifice. By this way , in order to understand the argumentation about the original position, it treats the doctrines, in which the theory of justice as fairness, is presented as an alternative, with the intent to contextualize the theory of Rawls. From the works of the own author, it looks for presenting the fundamental ideas and the way how they are linked in this theory. Besides, they are object of study the role and the characteristics of this initial situation of the choice and the principles of justice, as the result of the agreement made between the parts in the original position, are objects of the study. This position is understood as an initial situation of the suitable equality for the choice of the principles, that must specify the fair terms of the society understood as a system of social cooperation.

Full textSince 2003, the University of Cuyo has been carrying out a program of affirmative action as yet unprecedented in Argentina: the Program for Huarpes Communities and Rural Boarding Schools. This scholarship program offers practical assistance and spécial tutoring to a group of students who originate from the most isolated rural areas of the province of Mendoza. Half of the beneficiaries belong to the Huarpes indigenous people, an ethnie group whose very existence is denied by some académies from the University of Cuyo itself. This affirmative action program means that the University of Cuyo has broken with two of the traditional principles on which the Argentinian welfare state rests: the «color-blindness» principle and the universalist one. The departures from those principles, considered as exceptions, require carefully worded justification in order to keep them from being considered | as simple violations of the norm. What strategies do the various actors involved — students, administrative employees, program promoters and university professors — develop to render both understandable and acceptable the exceptional character of the measures implied by the PBCHEA program ? My findings show that while the professors and people in charge of the program consider the rural students as being neweomers in need of special assistance, the students themselves define their own position quite differently. Indeed, they consider themselves to be ethnographers of sorts, able to spell out the rules governing the different settings in which they live

Full textSelf-enhancement is a self-motive which pushes individuals to increase positive self-views and to protect their self-concept from negative information. Two mechanisms associated with the self-enhancement motive, positive illusions and the self-serving bias, will be analyzed in the context of couple relationship. Positive illusions deal with the tendency to perceive one’s relationship favorably when compared to the couple relationship of the average other. The self-serving bias relates to the tendency to make internal responsibility attributions for positive events but to make external responsibility attributions for negative events; however, when individuals collaborate with a close partner on an interdependent-outcome task, they refrain from self-serving attributions or even manifest the other-serving bias. These mechanisms serve the purpose of maintaining and protecting a relationship that is central in one’s couple identity. The present work will also focus on the influence that an insidious parental behavior like intrusive parenting exerts on these two biases pro-relationship and, consequently, on couple identity. Study 1 and 2 are dedicated to the examination of couple positive illusions in couples in transition to marriage whereas study 3 investigates the self-serving bias in dating partners.

Full textThe present work intends to clarify the true meaning of the ideal of distributive justice with the aim of creating an ethical paradigm able to orient the implementation of public policies, in addition to serve as an interpretation guideline of its effectiveness and practical results. Based on the theoretical premises set forth on the fundamental work A Theory of Justice, by John Rawls we seek to discuss the true meaning of equity where the primary social goods are distributed in an very unequal way and how the adoption of public policies oriented by a substantive perspective of justice may become a new paradigm to orient this dynamics. Succeeding this initial line of argument, this work develops into the search of the true meaning of meritocracy, founded, once again, on the unequal distribution of primary social goods or, simply, on the uneven division of opportunities. In the context of these beliefs, we seek to assert that in order to exist in fact meritocracy, it is necessary to have an environment which promotes equal opportunities so that each singular person may seek to develop their life project in accordance with their efforts and individual talents. Finally, distributive public policies may be the instrument to materialize this ideal as long as it is oriented by premises which favor the substantive perspective of Justice and that from a critical view of inequality may pursue a just distribution of primary social.

The extension of sexuality by Freud with the libido theory allow more complete and broader investigation of sexuality, showing it as a phenomenon of totality. Social sciences however did not insert this enlargement into their theorizings on the sexuality delivering a definition of this one according to their paradigms and disciplinary interpretative frames. Also, the politicization of sexuality has at first interpreted the question of freudian libido in a critical utopia, that of the sexual liberation of Mai 68. In second time, it has ideologised ans partialised the sexual question by orientating the debate on the sexual minorites questions. Critical step adopted in this thesis allows to show that sexuality as object is the analyser of concrete sexualities. Sexuality is a native force in the foundation of subjectivity, intersubjectivity and social trainings. Sexuality can’t be conceptualised in a reductionnist way. This complicacy is necessarily polemical because it consists in epistemological and political stakes, but also in ethical, praxeological and metaphysical stakes

Full textThis thesis examines the role of diversity in a conception of justice. I begin by considering the abstraction from difference involved in the reasoning used to arrive at a conception of justice. I then evaluate the role of social group difference in the application of principles of justice, considering whether justice demands principles that are the same for all in the form of individual rights or whether groups can claim differentiated rights. This thesis uses John Rawls’s original position to evaluate the first question, and his account of the self and social group to discuss the second. I argue that we can and should use the abstraction of the original position, so long as we are aware of its limits. While Rawls’s political conception of the self is also useful for defending individual rights, his account of the social group is inappropriate for cultural or historically oppressed groups, as it relies too heavily on the notion of voluntary association. I follow Will Kymlicka’s argument for minority rights and extend Rawls's theory to consider inequality between groups. I close by considering concerns regarding minorities within minorities, and conclude that minority rights are only justified when they are consistent with individual rights, not when they reinforce a different inequality. Therefore, even though the abstraction at the theoretical level is justified, minority rights for groups will require attention to the differences between groups, as well as within them.

The purposes of this study are to investigate the dilemma of the National Aboriginal Teachers in teaching aboriginal languages and the needs for promoting those teachers’ professional disciplines. Literature analysis and questionnaire survey were adopted in this study for thoroughly analysis the main topics. Backgrounds of teachers who were participated in the questionnaire included gender, age, seniority, academic qualifications, and part or full-time teachers. The plights of the National Aboriginal Teachers faced, basic knowledge, professional disciplines, and counseling ability were analyzed and investigated from views points of administration, schools, teachers, students and parent of student to understand the needs for promoting those teachers’ ability in classes. The relationships between plights of the teaching ethnic language and needs for professional growth were also further investigated in this study. The following conclusions were made from summarization and statistical analysis. 一、The perplexity of the National Aboriginal Teaches faced in perceived teaching was close to the “mile stress’ degree. Among them, the shortage of administrative budgets and the “teacher’s part” were the highest and lowest degree of stress, respectively. 二、There were significant difference in dilemma experienced by teachers of difference gender, part or full-time jobs and seniority but not for ages and the highest academic qualification. 三、The needs for promoting those teachers’ professional disciplines were in the “considerable need’ option. The “professional attitude” was the highest level of demand and the “professional knowledge” was the least level of demand. 四、The needs for promoting professional disciplines were insignificant for those teachers with different backgrounds of gender, full or part-time jobs, seniority and the highest academic degree. 五、The dilemma that the National Aboriginal Teachers faced and those teachers’ demands for improving their professional disciplines were positively expressed by those teachers.

Full textThis thesis proposes an epistemological analysis of the creative power of natural selection. The aim will be to determine to what extent it is legitimate or not to give to this selection such power. To do this, we will have to know if the selectionist explanation can answer the question of the origin of structural forms of life. In the first chapter, we will see the reasoning leading Darwin to give a creative power of natural selection. We will then understand that an exclusively Darwinian framework is maybe unable to address the problem of evolutionary novelty. In the second chapter, we will see in a Darwinian way that it is possible to retain the essence of Darwinian theory and to give natural selection a creative power, although two of the fundamental Darwinians pillars must be questioned. In the third chapter, we will see in a post-Darwinian way that the cumulative power of natural selection is maybe unable to explain adaptation at individual level, challenging seriously the creative power of natural selection. We will then understand that the debate, between supporters of a positive view and supporters of a negative view of natural selection, may depend on a particular metaphysical assumption.
