Abstract Post-war concrete architecture is a valuable part of the 20th-century heritage spread worldwide with specific preservation challenges. This paper analyses three possible preservation scenarios: conservation, comprehensive upgrade, and adaptive reuse based on a broad legacy of post-war concrete architecture in Lithuania and the sustainability aspect. Even though several significant concrete objects are listed, they are protected very formally, and no comprehensive preservation is applied.

This formed part of an extraordinary drive for modernisation and it was an important instrument in comprehensive architectural reform. This thesis analyses and assesses the wartime roles of Qantas’ Indian Ocean Service and the United States Navy’s Patrol Wing 10 from1942 to 1945. Throughout this period both operators faced extraordinary challenges in establishing and completing their missions. Flying from the Pelican Point area on the Swan River both Qantas and the US Navy contributed greatly to Australia’s wartime defence, protecting Perth and Western Australia until war’s end in 1945.

Since 2004, Abriendo Oportunidades (Opening Opportunities, AO) has emerged as a gender transformative social program to support Indigenous girls and young women in Guatemala’s post-war context. Following an evidence-based, community-anchored approach, AO began as a program and has evolved into a social movement. AO has continuously demonstrated its impact in reducing girls’ exposure to gender-based violence and pioneered alternative education through utilizing mentors as tutors. Over time, AO has successfully reached more than 25,000 Indigenous girls and adolescents across 500+ rural Guatemala
