Worldwide, including in South Africa, involvement in research is making increasing quality demands on higher education institutions in terms of sustaining high-level research capability and involvement on an efficient and effective basis. These are complex issues, particularly when concerns such as the quality of postgraduate training, lengthy postgraduate completion rates and the high percentage of suspension of postgraduate studies are present. These are just some of the issues leading to this improvement-oriented study investigating new-generation postgraduate students at a case-study university of technology. The research methodology applied in this study was primarily a qualitative research method, supported by a quantitative research element.

Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the motivation of whether pursuing postgraduate study or not among Chinese students in Inner Mongolia University and Dalian Nationalities University. All in all fourteen specific questions were designed in the questionnaire. Psychodynamic theory, social cognitive theory and Bronfenbrenner’s ecological theory have been employed to analyze the data. The results indicate that students’ motivations to pursue postgraduate studies have both internal and external causes. For those who want to pursue postgraduate studies, the internal causes can be listed as following: a higher degree for a decent job and students’ thirst for knowledge. The external causes include peer influence and extra expectation to fulfill parents' dreams. Those who do not want to pursue postgraduate studies hold more than a different idea on the relation between a better job and a higher degree. They think they can find a good job without a higher degree, and higher education level will not make any difference.

Stephenson, Sandra Lisa. "Master's Degree studies at Rhodes University : access and postgraduate readiness." Thesis, Rhodes University, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10962/d1011783.

Full text
Abstract:
This mixed method, grounded theory study aimed to explore access to Master's level study at Rhodes University, a small, traditional South African university established in 1904, over the ten year period 1999-2008. It also sought to capture the essence of 'postgraduate readiness': the generic (non-certificated) attributes which academics expect graduates to possess in order to undertake Master's degree study. While the majority of students enter Master's level via the formal route (which at Rhodes is an Honours or 4-year bachelor's degree), a significant number are admitted based on the recognition of prior learning (RPL), a practice which is encouraged in South African higher education national policy as a means of widening access and also of acknowledging that learning can take place in ways other than 'formally'. The findings show that while RPL is well defined nationally at the undergraduate level, the concept of RPL at the postgraduate level is vague and largely left to institutional discretion. No national, and few institutional, guidelines are available on which to base the assessment of potential Master's degree students who do not have Honours degrees. Interviews with Deans, supervisors and policy makers at Rhodes indicated that while there is institutional support for admitting alternative access candidates, there is a general perception of deficit compared to those entering the Master's with formal qualifications. However, the statistical findings showed no significant difference in success rates or time taken to completion between students with and without Honours degrees. In addition, comments from supervisors with extensive experience of alternative access students praised the diversity and rich life experience which such students brought to their studies and their peers. The study concludes that an institutional culture characterized by resistance to change, risk and externally imposed regulations at Rhodes has resulted in weak implementation of the University's RPL policy, little marketing or publicizing of alternative access routes to postgraduate study, and low numbers of RPL enrolments at the Master's level. A framework for the assessment of potential Master's candidates - both RPL and formal admissions - for use at Rhodes University and potentially also at other higher education institutions, is proposed in conclusion.

Cyster, Grant Alexander. "Narratives in postgraduate studies: Stories of six master’s students who have experienced supervision-related challenges at a South African university." University of the Western Cape, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/11394/6916.

Abstract:
Magister Artium - MA
Postgraduate research throughput and problems associated with appropriate supervision are a key focus area for many higher education institutions around the world (Lessing & Schulze, 2012; Amehoe, 2014; Botha, 2016). Central to this challenge is the supervisory relationship, which by its very nature, is not one-sided. A productive and rewarding supervisory process requires that both student and supervisor(s) are committed to fulfilling clearly-articulated responsibilities relevant to the research project at hand (Eley & Jennings, 2005). Both student-centric and institutional factors have been found to contribute to low student throughput and to the time taken to complete postgraduate studies (Amehoe, 2014; Luescher-Mamashela, 2015). In South Africa, the higher education landscape is increasingly fraught with varied challenges, including issues of attrition and completion rates as they relate to postgraduate students. Some of the implications of the premature termination of postgraduate research are that various academic fields are deprived of potentially valuable research contributions, and there is a significant cost incurred by the affected students and supervisors (Lovitts, 2001; Lessing & Lessing, 2004), as well as the relevant faculties and institutions, and society at large. Additionally, a number of South African universities are still grappling with inequities resulting from the Apartheid era (Pillay & Karlsson, 2013). It is against this backdrop that this research, through a narrative research lens involving semi-structured interviews, explores and chronicles the stories of six Master’s students who have encountered supervision-related challenges. According to Pearson and Kayrooz (2004), a limited narrative research spotlight has been trained on the issue of postgraduate supervision from the student perspective. The primary objective of this study, therefore, is to facilitate a platform through which the six respondents are able to share the stories of their Master’s supervision experience. On a secondary level, the sharing of these student stories has the potential to enhance the postgraduate research experience, as Lovitts (2001) and Lessing and Lessing (2004) point out.

Abstract:
Thesis (MPhil)--University of Stellenbosch,2002.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Changing circumstances and new initiatives have made it necessary for Higher Education institutions to reflect on all aspects of their teaching portfolios. Recent global and national trends have had numerous implications for different aspects of the university as an entity, which in turn have important implications for teaching, and particularly postgraduate teaching. The need for greater transparency and efficiency is forcing universities into discussions around facing these challenges. The overarching aims of this study were twofold: firstly, to identify historical and current tendencies and patterns in postgraduate studies at the University of Stellenbosch and secondly, to determine the enabling and constraining factors relating to postgraduate studies at the University of Stellenbosch. It was decided to focus on both completed postgraduate students (years 1991 - 1999) as well as current postgraduate students (year 2000). Furthermore, "postgraduate" was defined as relating to all Master's and Doctoral students at the University of Stellenbosch. The empirical research for this study included three components. Firstly, two postal surveys were carried out at the University of Stellenbosch in 2000 in order to explore a representative sample of postgraduate students' attitudes and perceptions. Secondly, a secondary data analysis of existing data on the University database for postgraduate students was carried out in order to do an estimate of success- and follow through rates. Finally, interviews were conducted with coordinators of four postgraduate programmes at different departments in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Stellenbosch. Results show that the nature of postgraduate studies at the University follows the same form of dynamics, diversity and complexity that characterizes postgraduate studies worldwide. Although there has been an exceptional increase in the number of postgraduate students over the past decade, completion rates have stayed the same. This increase in numbers places enormous additional administrative, academic and managerial demands on the University. Although postgraduate students (both completed and current students) seem to have a general positive perception of the University, its academic and administrative services as well as the quality of postgraduate supervision, there are certain aspects that can still be improved upon. For example: the University has to realize that although the completion rates of postgraduate students have reasonably stayed the same over the last decade, the number of students who did not complete increased with almost 50%. The University has to put structures in place in order to cope with the increasing demands these students are placing on administration, departments and supervisors. Also, although it seems as if the University are open to the trends in higher education, they are not totally geared for part-time and non-resldentlal students. All four programmes in the Arts Faculty were initiated by individual academics within the departments. In terms of managing postgraduate students within departments, it seems that greater standardization regarding aspects of admission, administrative support, requirements for research proposals, examination and guidelines for the research components are needed. Supervisors and students both need to know what is expected from them. In terms of the supervisory process, supervisors must have guidelines in terms of what their responsibilities are and they have to realize the importance of their task. Students need to be informed about their rights and the whole process of postgraduate studies. Overall, it is the responsibility of the University, together with its postgraduate students and supervisors to ensure that the process of postgraduate studies is characterized by success, effectiveness and efficiency.

A worldwide concern are focusing on the quality of postgraduate training in higher education institutions, the length of time it takes postgraduate students to complete their studies, and the high percentage of postgraduate students who terminate there studies. Furthermore the involvement in research is making increasing quality demands on higher education institutions in terms of sustaining high-level research capability and involvement on an efficient and effective basis. It is clear that the postgraduate environment will have certain expectations as well as obstacles for the students and therefore if the undergraduate students are prepared beforehand for the postgraduate environment, they will be able to bridge the gap between undergraduate and postgraduate studies more successfully.

Abstract:
Magister Artium (Psychology) - MA(Psych)
Postgraduate students are assumed to develop the capacity to conduct research independently and to evaluate their own work as internal supervisors through the process of thesis supervision. Research capacity building amongst postgraduate students is evidenced by the successful completion of degree requirements or graduation, but student retention and throughput is a problem. The study aimed to establish an evidence base of filtered information on interventions addressing the successful completion of thesis requirements in postgraduate students. The study design entailed a systematic review that explored published findings about research reporting on capacity building strategies and initiatives respectively. The researcher made the following ethical considerations namely, transparency, non-bias during data extraction and using two independent reviewers to assist the principle researcher and avoidance of plagiarism as the proposed study is project based and a collaborative process, which are essential when using a systematic review approach. The proposed study forms part of a larger parent study, which aims to identify factors that facilitate or hinder research capacity development in postgraduate students and new academics. The present study used an adaptation of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta- Analyses (PRISMA) statement, which is aimed at improving the reporting of systematic reviews and meta-analysis. Extracted data were subjected to a meta-synthesis, which included descriptive meta-synthesis and theory-explicative meta-synthesis. Eight articles were identified as good quality articles based on methodological rigour. The good quality research identified 1) high quality supervision, 2) faculty modelling, 3) support and 4) protected research time as effective strategies or interventions that stimulate successful completion of the thesis requirement. The use of appropriate theoretical frameworks in understanding supervision was identified as integral to effective strategies. Limitations of the study were identified and recommendations for future research were provided.

Abstract:
The Regional Maritime University (RMU) Ghana, pays between $5,000 and $8,000 in annual subscription for e-resources with the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Ghana (CARLIGH) to support postgraduate studies and lecturers. However, statistics from the library and library research rooms indicate very low use of the e-resources by postgraduate students and lecturers. This study is therefore set to address the problem of low patronage of the e-resources. The study aimed at finding what library e-resources and services could be provided by the RMU library to enable postgraduate studies. The main research tool that was used to collect data was a questionnaire with both closed and open-ended questions. The total population for this study was 25 postgraduate students and five lecturers. Thirty (30) copies of the questionnaire were distributed to postgraduate students and their lecturers at the department of ports and shipping administration with a response rate of 66.66%. Undergraduate students were excluded from this study. The study revealed that the RMU library has enough e-resources to support both academic and research work and this is known to the majority (75%) of the respondents who use them occasionally. The main reasons for the occasional use of the e-resources were lack of user-education, user-training and lack of off-campus access to fully put the resources to maximum use. Apart from the study suggesting an extensive user education and awareness creation initiative, it also recommends the rolling out of new user services to enhance usage of the e-resources.

Research report (MPhil (Curriculum Studies))--University of Stellenbosch, 2010.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: In this research report I have argued that postgraduate student retention and completion rates in nursing education can be enhanced by attending to the following actions: increased institutional support, initiating students into an ethics of care, and engaging students and lecturers in some form of dialogical communication. In order to ensure that students do not prematurely depart from their programme of study, I have shown that it is not sufficient to offer merely institutional (mostly administrative) support to students, but also cultivating caring and dialogical communication in teaching and learning activities. My argument in defence of caring and dialogical communication is corroborated by an empirical investigation which confirms students’ non-completion and retention in the non-clinical postgraduate nursing education programmes offered by Stellenbosch University’s Nursing Division in 2008.

As libraries are in the transition of moving from print to electronic resources, the purpose of the study was to investigate the use and value of library's e-resources by academics and postgraduates at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). There is evidence from previous studies that today's users have their information needs met via a number of options. They need not physically come to the library; they can stay at home or at their offices to access e-resources. The study focused on the use and value of the library's e-resources in two departments (Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering) in the Faculty of Engineering. The main aim was to determine whether academics and postgraduates use e-resources, the purpose for which they used e-resources in the process of teaching, learning and research, the extent to which they were aware of the e-resources, the value they regarded as the benefit from using e-resources and the problems they encountered in their use of e-resources. The study population consisted of 251 academics and postgraduates. A questionnaire was used as data collection instrument. The questionnaire was distributed to 82 academics, 135 MTech and 34 DTech students. The results of the study are based on the data from 60 returned questionnaires from academics and postgraduates. The study found that the majority of the respondents used e-resources, but a few respondents did not use e-resources because they were not aware of them. Respondents who used e-resources used them for a variety of purposes, including gathering information for a specific topic; doing literature reviews, getting answers to specific questions, and gaining general information. The study also encountered respondents who had problems when using e-resources. These problems included internet connections, slow downloading of articles; time constraints and the need for training in the use of e-resources. The majority of respondents from the study thought that they benefited from using the library's e-resources.

Brenner, Aimee. "Exploring the transition: a case study of RPL students in a postgraduate programme." Master's thesis, Faculty of Commerce, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/33638.

Full text
Abstract:
There has been a movement across South Africa's education sector to widen access and participation in higher education (HE). Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programmes offer an opportunity to do so by providing access to HE to those who do not necessarily have the prerequisite requirements. There is still much to learn regarding RPL programmes and the unique needs and challenges of RPL students, as most of these programmes are still in the pilot stage. This study is specifically concerned with the transition of RPL students into postgraduate HE, as little research has been conducted on this topic. To gain a deeper understanding of RPL student transition, the researcher followed a case-study approach in which the experiences of RPL students enrolled in an online postgraduate diploma programme in management in marketing (PgDipMM) at a South African university were investigated. The programme piloted a novel RPL assessment and selection process which aimed to address criticisms of previous models. Qualitative data was obtained through eight open-ended, in-depth interviews with RPL students enrolled in the programme. Using a thematic analysis approach, nine key themes were identified as possible mechanism that facilitated RPL students' successful transition into the postgraduate diploma and six themes that did not. Findings indicated that, to a large extent, the novel RPL assessment and selection process appeared to have facilitated RPL students' successful transition into a postgraduate diploma through technical preparation and building students' confidence in their abilities. Possible enablers and barriers to RPL students' successful transition were also identified and discussed. In short, the enablers included learner maturity, transference of prior knowledge and skills, social support, sense of belonging, access to effective resources and financial security. Conversely, the barriers included academic difficulties, under preparedness for the intensity of HE and time restrictions. The study had theoretical and practical implications in that it contributed to our understanding of RPL student transition to HE and provided suggestions for ways in which their successful transition can be facilitated

Deng, Jian Ye. "Postgraduate design management education in China : an investigation into the transferability of design management knowledge, curricula, teaching and learning strategies from the UK to China." Thesis, Staffordshire University, 2011. http://eprints.staffs.ac.uk/2183/.

Full text
Abstract:
Design management has not previously been taught in China and the courses are largely ‘imported’ from the west. The transfer of knowledge to a culturally different context must consider a range of aspects which impact upon design management education. This research study aims to conduct an intensive investigation into the transferability of postgraduate design management education (Pg DME) system and programmes from the UK to China. The key objectives are to identify key issues of design management knowledge and its education in a Chinese context; and understand the impact of findings on the interaction in Chinese social, industrial and educational environments. The following areas were reviewed to inform the key theoretical context of Pg DME development in China: 1) the essential issues of knowledge transfer; 2) the theory of design and design management; and 3) the strategic content of design management education and its implications. Through the literature review, the themes of the research were finally indentified: differences in culture, economic drivers and education systems make the transfer complex, thus requiring interpretation as well as translation in Chinese Pg DME 1) policy making; 2) curriculum development; and 3) teaching & learning strategies. This research project is based upon an innate belief in the subjective nature of reality from within the interpretive paradigm. Therefore the research is exploratory with an inductive approach. The 3-phased multi-method comparative research study includes a design management 1) education related policy study; 2) curriculum development study; and 3) is comprised of 18 semi-structured qualitative interviews; providing three distinct but comparable data sets, allowing investigation of the research objective from strategic, tactical and operational perspectives. Models have also been developed in this study, where each level has been designated an essential framework for the healthy development of Pg DME in China. The main findings of the research study highlight Pg DME as an enabling discipline where the needs to be satisfied are internal to the design manager and external to the market and social environment. This necessitates consideration of the appropriate level of understanding of culture background; business & market awareness; and professional practice under the influence of globalisation and knowledge transfer for the society; industries; HEIs; academics and students. It also provides a deeper understanding of cultural aspects of design management provision, enabling the understanding of knowledge transfer, curricula, and teaching & learning across cultural borders.

This study aimed to determine the characteristics of scientific research in accounting and controlling, through the analysis of dissertations and thesis produced by Stricto Sensu programs in Brazil, in the 2007-2009 period, when 757 works were produced, of which 719 dissertations and 38 thesis, which constitutes our research universe. The sample refers to 645 studies, which represents 85% of the total thesis divided into 38 thesis and 607 lectures. The research problem is defined around the contribution of the research programs of post-graduate programs for the promotion and development of scientific knowledge. Using the technique of bibliometric analysis of co word analysis, was built a mapping of thesis and dissertations in the programs, in order to meet the trend, the themes, the databases most used in empirical studies, the sectors of economy covered by the research and if there are evidences of research institutionalization. The concept of institutionalization is related to the Science Information (WITHLEY, 1980) , which states that the formal and informal structures established in a study field guide and legitimate research activities. Were identified research fronts in education and research in accounting at UniFecap, structure and cost of capital in FEARP, informational content in FEA - SP and UNB. The area of highest concentration was \"controlling and accounting\" with 40.2% of study subjects whose \"management control in organizations\" and \"controller applied to public administration\" themes were more frequent. The second one was \"accounting and finance for external users\", representing 30.10%, which showed the \"environmental accounting\", with a focus on environmental disclosure and tax accounting, as an important research area. The researches in the \"financial market\", \"credit\" and \"capital\" accounted 21.9% of topics related to the disclosure evidences, contents of information and accounting measurement and, finally, the studies focused on education and accounting research represented 7.9% of the defenses in the period focusing on vocational training. The data sources used were the data of public companies and public administration at all levels. The sectors covered, in addition to public and publicly traded companies, were the industries and universities. In this environment was identified trend studies managerial approach. Were awarded 56 scholarships, witch three was CNPq granted to USP. CAPES granted the others. The South region of the country received 47% of aid , Southeast 37%, and 12% for Midwest and Northeast got 3.57% . The UNISINOS received the most of aid (21.43 %), followed by USP-SP (14.14 %) and UFPR (12.50%).

Abstract:
The history of mankind is strongly intertwined to advances in the production of knowledge. In this environment, the 21st century takes place in a scenario, which have challenged the scientific communities; leading them to reflection about the model that drives modern science. In order to overcome such challenges, interdisciplinary perspective, directed at production of innovative knowledge, to feed the articulation of different looks. In this context, the University as a privileged locus of knowledge production has at its front policies that induce on new commitments; among them, joining the interdisciplinarity within the postgraduate, which has the National Plan of Postgraduate - NPOP 2011-2020 strength-inducing. This question involves institutional changes, since it touches on frames of reference which refer to disciplinary knowledge. It is in this context that the organizational culture enters the theme. This thesis aims to understand the central meanings of interdisciplinarity in research, built on the organizational culture of a public University. The focus of analysis privileges on the organizational values and social practices of research by the Graduate Program in Social Memory and Cultural Heritage - GPSMCH. It is a qualitative research, which is based on a case study (YIN, 2001). Thus, when, it was decided to carry out the reading of the organizational culture under three prisms: integration, differentiation and fragmentation (MARTIN, FROST, 2001). Data collection interviews to directors/managers, professor and students. The analysis was conducted in the light of the content analysis (BARDIN, 1979). Several aspects of organizational culture act as inhibitors to interdisciplinarity, the individualism, the dispersed structure, cooperation restricted to groups, the favorites and privileges. As inductors to interdisciplinarity has been recent values and practices. Such as democracy and equality of opportunity, has been materialized in the discussions as the main guidelines of the institution. Internal edicts to overcome the cronyism. Itinerant meetings and event integration have promoted the approach for dialogue. From such analysis, it was possible to see how meanings of interdisciplinarity in research on organizational culture from UFPel: lack of an institutional policy; individual initiatives lead to postgraduate; difficulty of interaction and collective construction, interdisciplinarity impaired by individualism; titration imposing limits; lack of a vision of collective; lack of team spirit and collective construction practices, as well as institutional advances (integration). Common meanings just within specific groups (differentiation): challenge (professors), freedom and responsibility for operationalizing (professors), IDP as (managers) interdisciplinarity hindered by administrative matters (professors), uncertainty conferred by title (students); step posgraduate school discipline (students); researcher "least owner of knowledge" (professors); prejudice (students). And, how shared meanings between individuals temporarily (fragmentation): freedom of membership (managers and professors); Interdisciplinarity needs a deep disciplinarity (professors and students); silencing by the UFPel (managers and professors); cooperation restricted to ghettos (managers and professors); hampered from the time factor (professors and students). With this work was to contribute a gap with regard to studies related to interdisciplinarity by the postgraduate school, in particular, to adopt a reading under the prism of organizational culture - key differentiator of this thesis, which seeks to make up for the lack of studies and research in national and international scope.

Charlton, Helen. "Experiencing learning across academic-practice boundaries : an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of Human Resource Management practitioners engaged in part-time postgraduate study." Thesis, Northumbria University, 2016. http://nrl.northumbria.ac.uk/32303/.

Full text
Abstract:
Human Resource Management (HRM) is a contested academic discipline and professional space, in which mid‐career entry is not uncommon, and where study and professional membership are often key to career advancement. Subsequently, engagement with study while working full‐time occurs frequently, commonly at postgraduate level. However, understanding of the student‐practitioner experience is limited due to recognised gaps around research of part‐time, taught postgraduate and mature student experience. This is an odd omission given that it represents a potential growth area following recent funding changes. This study explores these experiences in the context of constellations and landscapes of practice, focussing on issues of social identity theory and academic literacies within them. Utilising Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis to explore reflective accounts of the lived experiences of five practitioner‐students in one Higher Education (H.E.) Institution, the study used an innovative focus group approach, combined with semi‐structured interviews. Analysis was conducted through the development of case vignettes alongside thematic analysis supported through NVivo. For all participants studying occurred during career transition, with studying for additional qualifications intended to validate this transfer. However, in the wider personal context of career and family, study had significant impacts, with complex negotiations involved around obligations to family and employers. Participants legitimised their membership of HRM communities though their wider practice experience. Practice experience was also used to delineate between other members of both their academic and practice communities, with individuals who demonstrated experience given preference. Participants’ experience of education was characterised by comparisons between academic and practice communities, and negotiation of the boundaries between them was constant. Strength of practitioner identity affected alignment and approaches to studying. Engagement with discourse was also heavily influenced by dominant practitioner discourse patterns. This study offers insight into particular experiences of H.E. which may align to other niche student cohorts, and contributes to closing the gap around knowledge of part‐time, postgraduate and mature student experiences. It further adds to knowledge of communities of practice, constellations and landscapes and maps an example. It provides insight into how such students negotiate academic discourse engagement, and the impact balancing study with employment has on approaches to learning. Lastly, it applies this understanding to the support of practitioner‐students learning across academic‐practice boundaries, making recommendations to those facilitating these experiences.

Oluwaseun, Stella. "Understanding international student migration : the case of Nigerian Christian women students engaged in postgraduate studies in UK higher education." Thesis, University of Nottingham, 2016. http://eprints.nottingham.ac.uk/35116/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis explores the motivations and lived experiences of Nigerian Christian women engaged in postgraduate studies in UK higher education based on 20 semi-structured interviews. For this group of women, their educational quest abroad is happening at the phase in the normative life course when they are expected by Nigerian society to be wives as well as mothers. Such cultural expectations carry social sanctions for non-conformity. This thesis investigates the immense social pressures the women come under as their educational achievements are not considered as important as the fulfillment of their social roles in their home country, and the strategies/negotiations they engage in to gain and maintain support for their educational pursuit. Being that they are studying and living in an egalitarian society like the UK, the thesis also examines why the women remain attached to Nigerian patriarchal values. Using empirical data, the thesis attempts to challenge and critique the current debates on international student migration that portray it as an individualized process and international student migrants as a homogenous group. It argues that the participants’ motivations and migration experiences are gendered and embedded in social relationships and processes. Furthermore, the thesis claims that the set of women interviewees are not just engaged in academic study alone as the literatures tend to portray international student migrants, they are also family members (wives/mothers/daughters) and workers, who consciously juggle their multiple roles in an order that seems to prioritize their social roles above the rest. The thesis asserts that the women are not victims; rather they are agentic beings whose compliant attitudes to patriarchal gender structures and roles are rooted in their religious and cultural beliefs.

Abstract:
South Africa does not produce enough Doctoral graduates each year compared to other developed and developing countries. There are also too few Black and female graduates. Black postgraduates are particularly underrepresented in psychology in South Africa. This is problematic for future knowledge producers. Gender, race, age, marital status, institutional and socioeconomic issues, and academic performance play a role in progression to postgraduate studies. The current study aimed to explore: (a) the demographic and academic characteristics of a cohort of Psychology Honours students at the University of Cape Town; (b) whether there was an association between gender and enrolling or not enrolling in postgraduate studies; (c) whether there was an association between race and enrolling or not enrolling in postgraduate studies; (d) whether there was an association between academic performance and enrolling or not enrolling in postgraduate studies; (e) what students' reasons were for deciding to enroll or not to enroll in postgraduate degrees after Honours.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: During the past number of years, the pressure on universities worldwide, including universities in South Africa, has increased to bridge the gap between higher education and society. This includes becoming active partners with its communities. Therefore, the importance of community engagement as one of the three pillars of higher education, alongside teaching and learning, and research, has gained considerable momentum. Higher education institutions in South Africa are also increasingly challenged to elevate the status of their teaching and to raise their levels of community engagement. This also pertains to the area of postgraduate education, which points to the need for a close relationship between teaching, learning and research. The aim of this study was to develop a contextualised and integrated curriculum framework for community-engaged teaching, learning and research in a postgraduate Play Therapy programme. This was done using a contextualised perspective on higher education with reference to current higher education legislation in South Africa as well as curriculum development in general. A literature review of community engagement provided a perspective on the current state of community engagement - nationally, as well as internationally. The study used a qualitative single case study design and an interpretive paradigm to generate empirical data. The first phase of the empirical part of the study focused on determining the current state of community engagement within the postgraduate Play Therapy programme. Data was generated using questionnaires completed by current students and lecturers. In the second phase of the empirical study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with lecturers from 13 national as well as international higher education institutions to review curriculum frameworks and content from other higher education community engagement models. The last empirical phase included two focus groups, one with current students and one with current lecturers in the postgraduate Play Therapy programme under investigation. From the findings of the study, a curriculum framework emerged which outlines community engagement within the postgraduate programme. The emerging framework points to the need for a stronger integration of teaching and learning with community engagement (service component) through service learning. In the South African context and within the programme that was investigated, service learning provides for engaged learning which includes experiential learning and opportunities for students to engage in interactive and experiential processes. The study has also pointed out that research within the postgraduate programme should reflect, in a much stronger way, links to community-based research. Such links may benefit a scholarship of engagement. Also, the research component of the programme needs to be linked more closely to teaching and learning in order to better inform the curriculum in terms of trends, needs and priorities. These activities need to take place within community partnerships with a reciprocal benefit to both the programme and the communities involved.

Swart, Celeste. "Psychology students' perceptions of the extent to which group-based systematic review methodology at Honours level prepared them for further postgraduate studies." University of the Western Cape, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/11394/6281.

Abstract:
Magister Artium - MA (Psychology)
Honours students in Psychology typically form larger cohorts with numbers ranging from 20 to 40 students in comparison to other disciplines that have fewer than 10 students in a cohort. The National Qualifications Framework (NQF) requires Honours students to complete a thesis that is equivalent to 300 notional hours or 30 credits. The learning outcome is that students conduct low level research that prepares them for conceptualizing, executing and writing up a research project. The thesis requirement should also prepare them for future studies. The larger cohorts and revised NQF thesis requirement places increased pressure on the staff compliment of Psychology departments. Some of the ways in which departments have attempted to cope with this increased demand include conducting group-based research projects, and secondary research projects. One of the concerns raised is whether these particular types of methodology prepared students adequately for reactive research in further studies. This study aimed to explore students' subjective perceptions about the extent to which group-based systematic review methodology in the Honours year adequately prepared students for conducting research during their masters-level studies. An explorative study was conducted to explore the experiences of purposively selected recent graduates from two identified Honours programmes that have progressed to Masters level studies. Participants were invited on the basis of being graduates or alumni rather than their registration status as Masters students at particular universities.

Abstract:
This research aimed at understanding the reading practices of two groups of international postgraduate students across three semesters. The research was underpinned by a conceptual framework incorporating metacognitive concepts with framing theory. The methodology involved individual interviews using academic text and pair think-alouds followed by retrospective interviews using general-interest texts. The interviews and pair think-alouds took place at an Australian university with Thai and IndianBangladeshi postgraduate students and at university campuses in Thailand and India. The data selected from the interviews and pair think-alouds revealed significant changes in reading practices between first and third semester at an Australian university and the participants' awareness of these changes. The participants' reflections also provided some explanation for the differences in their cognitive and metacognitive strategy use. The research study was important because, at the postgraduate level, students are faced with complex text interpretation processes. International students, in addition, have to make a significant cultural/study shift; not only do they have to become accustomed to the reading of academic texts using discipline-specific patterns but often have to adjust to different conventions used by authors from cultural backgrounds other than their own. Little is known, in particular, about Thai and Indianmangladeshi postgraduate students' reading experiences in their own countries or how their reading practices change during study at an Australian university. The research findings suggest a dynamic, multi-dimensional, developmental framework for conceptualising international postgraduate students' reading practices in first semester at an Australian university, and the changes in reading practices and the educational and socio-cultural influences on these changes by third semester; the findings, in addition, can inform the debate on literacy levels in the cross-cultural academic environment and can contribute to discussions on such pedagogical issues as reforming of curricular structure, the internationalisation of curricula and the development of more culturally sensitive supervisory frameworks.

This research is part of the search line "Education, Subjects, Society, History of Education and Educational Public Policies", previously called "Public Policy and Education" from the Master Degree in Education UFVJM - UFVJM, and it has as main objective to analyze the integration of graduates of the university's graduate programs in the professional market as well as their trajectories and perceptions. The interest in the subject arose from my experience as an administrative technique located at the Pro Rectory of Research and Graduate Studies and the fact that this sector does not count in its physical or online collection with any data on the professional performance of graduate students and their integration into the labor market. The authors Cunha (2010), Saviani (2011), Dias Sobrinho (2004), Velloso (2003), Lousada and Martins (2005), Balbachevsky (2014) who relate the themes education and graduates, will guide this study. To enable the development of this research, I proposed to conduct a case study with descriptive and exploratory methodology, with qualitative approach, through a bibliographic study and interviews. As data collection source, it was used the official records of the university related to the students in question, and posteriorly, it was applied an online questionnaire. I sought the graduates insertion placement in the labor market and possible gaps in academic education. I believe that this research will be relevant to feed information on the university's database, as well as the community in general.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to explore academic learning experiences of students who have dropped out of postgraduate studies in a Higher Education Institution in Eastern Cape. The study employed phenomenological approach using unstructured in-depth interviews to collect data from participants who have dropped out of Masters Programme in HEI in Eastern Cape. Four participants participated in this study. A lot of themes emerged from what the participants reported and similar experiences were noted as well as different experiences. Central to what this study ascertained is the relationship between the supervisor and supervisee. From the findings of the study it can be ascertained that for any postgraduate student to succeed in his/her studies he / she needs a positive relationship with the supervisor who will play a role of guide, mentor, supporter and a friend. However, the academic preparedness of the students in terms of academic reading and writing, computer literacy and determination to be an independent researcher is also key. Whilst this study provides insight to what the students have experienced academically its findings cannot be generalised because the experiences are those of individuals.

Abstract:
This research, undertaken between 2004 and 2010, examines the progress of a single cohort of students on an undergraduate degree – the B.A. Educational Studies – at the University of Hull. It investigates their entry profiles, their progress on the degree and the impact their studies have had on their postgraduate lives. The research has been informed by a range of literature, most notably that of Archer et al. (2003), Thomas (2001), Wolf (2002) and Connor et al. (2006), in its examination of the policy and values underpinning education as a force for economic growth; widening participation; the impact of family background in relation to education; and the links between vocational and academic entry routes to higher education. The research has been set within a series of policy and value contexts, moving from the global to the national and finally to the local. The research combines quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate an overarching research question: How does the performance and experience of students on a B.A. Educational Studies degree relate to their prior qualifications and background? This has been done through an examination of seven key sub-questions: 1. What kinds of students are enrolled for an Educational Studies degree at the University of Hull? 2. Why do students apply to do an Educational Studies degree at the University of Hull? 3. Whom do Hull University admissions staff admit to an Educational Studies degree? 4. How do these students perform on the degree? 5. Do students with different entry profiles perform differently on the degree? 6. What are the students‟ eventual ambitions? Do these change, or stay the same? If they change, what leads to this? 7. How beneficial have the students‟ pre-university experiences been in preparing them for undergraduate study, postgraduate study/work? The outcome of the research shows that the students are predominantly young and female, living in or near to Hull. Applicants from traditional academic entry routes were accepted with a wider range of UCAS points than students from vocational entry routes, but both groups fared equally well on the degree, whatever the nature of their pre-entry qualifications or whichever subjects they studied beforehand. Mature students, in general, had higher achievement rates on the degree than younger students. In their early postgraduate lives, the students themselves perceived their pre-entry qualifications as having provided little benefit in preparing them for their undergraduate studies, but those with vocational qualifications had found these useful in their postgraduate studies and working lives. Later interviews suggested that these perceptions began to change once the former students were settled in careers. From the research, it emerges that – outwith the nature of students‟ entry qualifications – family background and teacher expectations have importance in determining the students‟ reasons for entering higher education. In addition, one of the most significant factors in their successfully gaining graduate jobs appears to have been students‟ access to work experience both before coming to university and during their time as undergraduates. The sample interviewed three years after graduation was able to reflect on their degree studies as having been a positive and personally fulfilling experience, a finding that relates to key literature underpinning the research.

Dissertation linked to the research line, Training, Teaching Professionalization and Educational Work of the Graduate Program in Education of the Faculty of Education of the Federal University of Goiás, a member of the Federal University of Goiás developed by the Network of Researchers on Teachers of the Center-West Region (REDECENTRO). Based on the dialectical historical materialist method and critical theoretical reference, a case study was developed on the conceptions of teacher training in the postgraduate context, with a qualitative approach, whose object of investigation are the discursive meanings produced by the students of the PPGE / UFG, on the conceptions of teacher education, and its relationship with the different epistemological, political and ideological positions that constitute the bases of foundation on the theme. We tried to answer the following questions: How did the process of implantation and expansion of the postgraduate course in Brazil consider the historical, social and political-ideological process? What are the conflicting conceptions surrounding the debate about teacher education? What are the discursive meanings about the conceptions of teacher education constructed by undergraduate students in the education presented in the dissertations and theses researched on the subject in the period from 2013 to 2016? What are the discursive meanings about conceptions of teacher formation produced by the students, considering the categories teacher training, epistemology and ideological political positioning? The corpus of the research consists of speeches of 24 students from the PPGE / UFG, who studied subjects related to the mentioned line, in the years 2015 to 2017/1. In order to achieve these objectives, the study of the historicity of the Brazilian postgraduate course was developed in the context of contemporary capitalism; as well as the historical development of university and teaching training; the documentary analysis was carried out in the selected databases, in the VI National Postgraduate Plan, in the PPGE / UFG regiment and in the course plans of the courses; and the analysis of students' discourses was carried out under the principles of Discourse Analysis Theory, having as reference the categories teacher formation, epistemology and political-ideological positioning, collected through questionnaire. We conclude from our investigation that the Brazilian postgraduate course, from its inception, had its objectives tied to the industrial development interests of the country, based on the Human Capital Theory. As for the documentary analysis of the data banks, it was verified that the subject has not been the recurring choice of post-graduate students and their supervisors for dissertations and dissertations. From the empirical research, it is confirmed that the attempts to construct counter-hegemonic paths, through the formation of intellectuals researchers and teachers, from the perspective of praxis, have predominated in this program. The course syllabuses of the disciplines offered by the Training, Professionalization and Educational Work line, were manifest in the senses of the program regiments, with repercussions in 75% of the participating students, who presented discursive meanings on the conceptions of teacher formation, based on the same epistemology and with the same political-ideological position: that of praxis. Throughout the course, a critical perspective was the indissociability between training, professionalization and teaching practice. It is argued that teacher training is conceived as Bildung, which does not dissociate theory and practice, given by and for work, conceived as a revolutionary praxis, practical-critical human activity, emancipating, constructing a human society, solidary and just.

This study appeared linked to the Group for Study and Research on Popular Education, Social Services and Social Movements - GEPEDUPSS, which is articulated to the Department of Social Work at the Federal University of Paraíba - UFPB and the Post - Degree in Education from the same university. The study aimed to analyze the academic productions on Popular Education in post-graduate courses in Education of the Northeast region, and specific objectives, meet the prevailing and emerging approaches in the field of popular education, identifying and analyzing the objectives, theoretical framework, methodology and conclusions of this research, and examine whether these studies Popular Education is the object of study or secondary theme. To achieve this, the approach used was the qualitative quantity through a literature search. In this sense, the research proceeded as follows: first, we conducted a literature review about the master's theses and doctoral dissertations of Postgraduate Education in the Northeast region, which addressed the popular education, then select abstracts for later analysis. In the data analysis phase, we based on the content analysis technique elucidated by Bardin (1977). During the analysis of content, search passed over three chronological divisions: the pre-analysis, exploration of the material and finally the processing of results and interpretation. Therefore, we use as the main sources of data collection, the bank of CAPES portal theses, which has master's and doctoral productions from all over Brazil, 2010 to the present day, in addition to reports PIBIC's keys ( 2012), Sousa (2013; 2014), Santos (2014) and the Working Kiss of Course (2013). The main theorists who subsidize this study were: Demo (1995), Bardin (1977), Rabbit (2002), Brandão (1981; 2006), Beisiegel (1982; 1986), Bezerra (2001), Garcia (1980), Porto and Lage (1995), Scocuglia (2000), Haddad (200), among others. Finally, research has shown in its results that the 155 productions found, 74% treated Popular Education as a secondary issue, and 26% as a primary theme. Furthermore, we observed that the productions that addressed the Popular Education were articulated 45 different themes. We also found that 100 productions, 62% were concentrated in the critical theoretical framework (Freire). Given this, we assess that the Popular Education presents itself in many forms, so there is no unequivocal meaning to study it and even understand it.

This dissertation evaluated the perceptions of service quality according the master's students expectations. Students are from the Technology Center - CT of the Federal University of Paraíba, using the SERVQUAL model proposed by Parasuraman, Zeithaml e Berry (1985). It is a research of applied nature, qualitative-quantitative, descriptive, a survey. SERVQUAL measures the quality in 5 dimensions: tangibility, responsibility, reliability, empathy and guarantee, which have been adapted for the services associated with postgraduate courses. The sample consisted of 187 respondents studding in Civil Engineering, Production, Mechanical, Food, Chemical, Materials and Architecture and Urbanism posts. Through this research it was also possible to determine the profile of the students, research object, where 50.5% are male and 49.5% are female. Approximately 71% of the students devoted their time to other activities that are not part of the master's program, 75% of the students were within the regular time for completion of the master's degree. It was also identified that 75.9% had scholarship. Regarding the self-assessment of the same students, 75% of them consider their performance to be good, 12% say it is great and 13% as reasonable. Another data collected states that 50% of the students who are part of the sample of this research did not publish any article during the master's and 24% published only one article. The comparison between student satisfaction and attendance performance was made based on the responses obtained from the variables for the perceived service, expected service and the minimum acceptable service. With the quality perceived by the student‟s analysis, it was verified that their expectations were not being met. The analysis data generally indicate that students of UFPB's master's degree courses expect something different from what has been offered in their respective courses. According to the analysis, it is stated that reliability and empathy are the ones that are closest to the service expected by students, object of this research and it was concluded that the order of priority in the satisfaction of students considering the dimensions of quality was constituted First of the dimension Tangibility followed by Stability, Empathy, Security and Reliability.

Abstract:

The work is justified by the absence of metrical studies in the field of education that specifically focus on the Youth in theses and dissertations produced in graduate programs located in southern Brazil. It aims to contribute to the mapping on Education in Brazil, and to identify what is being researched, analyze bibliometric indicators and reflect on the distribution of issues in the region. This study will have exploratory and argumentative character, it aims to deepen the knowledge of reality from the universe expressed in theses and dissertations contained in catalogs and repositories of the institutions where the programs are located, during the period 2010 to 2014. It was possible to identify patterns within the scientific production of theses and dissertations, such as the main themes addressed, keywords most used, and changes in the number of studies conducted. Quantative data regarding type of work, higher education institutions, year of the defense and supervisiors involved – from which we tracked the collaborative networks in the region were also collected. By tracing an overview of the current research stage of development in Education on youths we hope to contribute to further studies, and promote the area reviews.

The present research aims to analyze the implementation and functioning of the Sandwich Program Abroad (PDSE) of the Federal University of Paraíba. It also intends to investigate the scholarship holders' perceptions of the contributions, difficulties and/or facilities found during the Program in the institution, as well as their perception of the internationalization process in the UFPB. The theoretical foundation is based on university discussions and the process of internationalization of higher education. This is a qualitative approach to case-study research, with descriptive and exploratory characteristics. For its accomplishment and data collection, the following technical procedures were used: bibliographic review, analysis of documents and structured online questionnaires performed by Google Docs – forms, sent by e-mail to the doctoral fellows. Data analysis was performed using the content analysis developed by Laurence Bardin. The results indicated that from January 2014 to December 2015 period, the UFPB postgraduate program sent 45 doctoral students abroad through the Sandwich Doctoral Program. According to the large areas of knowledge determined by CAPES, 50% of them are concentrated in Applied Social Sciences, Human Sciences and Health Sciences areas. The other 50% are distributed in the remaining areas. In the perception of scholarship holders, the main contributions of their sandwich internship abroad is the expansion of the analysis capacity of research objects, interaction with another culture and expansion of the world view. In addition, the internationalization of higher education is an opportunity to integrate produced knowledge from several countries and research cooperation between centers all over the world. The data also indicated that the PDSE contributes, even timidly, to the internationalization process of the UFPB.

Eu precisava saber. E me apegando a viajores experientes como Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, Maria Isabel da Cunha, Milton Santos e Marilena Chauí, me embrenhei mata a dentro.
Abstract: It was through the (auto) biographic path, amalgamated with the cartographic, that I decided to continue. So many other lands had already been cleared in the Territory of Education ... But ... A Research Group ... On what ground did they step on? What did they feed on? With which tribe did they relate? What language did they speak? How did they stay and how did they intercommunicate? I needed to know. And clinging to experienced travelers like Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, Maria Isabel da Cunha, Milton Santos and Marilena Chauí, I got a lot of trouble inside. There, on a small Island of Research, I was able to observe its inhabitants and register their daily life: publications; internal structure; meetings; organization of congresses; in fact, I would like to know if I would be facing a Space, Place or Territory, trying to identify the "dialect" of the inhabitants, their research "customs", their correlations with other Islands and how they influenced and / or were influenced by them. All this interconnecting geographical meanings of the three terms - Space, Place and Territory - to the pedagogical transpositions of meaning. As a result, I came to the conclusion that the Island is, for the time being, a Place. However, it will certainly migrate to Territory in the sense that it is already organized as a center for the production of scientific articles, as a formator and knowledge-sharing. At the end of the journey, as a pleasant surprise, I discovered that the meeting is "... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Abstract:
The purpose of this doctoral thesis is to investigate micro-political processes of production of scientific knowledge, which standardize the methodological practices in the Postgraduate Programs in Communication stricto sensu, evaluated by Capes and recognized by the Ministry of Education. The epistemological positioning occurs through the lens of the philosophy of difference. In this way, micropolitics is understood as the process of production of thought from the relations of knowing-power, detecting how we produce modes of subjectivation. Thus, one does not only want to know "what?" nor "why?", but also "in what way" and especially "how" determined knowledge and not another is being normalized. This way, we propose the path of methodological experimentation of the logic of the senses in confluence with series of paradoxes, in relation to the denaturation of practices and to the analysis of the collective assemblages of enunciation with the critical pragmatics. In this case, the guiding problem of the research articulates in the following questions: How has the normalization of a methodological know-how been constituted in the postgraduate programs in communication? How do these moral devices emerge in our knowledge production strategies? How could one produce different methodological practices? Through this problem, methodological discussion deserves to be recognized as a vital element in the production of knowledge, not only by denaturalizing the four series of representative morality (methodological science, methodological research, methodological pedagogy and academic methodological language), but also by emerging different paradoxes, in our unfinished world, for many truths can be built and many paths can be offered. However, in order to claim existence, we must conceive of thinking in an authentic possibility of creation in which we do not confuse thinking with recognizing or representing. Therefore, little is discussed in the methodological knowledge about the capacity of the thought in offering different ways of existing that assure we do not become prisoners of the knowledge-powers in force. If we take thought in a flow like that of life we shall see that this shows a rupture with the classical recognizing representation to make it a creative power. This way, we propose the concept of an ethos in which ethics inspire a questioning walk of teleological models, making it possible to think differently the practices that organize events.

The present study aims to investigate the pedagogical know-how of postgraduate diploma professors. In order to do so, it shall first contextualize higher education in Brazil and the constitution of a facultys disciplinary, experiential and pedagogical know-how. It shall focus on such constitution and its interrelation with teachers professional identity, taking into account university and didactic pedagogy, adult teaching and learning processes, pedagogical planning, pedagogical practice in classrooms, teacher training, and recent studies on the topic. Our field research collected teachers\' profiles by means of an online questionnaire. Then, the pedagogical know-how of eight professors from the selected higher education institution was assessed with semi-structured interviews. The results confirmed our initial hypothesis: most of them had not undergone pedagogical training before they started teaching; they noticed their classroom practice lacked a theoretical framework and became aware of its importance during their professional development. The main pedagogical dimensions highlighted in their testimonies were constructive relationships with students, and the development of complex and critical thinking. These findings supported relevant propositions such as giving voice to students so as to complement the results achieved, enhancing the repertoire of methodologies that promote students autonomy, increasing the institutions responsibility by promoting and developing pedagogical training with the support of postgraduate diploma coordinators, and mobilizing the Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) to strengthen the regulation of these programs.

Abstract:
The impact of the Contact Centre workplace upon employee satisfaction or wellness is attracting the attention of researchers across the globe. Over 10 years of research has resulted in recommendations about how Contact Centres should be managed and how the jobs of Contact Centre agents should be designed. There is growing concern that the current practices result in significant psychosocial risk factors which are ultimately harming the Contact Agents and less obviously the bottom line of their organisations through emotional exhaustion, stress, employee absenteeism and turnover. The aim of this study was to explore whether Contact Centre managers were aware of these recommendations, in particular those relating to the design of motivating, satisfying and “healthy” jobs. Using an expanded Job Characteristic Model, this descriptive study explored the level of awareness of New Zealand Contact Centre managers (n=20) regarding the recommendations about the design of jobs, and what changes, if any, have occurred as a result. Where changes have not been forthcoming, the study explored the constraints which were preventing or limiting change. The results of this study indicated that there is a low level of awareness of the research recommendations, that approaches to improving the management and design of Contact Centre agents roles are ad hoc, and that there is a level of resistance in providing agents with autonomy to manage their day to day roles. Some efforts to increase task and skill variety have been made but these are also ad hoc rather than built into the job. As a result of this study, it appears that Contact Centres in New Zealand are still adopting a mass production model of management. This study has implications for Contact Centre managers and senior organisational managers, these are discussed. Limitations of the research, implications for Contact Centre Managements are highlighted and areas for further research are highlighted

The results show that the pedagogical projects of the courses are committed to issues of regionalities and sustainable issues, but when that aspect is transferred to the subjects of the courses, this query can not be measured directly. In the item analysis of dissertations, it was observed that they do not have great representation, with only 126 of the total 1813 in academic master's degrees in Administration of Rio Grande do Sul. It was also observed that the Graduate programs do not have the incentive to sustainable management and conceptions of teachers are private and are related to the line of research in which they are linked not with the Graduate program. Thus, it analyzes the scenario is still capable of improvement, such as encouraging the publication of dissertations "green", the integration of sustainable curriculum and improvements in sustainable management.

Abstract:
The international orientation of the academic education is not only a modern side issue but in recent years it has proven as indispensable in the competition of universities among students and highly-qualified young scientists. Based on this, the paper presents an approach for the integration of the postgraduate master and doctoral studies in economics. A specific feature of this approach is the bifurcation of the course of study after a two-year curriculum course system. Afterwards both the graduation as Master and the PhD after a subsequently research and college phase can be made. The aim is not only to increase the chance and the competitiveness of economists in the international labour market for highly-qualified activities but also to ensure the attractiveness of the postgraduate studies and the future of high-qualified young scientists
