Abstract:
This chapter discusses the limited application of Sharīʻah under the constitution of Nigeria. It explains the rationale behind the present status by tracing the history and nature of the Nigerian state as well as the applicability of Sharīʻah in colonial Nigeria. It then focuses on the application of Sharīʻah in the immediate post-independence Nigeria as well as the Great Debate on the constitutional status of Sharīʻah in Nigeria since the 1970s. The example of Nigeria shows that it is possible for Muslim states to separate religion from the state, respect constitutionally guaranteed human rights, and comply with international human rights conventions while practicing the Muslim religion.

Abstract:
This epilogue links the colonial history of sexuality with the contemporary politics of HIV/AIDS and girl-child trafficking in Nigeria. The continuity and change in the institutional response to illicit sexuality mirrored the transformative process in the core structures of Nigeria's political and economic ordering. Unlike in the 1940s, when the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the CWO were chiefly responsible for policing prostitution, postcolonial Nigeria witnessed the emergence of new organizations like the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (NAPTIP), which monitors sexual exploitation of underage girls. Indeed, the character, intensity, and composition of regulatory agencies have changed to meet the new challenges of urbanization, HIV/AIDS, underdevelopment, and the globalization of sex in post-independence Nigeria.

Abstract:
The book analyses the background of corrupt practices in the annals of Nigerian political history from pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial era down to the fourth democratic dispensation. The book also establishes a nexus between corruption and political economy in the Nigerian political theatre. Indeed, corruption undermines the rules of law, equity, transparency democratization and national development which breed poverty, insecurity and general underdevelopment among the populace.Meanwhile, the political economy approach and the theories of corruption and their application on Nigerian political economy is highlighted. The role of policy-makers and stakeholders with their policies and programmes on combating corruption is also analysed. Furthermore, the giant efforts of international organizations, civil society organizations (CSOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on combating the menace of corruption are also pointed out. The book serves as a guide to researchers on the subject matter and the freedom fighters with their anti-corruption crusade or mandates so as to proffer solutions to corrupt practices and scandals in Nigeria and beyond.
