Abstract:
This document presents five published journal articles all of which investigate the safety and effectiveness of interventions for aggression in mental health nursing. Early work focuses upon studies of the safety and effectiveness of interventions in the clinical setting. In the first article the research project examined the safety and effectiveness of a course of training in ‗control and restraint‘ (C&R) at a medium secure mental health unit. Mixed findings are reported, with some aspects of the study showing an increase in injuries whilst the overall outcome showed no significant change. Th

Abstract:
It has been shown that children are susceptible to many dangers in child safety seats that do not involve a car accident. One issue involves the hyperextension of the neck muscles when the child falls asleep in a slumped position. Another issue is positional asphyxia, which is a form of asphyxia where the child’s position prevents them from breathing adequately. The present study designed a realistic model of the cervical spine and conducted a finite element analysis to observe if and where stress and strain concentrations existed. This analysis simulated the effects of a moving vehicle on the

Abstract:
Various articles suggest that the maximum release force for buckle according to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) 109 of 133 N is beyond the capability of a large percentage of our population [1, 2]. Inversion studies with a large male in a three-point production belt showed he could not open a side release buckle [3]. Numerous articles and patents reference the potential for entrapment of inverted occupants unable to release the seat belt buckle [4–11]. Various articles and patents discuss the problems associated with entrapment of individuals in fires, water or emergency situati
