Abstract:
(Post)-Yugoslav anti-war contention has remained an under-theorised phenomenon more than a decade after the end of the wars of Yugoslav succession. The rich conceptual apparatus of collective contention theories has not, up to now, been employed to account for the emergence and development of these civic undertakings. Positioned at the interface between historical sociology, social movement studies and anthropology, this thesis follows the anti-war protest cycle which unfolded in Serbia and Croatia throughout the 1990s. Abstract:
This dissertation examines the behavior of post-civil war governments and explores how the aftermath of civil war not only influences state behavior but how the previous conflict becomes institutionalized through a state's governance decisions. While post-civil war states will each have different governance needs as they endure the post-conflict environment, this dissertation contends that the governance decisions a state chooses are key to understanding, and potentially predicting, future government behavior. Further, it is important to recognize the role that the previous civil war plays tow

In this thesis the Russian Federation is investigated to understand if it still tries to continue its classic Soviet style of security perception in the post-Cold War era and its views concerning national security as reflected in Russia&#039<br>s military doctrines. It is so obvious that the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the emrgence of Russia as an independent entity in the post-cold war era have compelled the Russian Federation to redefine its national interest. Abstract:
After World War II (WWII) Britain was responsible for much of the early pioneering, multi-storey architecture and British architects designed some of the best social housing in the world. This formed part of an extraordinary drive for modernisation and it was an important instrument in comprehensive architectural reform. Although multi-storey housing accounted for only 20% of all approvals between 1963-7, it has come to epitomise the post-War era and 'modem living’. These buildings are now a paradox. Rather than being at the forefront of a new ideology they now form part of our built legacy. T

Despite being required to participate in some of the criminal activities of the SS, Gerstein believed he could be most effective for the resistance if he remained in the SS. This thesis examines the evidence presented in and the results of three separate legal proceedings (a criminal trial, a Denazification hearing and a rehabilitation and compensation case) which took place in the 24 years following Gerstein's death in 1945. Abstract:
Anti-communism in America reached its apex in the 1950s. One element of this crusade focused on preventing suspected communists from working in their chosen profession, a practice called blacklisting. In attempting to assert their legal rights, the blacklisted found an imperfect justice system, cloaked in equality, yet hampered by the existing cultural setting that treated as immoral anything communist. This dissertation deconstructs the interplay between culture and law, between the desire to root out communists and the attempt to maintain a fair legal system. With an emphasis on the entertai

Yet, the 'problems' of 'access to justice', and access to law, remain. This thesis considers whether these problems are capable of resolution.
